[UAI] ISIPTA 2023: Call for posters (deadline 1 May)

2023-04-03 Thread Enrique Miranda

*Apologies if you receive multiple announcements*

***

The Thirteenth International Symposium on Imprecise Probability:
Theories and Applications (ISIPTA 2023) Oviedo, 11-14 July, 2023.

In our call for papers we stated that there is

“Uncertainty modelling beyond probability”

and tried to convince you that ISIPTA 2023 is a good place for
discussing such matters. The paper submission deadline has passed, but
rest assured, you can still present your work at ISIPTA, because poster
abstract submission is open. These poster abstracts are intended for
discussing preliminary results and open questions, or for bringing
published results to the attention of the ISIPTA audience.

Each accepted poster abstract will be announced in a short plenary
spotlight presentation, and the accompanying poster will be presented at
length during one of the discussion sessions. Given the prominent role
of poster presentations at ISIPTA, these sessions provide you with a
genuine opportunity for presenting your work to the ISIPTA audience.

The deadline for poster submission is May 1. You can submit at any time
before that, though, and we will provide you with a decision within two
weeks.

Not convinced yet? Then perhaps the following features can persuade you.

Basic info:ISIPTA 2023 will take place in hotel ACForum in Oviedo, from
July 11 to July 14, 2023. Additional information is available on our
website: https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fisipta23.sipta.org%2F&data=05%7C01%7Cuai%40engr.orst.edu%7C4028e64049a74d99855308db34586923%7Cce6d05e13c5e4d6287a84c4a2713c113%7C0%7C0%7C638161326546529536%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=lQFj8D5lSdKq3smvHxNiUYBidGKXN5eGXFXspNGrR7s%3D&reserved=0

Scope:The ISIPTA conferences are devoted to robustness and imprecision
in uncertainty modelling, inference and decision making, focusing in
particular on uncertainty frameworks that extend or replace the
probabilistic one.

Invited speakers:ISIPTA 2023 will feature keynote talks by Gert de
Cooman (Ghent University, Belgium), Marta Kwiatkowska (University of
Oxford, United Kingdom) and Michel Grabisch (Université Paris I-
Panthéon Sorbonne). In addition, a homage to the late Professor Terrence
Fine will take place.

Concept: Each accepted contribution is presented anddiscussed, in two
separate sessions. Presentations are short and always plenary. Detailed
explanations and discussions will take place in a poster session.

Registration: Registration is open. The deadline for early registration
is May 20, while the extended registration deadline is June 15. The
early registration fees are 450 for regular, 250 for students and 150
for accompanying people.

Atmosphere: ISIPTA conferences are characterised by a friendly and
cooperative style, a strong emphasis on in-depth discussion and openness
to new ideas. We hope that you too will enjoy and contribute to this
unique atmosphere.

Awards:ISIPTA 2023 will hand out an IJAR Young Researcher Award (for
excellent research in the area of imprecise probabilities) and several
poster awards.

The IJAR award is sponsored by the International Journal of Approximate
Reasoning. The deadline for applying for the IJAR Young Researcher Award
is May 20; the rules for application are available on our website.

Anyone who presents a poster (either for a paper or poster abstract) is
eligible for the poster prizes.

In addition, Artificial Intelligence Journal is sponsoring 4 fellowships
of 750 euros for PhD or master students.

We look forward to receiving your contribution.

13 Feb - Review-ready papers due
31 Mar - Conference hotel pre-reservation deadline
08 Apr - Paper notification
17 Apr - Poster-only abstracts due
06 May - Poster-only notification
29 May - Early-bird registration deadline (€350 full; €200 student)

*Scope & Symposium Format*

ISIPTA is the primary international forum to present and discuss new
results related to imprecise probability.

We welcome both theoretical and applied original contributions. In this
edition, we especially welcome papers connecting imprecise probabilities
with related research in fields such as economics, philosophy,
sociology, and engineering. There will be no parallel sessions. Each
paper that is accepted is presented both
(i) in a plenary session, meant for a short introduction and a
sketch of the context and relevance; and
(ii) in a poster session, where ample time is given for in-depth
explanation and discussion.

The poster-only track provides a second, free format presentation
option. It is also open for preliminary results, challenges, etc.

*New: non-proceedings papers*

To adapt to different publication cultures in different fields, we
introduce a new option: the non-proceeding papers. Authors may request
that their contribution is not published in the proceedings in case this
precludes later publication of an expanded journal version. The PC Board
will decide on a case-by-case basis. If accepted, a one-page abstract
will be published in the proceedings, and the paper must be freely
available on-line (e.g., as a working paper).

*Invited Speakers*

Massimo Marinacci, AXA-Bocconi Chair in Risk
Department of Decision Sciences, Bocconi University, Milan, Italy

Itzhak Gilboa, Professor of Economics and Decision Sciences

[UAI] 8th SIPTA school on imprecise probabilities: first announcement

2017-11-21 Thread Enrique Miranda

8th SIPTA School on Imprecise Probabilities

http://bellman.ciencias.uniovi.es/~ssipta18

Imprecise Probabilities

Often, uncertainty is modelled by a probability distribution, and
treated using techniques from probability theory. However, when
information is scarce, vague, or conflicting, a unique probability
distribution may be hard to identify. In that case, imprecise
probability aims to represent the really available knowledge, and
provides tools to model and work with weaker states of information. It
includes both qualitative models (comparative probability, partial
preference orderings, etc.) and quantitative models (interval-valued
probabilities, convex sets of probability measures, upper and lower
previsions, belief functions, possibility measures, etc.).

8th SIPTA Summer School

The 8th SIPTA Summer School will take place in Oviedo (Spain) from 24 to
28 of July, 2018. It will introduce both the main theoretical aspects of
imprecise probability models and in particular belief functions, as well
as their applications on machine learning, decision making and
engineering. Leading specialists in these different aspects of imprecise
probabilities will lecture on the main concepts and techniques
associated to their area of expertise, in a friendly environment
favouring interaction between participants.

Topics and lecturers

-Introduction to imprecise probabilities (Inés Couso, Enrique Miranda).
-Graphical models and machine learning (Cassio de Campos).
-Decision making with imprecise probabilities (Matthias Troffaes).

[UAI] 2nd SIPTA School on Imprecise Probabilities

2005-11-06 Thread enrique . miranda
(Apologies for multiple postings)

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

2nd SIPTA SCHOOL ON IMPRECISE PROBABILITIES

Madrid, July 24-28, 2006

http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta

Imprecise probability is a generic term for the many mathematical or statistical
models which measure chance or uncertainty without sharp numerical
probabilities. These models include belief functions, Choquet capacities,
comparative probability orderings, convex sets of probability measures, fuzzy
measures, interval-valued probabilities, possibility measures, plausibility
measures, and upper and lower expectations or previsions. Imprecise probability
models are needed in inference problems where the relevant information is
scarce, vague or conflicting and in decision problems where preferences may
also be incomplete.

The school is intended as a wide and deep introduction to imprecise probability
topics, both theoretical and applied. Specifically, the school will focus on
coherent lower previsions and their behavioural interpretation, non-additive
measures and applications to decision theory, the imprecise Dirichlet model,
predictive inference with imprecise probabilities, and knowledge discovery from
data sets under weak assumptions. It will be an aim of the school to connect the
mentioned topics into an overall picture within the framework of imprecise
probabilities.

The Second SIPTA School on Imprecise Probabilities will take place in the
Headquarters of the Rey Juan Carlos University Foundation, in Madrid (Spain),
on July 24-28, 2006. It is an event organized by the International Society for
Imprecise Probability: Theories and Applications (SIPTA) and by the Group of
Statistics and Decision Sciences (GECD) from Rey Juan Carlos University.

You can find all the relevant information on
http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta

Schedule and topics

Each of the five days of the summer school will be devoted to a different topic,
and the time will be divided equally between theory and exercises/applications.
The topics covered will be:

•The Imprecise Dirichlet Model (Jean-Marc Bernard, Université Paris V).
•Predictive inference with imprecise probabilities (Gert de Cooman, Ghent
University).
•Non-additive measures and applications on decision theory (Jean-Yves Jaffray,
Université Paris VI).
•Coherent lower previsions and their behavioural interpretation (Enrique
Miranda, Rey Juan Carlos University).
•Knowledge discovery from data sets under weak assumptions: the case of prior
ignorance and incomplete data (Marco Zaffalon, IDSIA).

Registration

If you would like to attend the school on Imprecise Probabilities, please fill
in the pre-registration form on http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta no
later than March 31, 2006, enclosing a short CV (no longer than 2 pages).
Notification on acceptance will be made on April 15, 2006.

[UAI] CFP: Special Issue on random sets and imprecise probabilities

2005-11-20 Thread enrique . miranda
CALL FOR PAPERS

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF APPROXIMATE REASONING

Special Issue on

RANDOM SETS AND IMPRECISE PROBABILITIES

Random sets, or measurable multi-valued mappings, constitute a powerful
generalisation of random variables with applications on areas as diverse as
economics, data mining or environmental sciences. On the other hand, imprecise
probability models have arisen in the last years as a powerful alternative to
classical probability for situations when imprecision or vagueness prevents the
use of a precise and unique probability distribution with certain guarantees.

This special issue is meant to cover the several connections existing between
random sets and imprecise probabilities. Foundational issues on this topic
include, but are not limited to, upper and lower probabilities (capacities)
induced by random sets, sets of measurable selections, upper and lower
integrals of random sets and coarse data analysis. Applications of random sets
and imprecise probabilities in Computer Science, Economics, Social Sciences or
Information Technology, are also welcome.

Authors should submit their papers electronically to both special issue editors.
The papers must contain original unpublished work that is not being submitted
for publication elsewhere. Due to limitations of space, only papers with less
than 20 pages will be considered. Manuscripts submitted to this special issue
should follow the format guidelines that can be found at
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/ijar, and will be refereed according to the
standard procedures for International Journal of Approximate Reasoning.

The DEADLINE for submissions is May 15, 2006.

The issue is expected to be ready by early 2007. Electronic submission is
required. Please e-mail a postscript or pdf file of your manuscript to both
special issue editors:

[UAI] 2nd announcement: SIPTA School on Imprecise Probabilities

2006-03-03 Thread Enrique Miranda
*SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

*

*2^nd **SIPTA SCHOOL** **ON** IMPRECISE PROBABILITIES*

* *
*Madrid**, **July 24-28, 2006***

*
http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta*

Imprecise probability is a generic term for the many mathematical or
statistical models which measure chance or uncertainty without sharp
numerical probabilities. These models include belief functions, Choquet
capacities, comparative probability orderings, convex sets of
probability measures, fuzzy measures, interval-valued probabilities,
possibility measures, plausibility measures, and upper and lower
expectations or previsions. Imprecise probability models are needed in
inference problems where the relevant information is scarce, vague or
conflicting and in decision problems where preferences may also be
incomplete.

The school is intended as a wide and deep introduction to imprecise
probability topics, both theoretical and applied. Specifically, the
school will focus on coherent lower previsions and their behavioural
interpretation, non-additive measures and applications to decision
theory, the imprecise Dirichlet model, predictive inference with
imprecise probabilities, and knowledge discovery from data sets under
weak assumptions. It will be an aim of the school to connect the
mentioned topics into an overall picture within the framework of
imprecise probabilities.

The Second SIPTA School on Imprecise Probabilities will take place in
the Headquarters of the Rey Juan Carlos University Foundation, in Madrid
(Spain), on July 24-28, 2006. It is an event organized by the
International Society for Imprecise Probability: Theories and
Applications (SIPTA <http://www.sipta.org/>) and by the Group of
Statistics and Decision Sciences (GECD <http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/>)
from Rey Juan Carlos University. It is a Satellite Conference from the
International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM’2006).

You can find all the relevant information on
http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta
<http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/%7Eemiranda/sipta>

*Schedule and topics*

Each of the five days of the summer school will be devoted to a
different topic, and the time will be divided equally between theory and
exercises/applications. The topics covered will be:

* The Imprecise Dirichlet Model (/Jean-Marc Bernard, Université
  Paris V/).
* Predictive inference with imprecise probabilities (/Gert de
  Cooman, //Ghent// //University/).
* Non-additive measures and applications on decision theory
  (/Jean-Yves Jaffray, Université Paris VI/).
* Coherent lower previsions and their behavioural interpretation
  (/Enrique Miranda, //Rey// //Juan// //Carlos// //University// and
  Matthias Troffaes, Carnegie Mellon University/).
* Knowledge discovery from data sets under weak assumptions: the
case of prior ignorance and incomplete data (/Marco Zaffalon//,
  IDSIA/).

*Registration*

If you would like to attend the school on Imprecise Probabilities,
please fill in the pre-registration form on
http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/~emiranda/sipta
<http://bayes.escet.urjc.es/%7Eemiranda/sipta> no later than March 31,

[UAI] call for papers: SIPTA session on imprecise probabilities at IPMU'2010

2009-11-27 Thread Enrique Miranda

---
CALL FOR PAPERS
SIPTA session on imprecise probabilities
Special Session to be held as part of
IPMU-2010, 13-th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INFORMATION
PROCESSING AND MANAGEMENT OF UNCERTAINTY IN KNOWLEDGEBASED
SYSTEMS
June 28-July 2, 2010 – Dortmund, Germany
---

Imprecise probability is understood in a very wide sense. It is used as
a generic term to cover all mathematical models which measure chance or
uncertainty without sharp numerical probabilities. It includes both
qualitative (comparative probability, partial preference orderings, …)
and quantitative modes (interval probabilities, belief functions, upper
and lower previsions, …). Imprecise probability models are needed in
inference problems where the relevant information is scarce, vague or
conflicting, and in decision problems where preferences may also be
incomplete.

The special session is open to contributions on all aspects of imprecise
probability. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

-models of coherent imprecise assessments

-sets of probability measures, credal sets

- interval-valued probabilities

- non-additive set functions

- qualitative reasoning about uncertainty

- limit laws for imprecise probabilities

- physical models of imprecise probability

- philosophical foundations for imprecise probabilities

- elicitation techniques for imprecise probabilities

- robust statistics

- data mining with imprecise probabilities

- decision making with imprecise probabilities

- algorithms for manipulating imprecise probabilities

- credal classification

- applications.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
To prepare a submission, please follow the same instructions as for the
main conference (see

http://www.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/~ipmu2010/instructions.html).

Special session papers will be handled in the same way as regular
papers. In particular, they will be peer-reviewed by the conference
program committee on the basis of the same criteria. When submitting the
paper through the conference management system, authors are asked to
indicate that their contribution is suitable to this special session
related to Belief function theory and knowledge management.

08 Apr - Paper notification
17 Apr - Poster-only abstracts due
06 May - Poster-only notification
29 May - Early-bird registration deadline (€350 full; €200 student)

*Scope & Symposium Format*

ISIPTA is the primary international forum to present and discuss new results
related to imprecise probability.

We welcome both theoretical and applied original contributions. In this
edition, we especially welcome papers connecting imprecise probabilities with
related research in fields such as economics, philosophy, sociology, and
engineering. There will be no parallel sessions. Each paper that is accepted is
presented both
(i) in a plenary session, meant for a short introduction and a sketch of
the context and relevance; and
(ii) in a poster session, where ample time is given for in-depth
explanation and discussion.

The poster-only track provides a second, free format presentation option. It is
also open for preliminary results, challenges, etc.

*New: non-proceedings papers*

To adapt to different publication cultures in different fields, we introduce a
new option: the non-proceeding papers. Authors may request that their
contribution is not published in the proceedings in case this precludes later
publication of an expanded journal version. The PC Board will decide on a
case-by-case basis. If accepted, a one-page abstract will be published in the
proceedings, and the paper must be freely available on-line (e.g., as a working
paper).

[UAI] special session on imprecise probabilities at smps'2016

2015-11-03 Thread ENRIQUE MIRANDA MENENDEZ
Call for contributions

Special session on Imprecise Probabilities

to be held at the

8th International Conference in Soft Methods in Probability and Statistics
(SMPS'2016)

Rome (Italy), September 12-14, 2016.

Session topic and goal

This session concerns imprecise probability in the wide sense. It is used as a
generic term for uncertainty models, both qualitative and quantitative not
using sharp numerical probabilities (comparative probabilities, belief
functions, possibilities, lower previsions, etc.).

Such models address inference problems where the relevant information is
scarce, vague or conflicting, and decision problems where preferences may be
incomplete.

We would like to attract papers that discusses and solve foundational
questions, or clearly demonstrate the usefulness of imprecise probabilistic
models in a particular application. We would particularly welcome papers going
from theoretical advances to the solution of an associated applied problem.

In case you are interested in taking part of this session, we would be obliged
if you could reply saying so to by December 1, 2015.

Submissions between 5-8 pages should be done via easychair at

https://easychair.org/

by February 15, 2016, and will undergo the usual revision process.
