Hi, gang! Well, in my never-ending quest for blind-friendly, cheap players that let you play wma/drm files, I think I've hit a jackpot. I was at a book group the other day, and someone pulled out a little description of a device that might work for blind folks. Yup, the Tinker Bell Mix Stick may just have saved one of my deay! It's really designed for the kiddos, but who cares? It's not supposed to have a screen at all, has big buttons, and you can get an SD card to expand memory, since it comes with only 128 meg of memory. Anyone know anything about this thing? Oh, it's supposed to sell for $50 or so. Scotty, do be nice to Doc! Smile/chortle/guffaw! RE: accessible Dj software
Hi Don. I just got home yesterday, so didn't see your message until now. I use OTS DJ for my broadcast on ACBRI. It does a nice job of cross fading, and it's search function is very nice. It does cost several hundred dollars, though. Winamp does have the ability to cross fade with a plugin. I don't know where you get it, but I suspect that it's on the Winamp web site. Winamp does have the plus that it's free if you don't want the extra features of the pro version. As far as how you organize your files, that's personal preference. I have mine in one folder, and use Ots DJ to search for my music. Hope this is helpful. Hi: Loads of speaker sets have secondary inputs on them. I have a set of Klipsch promedia 2.1's, which are rather nice. They have a control pod with two 1/8th inch inputs. RE: the tinker bell mix stick with full link added + write up
http://blog.tmcnet.com/blog/tom-keating/gadgets/disney-mix-stick-mp3-player. asp Disney Mix Stick MP3 player September 29, 2005 Disney launched their own contender to the Apple iPod MP3 player with an MP3 player of their own called the Disney Mix Stick MP3 Player. Disney Mix Stick MP3 players support both MP3 and WMA and are designed to download music files, copy from CDs, as well as accommodate memory cards, called Mix Clips, that feature pre-recorded music from Walt Disney Records. Disney Mix Sticks have a storage capacity of 128MB (about 60 songs), and use USB 2.0 for connectivity. The MP3 players also feature an SD/MMC card slot for as much as 1GB of storage. "Digital music is exploding and is ready to take off with kids," Chris Heatherly, Disney Electronics vice president, said in a statement. "The Disney Mix Stick-Mix Clips combination is the perfect way for kids to get started with digital music because it's easier to use than players that can only be used with a PC, and it is just as capable." The Mix Clip memory cards carry full-length albums from Walt Disney Records and since they are standard SD/MMC cards, they are compatible with computers, cellular phones and other devices. The MP3 players are scheduled to ship in mid-October to major retailers and are expected to sell for around $49. The Mix Clips will be offered separately costing about the same as CDs. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Bob Batchelor Sent: Saturday, August 05, 2006 8:35 AM To: 'PC audio discussion list. realtek sound card
Hi all, Please bear with me here. I am not technical! I just bought a new pentium4 computer and it has onboard a realtek sound card. I'd never heard of this before, and don't know much about it. I just wondered if anyone else has one of these and could get back to me? The volume control works differently to what I'm use too, eg. (when ajusting playback, in properties, you click on "ajust volume for "realtek HD audio output" and for recording, there is " realtek HD digital input" or just "realtek HD input" and they're the three mixing devices in volume control. When I click on the plain HD input thing, I get "recording volume", then all these other checkboxes for Mic, vidio, CD, line in, etc (which can all be selected together or not), but no actual individual volumes for any of them. all I get is "mute" checkboxes. However, when I go to ajust the "realtek digital input" I just get an option for "spdif" which i have no idea what that is. and jaws doesn't speak at all in this single control unless I go into jaws cursor. I only then have the option to mute or unmute it. (these are the only options I get even when I go to select the options I want to show up in those mixer devices). The playback (or "realtek output" does actually have individual volume controls but no mic option (like I'm use too). This card has surround sound capabilities, but I have got a new 2.5 (I think it's referred to as) system. When I unplug and plug in jacks, an information message tells me this and then I have to select which device I just plugged in (whether it be headphones, microphone,) etc. How come it does this? Can I possibly turn this off and have it automatically detect them? Sorry all for the ramble. I'm just not use to this and I want to go back to being simple! Lol Oh I did try and research this on the net but didn't find out much. Thanks for any help or advice. Cheers! :) -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hi, Found ut you have a choice from 4 styles The Disney Mix Sticks come in one of four styles: That's So Raven, Disney Chrome, Forever Princess and Tinker Bell. Personally, I will try to not get either Forever Princess or Tinker Bell. . Either That's So Raven, and Disney Chrome, sounds alright. 8/5/2006 -0400, you wrote: >Hi, gang! Off topic. About windows
I am using a stand-alone computer. But when I installed this Encarta program, the user log-in dialog appears every time windows starts asking me to enter the password of the administrator account. How can I set my computer back from its setting that it just uses the administrator account and I don't need to type my password? I mean, it just goes directly to the desktop unlike now that it doesn't. Hope my question is clear and I'm sorry for this off topic problem. Because I'm having a hard time dealing to this kind of setting because the JAWS doesn't talk when the dialog appears. I don't want my JAWS start automatically. Re: realtek sound card
I am familiar with this chip. It is an onboard chip in many of the new boards and is quite popular now. The only problem with it is that it is not very accessible when it comes to working with recording with different kinds of devices. I have the same chip on my board. I elected to go with a turtle beach riviera sound card, and then finally to a sound blaster live 24 bit card. I am by far happiest with the soundblaster. I would recommend that you consider doing the same when you can and if you wish. Otherwise, I will try to help you figure out your sound as best I can. If you wish, send your contact info to me off list and I will try to help you troubleshoot. Re: scheduling of total recorder?
Ok, here is how to make total Recorder version 6.0 (though the same principle will work on earlier versions,) save recordings based on the name of the show and the date. this is not the only procedure to accomplish what we want, but it is the one I use. In TR, you can set a default file name rule for your recordings, and you can customize it, or use a completely different rule, for each individual recording. In my life, I only use TR to do what we're trying to do, so I'll make my default rule contain most of the elements we want so it will be easy to add the program name on each scheduled program. First, let's set the default rule. We'll make a default rule template that just contains the month and date. From the main screen, go to the options menu, and choose the first option, Settings. You are placed in a tree view of possible categories, and you land where you last visited. the File Names section is the seventh one, so arrow down to get there. Once there, tab. the first control you come to is a list of existing rules. We'll leave the default in place and use the first item, 'Rules not using file tag,' since we're just going to create a new rule anyway. The next control is a read-only box that shows what file name the durrent rule will yield. Ignore it now, but it will come in handy later to check your creation. Next we come to the 'new' button. Shortcut keys appear not to work here, so tabbing to get here is the only way to access the button. We could use the 'edit' button to edit the existing rule, but it's easier to just create a new one, so hit space on that 'new' button. >with the 'File Name Generation Rule' dialog open, you are first >given a chance to name the rule. This is mandatory, so use a name >you like. the next control is the name template, which is the heart >of the operation. the template can contain text and place holders, >called fields, in any combination. Our template will be simple, >just containing two fields. We pick fields from a list. the list >is the second control from the template; the next one being the >chance to put a file path into your template. so tab to the 'insert >field into template' listbox. there are 20 possible fields. In the >example, 'tony and dale show/01/08/06the '08" would fill the >'currmonth' field, the '01' would fill the 'currday' field (assuming >the date meant 1 August and not Jan. 8,) and the '06' the 'curryear' >field. Arrow through the list to explore it, or hit c to get to the >'currday' field. Tab and accept the number of digits, presumably >2. Next is a set of two radio buttons; with the top one chosen, >your field will be inserted into the template; with the bottom one, >it overwrites the current contents of the template. Next, There is >an edit spin box that lets you decrease the number you've inserted >into the template. For instance, today is the 5th, and if I put a >three in that box, the current date of the recording would show as >02. Keep tabbing to the 'insert' button, which comes before the >'ok' button in the dialog. Once you press the 'insert' button, you've inserted your first bield into the template. As you tab around again, you see that the template is now populated. Depending on the field you're inserting, it can be most cumbersome to read the template, so just make sure you're at the end of it and continue on to the list of fields. We repeat this pattern for the 'currmonth' and 'curryear' fields to follow the desired example. (I prefer the 'currmonthname' field in my file names.) When all is done, the ok button is the default button in the dialog, so you don't have to tab to it, you can just hit enter. tab to the ok button and this part of the process is set. If you're going to do a lot of scheduling, it will save you some typing. Now we want to schedule our program, n the desired example, Tony and Dale show. From the main TR screen, hit alt-t, l to go into the schedule dialog, and since shortcut keys work in here, hit alt-n to create a New schedule item. I won't go over this part here, so fill in what is needed. Tab many times. Just past the 'normalization' button is a set of radio buttons determining how the name will be generated. Auto-create is the default, and you want it. Tab and note that the current template is wrong. We'll fix it. Tab to the Rules button and hit space to open the dialog. What we do in here is a little weird, but it works. You land on a set of two radio buttons, inviting you to either use a name rule or a private rule, For the moment, leav 'name rule' active and tab to the list of rules. the one you created will be at the bottom, so highlight it. Now shift-tab and down arrow, so that 'private rule' is in force. Tab to the 'copy from name rule' button and hit space. Nothing will appear to happen, but in fact our template has now been populated with our rule. Tab to the change button
