[Bug 475500] Re: No medium in floppy drive

2009-11-17 Thread KevinM
Sergio. As you can see in post #12 above I've again run your command 'sudo
apport-collect -p linux 475500' as requested (without quotes).
Just to clarify. I run a number of versions of Ubuntu. The version with the
problem is Lucid Lynx. The installation was a clean install of Karmic, which
was upgraded by changing all the software sources to Lucid (using details
posted on the Ubuntu forums). The most recent update/upgrade was yesterday
afternoon (UK time) via the Main Server. Every time I've run you command it's
been done with Lucid Lynx running. I cut and pasted your command into
terminal. Included in the terminal output each and every time was

What does it work around?
Does it do more then just hiding the out of disk error?
If so then we probable have some bug in the error handling.

The kernel out of disk error is a sign for either a bug in our
filesystem code or in the filesystem itself.
Unfortunately reiserfs is the only filesystem for which we have debug
code.
Though it could also be a BIOS bug that it reports a different disk size
then it actually has.
>

I doubt this function is the problem.
And if you would have looked a few lines below where this function gets
actually called it would give you at least a hint how you can find out
for which sector number that function fails.

To get the disk dprintfs shown in rescue mode the following should work,
but it seems like the pager only works in mormal mode.
sudo -s
printf 'set pager=1\nset debug=disk' > /boot/grub/rescue.cfg
In /usr/sbin/grub-install change this line
  $grub_mkimage --output=${grubdir}/core.img
--prefix=${prefix_drive}${relative_grubdir} $modules || exit 1
to this
  $grub_mkimage --config=${grubdir}/rescue.cfg --output=${grubdir}/core.img
--prefix=${prefix_drive}${relative_grubdir} $modules || exit 1
and then just run it like usual.

Though because you're already familiar with compiling and modifying it
you could also replace the grub_dprintf with normal grub_printfs.

[Bug 442195] Re: neither mplayer or vlc does not show any videos

2009-11-17 Thread Toupeiro
I'm afraid I have to disagree that this issue is due to a failed
upgrade.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=820#post820

I tried a clean install of devede where all the dependencies had to be
fetched from official repositories and I can reproduce this issue
exactly.

I cannot simply remove the packages as mentioned above without removing
the applications I want to use, and I cannot install libavcodec52 first
without it being uninstalled by dvd and replaced by the extra-52 and
unstripped-52 versions.

I only have official repositories enabled.

[Bug 484058] [NEW] Ubuntu-Nautilus does not support "German digital identification card" framework

2009-11-17 Thread TM8471
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In november 2010 Germany's physical identification card will be enhanced
with digital functionalities. This new Internet ID card is called
"Elektronischer Personalausweis" (ePA). It will work as digital Internet
ID card with digital adress verification, log-in verification and will
have age verification. Moreover it will contain personal digital
signature.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services works now on implementing the software
framework into a Windows system and it won't be Open Source.

The German Federal Agency for Information technology security (BSI)
defined a software framework called "eCard-API-Framework (BSI
TR-03112)".

There is no comparable project for Linux systems. This should be
changed, because an Internet based ID card is the killer application for
the next years. Moreover, it is necessary that this IT infrastructure
computer code gets peer review by the public.

In november 2010 Germany's physical identification card will be enhanced
with digital functionalities. This new Internet ID card is called
"Elektronischer Personalausweis" (ePA). It will work as digital Internet
ID card with digital adress verification, log-in verification and will
have age verification. Moreover it will contain personal digital
  signature.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services works now on implementing the software
framework into a windows system and it won't be Open Source.

The German Federal Agency for Information technology security (BSI)
defined a software framework called "eCard-API-Framework (BSI
  TR-03112)".

There is no comparable project for Linux systems. This should be
changed, because an Internet based ID card is the killer application for
the next years. Moreover, it is necessary that this IT infrastructure
- computer code gots peer review by the public.
+ computer code gets peer review by the public.

I think we have a tripping point now. Thanks everybody for helping!
I'll get back to the USB developers with these values. In the meantime we could
set up a PPA that contains the udelay(400) patch, I'll look into this once I
have some time!

[Bug 484061] [NEW] Built-mic always capture sounds automatically if no other audio being played

2009-11-17 Thread hangyu
Public bug reported:

Built-mic always capture sounds automatically about 20s later when the other
audio stopped,
And the sound from the built-mic would be turuned off if you start an audio
configure tool OR just play an audio file.
It's very strange that I have already set the MIC playback to MUTE in alsamixer.
It only happends on my built-mic , while the extra mic NOT.

[Bug 473611] Re: Amarok stopped scrobbling to last.fm

2009-11-17 Thread Thilo-Alexander Ginkel
I am re-opening this bug (and un-duping it) since this seems to be a
genuinely new issue. In reply to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+bug/355308/comments/60:

I upgraded to Amarok 2.2.1, but last.fm scrobbling is still broken
(i.e., the credentials do not survive closing the last.fm config dialog)
when the Wallet service is disabled in System Settings.

[Bug 484067] [NEW] Invalid lujvo

2009-11-17 Thread poseidon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lojban-common

>From /usr/share/lojban/lujvo.txt, line 2029:
natmyrgu'e#nation+country:fatherland, motherland:$gugde1 $gugde2 $=natmi2
$gugde3

The r is an unnecessary and therefore invalid hyphen.

$ echo "natmyrgu'e" | jbofihe -x
Unrecognizable word 'natmyrgu'e' at line 1 column 1

The proper lujvo is natmygu'e.

$ echo "natmygu'e" | jbofihe -x
[<>]

In other words, it should read:
natmygu'e#nation+country:fatherland, motherland:$gugde1 $gugde2 $=natmi2 $gugde3

[Bug 286424] Re: nvidia-settings crashes when user clicks Save To X Configuration File

2009-11-17 Thread Fabian A. Scherschel
I've been following this bug for quite a while and it is pretty clear
that this is *NOT* a permissions problem. I've always run nvidia-
settings with gksudo / sudo and the problem was always there. So please
don't mark as fixed because of permissions.

I have not tested this with the latest Karmic update but the program did
crash when run with root privileges on a then-uptodate Karmic as late as
last week.

Kernel option 'nomodset' does not solve the problem, neither does an

not due to enabled KMS im my opinion.

[Bug 435352] Re: regression: uvcvideo module makes "cannot reset port" error on usb with bison webcam (5986:0203): USB and suspend fails

2009-11-17 Thread steve.horlsey
Gah! I'm so far behind you guys! I followed the procedure in #126 with little
or no comprehension of what I was doing. Copy/paste, so I shouldn't have got it
wrong.
Woke up this morning and found that I only have 2 of the 5 debs I'm supposed to
have:
linux-headers-2.6.31-15-core2_2.6.31-15.49_i386.deb
linux-image-2.6.31-15-core2_2.6.31-15.49_i386.deb
Any idea where I might have gone wrong? Those won't install on their own
because of dependencies on the missing ones.

[Bug 484062] Re: When luciole is on acquisition and close/destroy button is clicked Luciole exit but acquistion still running

2009-11-17 Thread NicoInattendu
Solution was taken to force destroy event in application instead of modifying

The reason is that glade lib must be replaced by gtk builder. Replacement of
libglade by gtkBuilder must be done carefully. A luciole blueprint shall be
opened for this topic.

[Bug 482980] Re: TZdata update bad for Lightning

2009-11-17 Thread madtom1999
FIXED:
I removed the lightning-extension (Tools/Addons) from Thunderbird - this is
probably installed direct from Mozilla?
And replaced it with the one from the repositories and re-started Thnderbird
and all appears to be back.

Perhaps something should be added to the Ubu package to prevent this?

I will add it to root's crontab:

[Bug 463376] Re: can't catch $USER in /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default

2009-11-17 Thread Robert Chalmas
I also have this problem on my laptop running Karmic with all updates
available as of November 16th.

If I put those 3 lines in /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default:

echo $USER > /tmp/aaa.txt
echo $USERNAME >> /tmp/aaa.txt
echo $LOGNAME >> /tmp/aaa.txt

after every login I get this result:

$ cat /tmp/aaa.txt
gdm
gdm
gdm

I would expect to get my real login name in those 3 variables instead of
"gdm", which is of no use to take specific action based on which user is
logging in. This was working as expected with at least the 3 previous
versions of Ubuntu.

[Bug 450184] Re: Empathy causes memory leak on Openfire Server

2009-11-17 Thread davenz
I can confirm seeing an identical issue, specifically implicating
Empathy on Ubuntu Linux 9.10 x86 connecting to OpenFire 3.6.4.

Further updates in this thread:

http://www.igniterealtime.org/community/message/196905

Excerpt from one of my posts:

"In this case I was able to expend JVM memory completely in about five
(5) minutes from bringing the OF server up - simply by repeatedly
exiting and launching Empathy rapidly. This was with one user (me), with
the remaining three or so users...using Spark or Pidgin"

I can reproduce this consistently. Pidgin 2.6.2 and Spark 2.5.8 clients
don't result in this behaviour.

Cheers,
Dave
