Re: File Type

2007-04-03 Thread Steve Pattison
.APE files are saved in the Monkeys Audio format which is a lossless
audio compression format. A number of programs will play these files
including Winamp. All the information you need about the Monkeys
Audio format can be found at www.monkeysaudio.com. I hope this helps.

JAWS Scripts for Skype

2007-04-03 Thread Steve Pattison
JAWS scripts for Skype version 3.1 and earlier versions of Skype are
now available from www.dlee.org/skype. I don't know if any of these
scripts will work with Skype 3.2 which is currently in the beta test
stage. I haven't tried the scripts because I use Window-Eyes.

Hi,
Are the acceleration settings for playback set to maximum?
StartMenu, settings, control panel, hit enter on sounds and audio, control
tab to the Audio tab, press the Sound Playback Advanced button, control tab
to the Performance tab and move the sliders to increase your performance?

Subject: Weird sound problem

Hi listers!
I recently upgraded to Windows XP and since then I have a weird sound
problem I hope someone can help me with.
When there is some stronger system sound or when I play files online (sites
such as Myspace or YouTube) the quality of JAWS gets lower; it's as if it
was in sample rate of 22 kHz instead of 44 kHz. Then when I close the
playing sites or the system sound finishes it gets back to normal. Now I
noticed it also happens when I change the Winamp output to something else
than the DirectSound output: as soon as I start playing a file JAWS quality
gets worse but when I pause or stop it it gets back to normal. I have
Windows XP Professional, SB Live 5.1 and JAWS 4.51; I first thought it was a
JAWS problem and shortly tried version 7 and experienced the same, then I
haven't kept the newer version for now due to the lack of space on my system
HD, also JAWS 7 still doesn't have translations for Czech so I've kept this
older version for now instead. When I had the very same programs in Windows
98 I never had these problems with JAWS, only now that I upgraded to XP; so
I can only suspect it has something to do with the soundcard vs the system
since both versions of JAWS I tried should be compatible with XP, right? Any
ideas if there is some way to fix it?
Thank you very much in advance. In case this is not totally on-topic you can
write me privately, preferably at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Martina

Subject: Another Game Day Audio Issue

I'm having a different gameday audio problem. On one system I can log in to
a game, and all indications point to a player launching. Yet I'm hearing no
audio whatsoever. I don't think it's a firewall issue as I'm not
experiencing problems with any other audio on this machine. At the same
time, another computer in the house, running off the same wireless router
receives Gameday audio just fine. Note that to my knowledge, I did not
choose a player, as I could find nowhere to choose one with either Jaws or
Window-Eyes, both the latest and greatest versions of their respective
programs.

I phoned the MLB.com toll free support line and was told that what I was
describing couldn't be happening. Yet it is. So, I'd be grateful if someone
here could suggest anything that I might try.

I'm finding Game Day Audio to be somewhat frustrating and a bit of a hit and

miss proposition. But maybe it's me.

Thanks for any and all help.

Well, there is a way, just not for us. I run all my stuff through a mixer
and an audio processor. Wait, it's not as expensive as it sounds. I got my
mixer for $179 and my audio processor for about $90. Of course I use it for
other things and they have paid for themselves, but having equipment like
that is a huge advantage for sites like mlb. In mozilla with Window-eyes I
can find the slide controls for the volume, but can't do anything with them.

No, it doesn't work for me either. Think about it though. Those are Windows
Media player commands and you are not bringing up the Windows Media player,
you are bringing up their embedded media player which uses Windows Media
player but does not bring it up. Am I correct? I've never had player control
keys work in an embedded player which MLB is. Maybe your controlling the
sound card or something. A friend of mine had a program which let her
control her sound card volume by using those keys, don't remember what it
was though.

if you can get to it, you can turn on classic menus in windows media player
11.
you have to tab and arrow until you get to it. once you select the classic
menus,
you should be fine.

Subject: Re: Sam broadcaster

I sent out a post a few week ago about SAM Broadcaster and our experience
with it.
As I mentioned previously, the software appears to be a very good one,
especially considering the price.

Prior to using SAM, we had investigated a number of Autimation Software and
Scheduling Programs, and
while most of them were very expensive, we found that SAM did almost
everything that the others were doing.
We also found that the expensive software programs are being used by many of
the terrestial radio stations.

The one major draw back that we had with SAM is that although it is fairly
easy to use, from time to time, it is very
difficult to reach someone from SpacialAudio to trobleshoot and problems
that you may encounter with SAM. The
company doesn't seem to respond on the telephone in a timely fashion. They
will eventually contact you through email,
but there will be times when you will need to speak to live person, in 'real
time' and this presents a major problem when
you are running a 24-hr radio station such as our Jazz Internet Radio
Station, www.thejazzy1.com

You should have received an on-line manual with the program. If not, visit
the SpacialAudio website and look in their 'help'
section and you will find it there for you to download. If you need any
additional help, let me know, but I don't deal with
SpacialAudio any more. I can't take the frustrations anymore.

Earle, I am located in Birmingham UK. My station hasn't started streaming yet
but I hope to begin this week. How do you stream? It has been suggested to me
that windows incoda is good - what do you think? Others have mentioned
shoutcast and live 365. Which gives the least amount of buffering?

Yes. I have it and love it alot, only bad thing is that their's no way to
use IE on its own. btw, if I want to call into the show to ask questions
about Thunder on Main Menu live, i'll have to use Skype, as I am still at my
parents place and I will have to use their phone to call in.

Hello Everyone,

This week on Main Menu Live we present iTunes on the Mac. With the
recent
announcement of more accessibility for Mac users to use Voice Over with
iTunes, we wanted you to hear more about it from a Mac user's
perspective.
John Gunn presents to us initial findings using iTunes with Voice Over
on
the Mac.

Next we hear from RJ from RJ Cooper all about Thunder on a stick. This
is
a
low cost screen reading alternative for those that may not be able to
afford
the more expensive products. After RJ's presentation we bring him on
Main
Menu Live to talk with us and you can call in and ask your own questions
of
RJ.

Darrell and I will do a brief tech round up for the week. We have news
about a JAWS update that is now available, the new PodNova podcatching
desktop client, and much more.

The number to call into the show is 866-400-5333. You can also email
your
questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Coming up on Main Menu and Main Menu Live for the week of April4th, 2007

2007-04-03 Thread Brent Harding
That's it. Rick Harmon did a review, and it's looking like NVDA is probably
the better of the free choices right now. The major drawbacks I recall are
too much verbosity for a more advanced user and the fact it takes over a
minute to load the site into the virtual buffer for blindcooltech.com and
any other big site on a 3 gig pentium. I will probably test that myself on
my machine, it could be an interaction with other software he has in the
background making it slow.

Hi.

You might try a different game to see if it works. Some games stream
silence for several minutes before you hear something.

Re: JAWS Scripts for Skype

2007-04-03 Thread Jana Jackson
Hi! For some reason, I'm not able to download these scripts. I just
started using Internet Explorer 7 last week, so I'm not sure if something
has changed. When I try to download the scripts, I get the message that
Internet Explorer has encountered an error and needs to close. Any ideas as
to what could be wrong? I don't think I've ever encountered this before.
Thanks!

Same exact deal here with my wife seeing the same thing that yours sees. I
didn't subscribe to Gameday Audio last season due to chronic audio problems.
Maybe I should have stuck with that decision.

Hi Kevin and thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I've tried both

I've never had any trouble streaming any other audio and my firewall isn't

a couple questins regarding gameday audio and choosing a player?

2007-04-03 Thread Larry N
Ok, let me try getting at this from another angle. I'm told that you can
choose a player for gameday audio. Where do you do that and can it be done
with a screen reader? Second, I've seen a discussion on this list concerning
running a Gameday Audio broadcast through the use of Windows Media keyboard
commands, but I'm not getting how it's done. All I know is that when I click
on a game, I'm landed in the MLB player and can't get anywhere from there
through the use of tabs and shiftTabs as one person suggested. So, if
someone could help me out here, I'd appreciate it. Once I'm dumped in the
player with no audio, how do I access WMP keyboard commands?

Re: a couple questins regarding gameday audio and choosing a player?

2007-04-03 Thread Dean Martineau
I will try here to provide a summary of all that is known about
accessing GameDay Audio. I'm answering a couple private queries and
a list all at once. Remember as I go through this that there are
several ways of accomplishing something in Windows.

First, it is my experience so far that the system works. When I
don't get audio, it has been because I wasn't signed in, even though
sometimes I thought I was. Beyond that, I can't help with the no
audio problem.

Here's what I know.

the link to get you straight to the Multimedia Center, where audio
links are found, is this:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mediacenter/index.jsp

I tend to do this backwards. I go to the game, knowingly get no
sound, sign in, then refresh the media player page. So to get to the
game, the easiest way is to search for the radio station that carries
the game. You can also use table navigation to peruse the available
games. the station will be a link, activating it will bring up the
media player, but you won't hear anything yet.

At this point, alt-tab back to the media center and use the links
list to pull up Register - Login. When you reach this page, find the
fields for email address and password. the system seems to retain
nothing between sessions, so enter those. You'll then get to the
member info page. Now alt-tab back to the media player and hit F5 to
refresh it. Shortly, you'll hear sound, unless you're in a
commercial break for one of the networks that silences them.

thanks to Kelly Ford, we now know that if you're using windows Media
Player 11, and perhaps earlier editions, you can control the volume
of the stream independent of the synthesizer using windows Media
Player keystrokes. to do this, turn off your screen reader's
special web navigation mode, whatever it is called. For JAWS users,
hit insert-z, window-Eyes users, shift-Ctrl-a. Now shift-tab until
you hear something like "unnamed-20." Now, experiment. with WMP 11,
F8 lowers the volume and F9 raises it. In WmP10, F9 and F10 are the
lower and raise keystrokes. You may or may not need to use your
screen readers pass through or bypass key; I didn't have to do so
with JAWS 8.

I'm sure many will correct this post, and as I say, one can do things
in a different order than I do them, but I'm trying to answer several
questions in one post.

Re: Soundforge: jaws reads time annoyance

2007-04-03 Thread Mac Norins
Damon,

Did Ken's explanation work for you? If it didn't, I may have a fix for you,
that will work, but, I need to get permission from the person who gave me
the info, first! More later!

Subject: Soundforge: jaws reads time annoyance

Hi.

In sound forge, when I hit spacebar and listen to the audio I've got loaded
up, JAWS keeps reading out the time progress. It obliterates the sound of
the audio so I can't listen to it properly.

I hear my audio in the background with jaws saying "zero zero zero 9
seconds, zero 1 zero seconds, zero one three seconds, zero zero" etc.

I've done an insert-S to turn screen echo to none .. but it still continues.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stop jaws doing this?

I've got jaws 8 and I'm running soundforge 4.5 at the moment tho it also
happens at work with jaws 5, jaws 6 jaws 7 and soundforge 6.

Appreciated.

Any short term get-arounds also appreciated.

...Damon

RE: Soundforge: jaws reads time annoyance

2007-04-03 Thread Kelly Ford
Do you have scripts for Sound Forge installed. I know this is a feature of
scripts for this program. Press ins+q and see what scripts are loaded. If
Sound Forge scripts are loaded, press ins+h and there should be
instructions.

Also make sure that screen echo is set to highlighted by toggling through
the ins+s settings.

Re: a couple questins regarding gameday audio and choosing a player?

2007-04-03 Thread Larry N
Hmm, guess I'm the od man out here. I'm following instructions to the
letter, but still no audio. Also, when in the player with Jaws 8.0 and
pressing insertZ, then shift tabbing, the address of the player is spoken
but nothing more. I'm not hearing what I'm supposed to hear in order to
adjust volume with WMP. Then again, I have no volume to adjust. LOL. So, I'm
back to the drawing board it seems.

Thanks.

Re: APE

2007-04-03 Thread Steve Pattison
I can't remember but Winamp has been able to play .APE files for the
last three or four years or so. However I think you need to install
the Monkeys Audio program available from www.monkeysaudio.com. It
has been a long time since I installed it but from what I remember
when you install Monkeys Audio you are also given the option of
installing the Winamp plug-in so you can play .APE files using Winamp.
