Re: Creative ZenStone
Hello all list members, I have 2 questions about this little MP3 player. Will the 2 gig one play WMA lossless files? And, are there a nice sounding pare of battery powered stereo speakers that can be used with it? Thanks in advance. Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
I suspect that if you had already purchased soundforge or something from Tracertech, you wouldn't necessarily even know anything about Goldwave. this is one of those programs the blind people brought to the forefront because of it's accessibility, and the developer's willingness to make it so. it would be like driving around in a Lamberdini and one day finding yourself having to get to and from with a Hugo. it gets most jobs done if you are willing to tweak it. if you are fortunate enough to have available plug-ins, they will most certainly work with goldwave. - Original Message - From: "Dan Eickmeier" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Wednesday, March 05, 2008 7:11 AM Subject: Re: Goldwave Audio Editor > Hi Caroline, > if you have other plugins, like ones from SoundForge for example, you > could use them, instead of using one that has come with GW. Re: Foobar 2000
I saw that screen compatibility stuff but never actually found it. I think it was for an older version of foobar. Anyway let me see if I can explain the keyboard setup. Basically after you go into preferences on the file menu and open the general branch of the tree view, the new section is keyobard shortcuts or something. When you tab around you will hear the normal prefernces buttons: save all, close, reset, whatever. Then you will se a list view, if you arrow down you will hear some keystrokes and there descrpition with a bit of giberish betweeen every thing. Once you have highlighted any entry in this list by either arrowing down or pressing spacebar or whatever the rest of the dialog box will be revealed. If nothing get highlighted in this list you will not see the rest of what I am talking about. Anyway, now that you have something highlighted you can tab to the add then remove buttons. Now here comes the fun part the next time you hit tab you will see a tree view of all the commands foobar offers; context menu commands, menu bar commands, playlist commands, and more. When you find the command you want tab once to the edit field and press your desired keystroke. Press shift tab till you find the add button. Now to check your work shift tab to the first listview and see if your keystroke and command have been added to the list. Well that is the short version. If you have trouble I can go through and give an example if you'd like. There might be other ways of doing this but this is how I've been d oing it, and remember I've only used this program for a few weeks now. Re: Exact Audio Copy Class
Exactly! this has been mentioned on-list before and if you look through the pc-audio archives you'll also see that I (and a couple of others) have discussed EAC at length, I went so far as to say (then as I do now) that Exact Audio Copy is the best CD ripping solution on the planet because of its accuracy, flaxibility and configurability. I've been using Exact Audio Copy for the past 5 years and I've discussed aspects of my time with EAC and how I (along with others) have evolved a CD library of Cue and Flac files, these pairs can be both produced and used with Exact Audio Copy to produce some astonishing feats and these keep getting more numurus as time goes on so I'll summaries what cue and Flac file pairing allows me to do with EAC at the present. Firstly, I have over 10,000 CD'S formatted in this way. I have up until this point kept them backed up on DVD discs with a simple text file to catalogue all of them but as of tomorrow? Well, all this content gets dumped on to a NAD (Networked Attached Drive), all my computers over the network will have access to them. Next, using EAC or other compatible software, I can use a pair of files and convert the pair to MP3 or whatever tracks. Suppose for example you had a pair of files called SuperTramp - Breakfast In America.cue and .flac as a pair, you could use Exact Audio Copy to have the MP3 tracks of the album produced. further to this, you could make an exact CD copy using the file pair for your CD player. Now of course, what I'm talking about here can't be done overnight, it takes a bit of setting up and a few little extra tools make the job a lot easier but if I and other people can do it and you want your music at your fingertips then I certainly recommend you having a look at this as other list members have done, actually got a note from one a few days ago about what a difference this approach had made to both he having accurate and error-free rips and music at his convenience. I start Gold Wave recording. Then I switch into Winamp, start my file, and sing my vocal.. Then I go in and trim the beginning and end off the vocal, since it's just typing sounds. Then I load the music track into Gold Wave. I copy the trimmed vocal track into the clipboard, and use control+m to mix it in with the music track. Preview really helps here because you can edit the precision of where you want it to start to within a thousandth of a second. When it's mixed, including volumes and so on, you save the track. This has the added benefit that you can add any effects to your voice (reverb, for example, I use the Freeverb plugin as it provides better reverb than Gold Wave's) before mixing the voice with the music, so you don't have to apply the effect to the background music as well. That's a fair question. Easy CD DA Extractor comes very close but for one thing, you cannot set the drive offsets so therefore you don't get exact rips. Re: zenstone question
I've never used Creative Media Lite without the scripts, so I don't know how usable it is without them, but it doesn't seem like a very complicated application. BTW, according to the web page, here are the features of the scripts: • Most of the buttons speak their names as you use Tab, Shift+Tab or Insert+Tab. There is still a bit of work to be done in the Settings Dialog of the CD ripper as the fields do not speak correctly but this will come in time. • When you Tab into the main drive list or the Zen player contents list, the individual list is identified. • F12 activates the Audio CD rip Button. • Usefully, you can now check or uncheck the songs to be extracted from a CD from the list by pressing Space Bar. JAWS will announce if the song is checked or unchecked. • ALT+Control+V will allow you to set the maximum volume of the player and access the parental controls. • ALT+Control+U enables updates to be accessed via the Internet. • F11 tells you the charge of the player and the amount of free space. • A small amount of Hotkey Help is available. Chris Skarstad wrote: > Yep, and let's take this a step further, I actually did give the > creative media lite software a look, i wanted to know what it was all > about. Hi All, yes, the one gb has a radio in it. You just push the top left bar twice down and the ridio goes on. You have to tune in by pressing the right or left buttons off the center button and it works well. The 2 gb is on sale or sells for $53 at WallMart right now. The zenstone plus 1 gb and the 2 gb do have screens but I just get around by prssing buttons. I like the smaller zenstone better because it has buttons instead of a bar but it does not have the radio or the capacity! I like them both and that is it for me. Re: Creative ZenStone
Hi. Wow, there must be more than one version of the 1 GB model of the Zen stone, because I just tried what was suggested, and the bar is actually more of a slide switch. It doesn't actually push inwards, rather it can be moved over to one position for shuffle play, the other position for regular, and if you move it to the left, it will switch folders, this is of course assuming you've put more than one folder of music or audio on it. and when you move the bar to the left to change folders, the switch doesn't move into another position, it moves and then when you let it go it moves back where it was, the best way i can describe it is it sort of springs to the other position and when you let go of the bar it moves back in place. I'm probably not doing it justice. But I most definitely have the 1 GB model, no question about it and mine most definitely does not have an fm radio on it. Maybe some other moddels of the 1 GB storage version have been produced including a radio, but mine does not have that. At 10:48 PM 3/5/2008, you wrote: >Hi All, yes, the one gb has a radio in it. Re: Goldwave Audio Editor
Hi Caroline, if you have other plugins, like ones from SoundForge for example, you could use them, instead of using one that has come with GW. For example, if you wanted an effect that you could get using SoundForge, I'm pretty sure that you could use that same effects plugin with GoldWave. Personally I've used SoundForge for all my major editing for any production work I've done for various internet stations. Hope that helps you. Re: Exact Audio Copy Class
Well yes, it can be made to do some file conversions, you can for example convert from wave to MP3 and this feature is even further enhanced if you know the command line structure of the 32-bit console versions of say Flac or LAME, you can them set these command lines up in EAC and load them on a "profile" basis, one for Flac, one for different presets of LAME and so forth. I probably haven't explained myself properly here so please (if you need to) ask questions. What makes an editor professional is determined by the skill of the person doing the editing. If you haven't a clue on what to listen for, remove or enhance, I don't care how many bells and whistles a particular editing program may have you're going to get poor to mediocre quality. No it's not, not if you read my instructions previously. Using the what you hear option would make it impossible to record the vocals separately. It's another way of recording the vocals, yes, but it doesn't give you the control over the effects you wish to apply to the vocals. Other Audio Editors And Jaws Scripts
Hello list members, I went to: http://www.tracertek.com/index.asp and I was looking at 2 different types of software for audio editing and restoring. They are called DC-6 and DC7. I called them and asked them if any of their software was Jaws user friendly. When the guy I spoke too said something to me about graphics, I thought to myself, Jaw scripts will be needed in order for me to use this software. He did say however, that blind people have used the plug ins without any problems, but the rest of it had problems. But my real question is, can Jaw scripts be written for both DC-6 and DC-7? Thanks in advance. John. PS. DC-7 according to the website, just came out. Either one can give you the sound of vacuum tube equipment on your computer. Sorry Mack owners/users, this software is strictly for PC's. That's my only disappointment about it because I'm getting a Mack system later on down the road. Brett, Thanks a million for your description for defining hot keys. I've given it a quick try, and it seems to work for me, so think I'm on the right track. Unfortunately, I bought a dell laptop because they said they were still using realtek audio and when I got it, the sigmatel audio (spelled wrong) would not work correctly with line in or any of our microphones. Re: sound editing?
High Bruce, I don't mean to get off topic here, but do you or anyone on this list know about an audio editor called DC6? I'm asking because I am wondering how user friendly it mite be with Jaws and other screen readers. There is a newer virgin of it out called DC-7. I am also wondering about this one too as well. Thanks in advance. Re: Other Audio Editors And Jaws Scripts
Hi As far as I'm aware DC6 and DC7 have no jaws scripts so far. In general however the program is pretty accessible by menus and tab around dialog boxes. It is excellent at noise reduction and excitement, giving hundreds of presets making it usable for us. One drawback I found which I brought up with Tracertek was that the file was difficult to navigate, to select various portions etc. If you edit the file into pieces in for example Adobe Audition, Gold Wave, etc. then filter the appropriate parts in DC7 then it's fine. Ingeneral however I find I'm only cleaning whole files and therefore drop them into DC7 to filter as a whole. Regards. Unusuall File Extensions
High List members, I am trying out DC-7 in demo mode, it's producing some weird file extensions. I have a tape that's titled, DJ DOCTOR P's radio show. But I'm seeing .ses and .pkf. No media player that I have on my computer will play these files. Can anyone tell me what this is about please? Thanks in advance. John. Anyone using Mixpad with Jaws?
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone is using Mixpad with Jaws. I'm giving it a go and don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has already found some work arounds for some of the stickier access issues. I'm not looking for recommendations for other programs. Re: Unusuall File Extensions
Hi These are just your working files. DC7 makes them for ease of use - you should still have your original wav file, and if you save it as something else (another name) it will contain your latest alterations. The ses file is just the information for the session and the pkf file is info about the particular file which saves the program scanning the original file every time it is loaded. Re: Other Audio Editors And Jaws Scripts
Hi John. Have you downloaded the demo? I haven't used DC 6 or 7 with Jaws very much, but they work well with Window-eyes. Have you tried the DC7 demo? It is a fully functional demo which works for 10 days before you're required to either give it up or open your wallet. An important note, DC7 offers more funcionality and from an accessibility standpoint it works the same as DC6. I would suggest downloading it and just see what you can do with it.
