music sound editer
Hello to everyone my name is keith and I would like to know if there is a music sound editer that is screenreader friendly. I've just bought a Korg x50 keyboard that I want to do some sound editing on but the software that came with it is not screenreader friendly. I use Jaws for windows version 10, HELP!!! OK, thanks to both of you I will check into those sudjestions - Original Message - From: "Christopher Wright" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Monday, March 30, 2009 6:55 PM Subject: Re: music sound editer If you choose to use Sonar, there's also a free set of Jaws scripts called JSonar. You can go to www.jsonar.org to read about it and download it. Since you'll be learning Sonar for the first time, I recommend the CakeTalking package from Dancing Dots. That comes with plenty of documentation. - Original Message - From: "Ray" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Monday, March 30, 2009 6:19 PM Subject: Re: music sound editer Hello Kieth. Haven't time to give links, but there is quite a choice of sound editors that work with screen readers generally including JFW. Paid for stereo editors include: Sony: Sound Forge, Sound Studio Goldwave Studio Recorder from A P H. - this doesn't need scripts or anything as it is designed from the ground up to be accessible. Can be used for music, but is primarily meant for speech editing. Audacity, which is freeware or open source software. Believe there are JFW scripts for this one. It is a multi-track editor but can of course be used for stereo editing. In the multi-track field there is Sonar or Cakewalk which it developped from I believe. tthis is a combined audio and midi editor and very much aimed at musicians. Think the scripts here come from Dancing Dots. Finally, their is Adobe Audition, but how well this works with JFW I simply don't know. this was known as Cool Edit until Adobe acquired it, since when it has gone through a few inaccessible versions, but I hear things are beginning to be put right re. post version 3. So, hope all that helps and a bit of Googling will turn up the info you need. keith wrote: Hello to everyone my name is keith and I would like to know if there is a music sound editer that is screenreader friendly. I have a korg x50 keyboard that I record all my music with in cakewalk sonar, not sure if i can use that as a midi keyboard controlor in melone if so how do i do this? Also the functions like the pitch monglate and other controls i want to use are not easy for me to find on the screen. for example if i want to use the pitch monglation tool to flatting the peaks to give my voice the robot sound. Thank you for your responce and I'm going to try to see i can link my x50 to Melondone and do that trick you shared earlyer. Thank you for that info. Re: two second gap
Go to your list of tracks that you just put into nero and go to each track one after another and click on the properties for each file and there is a option that you can change to cause the cd to continue to the next track without that 2 second pause. when you click on that property that I spoke of earlyer you will see a option that says something like pause and the number 2. Change the 2 to 0 wich is saying that you don't want any pauses in between that track and the next track. Hope that this helps a little maybe someone else can explain this better than me. Yes, there is no doubt that the Nokia and Lg phoens have TTS in them but that is mainly for "voice prompting" etc but its at least a start and positive comment to the manufacturers could result in something bigger. Of course we all long for the "perfect device" but until we get such a device then we have to "live and let live", adapt where possible and use what we have at our disposal, in the meantime positive comment never did anyone any harm. The other issue is, who's going to pay for all the extra development costs needed for accessability products? I don't know whether the investors in Nokia would be too happy about that just quietly. The other solution of course is to design a product from the ground up with accessability in mind, Nokia never have and I doubt ever will do that, again it comes down to cost. There have been mobile phones built for accessability, can't remember their names now but I'm sure other people will put me on the right track and of course, there are devices round such as the Icon. Now that said, we come back to the same problem, these devices do cost. Hi, Are you sure windows didn't sneak in an update to WMP 11? That's all I can think of for now...KG - Original Message - From: "Robbie Miller" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC-Audio" Sent: Thursday, July 26, 2007 7:28 AM Subject: Nero format problem Hello Listers, I started burning mp3 files to my hard drive with nero 5.5 and the nero mp3 pro plug in in 2003. I also downloaded and installed the Nero plug_in for Windows Media Player 9x, and installed the Cyberlink mp3 encoder as well. I upgraded to Nero 6, then Nero 6.6 ultra, still no problembs using the Extras/Save Tracks or the Extras/Encode Files menu options in Nero Burning Rom 5.5, 6.0, or 6.6 Ultra to burn music CDS in mp3 format to my hard drive. As a matter of fact, I copied so many music CDs to my 2.2 GHZ, 40 GB, Windows XP pro, SP2 Gateway Laptop, that I ran out of disk space. I replaced the 40 Gb hard drive with a 120 GB harddrive last weekend. I reinstalled Nero Burning Rom 6.6 ultra along with the nero mp3 pro plug in, reinstalled the Nero plug_in for Windows Media Player 9x, and the Cyberlink mp3 encoder. Now when I go to Extras/Save Tracks, the settings button is disabled, and Nero saves all files in .AC3 format, and I can't change the format. I uninstalled Nero 6.6 Ultra and reinstalled it, but it did no good. I even went to the Nero site, bought Nero 7 ultra and installed it, but the settings button in Extras/Save Tracks is still disabled, and its stuck on .AC3 format, and I can't change it. In Nero7 Ultra, I even went to the Options/Audio dialog and tried to change the format, but it won't take there either. If anyone can help me with this problem I would be most grateful. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. Thanks for any help with this problem. I got him to add a level control that allows me to set the line in for the two RCA sockets, and he also added small buttons for setting the frequency. So if you're looking for an FM transmitter, this one is definitely worth a look, but it is on the high end of the price range. You definitely get what you pay for though. Sounds good. Not to start a war here but TR also allows you to record in the back GROUND WITHOUT INTERFERING WITH SCREEN READERS...Keith - Original Message - From: "Chris Skarstad" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. " Sent: Saturday, August 04, 2007 1:51 PM Subject: Re: scheduled recording from the internet Hello Bryan You absolutely can not go wrong with Replay A/V from http://www.replayav.com The wonderful thing about it is that it can record a program, and it captures the stream without taking over your sound card. So it records in the background, and you can continue to surf the net or use your screenreader, without having to worry that your screenreader will interrupt the recording. The other wonderful thing about Replay A/V is a tool it has called the URL finder. If you want to record something, but don't know the address, all you need to do is to start the URL finder, play the audio you want to record for a minute or so, and if things go right, the URL finder will get the address, and you can then schedule it as a new show and record it right then if it's an archive, or if it's a live show at a scheduled time, Replay A/V will record it for you. The program requires no scripts or set files for its use, however if you use Window-eyes, you may experience a bit of difficulty with the guide you can use to find and schedule shows. It will record mp3, real audio and Windows media streams, and the included replay converter will allow you to convert any recording to any other format you choose. So if your stream is a windows Media one and you want to save it as an mp3, Replay A/V will capture the stream for you, and then afterwords, convert it to mp3 so you can listen to it whenever it's convenient for you. To me this is a much better sollution because no extra sound card drivers can get in the way, and that's the case, it's much easier and less intrusive. I hope this helps. Re: [blindreplay] Freecorder 2 & Freecorder Toolbar Scripts Wanted
I totally agree with your points here and I would like to ad that third party apps and tool bars in general are wonderful sources or, resources dependant on your perspective, of add and/or spy ware. - Original Message - From: "Kelly Pierce" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; Cc: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 10:23 PM Subject: Re: [blindreplay] Freecorder 2 & Freecorder Toolbar Scripts Wanted Petro, You seem to be highly comfortable with the response that Applian uses third-party contractors for various components of its software business and therefore has no responsibility to its customers for the performance of these components, which in our case is the accessibility of Applian software. In the past decade and a half, the blind community and disability community as a whole have totally and completely rejected this buck passing. First the major software companies, including Microsoft, Real Networks, and Adobe have been expected from the get go to provide full access to their software, regardless of how it was developed. next, folks engaged the country's largest financial institutions to create access to banking services. The banks worked with vendors, contractors and service providers to deliver talking ATM's for the blind and accessible websites. These efforts led to the first legally binding settlement agreements that committed to web accessibility for people with disabilities. The bank projects were followed by initiatives on cell phone accessibility. the issue was that the wireless service providers passed the buck to the handset manufacturers. yet, the manufacturing companies said that they designed phones with significant input from the providers who would largely market and sell the phones. The arrangement was hardly that of an impartial, arms-length party just purchasing goods in the marketplace, passing the hot potato of access back to the wireless providers. The efforts led to a 2004 agreement by Audio and Verizon Communications to design, manufacture, market and sell a cell phone accessible to the blind with audio-enabled controls. similarly, people with disabilities expected accessibility of voting machines in the United States during the last election cycle during the 2006 elections. Software and control devices for some machines were developed or designed at some of the voting machine companies by foreign subsidiaries or third party vendors. Local election officials facilitated relationships with the various parties to obtain and significantly improve access, allowing voters with certain kinds of disabilities to vote independently for the first time. I realize that the large companies often have complex and many-layered relationships with their vendors and contractors. A vendor may develop or provide access to a product or service to prevent the institution from developing a relationship with another vendor who can provide access and possibly a whole lot more. The large companies can leverage these relationships to obtain consideration from vendors that smaller companies can't. all of this being said, it is highly disappointing that we seem to accept wholesale Applian's response regarding access issues with their products. They don't explain why access issues could not have been written into the contracts or agreements they have with their vendors. It is not clear if the company raised these issues in a meaningful manner early on in the relationship with the third party vendor or if it was an afterthought once the work was completed. In various areas of technology access for more than a decade, people with disabilities have worked with companies to achieve greater independence in their lives through technology. the third-party contractor argument has not been accepted by disability leaders who have worked on access in various sectors in the technology industry. In a similar way it has also been rejected by the mainstream as well. Wednesday's Wall Street Journal ran a lengthy page one investigation of how the largest retailers and apparel makers in the United States are responsible for incredible pollution in China for demanding ever lower prices, leading contractors to pollute the environment to save money. there was no suggestion that gap, Target, Nike, and the like had no responsibility because they used a third party vendor. Applian's shoulder shrugging and subsequent finger pointing to a third-party vender isn't a constructive response to developing accessible solutions. it is unclear why the company cannot incorporate accessible design into their relationships with these vendors or if they have even asked about it at the start of their relationship. I don't believe at this time why our expectations for access should be relaxed at this time when other organizations have been able to develop systems and approaches around these same issues. the end result has been access that we all now use and

Re: problem with sound taxi
Hi Brian, I have not noted this error in particular however, I have had problems converting DRM files into .wav format. The process will take the usual several hours or so but in the end the wav file will not play or allow for conversion into MP3 format. I don't seem to have this issue if I go straight to MP3. Have you opened your book in windows Media player prior to conversion? Sometimes the imbedded marks in audible files can cause havoc with the conversion process. I like to open them in WMP, start the book, then stop the book to reset the file. There are updated versions of sound taxi which claim to batch process more then two files at once, and claim to convert up to 40x. I contacted the vender in the Ukraine but was advised that there is no update policy. In other words, you would need to pay full price for the latest version. Good luck and let us know if you actually find a fix. hth...Keith - Original Message - From: "Brian Hartgen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2007 4:27 AM Subject: problem with sound taxi Hi I have a problem with sound taxi and I wonder if anyone has experienced this. When converting an Audible book, the conversion progresses relatively quick as I would expect. However, when the progress indicator reaches 100 per cent, it takes at least an hour to show that the file is converted, it could be much more than that time. Sound taxi leaves at least an hour of blank space at the end of the converted book as well and I suspect this is what it is doing when the progress indicator reaches 100 per cent and stays visible. If anyone has any suggestions I would like to hear about them please. I wonder how often the software is updated, or how you can tell if you have the latest release? Thanks. Sure. The quality of the TTS is OK but not near Elequents in my opinion. The unit is about the width of a deck of cards. The unit is slightly longer then a deck of cards. In addition to the variety of audio formats (MP3, DAISY, and NISO books and music) supported by Victor Reader Stream, the Audible format will provide a huge additional choice of content to the users. Audible is the leading provider of spoken audio on the internet, providing over 140,000 hours of digital audio editions of books, newspapers and magazines. The Stream has extensive navigation features for moving through audio books and text files, including functions that allow you to move to the next chapter, section or page, or to set bookmarks. For Audible books, the user will be able to navigate from one Audible heading to the next, move by increments of one-, five-, or ten-minute time jumps, and move with an accelerated fast forward feature that announces the amount of time lapsed. Blind and low-vision people who listen to talking books on a regular basis often prefer to speed up the playback. For all audio book formats that Stream plays, including Audible, variable speed control with digital pitch correction allows the reader to accurately listen at higher than normal playback speed. The player is completely accessible by blind and low-vision users. All keys and messages are provided through audio feedback. The player has a built-in User Guide and a Key Describer mode to remind the user of keypad functions. It comes with integrated text-to-speech voice, allowing it to play text-only files and announce the track names of music files. It uses an SD memory card to store books and music transferred from a computer. "We are very happy to bring the advanced navigation features of Stream to the Audible listener experience", says Gerry Chevalier, HumanWare Victor Reader Product Manager. "I know of no other Audible-ready player that offers accessibility, variable speed playback, and advanced navigation, all in one package." "We are very much aware of the value and popularity of Audible books for the blind and visually impaired", says Will Lopes, Vice President for Business Development at Audible. "We are pleased to work with HumanWare to bring the benefits of the accessible Victor Reader Stream player to Audible listeners". Victor Reader Stream can be purchased online at www.humanware.com (in USA). Naturally this behavior to anyone (particularly to a Mac user where crashes are few and far between) is totally unacceptable so back onto the machine went VLC media Player, it was listening to both that I make the following observations. Firstly, VLC does a far better job ad decoding media such as MP3 etc, you can hear the differences quite distinctly. Controls are similar to those presented in Winamp and in a lot of ways, VLC is easier to use with a screen reader, not as cluttered as Winamp seems to be. I've been using VLC on the Mac for ages but haven't had too much experience with it on the PC, the command set is slightly different but that's probably due mainly to differences in the keyboard layout between Mac and Trashbox Windows PC. For example, you go to previous and next tracks in VLC under the Mac using command-left and command-right arrow respectively, on the PC version you use P and N on the keyboard If anyone would like to give this excellent little media player a try then use your friend Google and look for "vlc", you'll have no trouble finding it. Takes up a lot less space than Winamp does plus it will play just about everything you can throw at it, including Cue and Wave/FLAC pairs. Take a look at the Creative Muvo TXFM. Great little flash player that is simple and supports WMA DRM and MP3. Possible it supports OGG but won't say for sure cause I don't know. I don't care if it plays RA, or wma really, since I do everything in mp3, although, if it does ogg, I guess I won't complain, but, not something I'd expect for a reasonably priced player. The one of the R-09 is one of the best I've ever heard on a recorder: When fast forwarding or rewinding, the sounds one hears are very close together, no big gaps as with some other recorders. The recorder first moves relatively fast, faster than a Minidisc recorder, but one can hear a lot of the music through which one moves. After one has held the button for a couple of songs, the R-09 gets faster! faster! faster! until one only hears one or two bits for each song. I think this is really great! If I just want to go to the next song or want to hear what the DJ says between the songs of a recorded radio show or music Podcast, the first cuing speed is great, but if I want to go forward or backward an hour or two, I keep holding the button and the accelerated cuing moves me to the desired position quickly. Another fine thing is the peak LED. At first I thought, it was a little scratch on the unit, but when somebody told me, that this is a peak LED, I tried whether I could hear it light up with my light probe. And indeed, this works quite well. I can check, whether the recording level is too high for a source, by listening to the peak LED with my light probe. <*** Michael Lang ***> You wrote: >Hi what I would like to know is. Re: Iriver H10 5gb
Hi Bob you wrote: Subject: Re: Iriver H10 5gb Hi Keith. I'm still looking. We all keep looking for the unit that is just right. *Well rockbox rules for the MP3 and OGG koddex. You won't see WmA anytime soon. The Devs are intelectually opposed to DRM or any other propriatory Koddex. One thing I don't like about my model is that it is something called MTP or media transfer protocol. So, it doesn't normally show up as a storage device in windows without a little trick. This means I normally would need to use Windows Media Player or another media player that supports synchronization to get music on the player. I have been messing around with WMP for days trying to move tracks on to the player with lousy results. I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I do know that Jaws doesn't see the synchronize dialog very well. * I can only assume that your trying to sink WMA and or DRM Plays for sure right? I'm really shocked that the unit won't show up as an additional drive letter under my computer. Are you running XP? If so, you don't need to install the accompanying software that came with your player. I have an Iriver IHP-140 running rockbox and it's simpkle copy and paste. I haven't updated yet, but according to the readme file, this shouldn't be a problem for blind people, because one doesn't have to use a menu to do it. The most important new feature is SDHC compatibility. The Edirol R-09 now works with the new SDHC cards. SDHC is the name of the new SD card specification 2.0, which standardizes the new SD card capacities from 4 to 32 gigabytes. There are none SDHC cards of 4 gigs available, but it's proberbly much safer to use an SDHC card, and I've already seen eight gigabytes SDHC cards. Somebody already has uploaded the firmware to a yousendit address and at taperssection.com, a couple of people have used this firmware to successfully update their Edirol recorder: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=A6A3B0B0242A100C <*** Michael Lang ***> ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] This list is a service of MosenExplosion.com. Re: Marantz Model PMD660
Judy, you wrote: Michael you wrote: > Michael, do the menus wrap? I had the 660 for two weeks and after reading the manual, I made the following decision: The 660 uses three profiles, in which every menu item is set. One can set a recording source, automatic or manual recording level control, recording quality and lots of other things in these profiles. Switching between the three profiles is easy, one only has to go to the first menu item and in it, one can do that. But making all the settings for each profile is difficult for a blind person. I asked somebody sighted to do that for me. After it, I only switched from profile to profile and therefore don't know, whether the menus wrap or not. *To me that's highly significant. If I am interpreting what your saying here, once you have the settings for each program adjusted to your tates you then just need to select the profile you want to record to and your good to go. To me that seems more blind friendly then starteing from scratch every time? Now, I came across a website which I was able to traverse with no problem, the Panasonic.com website; but now, I can't do that because they use flash content. I tried to download and reinstall the flash player by going to macromedia.com, but the website won't let me do that there. I read on their site that flash is installed with Windows XP, but is there another way I can get that back, without having to reinstall Windows. I think that would be a drastic step. Hi, Rock box is open source thus it's free. Check out the deal at www.rockbox.org Another great multi purpose unit is the Victor Steam from Humanware: www.humanware.ca It's not cheap but it does it all: It also has an internal speaker which has been improved with the release of the latest firmware. Re: Michael Lang
Well said Jonathan! I always found Mr. Lang's accent quite appealing. He always came across as being quite an educated man. He will be missed Keith Gillard - Original Message - From: "Jonathan Mosen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2008 12:49 AM Subject: Michael Lang I'm very behind on my list mail due to travel, so have only now just read the tragic news of Michael's death and would very much like to pay my respects. It was my great honour to get to know Michael when he contacted me with a view to submitting reviews for Main Menu back in 2002. Michael had quite a pronounced German accent, and he was very conscious of this, wondering if he really was good enough to submit reviews in English for Main Menu. I assured him he didn't have to worry. When I heard the first review he sent me, on the Plextalk PTR1, I was amazed! His command of the English language was outstanding. When he put a review together, it was unbelievably thorough, and scrupulously fair. Michael was, to many of us, the authority when it came to the intricacies and particulars of many portable music and DAISY players. He would give generously of his time and his information to help all of us. It was like he was an encyclopedia on the subject, which he very much made his specialty. I got to know Michael more personally when he was kind enough to help me with the German BrailleNote I was working on in 2003. The fact that he was such a good English speaker as well as a native German speaker, and that he wasn't afraid to be candid about product deficits, made him invaluable. Michael would tell me sometimes that he had dreadful trouble keeping a regular sleep pattern, something which impacts on many of us who are blind and don't have light perception. It was so bad that he said he felt it really had an impact on employability for him. He was unassuming, perhaps even lacking in confidence. But he was a very smart and giving man. I'm deeply shocked by his passing, and can only say that I'm privileged to have worked and talked with him. I hope we will remember Michael by giving freely of our knowledge as he did, and also by making a fresh commitment to look out for each other. Maybe if we all take time to listen to one another's stories, to reach out, to be sensitive to one another's needs and struggles, then just maybe we can offer hope at a time when someone truly needs it. I'll miss him very much. Hi, Well your right. You used to be able use it to convert to WMA using the Nero Direct show plug-in for Windows Media version 9. MS closed the door on that on a long time ago. Noticed it even sounds better if you place fingers over the headphone and USB sockets. I Got the Zen Stone 2GB mainly for talking books on the road so the very good sound quality is a total bonus. Like the included silicone sleeve and clip. Found I can easily wind excess headphone wire around the body and secure under the clip while still being able to attach to clothing. Nice! Hi As I said in my previous message, the media section of the player includes a number of radio stations, podcast and audio books you can listen to right from within the player. It also allows you to send and receive private messages, sort of like IMs, and every user gets their own Microblog, or at least that's what it's called. You can also play a dice poker game on it, and this is only the beginning. and as I said before this is all self-voicing, no screenreader required. Here in the Uk the Talking newspaper for the Blind charity, and now Wireless for the Blind Fund -Yes, it's really called that! - are distributing the Orion web radio but many here are less impressed. Seems the voice tagging of the stations you can get iss handeld centrally and so the stations you can actually reciev ge restricted to HQ's decisions. I think we are waiting for a better solution that uses TTS and allows for far more choice of stations than the very small selection on offer from provider organisations. (I'd be interested to hear if this is in fact different in the US implementations of the web box.) Ray. - Original Message - From: "Petro T.
