But, I discovered that, if you do remove or rename the in_mp3.dll file, you can no longer play .aac files. This surprises me, as .aac, I believe, is an implementation of the MPEG4 standard, not the MPEG3 standard. And, as I have ripped all my CDs to .aac 192KPBS, and have few actual MP3 files on my computer, I think I'm not going to stick with the MAD plug-in, after all. MP3 at 128kpbs is quite sucky, and I would be glad to be able to improve my MP3 playback. But not at the expense of disabling my .aac 192kbps playback, which is quite excellent.
