Hi Norma, actually there are some great keyboard shortcuts in Media
Center.
Windows+ALT+Enter will take you into the main Media Center menu.
Windows+ALT+Control+T
will get you to My TV and Control+o gets you to Recorded TV. Control+G
gets you to the guide. You can activate those radio buttons simply by
selecting the one you want and pressing Enter. I love my Media Center
and watch a lot more TV because of it.

Subject: Re: Got a new computer, need xp media center advice

Hi Rob,

Here are some instructions I had prepared for another person who wanted
to know about recording with the Media Center: HTH Norma

When you enter on Media Center, you will land in a list which looks
similar to this:My Music, Radio, HP Image Zone, HP Tunes, more programs,
settings, Play DVD, Online spotlight, my videos and my TV. If you hit
enter while on "MY TV" it will take you to a set of buttons, which are
Live TV, Recorded TV, Guide, Search and Movies. To schedule a program
to record, enter on recorded TV, then hit schedule. Now you are in a
list which includes radio buttons to select by date or by title. To
activate these buttons, you need to click with the right mouse button.
Doing this will bring up further options which are pretty much self
explanatory.
Do you have your cable or satellite TV coaxial cable going directly into
your Media Center? If not, when you schedule something to record, you
will have to make sure that your cable or satellite box is tuned to the
channel you need to record from. If you have your coaxial going
directly into your media center, you will be fine. Regarding the guide
section, you should be able to arrow up and down and look at what
programs are currently running and I think you should be able to look up
to 14 days ahead but I'm not sure.
I know you can schedule a recording up to 14 days in advance. A cool
thing about the guide is if your cable or satellite is wired directly
into your MC, you can just hit enter on a program in the guide and the
program will come up on your TV. I love this feature.

Re: Edirol R-09

2006-11-02 Thread Gary G Schindler
Hi Pam, ask someone for sure that owns the r-09 for sure, but from what I
recall,
when you are in the opening screen menu, the last file you recorded is
highlighted
at the bottom of the list. files are sequentially numbered, so to move to a
previously recorded file, you up arrow to it. once you know for certain which
file
is highlighted hit the record button to select it. hit the up arrow for play to
make sure it is the file you want to delete. hit the down arrow to stop the
file
from playing. hit the menu finder quickly, wait a couple of seconds, arrow down
three times and hit the record button. the file should be gone. someone correct
me
if I am wrong.

Hi:

You can also obtain the latest version of the plugin from my server at:
ftp.compuconference.com

Just navigate to Winamp stuff and download the plugin.

Cheers.

Currently, I'm looking at no less than $400. Is that correct?

Just copy the plugin in to your c:\program files\winamp\plugins dirrectory.

Rename or move the in_mp3.dll file and you are all set.

Re: Edirol R-09

2006-11-02 Thread Bob Nelson
Peter,

I bought my Edirol R09 from Digifishmusic.com in Adelaide.

If I remember correctly, the after sales service was to return the R09 to
them if there was a problem in the first 30 days and after that, take the
R09 to Edirol. That is not a problem because Edirol/Roland has a
significant presence in Australia.

I suggest that you send an e-mail to Scott Fisher of Digifishmusic.com and
get a price from him. If you mention that you are blind, he will go out of
his way to be helpful to you

The e-mail address is:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

The internet link is

http://www.oztion.com.au/vshops/vshops.aspx?shopid=498

On the other hand, you could save $100 or more by purchasing from someone in
the states who is reliable. For example, Jerry Richer or the Sound
Professionals. However, before you do that, make sure to contact
Edirol/Roland in Australia to verify that they will service the unit if you
import it.

A simple google search will locate the Australian Edirol web page with the
contact details.

RE: Edirol R-09

2006-11-02 Thread Pam Drake
Steve, that's great! I'm going to take this with me this week.

Pam

There is also a good audio description by a person who has used the Edirol
successfully by reading the display with her Optacon. My old Optie isn't as
sharp as it was but maybe I'll try it myself too. This person does discuss
her chosen settings.

I doubt this is off topic because the Edirol is so usable by the blind that
it's almost customized, and it's the best off-the-shelf recorder we've had
in a long, long while. It's not pc-based but it's definitely accessible
audio. The data can be uploaded to a pc anyway, so I think that, if nothing
else, would qualify it.

Also I hope the company is getting some feedback from us blind users so that

Re: Edirol R-09

2006-11-02 Thread Jerry Richer
Peter, I just spoke with Roland USA. They tell me that any Warranty
work would have to be done in the United States. The guy I spoke with
didn't sound like he was making up an answer either. After the unit is out
of warrantee their should be no problem getting it serviced in Australia. I
just had an R-1 that was purchased in the United States serviced in Canada
where the customer had taken it.

Re: Edirol R-09

2006-11-02 Thread Jerry Richer
Casey, others will have a lot more to say about this but basically the
R-09: is half the size of the R-1 and uses Secure Digital cards instead of
Compact Flash.
The other differences are really technical things that most users
wouldn't appreciate.
It's kind of a moot point though because the R-1 was discontinued when
the R-09 was released.

Re: the MAD plugin

2006-11-02 Thread Dana S. Leslie
But, I discovered that, if you do remove or rename the in_mp3.dll file, you
can no longer play .aac files. This surprises me, as .aac, I believe, is an
implementation of the MPEG4 standard, not the MPEG3 standard. And, as I have
ripped all my CDs to .aac 192KPBS, and have few actual MP3 files on my
computer, I think I'm not going to stick with the MAD plug-in, after all.
MP3 at 128kpbs is quite sucky, and I would be glad to be able to improve my
MP3 playback. But not at the expense of disabling my .aac 192kbps playback,
which is quite excellent.

Blessed Be,

Dana

Yes, this is what I have also heard regarding the Sound Blaster cards. This
is why I ordered a Tascam US122l. Hopefully, that will suffice until I can
afford something better.

Sound Blaster is not recommended by a lot of amateur and professional
musicians and audio people. Two popular names are Edirol and M-Audio.

John,

There are several places in the UK where you can buy the R-09, and Google
should be able to help you out in this respect. However, if you want to buy
direct from Edirol, go to

http://www.edirol.co.uk

They have a secure site for ordering, and I believe you may also be able to
order over the phone if you prefer. Contact details taken from the web

Here's how I do it: I search for the file to be deleted with the forward
and backward button, then I play a little bit of it and stop. I briefly
press the finder button to go to the finder, this is like Windows
explorer. The last played file is selected. I press enter on it, now I'm
in a list of possible operations like rename. I press down twice to
go to the delete option. I press the record button (enter) twice and
this deletes the file. I think, that one has to press the finder button
again to leave the finder.

How can I get radio stations to open with the proper playhers

2006-11-02 Thread Joe
Hi, I'm new to this group. I posted this before but I guess no one else ever
had this problem but I'll try asking again in case there's any one new that
didn't see it. Why does my PC. sometimes fail to choose the correct player
when I click on a listenlive link to play some radio stations? My old Pc. did
that just fine with Windows Me. Is XP. more restrictive for something like
this. If any one can help me, I appreciate it. Thanks. Joe.

Gary, Michael, , and Rick ,

Thanks for the deletion instructions. Now I think I can really get a lot of
use out of this machine.

I may end up putting up a homepage yet for all these personal recordings!

It does not seem to be as blind friendly as the Edirol R-09: According
to the manual, one has to use the menu to switch between automatic and
manual record level control. And somebody at taperssection.com wrote,
that the machine needs more than 20 seconds to power up.
