Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity Testing installation from Kubuntu daily build 20070401. Test system HP Pavilion N5472 20GB HDD 256MB RAM Started installer from desktop icon. At disk partitioning step selected 'guided - use entire disk'. Proceeded through steps 5 and 6 then clicked the install button. System displays an 'Installing System' box with a progress bar. Progress bar gets to 5% then a message box appears with the message: The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed. Clicking on OK on this message box drops me back to the disk partitioning page. If I select 'guided - use entire disk' again I get the same result. I will post /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman. Is anything else required? At the start of today the HDD of this system had a working installation of Xubuntu feisty on it from an earlier daily build test. Earlier today I used the same CD that generated the above error to install Kubuntu selecting 'guided - auto-resize' as the partitioning method. At this point I had working installations of both Xubuntu and Kubuntu on this system. It's only if I try to use the entire disk that installation fails. [Bug 99916] mythtv-database should better explain the mysql password for root
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv-database The mythtv-database configuration dialog prompts the user to enter the password for the root mysql account. I'd say a good number of users get rather confused here. The help button has an excellent explanation of what the default password is. The help dialog should be removed and this explanation should just be put on the main configuration page. I think this would help a lot of people out. ** Affects: mythtv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- mythtv-database should better explain the mysql password for root https://launchpad.net/bugs/99916 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Attached is a crash "stacktrace" (report) generated using the second method described on http://beagle- project.org/Troubleshooting#Beagle_crashes_on_login . It ends with an address boundary error. Beagled crashes not only when I log in, but consistently every time I start it. I just start it from the command line and watch it crash after about 1 minute. [Bug 99926] Undetectable wacom tablet in graphics apps
Public bug reported: Hi -- I recently installed Feisty Fawn on my system and am quite happy with most of it, except for the fact that my Wacom Intuos USB tablet is undetectable by Gimp, Inkscape, and any other graphics app. The error reported back is: No Extended Input Devices. xorg.conf is configured properly and the stylus is moving the cursor around. However, the device simply cannot be detected as a tablet in any of the apps. Right now, it's functioning merely as a glorified mouse. I did find a forum that addressed the problem on Edgy with a solution that involved rebuilding and installing wacom.ko, but that's not the most intuitive way for most users to work around this issue (I believe this is a Kernel Module issue). [Bug 99925] mythfrontend should use the eject command not myth's eject function
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythtv-frontend Mythtv's frontend application uses a build in function eject to eject the media drive. Unfortunetly it looks like there are lots of problems with getting this to work if the system automounts. There are a few different hacks that people have used to get the eject menu item to work. Both involve editing the eject action in /usr/share/mythtv/optical_menu.xml. Some users change the action to EXEC umount /dev/dvd; eject, but most users seem to be changing this to EXEC eject. The system's eject application seems to be a lot more reliable than myth's. Using this line I was able to get the eject menu to work. [Bug 99932] libgtk2's library libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls undefined symbol gdk_font_from_description_for_display
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls a function called gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is supposed to be in libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0, but that function is deprecated according to GDK documentation (http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gdk/gdk- Fonts.html#id2638107) Instead, libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 defines a function Gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is in essence the same, but with an uppercase first character. I stumbled across this problem when trying to run a python program with GTK bindings, and I think this is the easiest way to reproduce it too: #!/usr/bin/env python import egg.trayicon if __name__ == "__main__": print "hello world" Running this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ ./test.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "./test.py", line 2, in ? import egg.trayicon ImportError: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: gdk_font_from_description_for_display [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ I solved the problem by using LD_PRELOAD and just mapping the function called in libgtk-x11 to the one defined in libgdk-x11. It would probably be best to fix the package permanently though... I run Ubuntu Edgy and upgraded all packages. ii libgtk2.0-02.10.6-0ubuntu3.1 The GTK+ graphical user interface library kind regards, -- Steven ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- libgtk2's library libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls undefined symbol gdk_font_from_description_for_display https://launchpad.net/bugs/99932 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same here. This functionality is highly exposed. Anyone who wants to test a microphone will use the audio-recorder. [Bug 99919] Re: upgrade tool crashed in "cleanup" stage
As a precaution, I ran: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade from the console after the update tool crashed, but before I rebooted. It finished upgrading only one package (console-setup), and after a reboot, all was fine for me, too. Not sure if the apt-get dist-upgrade was even needed. -- upgrade tool crashed in "cleanup" stage https://launchpad.net/bugs/99919 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 96503] Re: Report a problem doesn't allow you to report a problem
I saw some updates come through, so tried this again. Now, I get this error: $ ubuntu-bug GTK Accessibility Module initialized GTK Accessibility Module initialized [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp/lphelpwiki$ The program 'firefox-bin' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 1949 error_code 3 request_code 20 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) -- Report a problem doesn't allow you to report a problem https://launchpad.net/bugs/96503 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
