[Bug 337964] Re: Power Manager is the only System->Preferences.. tool that can't be dismissed with ESC

2009-03-05 Thread Martin Pitt
I want to note that the standard key combination to close a window is
Ctrl+W for multi-window applications, and Ctrl+Q for singular windows.
Unfortunately gnome-control-center obeys neither (nor does gnome-power-
prefs), so maybe that should be fixed too/first.

[Bug 338119] [NEW] ClamAV dies after freshclam update

Public bug reported:

[Bug 275492] Re: monsterz.py crashed with error in blit()

2009-03-05 Thread Arnaud Jeansen
@Jon

The latest version 0.7.1-2ubuntu1 is not in the intrepid repositories
(see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/monsterz), only in the
upcoming jaunty version

To make it work, the work around is to manually install the jaunty
version (it works fine, this is how I made it work at home).

To do so:
1) Go at this address:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/monsterz/0.7.1-2ubuntu1
2) On the right hand side (Builds window), click on your architecture.
3) In the build page, on the right hand side (Resulting binaries window), click
on "monsterz 0.7.1-2ubuntu1" to manually download the jaunty package
4) Install the package with gdebi (it should be asked on file download) and
accept the installation (ignore the warning).

Good luck

[Bug 332716] Re: workrave doesn't notice input

2009-03-05 Thread Martin Pool
It's called for the event XRecordStartOfData.

Tracing through init_xrecord shows:

the server claims to support version 1.13. It seems to pass plausible
parameters to create the context and it then opens a separate datalink,
which also seems correct. Then it enables the context on that datalink,
and that immediately runs the callback with reasonable values to say
XRecordStartOfData. Then after that the callback's not run again and we
XRecordEnableContext doesn't return either.

[Bug 332716] Re: workrave doesn't notice input

2009-03-05 Thread Martin Pool
OK, so it turns out that I did not have the "record" module loaded in my
xorg.conf file. That file claims to have been generated by dexconf, but
it may be wrong, or it may at least be an unusual setup. I'm going to
add it and see if that helps.

If it does, I'd say this is still a workrave bug though maybe a minor
one: it tries to detect whether or not the server supports XRecord, but
apparently not successfully. Or arguably it's a xorg bug if it claims
to support XRecord even when the module's not loaded.

This is a bit similar to .

[Bug 337988] Re: services-admin says that a service is started but its /etc/default/ file has enabled = 0

2009-03-05 Thread marco.pallotta
Well, I don't think it's a special case as there are other services that
have the option ENABLED in /etc/default. If a user launches services-
admin to see if a service is started or not and the real things are
different than what services-admin lists, I think we have a bug (we are
disorienting the user).

What I think it's that the ENABLED options in /etc/default are redundants. In
fact if I want a service to start or not I should only have to manipulate
/etc/rc[0-6S].d and not, for particular services (that I don't know prior),
enable or disable also the field ENABLED in the corresponding files in
/etc/default.
This redundancy brings to this issue.
So for me, at last, services-admin may runs ok.

[Bug 336511] Re: [RV730] Cannot get 8.10 to recognize RV730 (Radeon 4650) card

2009-03-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Bug 325431 confirms that r4650 cards are working on Jaunty, even with
6.11.0 (which I wasn't sure of before).

Intrepid is using 6.9.0, which sounds like it is too old to support this
chip. Alpha versions of Jaunty are available at
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/, you probably want to
upgrade if you want to use this newer card.

[Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu

2009-03-05 Thread jmaasing
Oh, ok, the applets do what they are intended to do so this is not a
bug, my bad.

Still, a better wording in the "Add dialog" would be good. The use of "A" as in
"A custom menu bar" suggests it is different from "The" in "The main GNOME
menu". I thought it was a difference that I could add several "Custom"-menues
with different content.
Also the use of "custom" suggested to me that I, as a user of Ubuntu, could
customize the menu. Not that this was a custom implementation of a menu-viewer
program.

So perhaps it would be better to say something like
"The main GNOME menu" and "The compact menu"
or
"The main menu" and "The application menu"

Paul: let's learn Gnome and build the menu we both want :-)

[Bug 338126] [NEW] dev null inaccessable

2009-03-05 Thread Musashi
Public bug reported:

This is my first time reporting a bug

I tried to upgrade from Intrepid. I have a Nvidia graphics card. During
the upgrade it said something about running in low graphics mode. I must
have click the wrong button (keep going in low graphics mode) because
the whole thing crashed. I tried running apt-get upgrade and aptitude
from the command line (graphics wouldn't load. Things just got worse and
worse.

Some errors "I got were /dev/null permission denied" repeated about
fifty times immediately after login of a non root account. Someting like
"processing of packages failed/canceled because of to many errors."

I eventually had to wipe everything (I love my external HD). I ran the
install reformated with EXT4 and everything (including the NVidia driver
seems to work just fine).

I would have liked a better explaination of what Low Graphics mode was.
And I think a lot of the problem was that it upgraded X before it
upgraded the Graphics drivers. Maybe this should be switched

Hope I was helpfull!

Currently Using Jaunty Alpha 5

[Bug 336818] Re: After update to kernel 2.6.27-13, the system hangs during boot

2009-03-05 Thread Andy Whitcroft
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 337019 ***

Are you able to confirm whether the machine hung, or could the screen
just be blank at the point gdm is meant to start? We have a number of
other reports of that occuring with this kernel. See bug #337019 for
details and progress on that. If the screen is black, look for disk
activity or wifi activity when the hang occurs.

Same problem for me.

Do you have xinetd installed ?
It didn't work for me until i uninstalled xinet and installed openbsd-inetd

Is tfttp working ? what give netstat -apn | grep ":69 " ?

Strange thing too, the tftp daemon was running with udp6 protocol and
seems that was the reason why tftboot didn't worked.

[Bug 293424] Re: intrepid: iwl3945 won't connect with WEP passphrase

2009-03-05 Thread paulcone
I am also having a problem and I believe this bug is to blame. I have
been running Xubuntu for two years on a ThinkPad X21, connecting to my
Apple AirPort Graphite Base Station. I have never had issues connecting
but since the last update 18 days ago all of a sudden the computer does
not connect and I get the same dialog box that cactaur is getting above.
I confirmed the hex string matches the Hex equivalent value in the
AirPort software I run on my Mac, but I have never entered Hex before
from the Ubuntu box -- I entered ASCII before. Why all of a sudden is
it asking me to enter Hex? Seems like something got broken. Feel free
to contact me for more info if needed.

the janitor has nothing to do with that, the issue reported there has
been fixed, the logs file is not static but built on first start and
users who didn't run previous jaunty version will have no such issue,
I've reopen the bug to address the issue with the gconf key or log
changes though

the nominations are there to mark blockers for jaunty, that issue now is
a minor one happening for early jaunty users only and has no reason to
be set as a blocker

[Bug 303068] Re: Static IP ethernet network setting is lost after reboot

2009-03-05 Thread troutmask
I'm afraid I've ditched Ubuntu and gone back to Fedora 9. Fedora 9
network configuration works fine and, although the VPN client is not
quite as easy to use as that on the Ubuntu gnome network-manager it
always works with eth0 configured to a static address. On a differeet
issue, cron also always works on Fedora 9 which it doesn't on Ubuntu
8.04/8.10

[Bug 337759] Re: openerp-server depends on python-xml and is therefore uninstallable ATM

2009-03-05 Thread Z
Heh, after installing cleanly it still doesn't run:

1.)
The README.Debian states the startup script is located in
 /usr/sbin/openerp-server
while it's in
/usr/bin/openerp-server

2.) Seems like python-xml is really needed:

#su - postgres -c "/usr/bin/openerp-server --init=all
--config=/etc/openerp-server.conf --stop-after-init"
ERROR: Import xpath module
ERROR: Try to install the old python-xml package

It's installed obviously, since python-xml is a dependency.

[Bug 337676] Re: python2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in PyType_IsSubtype()

2009-03-05 Thread Benny
note from downstream:
This code works on python2.5 without problems, so it is python2.6 related.
Furthermore, python2.5 contains the same gtk/pygtk version as python2.6 so that
should not be to blame.
It appears also that sometimes the crash does not appear, so it is not 100%
reproducable.

[Bug 337214] Re: upgrade to kernel 2.6.27-13 broke the system

2009-03-05 Thread Michele Nasti
Well, actually the gdm doesn't start at all: i mean that there is a
complete black screen, I only see the bluetooth and wifi led, but i
can't do anything like switching to a terminal. maybe if I post a video
of it it could be better? I don't think I can test the network pinging
because I don't have a way to check without wireless. This afternoon
i'll try out at home if I can.

[Bug 294648] Re: svn over https with client certificates broken (regression in intrepid)

2009-03-05 Thread Mike Walton
I have a simpler workaround, that does not involve root privileges and
messing with /usr/lib links.

alias svn='LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libneon.so.27 svn'

This causes the non-GnuTLS library to be preloaded, which means the
linker uses its symbols by preference. I added this to my .bashrc for
seamless operation.

with the latest code. ISO images are available at

Salut Sebastien,

A6Q00VA. I couldn't boot Linux after a kernel update. Not even the safe
mode would start. Perhaps the problem lies in kernel and not in grub?

[Bug 295311] Re: Backlight brightness does not change on Gateway P-6317 laptop

2009-03-05 Thread brotherquintus
I seem to have the same problem with my Samsung P560 laptop.

When I press Fn-up or Fn-down there is an indication that the brightness-level
is changed, but it doesn't.
When I try to use the hal-system-lcd-get-brightness script I get: 10:
hal-functions : not found

I used to change the brightness level via a self written script by
writing to the file /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness, but this file
vanished a while ago, together with the NVID directory. It was just
gone, from one day to the next :(

I think that this bug probably has something to do with the missing
brightness file (at least in my case)

[Bug 289216] Re: [Mobility x1600] Dual-head flickers

2009-03-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hmm, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be
retested on latest Jaunty to make sure the issue still happens there
with the latest code. ISO images are available at
http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/. If you can reproduce it in
the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed
system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log from this testing.

[Bug 284148] Re: /debian/scripts/misc/splitconfig.pl not executable

2009-03-05 Thread Andy Whitcroft
The page you link to indicates that these scripts are indeed likely to
be lacking their permissions bits. There is this just after the
instructions to run update configs:

For these two commands to work, you may need to give the scripts in the
debian/scripts/misc directory execute permission with the following command:

chmod a+x *

This is triggered by a limitation in the version of debian package we
are using for the kernel, which uses an orig.tar.gz + diff form and
cannot carry execute bits. This may be fixed later when this package
changed but not currently. Note that normally we would build kernels
from the kernel git tree directly (see http://kernel.ubuntu.com) which
do correctly carry these permissions bits.

[Bug 338138] [NEW] When disk full revelation kills password db.

2009-03-05 Thread Antono Vasiljev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: revelation

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open revelation with password file.
2. Make your disk full.
3. Add some passwords.
4. Try to save file.

Expected (normal) result: passwords a savead.
Actually i got empty password.db and message like (unable to save blah blah).

So ALL MY PASSWORDS WAS LOST. (ofcourse i have backup ;))

Revelation should check availible space first and then try to write
passwords.db.

It's very serious bug it causes data loss.

[Bug 311057] Re: Add to Panel - Menu bar just reproduces Main menu

2009-03-05 Thread Paul Whipp
The wording should be fixed, particularly as the more obvious meaning is
that it does something that I think a lot of people would like (they
probably try the menu, fail and forget about it rather than whinge like
us).

I'd seriously love to implement a proper "Custom menu" option in gnome
(or whatever) but I'm very time poor at the moment and I suspect it
would take me a week of overhead to learn enough to implement and submit
something like that as part of jaunty (especially as I'd definitely want
to also reword or remove the current confusing options).

[Bug 303224] Re: garbled Emacs display when running under compiz with nvidia drivers

2009-03-05 Thread indium
Similar story here:
I have a macbook pro 4.1 (core 2duo) with an uptodate ubuntu 8.10. the terminal
urxvt give the most refresh problems. When it spits out long lists (like for
'locate e') the terminal screen gets scrambled). Even sometimes the update
manager screen list (of to-be-updated ubuntu items) scrambles. I've not seen a
difference between the 173 and 177 drivers.

I now switched from compiz to metacity, which resolved the problem, so
I'd say that the problem is purely graphics card. (never a program
crashed or complained about the scrambling).
