This new Internet ID card is called "Elektronischer Personalausweis" (ePA). It will work as digital Internet ID card with digital adress verification, log-in verification and will have age verification. Moreover it will contain personal digital signature. The German Federal Agency for Information technology security (BSI) defined a software framework called "eCard-API-Framework (BSI TR-03112)". There is no comparable project for Linux systems. This should be changed, because an Internet based ID card is the killer application for the next years.
