[Bug 446406] Re: Reprompts for e-mail password every 10 minutes

2009-10-27 Thread Wes Peterson
I have now had evolution up for well over 24 hours with no reprompt for
a password.

I apologize for reporting a bug that seems to have been actually due to
my ISP's login server problems. I had recalled getting an update to
evolution recently and had incorrectly assumed that the update had
broken something (all of us programmers have had that nightmare at one
time in our lives).

Please mark this bug as a non-issue that was due to my not trying the
web-mail service first.

Thank you for your time and effort in a great product!

[Bug 456631] Re: fstab is not mounting at boot

2009-10-27 Thread markba
The behaviour was changing, as updates for Karmic kept coming in.

Suddendly, the fstab connection was made. On the same time, there was a
message displayed for a period of time in the splash screen: 'Could not
mount .. at this time. Press Esc to continu'. Doing nothing (so
*not* presssing Esc) resulted in a successfull connection, so the
message was not nice but workable.

A few updates later, even the message disappeared.

The bug can be closed as 'Fix released'.

[Bug 301206] Re: [regression] wesnoth has horribly crackling sound

2009-10-27 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
The difference in pulseaudio between Debian and Ubuntu is rather big -
maybe this should get investigated by the people that did that changes
and are closer involved with this part, maybe try to reduce the patch
gap with getting a collaboration done between the Debian pulseaudio
people and the Ubuntu people looking after it?

http://patches.ubuntu.com/p/pulseaudio/pulseaudio_1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4.patch

Don't get me wrong, it might not be related to it, but it's the only
thing that currently comes to my mind digging around for the issue.

[Bug 461707] [NEW] Unmount icon active for volumes that cannot be unmounted

2009-10-27 Thread lavinog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility

Palimpsest Disk Utility shows an icon for unmounting a disk volume even if the
user doesn't have permission to unmount it.
To recreate:
Select the partition mounted at /
The unmount icon in the toolbar is enabled. After clicking on it I get a
error: "Error unmounting: umount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
umount: only root can unmount UUID=84cadf52-515e-47d7-a0c7-a12bb53ea9a3 from /"

I also noticed the Delete button is also enabled, but I don't think I
want to see if it does anything.

The program should be able to determine if the user has permission
beforehand and disable the buttons.

[Bug 461709] [NEW] Mouse clicks on menus do not function or are displaced

2009-10-27 Thread Jedasothi
Public bug reported:

I am unsure whether this is the proper package. I have tested 2
dependent packages.

In Poe (package poe.app), i am unable to clicking on menu entries has no
effect.

In addressmanager.app , when i first ran it, a click on the menu
activated the entry about 4 entries below where i clicked instead of the
entry i clicked. This was also true for clicking on the title bar.
After much clicking, the clicks became correctly located on the menu,
even after closing and restarting the app.

I speculate that these bugs have a common cause, although i am
especially uncertain now that AddressManager is correctly handling the
clicks on the menu and Poe still does not.

For both apps, I can summon the menu by double clicking on the icon.
The keyboard functions for entries Hide & Quit.

[Bug 51569] Re: Thumbnails are created for all video files, regardless of size (limit)

2009-10-27 Thread Kent Clarstroem
To mark this Invalid is completely wrong if you ask me. You would have to
change the dialog in Nautilus to say "Don't make thumbnails for IMAGES larger
then" rather then just chuck it under "Other previewable files".
This very much feels like a bug to the ordinary user who has no concept of what
it entails to make thumbnails of this or that file and shouldn't have to!

[Bug 417842] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:52 suspend_test_finish+0x7c/0x80()

2009-10-27 Thread Brendan_P
Hi All,

Same symptoms for me on a Dell Studio XPS 16 running ATI non-free
drivers.

Another issue, trying to see if this related, is that on resume, both my
external display and laptop display are activated even though I'm using
only external display normally. I have to logout and log back in to
reset config. Kind of defeats the object of suspend/resume.

Cheers
Brendan

[Bug 461710] [NEW] Panel fails to load fast user switch applet

2009-10-27 Thread Kainalu
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded to 9.10RC (KOALA) through update-manager -d. Upon
re-booting, I get the following error:

The panel encountered a problem while loading
"OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".

This happens on every logon. Also, (may be un-related) I also see a
strange boot-screen at boot that looks more like a monitor diagnostic
screen than a boot splash instead of the nice boot screen that Ubuntu is
supposed to come with as well as the logon screen is an ugly plain tan
color with ugly, plain icons instead of the nice, gradiated dark brown
color it should be.

[Bug 461718] [NEW] [karmic] Avidemux doesn't work anymore to me after upgrade to karmic: complains that no keyframe was selected as starting point

2009-10-27 Thread Xavi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avidemux

Avidemux doesn't work anymore to me after I upgraded to to Ubuntu karmic
beta (using macbookpro 5.5): it complains that no keyframe was selected
as starting point. Tried with different source file formats (m2t, mpeg,
mp4, ...) but no way, always the same error to me.

In the past, I never had to set anything related to "keyframes", I just
selected start point (A) and end point (B) for splicing a video, and
save the shorter video.

I also tried moving the starting point for the cut forward to the "next
keyframe", but no way either.

[Bug 461723] [NEW] "Connection failed, reconnecting" repeatedly

2009-10-27 Thread Jedasothi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

See the .xsession-errors log.

I think the entries of
Usage:program_name [address][:port]
may be related. I have seen the same error message output to the console
profusely when running "grip".

I have not, run any X Windows applications as another user in this session.
There is no process named gnome-settings-daemon running.
I am only running apps on localhost.
I have not noticed errors which i associate with a missing
gnome-settings-daemon.
Gnome applications seem to be able to acquire their settings as long as the
user logged into the console is the same as the one running the application.

[Bug 426497] Re: kqemu mode not compiled for karmic

2009-10-27 Thread Nigel Pallett
If kqemu support is disabled in karmic, why are the kqemu-source and
kqemu-common packages available in the karmic repositories ?

I agree with Traumflug's comments - there are MANY multicore processors
shipping today that do not support KVM, plus of course, all of the lower
end processors.

The removal of kqemu support is not even mentioned in the Karmic Release
Notes !!

[Bug 461725] [NEW] rc-sysinit job might start before loopback is up

2009-10-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

9.10RC, upstart 0.6.3-10
In previous releases, networking would get started in rcS.d/S40networking,
before the system switches to runlevel 2.
Now there is a race between the networking and the rc-sysinit job that may
result in some early daemons in runlevel 2 to be started before loopback is
available (i.e. rc2.d/S15dnsmasq).
According to slangasek this is a bug since "everything that rcS did for us
before should still be guaranteed".

Detail:
mountall: start on startup, emits local-filesystems, virtual-filesystems and
filesystem
udev: start on virtual-filesystems
udevtrigger: start on (startup and started udev)
networking: start on (local-filesystems and stopped udevtrigger)
rc-sysinit: start on filesystem

Filed against upstart since /etc/init/rc-sysinit.conf is shipped by
upstart itself.

** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 461725] Re: rc-sysinit job might start before loopback is up

2009-10-27 Thread Thierry Carrez
Some IRC context:
I'm just trying to understand if (and if so, how) we know that the
loopback device is available once we start going through rc2.d/S* scripts.
..since that used to be the case (given that networking ran at
rcS.d/S40)
..and some server software kinda expects at least loopback to be up when
started.
 for example, rc2.d/S15dnsmasq
soren: we don't; it's racy; file a bug on upstart
slangasek: You agree that having lo available in runlevel 2 is a
reasonable expectation?
soren: yes, everything that rcS did for us before should still be
guaranteed
unfortunately, switching /half/ of our init system has introduced a
few race conditions

There is an active thread on the Ayatana mailing list which includes the
current thinking on the notification position. Individual bugs saying
"too high" or "too low" or "should be somewhere else" should shift their
focus to that thread. We will try some other options for Lucid, then
move on.

Thanks for your reply Markus.

The ~/.xsession-errors file from the session when it hangs would be
interessting. Maybe it gives a clue about the hang.

I wonder if maybe when update-manager hanged a "apport" window was on

happen to have a bigger photo of the screen with the taskbar ?

2009-10-27 Thread Michael Vogt
@Raph: the memtest that gave errors during install is fixed.

@Jamie: thanks for the log. it shows indeed that grub2 is removed. But
unfortunately it does not tell why apt did it. The release upgrade
writes out the "problemResolver" log so that those issues can be better
analyized. I will try to reproduce the removal in a VM now.

[Bug 426048] Re: [ath5k] Ubuntu Karmic Alpha5 with Atheros AR 5211 802.11 ab NIC Won't Connect to an Unsecured Wireless Network

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 461419 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461419

@ Lorenco Trichardt

Yes I totally disagree that, this bug # 426048 should not be made
duplicate of bug # 461419 because:

(1) Bug # 461419 description twice mentions of "IBM hardware" while my
laptop is Toshiba not IBM.

(2) Bug # 461419 also mentions "connection and performance issues on IBM
hardware" while I'm having one specific issue that it does not connect
_at all_ to an unsecured wireless network. (it works just fine with a
secured wireless network)

(3) Bug # 461419 description also clarifies to post comment etc ONLY
"If you are affected by this issue using the ath5k driver on IBM
hardware" let me repeat "issue using the ath5k driver on IBM
hardware"

I've already submitted _apport-collect 426048 to attach valuable infos_
as asked by Alexander Sack on October 05, '09

If anyone still wants me to run any test to get more data etc just let
me know, many thanks.

No, it doesn't work that way. An "exception" here would set back the
release by a whole week, due to the time involved in integrating kernel
changes and validating the resulting images. We aren't going to do that for
a single piece of hardware that's supported on a best effort basis - this is
entirely suitable for fixing in a post-release update.

There are many netbooks that aren't affected by this problem. Some of them
are sold with Ubuntu pre-installed.

[Bug 449679] Re: Karmic Koala Upgrade Uninstalls Grub 2

2009-10-27 Thread Michael Vogt
Its enough to just change the override file, I subscribe ubuntu-archive
for this. It just needs a change from priority "extra" to "optional" (to
match the priority of grub).

[Bug 455408] Re: karmic: USB-Devices are not detected

2009-10-27 Thread #Ernesto
Isn't this the same as bug #435352 ? Im on a MSI W100, clean Karmic alpha
install. Since last week's update, can't see USB devices (nothing on dmesg when
i plug them in), and can't suspend. There are at least 2 workarounds proposed
(no true solutions yet), that make USB ports usable. One is downgrading
usbutils to Jaunty. haven't tried that. The other is blacklisting the
conflicting uvcvideo module ("blacklist uvcvideo" in /etc/modules) making
built-in camera unusable, but restoring full USB and suspend functionality. it
worked for me.
Hope they fix this issue before release.
