If I open a it with "open file" (e.g. file I saved is called
'showthread.php') it does not open in firefox, but asks what
application to choose. What am I doing different?

[Bug 99908] The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0, 0, 0) (sda) failed.

2007-04-02 Thread Richard Birnie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Testing installation from Kubuntu daily build 20070401.
Test system
HP Pavilion N5472
20GB HDD
256MB RAM

Started installer from desktop icon. At disk partitioning step
selected 'guided - use entire disk'. Proceeded through steps 5 and 6
then clicked the install button. System displays an 'Installing
System' box with a progress bar. Progress bar gets to 5% then a
message box appears with the message:

The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda)
failed.

Clicking on OK on this message box drops me back to the disk
partitioning page. If I select 'guided - use entire disk' again I get
the same result. I will post /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman. Is
anything else required?

At the start of today the HDD of this system had a working
installation of Xubuntu feisty on it from an earlier daily build test.
Earlier today I used the same CD that generated the above error to
install Kubuntu selecting 'guided - auto-resize' as the partitioning
method. At this point I had working installations of both Xubuntu and
Kubuntu on this system. It's only if I try to use the entire disk that
installation fails. The md5sum of the ISO checks out and 'Check CD for
defects' returned no errors.

Just ask if any other info is required or if you want extra tests tried.

Update:
Following the error noted above I cancelled the install and shutdown the liveCD
from the main menu. Now when I go to boot the system it fails to boot. I just
see the following

Grub loading, please wait...
Error 22

So it looks as if the installer got as far as erasing the existing OSs.
Not sure how relevant this is I just thought I'd add it for completeness
of information. This isn't a problem for me since I only use that box
for testing anyway but it could be a problem for someone else.

approach in Feisty+1 with Beryl (and have a GSoC project lined up for
that).

[Bug 99917] aMule 2.1.3-1Ubuntu2 crashes while downloading IPfilter file

2007-04-02 Thread Hugin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amule

aMule 2.1.3-1Ubuntu2 fails to read the IPfilter file from it's directory
and crashes when downloading one from a webserver. Using aMule version
2.1.3-1 from the Debian repositories avoids both bugs, but that version
eats a lot of CPU power in Feisty (way more then it does in Edgy).

While trying to read the IPfilter file from the the HD, the aMule log states:
2007-04-01 23:04:38: Loading ipfilter.dat files.
2007-04-01 23:04:39: Error: Failed to convert file
"/home/tdr/.aMule/ipfilter.dat" to Unicode.
2007-04-01 23:04:39: Failed to load ipfilter.dat file
'/home/tdr/.aMule/ipfilter.dat', could not open file.

Loading an IPfilter file from a webserver crashes aMule, generating this error
report:

Host: ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net:80
URL: http://ufpr.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/emulepawcio/ipfilter.zip
Response: 200 (Error: 0)

A fatal error has occurred and aMule has crashed.
Please assist us in fixing this problem by posting the backtrace below in our

An even better setup would be if it could test the password the user
enters to make sure it's correct. It's a real bummer to enter the wrong
password and have to reconfigure the package after a bit of
troubleshooting.

[Bug 99916] mythtv-database should better explain the mysql password for root

2007-04-02 Thread Timothy Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-database

The mythtv-database configuration dialog prompts the user to enter the
password for the root mysql account. I'd say a good number of users get
rather confused here. The help button has an excellent explanation of
what the default password is. The help dialog should be removed and
this explanation should just be put on the main configuration page. I
think this would help a lot of people out.

For me firefox does not allow this; it always asks me to choose
application with text editor as default. Do you have something special

[Bug 69118] Re: knetworkmanager freezes if kwallet doesn't open immediately

2007-04-02 Thread Edu
A temporal workaround...
1. Disable knetworkmanager Autostart setting.
2. Create this script in ~/.kde/Autostart
-
#!/bin/sh
sleep 15
/usr/bin/knetworkmanager &
exit 0
-
Change the sleep value if you want and make it executable.

It is not very beatiful, but at least works..

2007-04-02 Thread Philip Ganchev
Attached is a crash "stacktrace" (report) generated using the second
method described on http://beagle-
project.org/Troubleshooting#Beagle_crashes_on_login . It ends with an
address boundary error.

Beagled crashes not only when I log in, but consistently every time I
start it. I just start it from the command line and watch it crash
after about 1 minute. Let me know if this is not a duplicate bug and I
should submit a separate report. My command shell is Fish (the Friendly
Interactive Shell). I am running Ubuntu Edgy Eft on an Intel 32-bit
processor.

@ Chris:
I am on kubuntu 6.10, I have downloaded also kubuntu beta live disk 7.04 but
still knetwork hangs at 28% on my Atheros AR5211. On kubuntu 6.06 it used to be
working flawless.

[Bug 99926] Undetectable wacom tablet in graphics apps

2007-04-02 Thread Hoisin23
Public bug reported:

Hi --

I recently installed Feisty Fawn on my system and am quite happy with
most of it, except for the fact that my Wacom Intuos USB tablet is
undetectable by Gimp, Inkscape, and any other graphics app. The error
reported back is:

No Extended Input Devices.

xorg.conf is configured properly and the stylus is moving the cursor
around. However, the device simply cannot be detected as a tablet in
any of the apps. Right now, it's functioning merely as a glorified
mouse. I did find a forum that addressed the problem on Edgy with a
solution that involved rebuilding and installing wacom.ko, but that's
not the most intuitive way for most users to work around this issue (I
believe this is a Kernel Module issue).

I'm hoping that when Feisy goes production-ready that these issues will
be fixed.

Thanks!

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-02 Thread Clay Weber
disabling ppdev didn't help in my case. On my canon LiDE25 9plustek, it
does let e get a preview scan (as it would on occasion let me) but the
scan head does not return all the way (also as would do when it would
actually scan) and on a second scan attempt, it would do the ususal.

What specific command can I run, and where do I look do get strace
results for comparison?

[Bug 99925] mythfrontend should use the eject command not myth's eject function

2007-04-02 Thread Timothy Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mythtv-frontend

Mythtv's frontend application uses a build in function eject to eject
the media drive. Unfortunetly it looks like there are lots of problems
with getting this to work if the system automounts. There are a few
different hacks that people have used to get the eject menu item to
work. Both involve editing the eject action in
/usr/share/mythtv/optical_menu.xml. Some users change the action to
EXEC umount /dev/dvd; eject, but most users seem to be changing this to
EXEC eject. The system's eject application seems to be a lot more
reliable than myth's. Using this line I was able to get the eject menu
to work. This is a big deal for those of use with htpc cases that don't
have buttons.

[Bug 99788] Re: [apport] wpa_supplicant crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-04-02 Thread yamal
The command line contains obvious errors: the -D (driver name) option
requires a parameter (typically "wext") which is missing. Additionally,
at the end there's an option "wlan0" that probably shouldn't be there.

How are you starting wpa_supplicant? Directly/manually or via some
network configuration program?

Does it crash also when you use other players? E.g. maybe the visual audio

[Bug 99932] libgtk2's library libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls undefined symbol gdk_font_from_description_for_display

2007-04-02 Thread Steven Van Acker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls a function called
gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is supposed to be in
libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0, but that function is deprecated according to GDK
documentation (http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gdk/gdk-
Fonts.html#id2638107)

Instead, libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 defines a function
Gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is in essence the same,
but with an uppercase first character.

I stumbled across this problem when trying to run a python program with
GTK bindings, and I think this is the easiest way to reproduce it too:

#!/usr/bin/env python
import egg.trayicon

if __name__ == "__main__":
print "hello world"

Running this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ ./test.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "./test.py", line 2, in ?
import egg.trayicon
ImportError: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
gdk_font_from_description_for_display
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$

I solved the problem by using LD_PRELOAD and just mapping the function
called in libgtk-x11 to the one defined in libgdk-x11. It would probably
be best to fix the package permanently though...

I run Ubuntu Edgy and upgraded all packages.
