[UAI] [journals] CFP: Soft Machines: Integrating Sensing, Actuation and Computation published in /Robotics/
Dear Colleagues, Robotics is currently running a Special Issue entitled "Soft Machines: Integrating Sensing, Actuation and Computation". Dr. Sina Naficy, Dr. Michael P.M. Dicker and Prof. Jonathan M. Rossiter are serving as Guest Editors for this issue. We think you could make an excellent contribution based on your expertise. Soft machines based on well-integrated sensors and actuators can autonomously change their physical properties and interact with their surroundings in an organic manner. Such machines hold a great potential for biomedical devices, artificial limbs, and cooperative human assistance. Realising this vision requires novel soft, smart hybrid systems capable of sensing, computing, and actuation at micron-scale. Tightly integrating actuation, sensing, and computation into one single system can extend the functionality of traditional smart materials to truly programmable soft machines. This goal can be achieved by: 1) integrating sensing, actuation, and computation through novel smart materials, 2) adapting new fabrication techniques capable of creating hybrid, hierarchical structures For further reading, please follow the link to the Special Issue website at: http://www.mdpi.com/journal/robotics/special_issues/soft-machines. [UAI] [journals] CFP: Special Issue on "Space Robotics" - extended submission deadline 15 December 2018
Dear Colleagues, Robotics is currently running a Special Issue entitled "Space Robotics". Prof. Dr. Alex Ellery, from Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University, is serving as Guest Editor for this issue. We would like to invite you to prepare a research article or a comprehensive review to be published in this special issue. Space robotics has evolved from a mere addendum to the space exploration programme to a fully-fledged strategic capability that leverages the entire programme. Examples of the traditional concerns of space robotics include on-orbit servicing using spacecraft-mounted manipulators, terramechanics and autonomous navigation for planetary rovers and robotic drilling mechanisms. More recently, autonomous science for rovers has emerged as a capability for rovers to complement navigational autonomy in rovers. Biomimetics also has a role to play in space robotics such as in automated camera control for example. Some traditional areas have evolved - on-orbit servicing capabilities are being applied to space debris mitigation with new approaches such as harpooning and netting. Recent interest in in-situ resource utilisation (ISRU) specifically requires extensive robotics capabilities ranging from asteroid and lunar mining, 3D printing (essentially Cartesian robotics) and even self-replicating machines to leverage local resources to reduce the costs of space exploration and for supporting lunar or Martian bases... For further reading, please follow the link to the Special Issue Website at: http://www.mdpi.com/journal/robotics/special_issues/SP. The submission deadline has extended to 15 December 2018. You may send your manuscript now or up until the deadline. Submitted papers should not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. We also encourage authors to send a short abstract or tentative title to the Editorial Office in advance (robot...@mdpi.com). From Volume 6, all published papers will be added in Scopus. The journal is also indexed in Web of Science (Thomson Reuters), as part of the ESCI database. Robotics is fully open access. Open access (unlimited and free access by readers) increases publicity and promotes more frequent citations, as indicated by several studies. Open access is supported by the authors and their institutes. An Article Processing Charge (APC) of CHF 350 currently applies to all accepted papers. [UAI] [journals] CFP: Special Issue on "Collaborative Mechatronics Systems"
Dear Colleagues, Robotics is currently running a Special Issue entitled "Collaborative Mechatronics Systems". Prof. Dr. Wenjun (Chris) Zhang, from University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Yingzi Lin, from Northeastern University, are serving as Guest Editors for this issue. We are pleased to invite you to submit your papers to this Special Issue of Robotics, "Collaborative Mechatronics Systems". Mechatronics systems are multi-disciplinary systems, and their operation principles involve interactions of different principles in different scientific domains, typically electric and mechanical domains. To mechatronic systems that operate together with humans, human factors become extremely important in terms of the ultimate task performance and the safety of human operators. Mechatronic systems in this context are called collaborative mechatronic systems. The key issues with collaborative mechatronic systems are communication and cooperation with human operators. More specifically, they are about how a mechatronic system knows a human operator’s physical and mind state and how a mechatronic system operates with a human operator to accomplish their common goal while guaranteeing a high degree of safety and health to the human operator.
