Some updated information following the recent Natty updates. These two updates (and the bugs they were to solve) seem to have improved but not fixed the issue: Unity 3.8.8-0ubuntu1 #757709 Compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110411-0ubuntu2 #758307
If the KDE sound system is off in the KDE notification system settings then Krita and Kpresenter will almost always start fine. Kdevelop however, still causes the same interface hang on exiting the program (starts OK). When this happens, after I kill Xorg and log back in Knotify is again eating the CPU. If the KDE Sound system is on for its notifications then Krita will once again hang the window system. Again, killing Xorg and login back in shows Knotify using all the CPU. I seem to always be able to start Kpresenter without hanging the window system now even with the sound on for Notifications.
