i have the zen stone one GB , but there is a 2 GB version, and i am wondering apart from the obvious difference in disk space, has the 2 GB model any other additions, i am really pleased with the xen stone, which i use specifically for books, i have an i audio also, with voiceboxthat i use just for music, always remember that it takes about 20 seconds for the zen stone to come on, i would welcome any information about the two gb version, travel safely, joe. hello friends, i have just been given a creative labs sound card, after installing it i have a problem, i use a mixer, and when i run the mixer in to the "line in" on the sound card i can't hear anything on the headphones it seems that it doesn't work with both the headphones and "line in" connected, in other words i can't monitor what's going through, what am i doing wrong? any help gratefully accepted, it's a creative labs X mod, USB module, thanks, joe bollard. hello friends, i've tried this question before on this and other lists without success, but i don't give up easily, i am in possession of an I audio F2 recorder, very small, with a telephone keypad for controls, it is made by "cowone" am i the only person in the whole world with such a recorder, it has a built in microphone, a line in facility which i'm told can also be used to take an external mike, it's about the size of the zenstone one gigabyte, at present it doesn't seem very blind friendly, but as i say, i don't give up easily, i'll keep experimenting with it, can anyone pour any light on this gadget?? thanks, joe. hi friends, i am now the proud possessor of the edirol r-1, it's a fantastic piece of equipment, and the internal microphones are simply amazing, i do a lot of high quality audio workand therefore need a high quality blind friendly recorder, and this baby meets all my needs, just one question, the flash card that comes with the recorder is not big enough for what i need, so i went out and bought a compact one gig flash card, but it cost me an arm and a leg, [and it's bad enough being blind without getting another disability] seriously, a friend of mine called me tonight telling me that i could purchase one gig flash cards on the net for half the price i payed for mine in my local computer store, the two flash cards she mentioned were "ora" and "scan disk" can anyone advise me as to whether or not these two cards are any good?? it states in the manual that the edirol r-1 can cope with a four gigabyte flash card, but it recommends using a two gig card, finally, if anyone on the list is thinking about purchasing the edirol r-1, i say, go for it, it's the best recorder i have come across yet, sorry for going on so long, it's just my irish prattle, thanks, any advice most welcome, regards from ireland, joe. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. mp3 player frustration
hello friends, for some time now i have been looking for a "blind friendly" mp3 player, i've spoken to some of my blind friends, and strangely enough they all seem to come up with "well, you could get this one, or that one, but o no, they don't make them any more" can someone please enlighten me as to what is a good reasonably priced mp3 player suitable for use by a blind person,i do a lot of travelling and am currently using a sony CD and mp3 disk player, it came with "sonic stage" software but i don't use it as i have roxio on my computer, i want to put a good amount of material from my CD collection on to the mp3 player, and also podcasts, any suggestions will be really appreciated, regards, joe. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. hello friends, firstly, let me apologise for bringing up this subject again, but i haven't got it straight yet, let me put you in the picture, i have recorded a thirty minute piece, it consists of five slots, each about six minutes in length, the first two are fine, the second two are at somewhat lower levels than the first two, and the final slot is at the same level as the first two, if i normalise the whole audio file, [i'm using sound forge] will that bring all the files to the same level?? when saving the file my computer says "building peaks" i would really be grateful if this could be explained to me in laymans terms, i am no computer whizzkid, hope someone can help, regards, joe. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. yes, i folloed your instruction and on going in to the volume control this is what i found, speaker balance, speaker volume, mute all, [and this was unchecked] wave balance, wave bolume [one hundred per cent] mute all, ][and this also was unchecked] s w synths, sw synths volume one hundred per cent, [mute all, unchekced] and then i found myself back at speaker balance again, can't find "line in" or microphone volume anywhere, anyone want to buy a computer, getting to the end of my tether now, i know it's there somewhere, the line in and microphone volume, but where i haven't much hair to lose, but i'll have less if this is not solved, frustrated irishman, joe. hello friends, i am using sound forge eight, i am endeavouring to record an audio file, i am using a mixer to which i have connected a flash card recorder, and i am using a microphone, the line out of my mixer goes to the line in of my sound card, i have followed all the instructions concerning the line in volume on my sound card, it is down to thirty per cent, i have regulated the master control on the mixer, and the channel dealing with the recorder, everything sounds ok as i listen through my headphones, but on playing it back, wow, it's just crashing loud, and distorted, i have been using this mixer for a couple of years now and have had no problems, however, i do have skype, could that have anything to do with the problem??? something is turned up somewhere, can anyone help, would really appreciate any suggestions, thanks joe. hello friends, i have been using roxio for quite some time now and have never really had any problems with it, however, today i have been trying to record a file on to a disk using roxio, as i commence recording the disk pops out, and a message comes up saying "parameter is incorrect" what does that mean, a few days ago i acquired a pack of blank audio Cd's they weren't my usual brand, in fact they were a very cheap brand, i have tried four of the batch and the same message keeps coming up, is it the fault of the disks or am i not doing something i should be doing, any help will be gratefully accepted, regards from ireland, joe. hi michael, my problem with roxio is that when trying to record a file on to a dis, as soon as the recording starts the disk pops out of the drive and i get a message saying "incorrect parameter" this has only happened to me recently, i bought a batch of blank Cd's and they are not the usual brand i use, is the problem with the audio file i'm trying to put on to the CD or is it the Cd itself, i have tried a number of cd's from the batch but i'm still getting the same message, i've been using roxio for some years now and only now am i having this problem, thanks for your interest, joe. hello friends, i have just had a new sound card installed on my desktop, i'm using sound forge seven, jaws 11 and windows seven, i also have the "line in" and speakers in the correct places, however, when i go in to sound forge to record i get zilch, nothing, i'm using a beringer mixer i can play music files in sound forge but not record, now i know i have something either not switched on, but where to look, it's so long since i've set this up that i can't remember where to go to get everything up and running for recording, any help will be really appreciated, take care, god bless, travel safely, joe. last december i started to have problems with audible, i couldn't download books, couldn't even get in to "my library" at the time i had no credits due to me, each month i tried to get it sorted, no luck, my credits started to build up, i was being charged for books i couldn't access or download or even add to my library, month by month i emailed, phoned, and spoke with various audible representatives in various parts of the world, my phone bill was huge, pleaded, asked countless questions to numerous people at audible, but still without success, i even got an e mail to say they didn't recognise my e mail address, now, here i am, six months later, and six credits poorer and still no joy, i'm almost at the point where i will forfeit my credits and forget about audible altogether, and this is from someone who has been an audible member for some years now without any problems, and i have also recommended audible to my friends, it's a total disgrace, i'll give it one more try this week and if still unsuccessful i'll forget about the whole thing, is it just me??? sorry for the rant, take care, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland. hello friends, recently i purchased a turntable to allow me to transfer vinyl material on to my computer and from there to CD, it's a USB gadget, i ran the install drivers CD, then when i plugged in the turntable jaws immediately stopped speaking, i'm using jaws 11 with windows seven, i then got sighted help, instructions came up on the screen but jaws wasn't speaking it, am i doing something wrong? but i'm just following instructions, any help will be gratefully appreciated, god bless, travel safely, joe. hello brian, o boy, what a mess, audible i mean, i spent thirty minutes on the phone yesterday with a lady in jamaica trying to get her to understand my problems with audible,, she was very indistinct and couldn't make out what i was trying to say, eventually she agreed to put my six credits on hold for three months as i was having difficulty in accessing them, she then told me that my e mail address could not be found, i gave her my amazon details, yes, she found me, wow, we're getting somewhere, then she agreed to send me a password change e mail, along with a contact at audible to whom i could write and complain about the treatment i've had from audible, yes, you've guessed it, that was yesterday afternoon and zilch, i've heard nothing, so for the last time today i'm going to call audible and if nothing happens i'll forfeit my six credits and cancel everything, it's gone beyond a joke now, i started having this problem with audible last december, and it's now may, and i'm still without my audible books, sorry once again for the rant, but it's really bugging me, take care, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, republic of ireland. hello friends, lately when attaching my plextalk recorder to the USB port on my desktop i've been getting the message "one of the portable devices has malfunctioned and this computer doesn't recognise it" this means i can't copy material from the plextalk, i'm using windows seven and sound forge seven, this is only a recent phinominon can anyone help, i do a lot of audio work and use my plextalk a lot, take care,god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland. well friends, regarding the card, does not the plextalk only use daisy format? therefore it wouldn't be possible to do any editing, or would it, i tried another USB cable, but i still got the same message, and yet, on my laptop the problem doesn't occur, the laptop seems to accept the plextalk, but i do all my audio editing on the desktop, i have a couple more USB cables i'll try tonight, thanks for your help and interest, travel safely, joe. transfering from cassettes

victor reader stream question
hello friends, i have never had any problems with my victor reader stream which i've had for over three years and use regularly to read my audio books, but the day before yesterday i tried plugging it in to my laptop, and the laptop couldn't find it, i changed USB cables, but still no joy i tried yet another USB cable, without success, it still wasn't recognising the victor reader stream, in desperation i switched to my desktop, still no luck, i tried taking the battery out and putting it in again, zilch, the reader stream is fully charged, i have lotsof space left on it, with only one book waiting to be read, i'm totally perplexed, i'm an avid reader, and dread the thought of being without my reader, can anyone suggest something that will solve this problem for me, any help will be really appreciated, god bless, take care, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland. ezcap transfer
recently i acquired a piece of software to enable me to transfer audio files from cassette to my computer, it's called "ezcap USB audio capture" it came with a USB lead, some jacks and a CD, i've tried loading up the Cd but am not having much joy, it wasn't overly expensive and i'm wondering if anyone on the list has come across it, and i'm also wondering now if it was worth even the box it came in, i have quite an amount of cassette material i want to put on to CD, any suggestions will be really appreciated, take care, god bless, travel safely, joe. hello friends, firstly, i'm not sure if this is the correct list on which to ask this question, if not my apologies to the moderator, and secondly, i have tried unsuccessfully to solve the problem myself, i have a pen drive, on which there is one file i can't delete, in fact it's not actually a file, it's just one character, the "at" sign, it must have been part of some document i had on the pen drive at some time, it's been there for ages, and i want to delete it, but every time i try i get a message saying "can't delete this file cannot find the source disk" i want to delete it but can't, any suggestions, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland.

accessible skype call recording software
friends i've read with interest all the various suggestions for an accessible skype call recording software, and have to admit i'm still confused, what i'm looking for is software that will record my gw connect calls, don't mind if i have to pay for it, but i want to be able to use it for radio interviews if possible, it has also been suggested to me that i use my sound forge with an external soundcard for gw connect, and a friend of mine has also suggested "duck stream" whatever that may be, i'm using windows seven with jaws 11, any help will be really appreciated, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland

ok friends, i'm back looking for help and advice, i am a bigsports fan, living in the republic of ireland, i listen to bbc radio five live for most of my sports news and commentaries, except for my national sports coverage here in ireland, but i have to listen to radio five live on my radio, whenever i go to the bbc radio five live website for commentary i get a message saying something like "due to contractual situations we are not permitted to transmit the present programme" so i'm back to listening to steam radio on the A.M band, fading in and out, am i missing something here, is there a way i can listen to commentaries from five live on my laptop, any help will be really appreciated, god bless, travel safely, joe bollard, the republic of ireland.

hello friends, and a happy new year to everyone on the list, one of my new year resolutions is to get some of my audio technology problems sorted, so here goes i work for a radio station, producing and presenting a programme for and about people with sight loss, i work mainly from home and i quite often have to do phone interviews, so far i use my edirol recorder placing the very good microphone close to the phone speaker, it's ok, but slightly micky mouse, i have skype, and skype out, i also have sound forge six, i want to use skype to record my phone interviews, it would sound much more professional, can anyone help, is there a piece of equipment i can purchase to help me achieve a very good standard, any advice will really be appreciated, i have heard of the hybrid, what is it and is it good?? take care, regards from ireland, joe. c.dex problem still not solved
hello again friends i'm still not having any success with the c.dex on my laptop, i'm following all the correct instructions, but when the disk is finished there is still no sign anywhere on my computer of the tracks i have ripped, i've done a search for them on the computer, but they are nowhere to be found, there is nothing in my "recorded tracks" or in my "no artist" folder, totally empty, something has occurred to me however, am i meant to create an mp3 folder in my documents for the ripped files to go in to? i haven't done that, i spent two hours or more yesterday afternoon trying to get the darn thing to work, without success, i am using windows xp, and jaws nine, i'd really like to get this problem sorted so any help will be really appreciated, regards from a very frustrated irishman, joe. hello casey, that's exactly what happens on my desktop pc, but it doesn't happen on my laptop,i do have a folder in "my documents" called "my music" but there is nothing in it, so i am wondering if i should unload c.dex and download it again, everything works fine on my desktop pc as i say, but i want to be able to rip stuff using my laptop instead of spending hours up in my room on the pc up there, it really is a puzzle, by the way, c.dex was on my laptop when i bought it, my mother used to say, "when joe has a problem, it really is a problem" wasn't she right, take care, regards from ireland, joe. struggling with audible
hello friends, now i hope you're sitting comfortably for this one, i have an account with audible, but as yet have not downloaded any books, so, tonight i decided i would download a book, i have credits for the past three months,i chose a book, it went in to "my library" it then asked me if i wanted to open or download the book, so far so good, easy-peasy, i decided i would download it to "my documents" before transferring it to the victor stream reader,it started to down load that took just a few seconds, which surprised me, then when i went to look for the book in "my documents" there was no sign of it,i think i downloaded a short file,some sort of software file, anyone got any ideas? when i click on the book i have purchased do i have to put it in to my basket, and then sign out? i have two books sitting in "my library" where do i go from there, any help will be gratefully appreciated, regards from a balding irishman who is slowly pulling out his hair, take care travel safely, joe. hello friends, have been struggling with c dexe for the past two days, when i place the cd in the drive and open up c dexe it says "access remote freedb" if i hit enter and wait nothing happens, i tab down to "access local freedb" and still nothing happens, i press f 9 to start ripping but i don't get any information, no album title, no track information, just "audio track one, audio track two" etc, the album is loaded in to "my music folder, but with no information, a message comes up "no artist" and then again the track numbers with no details of individual tracks, i'm using jaws eleven and windoes xp, i know i am omitting something but just what, can anyone help, i want to do a lot of work over the next few days, any help will really be appreciated, regards from ireland, joe.
