[Ubuntu-BD] NTFS or FAT32

[নাসির খান]

আমার কাছে এতদিন NTFS উবুন্টুর জন্য ভালো মনে হইতো কিন্তু আজকে একজন আমাকে বললো
যে NTFS থেকেr FAT32 বেশী ভালো।

উবুন্টুর জন্য আসলো কোনটা ভালো?

JFS .. Journaling File System

NTFS = NT File System for Windows NT and compatible(Win NT 4.0 - Win 2k -
Win XP)
FAT32 is from Window 95 OSR2 Supported by all subsequent Versions of
Windows.

আর নাসির ভাইয়া তুমি কে কী বললো তাতে কান না দিয়ে উইকিপিডিয়াতে দেখে নাও।
নিজের কনফিডেন্সও বাড়বে।
ফ্যাট৩২ তে কোনো সিকিউরিটি নেই এনটিএফএস এ আছে।  আর এনটিএফএস ফাইল সিস্টেম
ক্র্যাশ করলে তা রিপেয়ার এর উপায় খুবই সীমিত, কারণ এটি অপেক্ষাকৃত জটিল।

ডেস্কটপের জন্য ext3 -ই সর্বোত্তম। jfs -এর ব্যবহারটা একটু ভিন্ন। এছাড়াও
অফিশিয়ালি ext3 ব্যবহৃত হয়, মানে অফিশিয়ালি সাপোর্টেড প্রায় সব
ডিস্ট্রিবিউশনের জন্য। জার্নালিং ext3 -তেই আছে। এর জন্য jfs ব্যবহারের
দরকার নাই।

যাইহোক, নাসির মনে হয় উইন্ডোজ পার্টিশনের কথা বলতে চাচ্ছে উবুন্তুতে
মাউন্ট করার জন্য। যদি তাই হয়, তবে fat বা ntfs -এর মধ্যে অবশ্যই ntfs
ভালো। কিছুদিন আগ পর্যন্ত এনটিএফএসের ড্রাইভার বেটা ছিল, তাই তখন ফ্যাট
দিয়ে শেয়ারিং-এর কাজ করা হতো। এখন আর এনটিএফএসের জন্য কোন সমস্যা নাই।
ফ্যাট বহু পুরনো আর বাতিল এফএস। পারলে এটা এখন ব্যবহার করা উচিত না।

আমার ব্যক্তিগত অভিমতও এনটিএফএসের সাথে।

টপিকের উপর না এটা লিনাক্সের পার্টিশন সিস্টেমের উপর লেখা দেখেছি। যদিও অনেক
পুরানো লেখা দেখতে পারেন :)

 ZFS is *REALLY* nice. With Disk pooling in a sort of JBOD manner and
   active management of data with fault tolerance, I could easily see ZFS, if
   it was released under GNU for integration into Linux, as the future and
   primary FS type. Much like ext2 was the defacto standard for quite a few
   years.

   I also give praise to ext3, which has always proven reliable in terms of
   data recovery, but not necessarily in uptime. I have yet to be exposed to
   ext4 but I've heard nothing but great things about that one as well.

 Hey Lari,

   Which ... errr ... and modern ... double-err 

   It frankly depends on what I'm doing. I tend to have a slight preference
   for xfs if I have to deal with large files (xfs with a good tuning is a real
   killer! But better be sure of your hardware!), or reiserfs for fs with lots
   of small files scattered in zillions of directories.

   I do enjoy ext3 as a all-purpose fs. But it needs a fair amount of tuning
   before being a real challenger.

   My preferences are, in decreasing order: xfs, reiserfs, ext3.

   That's when it comes to linux. On BSD, I find UFS+ quite cool.

 ReiserFS is a dead end. It always had issues, and its cool factor was
   misplaced — the ultimate vision for it was due to a misunderstanding of data
   concepts by its author, who by the way is now incarcerated and thus won't be
   able to continue his work.

   ext3 is mature and has the tools. ext4 impoves on it, so for a hobby
   system is an interesting proposition.

 I'm mostly a linux guy.
   That's why the number-one, all-purpose fs for me is IBM's jfs. It is rock
   solid (well, not in it's infancy times, before maybe 4-5 yrs ago), and
   performs equally well on large storage areas and on desktop machines. It IS
   fast, which should also be taken into account.
   After that, of course, comes ext3. This is currently the choise for any
   system, which needs to go the 'it just has to work' way.
   And... I've heard quite a lot of good opinions for zfs, but have never
   tested it personally.

 ReiserFS is a dead technology, heck the author is in jail for killing
   his wife, and is very unstable over a certain size and is a bear to
   recovery. I would NEVER and advocate directly against using ReiserFS for any
   production support.

Its a matter of usage scenario and in many cases personal choice.
While ext file systems are the most used ones, there are a huge number
of file systems with their own following.

For the case of  FAT32 and NTFS, one needs to consider the stability
of the file system driver.

FAT32 driver implementation has been around for long and considered
quite stable. NTFS driver implementation is comparatively new but
considered stable/usable too.

In technical merits of a file system, NTFS is a lot better file system
than FAT32. But in terms of driver implementation for Linux, people
tend to prefer FAT32 for its reputation of being around for long and
stable (thus tested and stood trial of time).

Rome, act like a Roman"। লিনাক্সে ব্যবহারের জন্য ext3 অথবা JFS।

কথার সাথে একমত নই :P
মাইক্রোসফট পয়সা খরচ করে উইন্ডোজের মতো অনিরাপদ অপারেটিং সিস্টেম বানাচ্ছে

আর রোমে গেলে রোমানদের মতো থাকার কথা বহু আগে অচল। কারণ এখন রোমানদের সেই চল
নেই :)
ext3 বা JFS ব্যবহার করা হলে উইন্ডোজ থেকে তো আর সেই ফাইল সিস্টেম নিরাপদে
ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। (যদিও কিছু সফটওয়্যার/ড্রাইভার লিনাক্স পার্টিশন উইন্ডোজে
দেখাতে পারে)

সেজন্য যারা ডুয়েলবুট করছেন তারা ntfs বা fat32 রাখার কথা চিন্তা করতেই পারে।
