[Bug 783320] [NEW] Entire system slows when downloading flash content

2011-05-16 Thread Timothy Russ
Public bug reported:

Upgrade to Natty on a Dell Latitude D620 with Intel graphics, Current
flash-nonfree running under firefox 4.

When a flash video is buffering, the entire system stutters - the mouse
lags and jumps all over, switching between windows takes tens of seconds
and large blocks of keyboard input are simply lost if entered. Behavior
returns to normal once the flash content has finished downloading. The
same behavior occurs when nnn-video flash content is downloading as well
- and it stops as soon as the content has finished downloading. It is
not site specific.

No change with a switch from the new unity interface to the classic.
flashplugin-installer and flashplugin-nonfree 10.2.159.1ubuntu1
Firefox 4.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.11.04.1

Not sure if it's caused by flash, firefox, both or something else
entirely, but it happens every time I try to load flash content

[Bug 773443] Re: [natty] pulseaudio stopped working on ThinkPad T61

2011-05-16 Thread Bill Moran
I had an identical problem to Patrick's on a Thinkpad T410 running
Natty. It seems that pulseaudio is not running .

$ ps ax|grep pulse
 3111 pts/0S+ 0:00 grep pulse

If I try to start pulse I get

$pulseaudio
E: module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working profile.
E: module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument:
"device_id="29" name="platform-thinkpad_acpi"
card_name="alsa_card.platform-thinkpad_acpi" tsched=yes ignore_dB=no
card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""): initialization failed.

This stops sound working - once I kill this process sound works again.

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-16 Thread SoftKnight
Ok...but do you have two keyboard layouts to choose from or only one?
Does the indicator applet show in the tray accordingly?
What keyboard did you choose during Natty first installation? Is it the same
one as the layout you use now or did you add an additional keyboard layout
afterward?

I installed Natty with the german de_de (latin1_nodeadkeys) and it's the
only one. I have no tray icon concerning the keymap/language. I never
changed the language/keymap after the installation.

At my server installation i have no X, so there's no tray icon or
something else. During the installation I choosed the same keymap but a
"qwerty" was installed and used. Weired thing.

[Bug 689326] Re: open office crashed several times in an hour

2011-05-16 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
drpjkurian, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 783324] [NEW] 3G connection entries in the menu when mobile broadband disabled

2011-05-16 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Public bug reported:

I don't expect to see the mobile broadband connection in the menu before
mobile broadband has been enabled. It also seems to work without mobile
broadband is enabled.

I'm not sure what the downsides are with this behavior. The workaround
for bug #769497 does not work at least. And it might be that the modem
is not properly turned off when using the connection without enabling
mobile broadband.

I'm using an Ericsson MBM module. This might be caused by the fact that
it has support for both PPP through ACM and DHCP using usb_ncm module.

[Bug 775639] Re: Desktop background does not draw when set to solid color

2011-05-16 Thread Peter Bašista
I can confirm this bug on my Ubuntu Natty / 11.04.

If I hide the desktop icons, the solid color desktop background is not
redrawn and the windows leave trails (see the attached screenshot).

For me, it is not a very big deal, because I have the desktop icons
enabled and in that case, as Jacob Williams correctly stated, the
background is redrawn properly.

But it surely is a bug and needs to be resolved!

My laptop has 1280 x 800 and external monitor 1680 x 1050 resolution.

settings) from monitor preferences, the problem disappeared!
Fixed also strange problem with mouse pointer disappearing when moving from top

Seems to me that was a different bug. Probably no need to file for it,
since it's already fixed. Glad things worked out :)

[Bug 519031] Re: rsnapshot does not support using link_dest and sync_first simultaneously

2011-05-16 Thread Numérigraphe
This is a known bug in 1.3.0 indeed. I'll see if I can isolate the patchset
needed to fix this, so we can propose this for lucid updates.

[Bug 772995] Re: indicator-applets left side the clock don't show the menu on left click

2011-05-16 Thread Giacomo Mirabassi
I have the same behaviour.. The menus can be accessed by pressing F10 and using
arrows as well.
In my case i can't click on the indicators placed to the left of the volume
control (network, battery,dropbox and weather).

Click on the icons of the systray or application menu still works, it
seems to affect indicators only.

Note that this version of Hydrogen has not made it to the 11.04 yet.

[Bug 783307] Re: e mail send goes nowhere

2011-05-16 Thread Braiam Peguero
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 743323] Re: vlc memory leak

2011-05-16 Thread Rémi Denis-Courmont
I am not saying PulseAudio is bad. I am saying the Canonical, Red Hat
and Novell's of this world cannot expect a hobbyist project like
VideoLAN to have the resources to write decent PulseAudio support in
VLC.

If you have a problem with that, you are more than welcome to write the
code yourself.

[Bug 697044] Re: Natty: calendarserver doesn't start

2011-05-16 Thread Tomas Cassidy
The problem here is that python2.7 files have been included in the main
calendarserver package, while previously the python2.6 files existed in
python-twisted-calendarserver. The web2 files from python-twisted-
calendarserver have not been upgraded to python 2.7 since Ubuntu
switched from python 2.6 to python 2.7.

[Bug 783306] Re: package binutils 2.21.0.20110327-2ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive

2011-05-16 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to
Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 760769] Re: Desktop stops responding to all keyboard and mouse clicks

2011-05-16 Thread Adalberto
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 728101 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728101

No duplicate of bug #728101 for me: it doesn't happen (only) when closing lid,
but also just leaving the laptop alone for enough time; it happens to me 1-2
times per day, after the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04.
The last messages I always find in syslog, after Ctrl+Alt+F1-ing to a console,
are:

May 16 09:41:35 adaca-PSL4BE-2 acpid: client 29751[0:0] has disconnected
May 16 09:41:35 adaca-PSL4BE-2 acpid: client connected from 29751[0:0]
May 16 09:41:35 adaca-PSL4BE-2 acpid: 1 client rule loaded

The 29751 process is X.
Usually, at this point I follow the PID chain until the gnome-session, and kill
it; going back to the UI with Ctrl+Alt+F8 gets me the login form, I can then
login but my previously opened windows are gone.
I'll try the "compiz --replace" fix next time, and post an update here.

[Bug 568611] Re: Screen brightness control fails on Dell Studio 1558

2011-05-16 Thread aaronchall
I have the studio 1558, brightness control problem going on.

I added the repository with:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kamalmostafa/linux-kamal-mjgbacklight/ppa

Then I did:
sudo apt-get update

It still wouldn't work, so I ran this:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I guess I'll reboot, and see if it works.

Aaron

PS I noticed I could "manually" add the ppa with this:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kamalmostafa/linux-kamal-mjgbacklight/ubuntu
maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kamalmostafa/linux-kamal-mjgbacklight/ubuntu
maverick main

How is that different from what I've done?

[Bug 519031] Re: rsnapshot does not support using link_dest and sync_first simultaneously

2011-05-16 Thread Numérigraphe
The minimal fix is to not test whether the .sync directory exists, as was
introduced upsteam in rsnapshot-program.pl v1.377.
A patch is available at
http://rsnapshot.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/rsnapshot/rsnapshot/rsnapshot-program.pl?r1=1.377&r2=1.378&view=patch
I pushed a branch with this fix at
lp:~numerigraphe/rsnapshot/fix-sync_first-link_dest .

FYI, a cleanup patch was also applied upstream in rsnapshot-program.pl
v1.416, but it doesn't apply cleanly to the code in lucid. This patch is
at http://rsnapshot.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/rsnapshot/rsnapshot
/rsnapshot-program.pl?r1=1.415&r2=1.416&view=patch

Public bug reported:

I was trying to watch Quartermass on dailymotion because Warren Ellis
recommended it and the sound didn't come through. Then it seemed like sound
didn't work on any other pages. Then I tried using banshee and that didn't
work either. Then I looked up how to troubleshoot audio issues and running
ubuntu bug audio was recommended.
I'm using ubuntu 11.04

[Bug 772873] Re: Vino is now completely useless

2011-05-16 Thread Jean-Philippe LECHÊNE
Hello guys,

Using remote desktop to access Ubuntu desktop for a while I had to face
the same issue with composition enabled. As a temporary workaround, for
the time being, I use an application name TeamViewer
(http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/index.aspx). If it is not
perfect, at least it copes well for me with the Unity desktop.

Hope this help. Regards.

[Bug 783354] [NEW] notification icons do not respond when clicked on directly

2011-05-16 Thread Zeth
Public bug reported:

When I click on the email icon, or any notification icon to the left of
it, there is no response whatsoever. However the clock icon and
everything to the right of it are working just fine. I have to click on
the clock icon, or any icon to the right of it, and slide the cursor to
the left to get the volume icon, and all the following icons to the
left, to respond.

I have searched diligently for a solution, or even for others with the
issue, but have come up with nothing.

[Bug 626178] Re: ufw package contains mo files

2011-05-16 Thread David Planella
Ok, so after Gabor's comment I had another look as well. I've linked a
branch that fixes the problem in the code.

However, I haven't submitted a merge proposal yet because the fix still
needs some extra bits on the packaging side, and I'm not an expert on
that.

Basically, what I've done is to use python-distutils-extra to add support for
building translations and updating the .pot file using standard practices. What
is left to do is:
a) that the package calls python-distutils-extra during the build in order to
build and install the .mo files, and
b) that the package produces a .pot file on build.

Generally, the CDBS-based packages I've seen use the following classes
to do that, which take care of everything, but I'm not too sure how to
best do it with the ufw package.

include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/python-distutils.mk
include /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/langpack.mk

Jamie, do you think you could have a look at it and add the missing
packaging bits to the linked branch?

[Bug 783238] Re: Uninstalled Thunderbird and set Evolution as default but Thunderbird still shown in Dash.

2011-05-16 Thread Richard Senior
Thanks for the suggestion, but those instructions are for 10.04. This is
primarily a Unity problem (with the Dash).

I think I have worked around the problem by deleting local .desktop
shortcuts for mail programs from ~/.local/share/applications, copied
/usr/share/applications/evolution.desktop to
~/.local/share/applications, reset Evolution as my preferred email
client and the Dash is now correctly displaying Evolution.

It could be that this problem was just specific to my setup, but I'll
leave the bug here. If nobody confirms it, it can be closed.
