I seem to have the same problem with my Samsung P560 laptop.

When I press Fn-up or Fn-down there is an indication that the brightness-level
is changed, but it doesn't.
When I try to use the hal-system-lcd-get-brightness script I get: 10:
hal-functions : not found

I used to change the brightness level via a self written script by
writing to the file /proc/acpi/video/NVID/LCD/brightness, but this file
vanished a while ago, together with the NVID directory. It was just
gone, from one day to the next :(

I think that this bug probably has something to do with the missing
brightness file (at least in my case)
