real player 10 and total recorder conflict
hi again. i previously posted an email re the problem i'm having scheduling a stream to record with total recorder professional which needs to play through real player 10. i was hoping that someone may have either experienced this issue or may have a sollution as to how to resolve this conflict, as i can't get anything to stream with real player when i try to schedule the stream with total recorder, but i am able to both schedule and thus record successfully with all other players. any help would be very muchly appreciated. thanks. marco. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Is mp3 Trim accessible?
Hello, I'm interested in mp3 Trim, because I heard that it can trim the beginning and end of a file, and possibly the middle parts, as well as normalize the file, without reencoding. If I have the features of this program correctly, will it normalize a batch of files all at once? Thanks a lot. Matthew Tired of HotMail? Try Runbox. 1 gig of storage for a reasonable price. I have used this program. I have been able to trim beginning and end of a batch of files and normalise in one process. It is supposed to be able to play the files. Haven't worked out that one yet. The program is too bloody expensive - around $80 us when I purchased. But it does exactly what it says it will do. Using Nero burning rom
Hello everyone, Could someone please explain to me, how to use Nero burning rom? Or point me in the direction, of some help files? I have version 6. I'm using Jaws 5.1, and windows XP. I'm trying to copy a CD, but I can't figure out how to do it. I've tried several times now. Once, I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not. When I first start the program, with the CD in my CDRom drive that I want to copy, I get asked which recorder I want to use. And I only have one option, which is some virtual recorder. Is this normal? Then I somehow managed to get into the Nero wizard, though I now couldn't tell you how I did it. Anyway, I followed that wizard, but I ended up making some image, and that's not what I want. Besides copying a cd, I'm also interested in burning some. So if someone could describe how to do that as well, then I'd appreciate it. Any help you all can give, will be quite helpful. Thank you, Terri ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

can you email me the steps you used? DVD Delimma
Hi All, Well, I haven't messed with DVD's yet, but I've decided now's the time. So, where do I start. I have the following questions. 1. Is it better and easier to simplay play DVD's on the computer since you already have the screenreader, and how well does the screenreader work with them? 2. If using the computer, which software is best? Windows Media player, Winamp, or some other one? 3. If not using the computer, which of the portable or stereo component ones are the most accessable. I want to be able to burn and play cd's, mp3's, wma's and as many type of audio files as possible. Plus, of course, playing DVD movies and concerts. I already have a DVD drive and CD-RW drive as well as Jaws on my computer. So if I purchase a separate unit I want to get the most practical one possible. All advice will be greatly appreciated. Portable Audio Player
Hi All, I know I want the moon and stars, but I'm looking to purchase a portable audio player that will do the following: record and play books from Audible, BookShare and NLS; play mp3 and other types of music files. I'd like at least a gig of memory, if it has permanent storage. However, in many ways those that use memory cards are better because you are not limited and you can put different types of material on different cards even using a card for self-help type books and a different card for recreational reading and still other cards for jazz, classical and so forth. I know I won't find the perfect player out there, but I'd like to get the most features for my money. I have even considered the PlexTalk, but although that gives me some additional capabilities, it's awfully pricey. Any recommendations??? Re: Using Nero burning rom
Terri, I just installed Nero, and have yet to burn my first cd with the program. However, I think you said that you are using a cdrom drive. Is this the only drive you have, or do you have a cd burner. You will never be able to copy one cd to another without a cd burner. At this point, don't know what the virtual drive you refer to might be. The help files are actually quite easy to use. You should be able to go to help either by pressing the F1 key, or going to the help menus, and there you will find a tree view of the contents. If you are using Window-Eyes, and this probably applies to JAWS as well, press enter on any of the options, and then press F6, and then you will be in the body of the appropriate help file, and your screen reader should read the help entries just fine. The help appears to be contextual, which means that you should be able to press F1 on any highlighted option, and you will receive information on that option. At 11:21 AM 11/11/2004, you wrote: Hello everyone, Could someone please explain to me, how to use Nero burning rom? RE: Portable Audio Player
Hi, Kris. Have a look at the Bookport http://sun1.aph.org/tech/bp_info.htm It will record audio, though with a low quality microphone, and play books from Audible, BookShare and NLS; It'll also play mp3, though the only other type of music files it plays are WAV. It will not play OGG or WMA. It comes with 64 MB of memory, but cards of up to 2 gigabytes are available for anything from $10 to $160 or so. I've seen 2 GB cards for around $140, but this has been on special. It uses compact flash memory. I think that answers all your question. I wouldn't use the recording features of the machine, BTW, for anything more than notes or short memos that don't have to be of high quality. If you want a good recorder, you should probably get the Archos or Iriver mainstream MP3 players, but these won't play books from Bookshare, Audible, or NLS. HTH. Re: Using Nero burning rom
Hi Terri. The problem you're having with Nero is that it is not recognising your burner. That is why it is presenting you with the virtual recorder and why you only create images when you attempt to burn a CD. If you've downloaded Nero you probably won't be able to get to the help system from the program itself. This seems a rather strange omission by Ahead. There is comprehensive help and tutorials on their website. However, your problem is generally only cured by downloading the latest version of the 6.6 release. Ahead put a new release up every week or two which as a minimum will have the latest burners that it will support. Is your burner new? It certainly would have to be very new for 6.6 not to support it. Re: Windows Media Player question
Hi Matthew. To change the settings for ripped music using windows media player do the following: 1. Start windows media player. 2. Press alt + T to open the Tools menu. 3. Arrow up to Options and press enter. 4. You will now be in a multi-tab dialogue. Locate the ripping tab. 5. To change the output folder, tab to the change button and press enter. 6. Select the folder in the normal windows manner and tab to ok, pressing spacebar to confirm your change. 7. Tab to ok and press spacebar to close the options dialogue. You can also change the way in which the output track file name is made up in this dialogue. For example, you may choose track number separated with a dash and then track name. There are a host of combinations here. You can also select MP3 format or WMA. Interestingly, there's a lossless WMA format here. I ripped a CD with this and though it was nearly 300MB in size, it sounded very good. However, the next CD I ripped using this format was not acceptable as the start of each track was garbaged so back to CDEX for me. re creative muvo
Hi list, I need a good samaritan. I have just bought a creative mp3 player, but so far, have failed to transfer any files in to it. I have put in the software, and my computer recognises it as a drive, but does not recognise that there is a mp3 file on it, which there is. it comes with a demo file, and i can play this if i use the player not plugged in to my computer. this player is the 128 megabyte player. the copy files instructions are written for a sighted person, and are mouse oriented using drag and drop. I tried first to do the transfer through the clipboard, and it didn't work. i received an error message, saying the the player couldn't find the specified file, although it named the file concerned. it asked that i checked the path and name of the file. I found this rather strange, as i hadn't typed in the name of the file, so how did it know what file it couldn't find. I then tried to use the drag and drop method, which can be done with wineyes, which is my screen reader. i got the same result. i then made a drag and drop transfer between two of my other drives, just to make sure that i had the method correct. i did four transfers, and they worked perfectly. If anyone out there is familiar with this particular player, i would be glad of his help. My son, who has the advantage of being able to see, couldn't transfer any files to it either. if anyone can help please do. i am using windows xp. brian. ___ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Is mp3 Trim accessible?
Hi Matthew. MP3TRIM is accessible and is able to trim beginning and end of MP3 tracks without re-encoding. It can normalise but I would recommend MP3GAIN over MP3TRIM for this any day. You can't actually trim out part of the track but you could decide that you wished to trim off 2 or 3 minutes of a track if it were at the beginning or end for example. You can trim using time or frames. What you need to bear in mind is that there are 3 flavours of MP3TRIM: Freeware: cannot do batches of files. You can only process one file at a time and it must be less than 5MB in size. Personal: This costs approximately $15 and allows you to process files of any size. Professional: This version costs approximately $30 and will allow you to process batches of files and there is no restriction on file size. Trimming can cover two different objectives. a. you may want to trim digital silence; this can be done automatically or b. you may want to trim clicks or pops at the beginning or end of files; this is done manually by you selecting the number of frames to remove. MP3TRIM will let you preview the beginning and end of the file so you can see how your trim sounds before you save the file. You can also fade in and fade out and preview in the same way. The period of 5 secondds is configurable if you prefer a longer or shorter preview time. Hi! Here is what I personnally use (but it does not mean that there is nothing better. I just find it easier for my own needs). I personnally use real player for everything. Jaws works pretty well with it and with real player you can do everything, play dvds, burn cds, rip cds, in all formats but ogg (for the moment). i'dd say it's pretty good and it's all in one. Winamp does not play dvds though. that's all I can say. but maybe it is better to use different smaller programs. I don't know... Re: VORBIS COMPARED TO MP3
Vorbis is definitely far better than mp3 : First on the philosophical level : it is an open-source standard, so no copyrights involved. 2 : the soundquality is far better than mp3 and allows a bigher sampling rate. A 160kbps ogg will sound clearer than a 320kbps mp3. I really encourage you to play with it. you'll be really amazed... Ogg vorbis has, in my ears, a siilar quality to the aac format. Re: VORBIS COMPARED TO MP3
The following are my personal opinions. The best way to come to a conclusion is to check it out yourself. 1. I find that Vorbis is a considerably better format. The file size to quality ratio is considerably more favorable. The fact that Vorbis is open source works very much in its favor. As I understand it, were there the tools to do it, a Vorbis file could be much more manipulable than an MP3 file. 2. What works in MP3's favor is that everyone's using it. Forbis has never caught on in the mainstream, despite all the predictions that it would. It's the VHS versus Beta thing. If Vorbis ever does catch on in the mainstream, I will be surprised. Some portable units support vorbis, but these are few and far between. any free vorbis encoders
Hi guys, I have a program called Win-lame that encodes mp3s and ogg vorbis. The problem is that I don't care for the interface, because you have to set the settings each time rather then having presets. I'm used to Razorlame as my mp3 encoder. Is there a good free ogg vorbis to wave converter out there besides gold wave? Thanks. Re: digital USB powered stereo fm transmitter
Hi Shannon, I forgot to mention that if you have one of those headset FM radios you can tune it to the same frequency as your transmitter, and listen in private anywhere within the range of the transmitter. I am using 2 soundcards on my computer, and have the transmitter plugged into 1 and Jaws comes across the other, so while I'm working at the computer, I can hear Jaws on the PC speakers, and have music at a lower volume coming through the transmitter to my FM radio. Then when I get up from the computer, I just take the radio with me. This configuration allows me to work at the computer and hear Jaws, while my family listens to music from my computer, without having to listen to Jaws. I can also listen to the TV anywhere in the house, whether it is a TV station, video tape, or DVD. I hope you can get a transmitter, you'll have fun. As far as I can tell, vorbis rocks compared to mp3 files. That's when you put vorbis at a 128 bitrate. Of course, I don't mind having mp3 files at 320 but at 128 ogg vorbis files sound great. Re: digital USB powered stereo fm transmitter
Hi Shannon, All of the audio sources in my house, are connected to my computer The DVD player, the VCR, and the satellite receiver are all connected to my stereo amplifier. And the stereo amplifier is connected to the line-in jack on my computer soundcard. My FM transmitter is connected to the speaker jack on the same soundcard, so any sound that comes thru that soundcard, regardless of the source, is in return sent to the FM transmitter. I also have my microphone plugged into the same soundcard, so if for example, I am at my computer and the phone rings, and it is for someone else in the family, I can let them knowover one of the FM radios in the house without yelling. Re: musicmatch jukebox
Before I knew what would work and would not for me as a blind person, I bought some Musicmatch software and threw away around $60. When I got it and Window-Eyes would not read the icons and stuff, I was very disappointed. I could not get my money back. Now, I try not to get suckered into this again, bsometimes, I do, and regret this later on. I also try not to install any programs that would be difficult to remove later on. But if I do, then I'll have the shop reformat the system and help me back everything up. I was even told that MS Backup in Windows will not do a good job of backing up stuff. I would back up as much manually onto CD's as I could, running out of discs just when I was about to finish backing up, then have to beg the technicians to finish my backup for me. I am always real embarrassed about that. Anyway, for what it's worth, Musicmatch Jukebox is a program made for sighteds, and no good for blind folks. Need Help In Making Windows Media Play The Stream
Hello list members: I sure hope I can explain this problem correctly. Here's what happened: a few days ago, I finally upgrqaded to "Internet Explorer 6. The next morning, I went to one of the stations that I listen to that is supported by Windows Media Player; I got a message, telling me that I could listen to the stream..using Internet Explorer's player. So I mistakenly clicked "Yes"..I now find that I don't want this player to come up this way; I prefer Windows Media to play it as before; other stations that use "Windows Media" as their audio stream will still come up witht the Windows Media player; it's just this one station (WSM)..which is at Bill Sparks's website..that comes up in this fashion that I have discribed. Is there any way I can change it back to the way it was? Thanks ahead of time for any help you can provide; hope I have explained this right! Tom Kaufman P.S. HTH. Hi Tracy. Yes, you can set the bit rate with CDex. You can even use VBR, which is variable bit rate. You can use ABR which finds an average bit rate.
