Re: MP3Sparks

2008-07-25 Thread Dancing Queen
Hi

I was using this site yesterday and found it to be very slow, this afternoon
I can't get on it at all, it loads, or seems to but there must be something
amiss as supernova isn't playing ball with it at all, I'm going to try
again in a sec.

I can't remember who it was I bought e money from to refill my balance but
it wasn't the company you mention so I can't comment on that.

I find their selection of music very good.

I heard that it was the Americans who forced allofmp3 to close if Russia was
to join the world trade organization, Mr Bush wants to pull his head in me
thinks as he doesn't rule the entire planet, even though he thinks he does.

as for the credit companies not allowing transactions on that site, last
time I checked it wasn't their job to sensor where we spend our money, they
need pulling in to line as well.

Re: An audio file with no extention and isn't recognised

2008-07-25 Thread Gary Hough
Hi, Depending on the size of the file such as 3 to 5 mbs.
Have you tried renaming the file with a mp3 extention.
It's a long shot but it might work.
Try different options such as wav or mp3.
It will give you a warning that renaming file extentions is posibly
detromental but just answer okay and hope for the best.
Make a backup of the file before you try anything.
Take care,

Gary.

Recording audio with Gold Wave

2008-07-25 Thread Sid Pritchard
Hello again,

I'm just starting out trying to transfer backing tracks from mini disk into
Gold Wave. When I have succeeded with this I want to add a vocal track to,
hopefully, make my own recordings of songs and put them on cd.

Unfortunately, I'm having trouble

a: monitoring the sound from mini disk and

b: fathoming out how to create a second window to take the vocal.

Can anyone help with simple instructions for a simple minded fellow like me?

I know there are lots of things to learn like markers etc. but let's get back
to basics first.

Looking forward to anyone's suggestions.

Sid

Hi! You might want to check on either the blind geek zone or blind cool
tech web sites. Rick Harmon did an awesome set of tutorials for goldwave,
so probably anything you could possibly want to know would be covered in
one of the 8 sections of the tutorial.
Good luck!

I'd make a copy of the file and begin adding dot mp3 wma and other likely

Need reccomendations on a decent and accessible USB soundcard:

2008-07-25 Thread Donald Breda
Hi Listers.

I just joined this list so I missed the thread on this subject.

I am told that usb soundcards were being discussed on this list a while ago.

I need a USB soundcard with mic line in and at least 2.1 audio out but would
prefer 5.1 suround sound but not necessary.

I need to be able to kknow what levels I am setting and what is muted or not
and soforth.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am using realtech onboard sound at the moment and am not able to control the
line in record volume.

2008-07-25 Thread albert griffith
I'd first try mp3 and txt for extensions. P.S. be sure to make a copy
first.

A friend of mine downloaded a sound clip from the Dr Who site's text only
version and that one's a strange beast as well, she couldn't open it and she
sent it to me, when I try to open it I get told that the file format's not
reognized and windows needs to access the net to find out what to open it
with, very very strange!!

Re: Easy CD-DA Extractor Problem

2008-07-25 Thread Larry Naessens
I think it's around $40. The site claims that upgrades are free, but if your
key doesn't work you apparently have to by a new key. It only costs 8
dollars and something, but one cannot define that as free. I wrote to the
developer using an old address that I had for him, but the email bounced. I
tried using their tech support form, but the form could not be submitted
without either my key (which was rejected) or the email address used to
purchase the product. My email address was also rejected, despite the fact
that it has never changed. Maybe it's just time to move on.

RE: An audio file with no extension and isn't recognised

2008-07-25 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi I guess the bit rate depends on a number of factors. As a bench mark,
The best quality for CDs and for those who will accept nothing else other
than the best quality is 320KBS. This bit rate will do you well regardless
of the type, or quality of the music or the quality of CD player used.
However, many variables come in here such as the type of music played. For
example you will get the full benefit of 40's & 50's music with 320 bit but
equally, a bit rate as low as 128 will suffice for this type of music. The
more complex the music and the more detail you want to hear, such as in
classical music the higher the bit rate the better. Also, it depends on how
you are going to listen to your music. If you just want background music or
are playing your CD on a basic cd player then a high bit rate will be
superfluous as you won't get the full benefit of the quality of recording.
On the other hand, if you listen to your music seriously and on a high end
system then you would be wise to get the highest bit rate you can as this
system will highlight any lack of quality in a lower bit rate. in other
words, it is horses for courses. If when ripping CDs or downloading music
tracks and if a choice of bit rate is available then 320KBS is the best to
go for. Often when using download sites, you don't have a choice of bit
rates and have to take what is offered and you must decide whether you want
the music enough to accept a rate lower than 320KBS or look for The 320KBS
elsewhere. In addition, the only reason you would want to use a low rate
is for space saving on an MP3 player. There is another factor to consider
that I encountered more than once; when I ripped a CD borrowed from a friend
at 320KBS and then later tried to burn it to another CD It wouldn't fit.
For example, if the CD had 25 tracks on it and I ripped it at 320KBS and
then tried burning it to disc, I would get a message saying there was not
enough room on the Blank CD and I would either have to replace this blank
disc with one of larger capacity which was not possible as the disc I was
using was the largest capacity available. I would either have to burn the
disc with 23 or 24 tracks rather than the original 25 or convert the files
to a lower bit rate in order to get them all on the disc, and I'm speaking
here of an audio disc and not an MP3 disc (I have no idea why this is the
case). So although 320KBS is the "best" there are many factors that have to
be considered when deciding what bit rate you want. Speaking on a personal
note, my hi-fi system is a high end Cyrus and mission system and I have
played some music on CDs I've burned at 128KBS and it is no different to the
320KBS version but this comparison was done with music from 50's and 60's
where detail wasn't critical and the tracks were of the "pop" variety. Had
it been orchestral, the results may have been different but still
acceptable. Hope this is of help. Walter.

Re: An audio file with no extention and isn't recognised

2008-07-25 Thread Dancing Queen
windows media player lets you rip music at some three hundred and something,
wonder if that's the same as on the actual cd.

Hi Everyone. I just downloaded the latest version of easy CD-DA
extractor.
After installing it, I attempted to register it using my key from
version
10. I copied both the key and the email address directly from the email
sent
to me by the developer at the time of purchase. Upon entering and
re-entering the key, I was repeatedly told that it was invalid. When I
attempted to use the company support form to contact the developer and
explain my problem, my submission was blocked, again due to the claim
that
my key is invalid. Finally, I logged in at the "reg" page using my email
address and attempted to retrieve my key in case they had changed it
from
the designated code for version ten. At this point, i was told that I
needed
to purchase the info. I don't believe that I should have to purchase a
key
when one that is supposed to work is already in my possession. Further,
if
there is an email contact address on the page either for the developer
or
for the company marketing the software, I'm unable to locate it.

I have red on this list that the developer is a decent sort, so
presumably
I'm missing something. With all that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone
can
offer a suggestion for contacting them in order to resolve my problem.
Paying the $8 is no big deal, but I shouldn't have to pay for a key that
I
have not in fact lost.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Re: Easy CD-DA Extractor Problem

2008-07-25 Thread Larry Naessens
It's new since the last time I was there to get an update. It is set up like
any other purchase. When I bought the program, I was told that upgrades
would be free, and they still are unless you need a new key. If I had lost
the key, I would expect to pay for my negligence. But if his provided key
does not work, it should not be my problem or my expense.

Mp3 books

2008-07-25 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Dennis was looking for another source of books than Audible. I gave
him, I think, audiobookstore.com

I meant to suggest:

http://www.audiobookstand.com

Books come in drm .wma, but there's lots of stuff on sale and there are
lots of authors who do not appear on Audible.

external microphone and Vista

2008-07-25 Thread Loren Buntemeyer
I cannot get my microphone to work with a Dell laptop and Vista. The built-in
microphone works, but when I plug in the external microphone, it does not turn
off the laptop mic nor allow the external to work. Can you tell me the
procedures to correct this problem and how do I get to the mic settings with
this wonderful Vista? XP is great.

A Reliable database for music

2008-07-25 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
I've both ripped my CDs in Itunes and Windows Media Player and found that
Itunes tends to be much more accurate when labelling songs. I suppose it's down
to the online database used by each program I've tried updating the
unrecognised disks and wrongly labelled disks in Windows Media Player without
much success as I don't find the pages too easy to read and make choices from.
Can I submit my already ripped disks to another database or can I associate
Windows Media Player with another database, and if so which ones do people
recommend as for being accurate?
Thanks in anticipation.
Gordon McFarlane.
