Chris, In the skype software, itself, have you selected the headset as your input and output devices? Chris, As far as your not hearing yourself when you call echo123: if you have the same Logitech headset I do, there is a round disc-shaped control dangling from the plug-in chord? The button on this control is a toggle on/off for the mic. There's no non-visual way to tell whether it's toggled on or off. It suddenly occurred to me , that, maybe, the reason you don't hear yourself on echo123 is that you have this control toggled off. Try toggling it, and see if you hear yourself on echo123. This toggle control is the one thing I hate about my headset. It's always getting toggled by accident, and, of course, I don't realize that until I place a call and the party can't hear me, though I can hear them. Hope this IS your problem, as it's the easiest to track down and fix. BTW, if you find the headset shouting or whispering at you, the easiest place to adjust this is on the Voice tab of Sounds and Audio Devices, in control Panel. Finally, if you decide you want JAWS, and everything else besides your skype calls, to come through your speakers, not the headset (That's the way I prefer it.), let me know, and I'll give you the instructions on editing jwf.ini, so that the headset does not steal away the output of eloquence, every time you reboot your computer. volume and hiss issues
Dear PC-listers, I'm not yet sure what the category of problem is, so I'll give you the symptoms. As a couple of days ago, my computer speakers have developed slightly more hiss than is normal. More annoyingly, the volume of my Winamp and WMP media has gone way down. I think my Eloquence volume is lower, too, but it's hard to tell. Along with the overall lowering of volume has come a slight background hiss. Anyone have any suggestions to pin this down or fix it? I have a Creative Sound Blaster sound card. Hi, If you have the windows power toy called send to, that makes the entire process considerably easier. Simply open a file in note pad. Select the file in question, press context menu, select send to, and then you'll have clipboard as content and clipboard as name. Choose the as name option, press enter, and then the name of the file, including full path name, is in the clipboard. Alt tab to your open notepad document, and press control v and then a space. Boom, the file is now in the playlist. repeat until completed. have you checked the output from your sound card with either another set of speakers or some headphones? this will at least let you know if it is the speakers you're currantly using. There are many applications that will lower your volume from time to time for no obvious reason. Did you not read? I did. No success. Like I said I am returning it, because WMP, realplayer, and my computer (it comes up as a flash drive) don't do any good. And, to add to that, the files are on the player, yet they don't play. But really, if you can transfer files to a player using other programs, would it say that in the book? yes! Maybe this has already been suggested, but why not convert mp3 to wav, then burn to cda, or her burner. At least the decompression step of the process would have been taken care of before the burn. USB headset now works, sort of!
Hi all! Thanks for the suggestions on how to get the USB headset going. I followed your suggestions and it works just as it should. However, it's not automatic, meaning that when I unplug the headset and plug it back in, skype doesn't see the headset and I have to keep going into the options and manually set it to the Logitech USB headset. This is good for when I call someone, but when someone calls me and I don't have it plugged in, you can see what a hastle this could be. Is there anyway to get skype to just automatically see the USB headset and just start using that without me having to manually switch it to that? making audio (mp3) cds
Ok, guys, (and gals) :) the best overall software to use with making mp3s into audio cds is one called Acoustica MP3 CD Burner and the reason is, that software can make the difference in what spacing you want between tracks E.G. no spacing, (even with blending the sound just a little so if there is a gap it can be made right) to one second, 2 seconds, etc. I bought the software and use it all the time with window-eyes, and it can be made to work with jfw as well. As in all software using speech, there is always a trade off to accessibility in some aspect of the program, so diligence and sticking with learning what the software can do, pays off, especially with this Acoustica MP3 CD Burner software. It will rip cds for you as well if you wish, it will make mp3 cds for you also. I have found that, since I have some live concerts recorded in mp3 format, that using winamp to play them always makes for a choppy performance since winamp in it's native configuration puts gaps in between the tracks, as does Nero when burning to a cd burner. Acoustica MP3 CD Burner does not. so it is worth giving a look see anyway. hi. I don't use eloquence, so that's not really an issue. I use a dectalk express part of the time, and dec-talk access 32 software speech for most of my time, so there would need to be a way to keep the software speech through the sound card and skype going through the headset. I suppose i could always switch over to dec-talk express. Well, there may be some way to force the DECTalk software speech to use the card driving your desktop speakers, just as there is a way to force Eloquence to do this. But, as I don't know anything about DECTalk's software speech, you'll have to get directions on that from someone else. But, at least, I think, that is the question you need answered. BTW, if you're using JAWS, why don't you use eloquence? If all else fails, I suppose, you could switch to it. Then, the solution to your problem would be to do exactly as I'm doing. Premere CD Creator
Does anyone know how to use the Premiere CD Creator Program with Jaws. I went to the help topics and I can't find anything about what hot keys to use in order to make an audio CD. I also can't figure out how to Add files to the list view. If anyone knows where I can get the information regarding this please let me know. Also, does anyone know if you can copy CD's with this program. I don't see anything about this. Thanks for any help that you might be able to give me with this. I've been in touch with them by phone but have not gotten a call back yet. When you're in the record disk dialog, one of the options you'll see under help is a list of hot keys, which can itself be accessed via control+F1. Among these is the F8 key, which adds a track. Chris, The following is taken from my JFW.INI file. Even though you're not using Eloquence, I imagine your jfw.ini must have lines analogous to the first three lines below, setting the DECTalk software synthesizer as your primary synthesizer. If so, I'm guessing, you can also add a line analogous to the fourth line below, forcing the software synthesizer to output through the named device. I don't imagine, at least, that it would hurt to try doing so. If you want to try this, be sure to reproduce the spacing in the fourth line exactly, and to use the exact name of your desired output device (in place of mine), with exact spacing and case. After you've saved the edit, exit and restart JAWS, and see if it works, even after a reboot.' Hi, You wrote to ask whether anyone on the list is using Premier CD Creator. I use Premier CD Creator 2. Once it opens, you have several buttons from which to choose, including create an audio CD. After you've selected that button, you have some additional options: You do an F8 to add files; Control+F8 to delete them. Control+D moves a file down in your list; Control+U moves it up. F6 starts the actual writing process. If you open the file menu, these options are spelled out for you. There doesn't seem to be any way to copy a CD. If this is the 15th reply you got to this question, my apologies to you and the list. I normally look at everything else that came in to see whether someone else already handled this; I just got all excited about firing off a reply because, for once, this was something I actually knew something about! The program also doesn't appear to import cue sheets, and while it can output an OGG Vorbis file, it can't use it for input. It allows for no input from lossless-compression files like FLAC. I wanted to give the program another chance so I installed the demo again, but still feel, in fact more than ever, that the program is hugely overpriced and underfeatured. You didn't mention you knew that WMP and realplayer supported it, you just stated that I was dumb and stupid because I wasn't smart enough to realize that I couldn transfer files with realplayer or WMP. If your not going to be smart with me, can you tell me how to transfer files using WMP (or realplayer, I can get it if I need it)? Do I need a plug-in or anything? If the program were 20 bucks or so yes, POSSIBLY. But to pay sixty bucks to be led by the hand and dissuaded from venturing out on your own and realizing the full potential of the CD equipment I think is not the way to go. Yes, we need software specifically designed for us in some instances. But if off-the-shelf software does a better job, for less money, and is still very accessible, I have a hard time justifying paying more for less for a user with any level of experience. hi. What I've decided to do is to just switch to my dec-talk express since that's a hardware synthesizer, and won't effect the sound card at all. I do like the dec-talk access 32 software speech though, so it's what i use most of the time when i'm online. but it's very easy for me to switch synths, pick up my headset and answer the skype call. so that's fine. Hello, Could someone on this list point me to a comprehensive, reliable, and accessible data base for recorded music, especially material from the sixties and earlier. What I hope to do is to plug in the name of an artist along with one or more song titles and find out on what albums these songs are available. In the days of dos telnet, there were several such services, one particularly in the South Bay area near San Jose California. On a related note, I would like to be able to plug in the name of an album along with the name of the artist and obtain a list of tracks on that particular album. I've got Nero 6 Ultra from their website. It said something about downloading two packages in order to use it. I don't have the serial number for it. I'm not sure if those versions are the trial versions or not. Since I don't have a serial number for those versions I haven't been able to install it. Weird Sounds Coming ThroughSystem when using Roxio 6.2 and JAWS 5.1?S
Hello List! Recently, I began hearing a weird sound from my system--only when I burn CD's with Roxio 6.2. What happens is that, while the burn process is going on, each time JAWS trys to read some data, the sound card goes wild, all gittery, deep-sounding, and slow (like a big bump deep sound, and sometimes light sounding; yet the burn process goes through all right. When I turn off the JAWS (either chosing, none or unload jaws), the sound is no longer there. When I have it set for all or highlight, or if I access JAWS in any way, the sound is there again. It is annoying to say the least. Does anyone know what is going on. I ran the JAWS repair utility twice, but the same process comes back. What is going on? the only thing I can think of doing is install a router, but I can't see how that could do it. I still don't see any sign of the router installation. Have I damaged my system. If anyone sounds, do let me know.
