[Bug 1097155] [NEW] Bad support of cyrillic in songs' tags

2013-01-08 Thread Yevheniy
Public bug reported:

I am having (and was having in previous versions) a lot of problems with tags
in cyrillic (ukrainian, russian etc.). They are often wrongly displayed.
For example: instead of "Відкрита, ясна і пуста", I see "³äêðèòà ßñíà ³
Ïóñòà".
It must be a problem with encoding.
In windows in winamp I did not have this problem with exactly the same songs.

System: Kubuntu 12.10 64bit with KDE 4.9.3
Audacious: 3.3.3

** Affects: audacious (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: cyrillic encoding tags

[Bug 1097118] Re: Unity using 100% CPU, desktop frozen

2013-01-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Interesting. The attachment in #8 says it is slow because it's trying to
open/close the dash (Super key) constantly. Is that what you're doing?
If not then it could be that your Super (Windows) key is stuck down.

Yes, everything was fine before I hit Super key (just Super to display
dash, or Super+W to view if any application has been launched). And no,
I've not pressed Super key multiple times, just press and HOLD, as I've
used unity before updating to the recent version.

[Bug 903422] Re: Ubuntu does not work with Samsung Galaxy phones ( Unable to open raw device 0)

2013-01-08 Thread frotz
I'm using a Galaxy Tab2 7.0 and have had similar problems. I cannot
access the device at all using any of the known mtp tools (mtpfs, go-
mtpfs, or jmptfs). I supposed that maybe upgrading to libmtp-1.1.5 will
help.

I downloaded the libmtp-1.1.5 tarball, dropped in the debian/ directory
from the previous version's deb src, changed debian/changelog and built
a new deb containing the various packages for version 1.1.5.

mtp-detect succeeds. go-mtpfs and jmptfs work. Sometimes "fusermount
-u foobar" will fail because the system thinks I'm still doing something
in foobar. Regular mtpfs works unacceptably. It seems that it does a
union mount of the internal sdcard on top of the external sdcard and
sets all the permissions to 777.

I hope this helps.

[Bug 1063354] Re: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems

2013-01-08 Thread Marcus Andersson
Some more information that might help isolating this bug. I have a ASUS
P5N-D board with a Pentium processor. It was when I upgraded from 11.10
to 12.10 the trouble started. I seldom get past a complete boot in
12.10, it is very unstable. To make the system work, I have to boot with
kernel 3.0.0 from 11.10. This makes me believe the error was introduced
in the kernel around 3.1 or 3.2. I haven't seen that other distros have
this problem, which probably means it is a local Ubuntu problem.

[Bug 1047822] Re: remmina crashes metacity when trying to connect to remote server using vnc protocol

2013-01-08 Thread Jeff Mings
I have seen this bug on 3 different machines running Ubuntu.
On my current machine, running 12.04, the same result occurs under Unity,
Cinnamon and Gnome Classic desktops. This behavior only happens with a narrow
set of conditions, the specificity of which I am uncertain; generally, Remmina
works as expected, without crashing Metacity. Running with or without Compiz
doesn't seem to make a difference.
Remmina is an extremely useful utility for supporting users - I am hoping that
a workaround will be available if this bug isn't tracked down soon.

Thank You for your efforts in fixing this,

2013-01-08 Thread Leo Barnes
I updated the kernel to 3.2.0-35 and have not been able to reproduce the
problem since then. It may be that the new kernel fixed it or the same
race condition that happened before is not triggered (since it only
happened roughly 25% of the times, it sounds like it has to be some kind
of race condition). Will add more info if it happens again.

[Bug 1097172] [NEW] Can't use password containing spaces in it's smtp-configuration

13.04 is in testing and the live ISOs are quite usable (boot from DVD or
USB). But if it concerns you please boot 12.10 instead. I would be
curious to see if this bug persists.

[Bug 1072082] Re: 046d:c52b Problems using Logitech Unifying Receiver

2013-01-08 Thread Robert John Bowles
Christopher M. Penalver

I have tried a few more ways to execute the BIOS upgrade file I
downloaded from Dell. None of them worked, but I am documenting them
here for the record.

Thinking that FreeDOS was the problem, I tried making an XP MS-DOS
bootable USB. This failed in exactly the same way, with the 'Test.'
message. This seems to indicate that at least FreeDOS is not the issue
here.

I then made a Windows 7 bootable image on USB, and added the executable
to the root directory. I used [this link](http://www.intowindows.com
/bootable-usb/) to make the bootable media. Booting the USB and
selecting X64 Recovery Mode I navigated Install Windows->Repair->Use
Recovery Tools->Command Prompt. At the prompt I found the USB media as
disk C: and again attempted to run the BIOS upgrade .exe. It failed, but
this time the message was different:

'The subsystem needed to support the image type is not present.'

When I can work out what that means I will be a step nearer to running
the upgrade...

Ah, not in Ubuntu I'm afraid as apport-cli uses Python 3. You have to

[Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-01-08 Thread Ped
I did check the BIOS, the ATI radeon was enabled, now with "Intel only"
setting the GLX/OGL still works, so something got fixed on my Kubuntu
installation while I was trying out different PPAs for drivers.

That said, I would still like to have radeon 3D working (like it was in
12.04). :)

There are new chntpw releases ( latest 0.99.6 - 110511) released on 2010
and 2011, maybe this bug is fixed in latest upstream version? See LP bug
#637623 for more info.

[Bug 637623] Re: v 0.99.6 100627 released

2013-01-08 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: chntpw

- New upstream release [1] for chntpw.
+ There are 2 new upstream releases (2011-05 and 2010-06) for chntpw, see
+ http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/HISTORY.txt

- [1] http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/HISTORY.txt
+ I'm pasting main improvements since current Ubuntu 13.04 package
+ (0.99.6-2, released on 2008)
+
+ * v 0.99.6 110511
+
+ regedit library (chntpw and reged uses it):
+ - Hive expansion! Library now does hive file expansion by default! (but you
can turn it off, safe mode). If expansion occured, you will get a warning when
saving the hive.
+ - There were a lot of goofs by me in the add/delete key and value handling,
which made windows complain and lose data. Hope I managed to fix them.
+ - Also, found out more about how Windows does things, for example:
+ - Empty name (default) value, flag field is 0 (not 1 as usual)
+ - Values with data size 0 to 4 the value data itself is stored in the data
pointer field, typical for DWORD (this I knew a long time ago), sign bit of
data size field is then set. BUT..
+ - In a lot of cases in SAM, for null name values, size is 0 with sign set.
In that case, the data dword is stored in the TYPE field, and the rest is
unused. This saves a few bytes of course.. but why?
+ - Large values (seems to be from around 16k) are split internally in
several parts. Sounds smart. But it goes via 2 (two) separate data structures
that has to be allocated.
+ For regular small values the data pointer simply points to the data itself.
For this split large value it points to a "db" struct.
+   Pseudo: vk.ofs_data -> db.list -> list[n] -> raw data block n The last raw
data block always allocates the whole hbin (usually 16k) it is in, even if all
of it is not needed.
+
+ reged:
+ - On popular demand: .reg file import!! (-I)
+ - Will read files from regedit.exe in most cases (UTF-16) but can miss on
some international characters. Also reads "latin" (8 bit) files.
+ - Did quite a lot of testing by importing for example the SOFTWARE\Classes
tree with regedit.exe and importing it again into the DEFAULT hive with my
tool, then ask windows to "Load hive" (in regedit.exe).
+ - -N and -E options for safe mode edit (no alloc and no expand hive)
+ - Importing (-I) and then into edit (-e) before save possible, by specifying
both options.
+ - -I and -C (-IC) will import and auto-save, use this in scripts.
+
+ chntpw:
+ - This version has no significant changes in the password (reset) handling
part of the tools.
+
+ * v 0.99.6 100627
+ chntpw:
+ - Syskey not visible in menu anymore, but is still selectable as # 2
+This because too many people just went ahead without understanding its
purpose, and the emailed me when things went as expected, that is it went *boom*
+ - Interactive menu adapts to show most relevant selections based on what is
loaded
+ reged:
+ - Patches from Frediano Ziglio adding or fixing:
+buffer overflow in export_subkey printing keyname some quoting error (name
and string values must be quoted)
+missing support for wide character encoding in keys and value names
+
+ regedit library (chntpw and reged uses it):
+ - New function from Aleksander Wojdyga: dpi, to decode product IDs
+Can be used on for example \Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\DigitalProductId
+to find the systems product ID in cleartext.
+Now as command in registry editor, but may be moved to chnpw menu later.

** Summary changed:

There are new chntpw releases ( latest 0.99.6 - 110511) released on 2010

Btw, isn't bug #1046622 the duplicate of this bug?

[Bug 1077253] Re: possible for ExecutableTimestamp to not be for the binary in ExecutablePath

2013-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package apport - 2.8-0ubuntu1

---
apport (2.8-0ubuntu1) raring; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Factor out sandbox management functions from apport-retrace into
apport/sandboxutils.py, so that other programs can re-use the API
easily. Thanks to Kyle Nitzsche for the initial work on this.
- Generate a crash signature for kernel OOPSes.
- Add "apport-valgrind" tool to produce valgrind reports in a temporary
sandbox with debug symbols (similar to apport-retrace). Thanks Alex
  Chiang and Kyle Nitzsche!
- Fix StacktraceAddressSignature generation on ARM. (LP: #1089778)
- debian.py: Fix TypeError crash in payload generation. Thanks Ritesh Raj
  Sarraf.
- apport_python_hook.py: Update "ExecutableTimestamp" field when mangling
  "ExecutablePath". (LP: #1077253)
  * Add new apport-valgrind binary package.
  * Re-enable Launchpad crash reports for raring.

[Bug 702574] Re: getty should be started automatically on serial port when serial console is set on kernel command line

2013-01-08 Thread James Hunt
Ogra/Clint - the attached job only starts a single getty. A coupe of
questions...

1) Is there any value in allowing multiple devices? I've already got a
modified version of the job to handle that using instances (planned for
tty2-4 if for nothing else).

2) The job takes the *first* 'valid' console= argument. According to the
kernel docs...

You can specify multiple console= options on the kernel command line.
Output will appear on all of them. The last device will be used when
you open /dev/console.

So, maybe we should follow that convention and change the job to use
the last specified console= device?

The "Nitro" app shows "Free" and there's a "Buy..." button that takes me

[Bug 404085] Re: Cannot use UUID to recognize a device

2013-01-08 Thread Hans Deragon
As of 10.04, uswsusp understand UUID format. Following my configuration
file:

root@server1:/etc# cat uswsusp.conf
# /etc/uswsusp.conf(8) -- Configuration file for s2disk/s2both
# Modified by Hans Deragon, 2013/01/08, 03:04 EST
resume device = /dev/disk/by-uuid/91189e0a-28ac-4329-97da-0e8775506ab9
compress = y
early writeout = y
image size = 2879917834
RSA key file = /etc/uswsusp.key
shutdown method = platform

Therefore, I changed the status to 'Fix released' for this bug.

[Bug 1072528] Re: gallery2 segfault when uploading images

2013-01-08 Thread alex dekker
I had this exact problem and the solution that worked for me after some
googling [http://gallery.menalto.com/node/95244] was to edit
/etc/gallery2/config.php, and change

$storeConfig['usePersistentConnections'] = false;

to

$storeConfig['usePersistentConnections'] = true;

At that point I was then able to successfully upload images. However,
the frustrating thing about this is that it still worked after reverting
the change!

Re: [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-08 Thread Gérald Gurtner
@Daniel: I had the problem with a desktop too (#523). The problem was
solved with me by installing the proprietary driver for the nvidia
graphic card. Of course it's not a general answer to the problem but it
might help some of you.
