[Bug 760452] Re: polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 not started at first login
** Description changed: Binary package hint: policykit-1-gnome Hi, I would like to (re)open a bug. The behavior is exactly the same as these, but the triggering conditions are different: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/568748 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/568748. - We're using many Ubuntu 10.04 LTS clients, kerberized to authenticate against a Kerberos Realm. We had to switch to a new kerberos Realm, thus we overwrote the settings on the clients and rebooted the machines. - After the reboot the machines authenticated correctly against the new realm and everything seemed right. - We later discovered it was not possible, for graphical programs requesting root privileges, to prompt for password. The password dialog didn't appear. One of the affected program is ubuntu software center, just to name one. + We're using many Ubuntu 10.04 LTS clients, kerberized to authenticate against a Kerberos Realm. We had to switch to a new kerberos Realm and LDAP directory, thus we overwrote the settings on the clients (ldap.conf, krb5.conf, pam.d files) and rebooted the machines. + After the reboot the machines authenticated correctly against the new realm and LDAP directory and everything seemed right. + We later discovered it was not possible, for graphical programs requesting root privileges, to prompt for password. The password dialog didn't appear. One of the affected program is ubuntu software center, just to name one. Sudoing via console or gnome-terminal worked fine. - We tackled down the problem to the polkit-agent: after we changed the kerberos and pam settings, it doesn't start anymore at first login, even if the /etc/xdg/autostart/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop file is present and correct. + We tackled down the problem to the polkit-agent: after we changed the kerberos, ldap and pam settings, it doesn't start anymore at first login, even if the /etc/xdg/autostart/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.desktop file is present and correct. The strange behavior is this: the polkit-agent doesn't start at first login but, If the user logs out and in again, the polkit-agent starts just fine. The problem can be easily reproduced: after a reboot, the user must log in, log out, and log in again for the agent to start properly (or start it manually, of course). - I can't find any helpful hint on the logs mentioning polkit-gnome- - authentication-agent-1. I'm providing you the .xsession-error and - .xsession-error.old. + UPDATE (copied from my own comment): + the problem is triggered by the modification of ldap.conf file. Changing other files (namely krb5.conf and pam.d files) does not trigger the problem. + The phenomenon disappears when reverting back to the original files, but all of them (changing back the ldap.conf file is not enough to fix the problem). + + + I can't find any helpful hint on the logs mentioning polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1. I'm providing you the .xsession-error and .xsession-error.old. [Bug 760587] Re: Screen interface hangs when running some KDE apps in Unity compiz
Some updated information following the recent Natty updates. These two updates (and the bugs they were to solve) seem to have improved but not fixed the issue: Unity 3.8.8-0ubuntu1 #757709 Compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110411-0ubuntu2 #758307 If the KDE sound system is off in the KDE notification system settings then Krita and Kpresenter will almost always start fine. Kdevelop however, still causes the same interface hang on exiting the program (starts OK). When this happens, after I kill Xorg and log back in Knotify is again eating the CPU. If the KDE Sound system is on for its notifications then Krita will once again hang the window system. Again, killing Xorg and login back in shows Knotify using all the CPU. I seem to always be able to start Kpresenter without hanging the window system now even with the sound on for Notifications. When I get the chance I'll go through the DebuggingProgramCrash guide and try and get some more info. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760587 Title: Screen interface hangs when running some KDE apps in Unity compiz -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 752159] Re: unity launcher search doesn't find anything
Apt will take new recommends into account, but its likely that the following scenario happend: a new recommends was added but unity-place- applications was not installable at the time (because of e.g. libs not yet build or something). Then apt tried to install it, failed and skipped it (as its just a recommends). Next time the recommends was not "new" anymore so it skipped it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752159 Title: unity launcher search doesn't find anything -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 761449] [NEW] blank space above desktop when using multiple monitors with different vertical heights
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: metacity Hi, Seems this problem has been there forever and it continues. I have a laptop 1600x900 display coupled to another 1920x1080 desktop display. after setting up a extended desktop in the monitor settings, i noticed there's a blank space my mouse can disappear into when pointing around the 1600x900. Attached is a screenshot that explains it much easily! Proposed solution is: Make mouse pointer snap to top of the shorter display when moving back from a taller one, assuming it would otherwise move into the black zone. Not sure of the package. Since I am not running nvidia proprietary drivers or Gallium, its nouveau + metacity i believe. Although since the problem exists in compiz as well it probably has something to do with X :( Please correct? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I have chromium-browser set as the default. I have chromium pinned to the launchbar and "unpinned" firefox. I came into a situation (that I cannot reproduce (yet)) where the chromium browser is minimized, but pressing it's button on the launchbar does nothing. The lauchpar button has a leftside arrow, but not a right side arrow. The browser did appear again when called by ubuntu-bug to report this bug... [Bug 761356] Re: Jockey backend crashed when cancelling activating a proprietary driver
I have fixed the problem of replacing video card. My steps: 1. Disable (not uninstall!) the onboard card using Device Manager in Safe Mode (enter by pressing F8) (now the monitor is plugged into the onboard card). Reboot computer. 2. Enter BIOS -> Advanced -> PCI/PnP Configuration -> Boots Graphic Adapter Priority -> Select "Slot 6" instead of previous "Onboard VGA" (the NVIDIA GT430 card is on slot 6). Turn off computer. 3. Plug the monitor into the NVIDIA GT430 card. 4. Start computer.
