Hi, Kris.
        Have a look at the Bookport
        http://sun1.aph.org/tech/bp_info.htm
        It will record audio, though with a low quality microphone, and play
books from Audible, BookShare and NLS;
It'll also play mp3, though the only other type of music files it plays are
WAV. It will not play OGG or WMA. It comes with 64 MB of memory, but cards
of up to 2 gigabytes are available for anything from $10 to $160 or so. I've
seen 2 GB cards for around $140, but this has been on special. It uses
compact flash memory. I think that answers all your question. I wouldn't use
the recording features of the machine, BTW, for anything more than notes or
short memos that don't have to be of high quality. If you want a good
recorder, you should probably get the Archos or Iriver mainstream MP3
players, but these won't play books from Bookshare, Audible, or NLS.
        HTH.

Subject: Portable Audio Player

Hi All,

I know I want the moon and stars, but I'm looking to purchase a portable
audio player that will do the following:

record and play books from Audible, BookShare and NLS;
play mp3 and other types of music files.

I'd like at least a gig of memory, if it has permanent storage. However, in

many ways those that use memory cards are better because you are not limited

and you can put different types of material on different cards even using a
card for self-help type books and a different card for recreational reading
and still other cards for jazz, classical and so forth.

I know I won't find the perfect player out there, but I'd like to get the
most features for my money.

I have even considered the PlexTalk, but although that gives me some
additional capabilities, it's awfully pricey.

Any recommendations???

Kris Hickerson
