I think it's that they're even more
careful because they don't want any
goons from RIAA coming up there and
shutting them down.

I'm sorry I did not know this is

Re: Mp3DirectCut was: recording radio broadcasts.

2004-10-17 Thread Harry Bassler
Yes, MP3DirectCut is fantastically fast, much faster than SoundForge or
GoldWave.
I use it for recording drama from BBC Radio 4 & for editing out unwanted
portions of audio.
It works quite well with Jaws 4.51, Jaws 5.0 & Jaws 5.10.
There are also scripts available if you need them, but not essential.
It can tell immediately the playing time of a large audio file, say 85 megs,
& you can go instantly to any spot withing that same file.
Also, you can press the right or left arrow key while the audio is playing,
& hear just as with an audio cd.
It's terrific!

will mp3 clip give tight edits?

2004-10-17 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi all, I have a radio station that I want to edit the commercials and
i d's out of, so, I tried using mp3 clip, and when playing the files
back, it was almost as if winamp went back a word, and you could hear
the last part of the previous word, before the segment I wanted
started, and to me, this is unacceptable, so, will mp3 clip perform
tight edits, or, would another program be necessary for this? The only
knowledge I have of recording and such is with total recorder standard
version, and just wondered if mp3 clip was designed for tight edits, as
I can pause winamp at the place I want, hit the grab time button in mp3
clip, but when I play the clip, there's part of the last word, almost
as if winamp backed up a half to a full second. Just want to know, for
tighter editing, would I have to get another program, which one, and
how difficult would it be to use? Thanks for any help in advance.

streamload

2004-10-17 Thread Gordon and Kimberly
Has anyone used the streamload service to store and share files? It seems like a
great way to have your mp3 files whereever you go, and if I understand it, you can
share with other folks, if they are willing.
There are lots of people who have otr shows that share on streamload, and I'm
wondering how accessible it is to use.

winamp email list and shortcuts to use the program?

2004-10-17 Thread Juan Sosa
Hello everyone:
I just upgraded from winamp 2.91 smiles, to 5.5 and I am wondering if the
email group for winamp still active? I went to the jfwlite but the page for
winamp is unavailable. I would like to be able to subscribe to it if it
stil active. A while back I remember seen some type of little manual or
some keyboard commands which would help in the usage of the program?
could anyone please direct me so that I can a least get started? smiles.
I've also heard that with this version of winamp you can also find radio
stations. I am wondering how someone can go about that?
Well, would appreciate all the help that I could get.
thanking everyone in advance for the help.

Re: winamp email list and shortcuts to use the program?

2004-10-17 Thread shawn klein
Hi Juan, here's how to subscribe.

Subscription information
To subscribe to the list, send a blank e-mail message
to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and in the
subject line, type the word "subscribe" without the
quote marks. Note that this is a little bit different
from other list providers, where the command to do
what you want is contain in the e-mail address itself.
In this case, you must place this command in the
subject line.
To find radio stations you'll need the library. If you
control tab around and it isn't there, select it with
alt l. Then control tab till you find it. You'll also
want to increase the number of streams to something
like 7000. I can send you a message about how to do
that, by default it's 500. When you're in the library
you'll have to use your Jaws cursor and left click
internet radio if it isn't selected. Past that there
are list boxes for bandwidth, genre, and stations
within the genre, and a search feature which I never
bother with. Just start typing the name of a genre you
want in the genre box and you'll go to that area of
the list. For example type oldies and oldies will be
selected. Type mariachi, and mariachi won't come up
because they don't seem to have that particular genre,
but something starting with m a r is sure to come up.
That's how it works for me. Good luck.

Re: Accessible DVD Software.

2004-10-17 Thread Geoff Eden
Hi Jim, long time no speak. . . . I'm using PowerDVD 4 and having moderate
success. I've upgraded to Media Player 10, on presumably good advice, and
I'll try it today. I've asked the list for an opinion on the accessibility
and general utility of PowerDVD 5, but so far no responses. I'm going to
look at the Roxio site for an upgrade to run my DVD writer, and see if
anything they offer has potential.

Subject: winamp email list and shortcuts to use the program?

  Juan Sosa

Re: DVS was Re: playing dvd?

2004-10-17 Thread Geoff Eden
A listing of Canadian produced DVS will shortly appear on:
http://www.voiceprintcanada.com
and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at the breadth and depth of the
collection.

Some of the collection is classic stock, but for my money, just as much
pleasure is derived from them as the latest Hollywood action kitty flicks.
I observe that among the reasons for less recent material is the immense
effort that's required to acquire copyright, and some property owners
believe that the essential artistry of their master pieces is being defiled
by changing the sound track. Yes, and then there are holders who want
money. Finally I believe, discussions with a tiny canadian "not for profit"
organization is beneath the holders dignity. Yes my friends the
vicissitudes of international politics are forever with us in the disability
community too.

I think they may just have a list of dvd's that they have described. There
are some more dvd's with dvs out there. About the only way I know to find
out which have it is to get sighted help. on the wgbh site you can sign up
for a weekly e-maiil that tells you what movies are being described so you
know that the dvd's will probably have dvs also but not necessarily.

Re: I need to know where to find something, please?

2004-10-17 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Mary Ellen, go to preferences with control p, press the letter p
for plugins, and if closed, expand the tree-view with control p, then
arrow down to input, then tab to the list view, and this is where you
want to be, so, arrow down the list until you find the thompson mp3 pro
decoder or encoder, what ever it is called, and tab to the configure
button, and press the space bar, and tab, and eventually, you'll see a
check box that says mp3 pro enabled, and if it is checked, which it
should be by default, when it is installed, then it is enabled, just
uncheck the box to disable it, then tab to close, press the space bar,
and close again to get out of preferences. I haven't used the mp3 pro
plugin because when somebody isn't broadcasting, it pops up a dialog
for a user name and pass code, and short of pressing the escape key, I
can't get out of it, unless I close winamp, and try the stream again.

A listing of Canadian produced DVS will shortly appear on:
http://www.voiceprintcanada.com
and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised at the breadth and depth of
the
collection.

Some of the collection is classic stock, but for my money, just as much
pleasure is derived from them as the latest Hollywood action kitty flicks.
I observe that among the reasons for less recent material is the immense
effort that's required to acquire copyright, and some property owners
believe that the essential artistry of their master pieces is being
defiled
by changing the sound track. Yes, and then there are holders who want
money. Finally I believe, discussions with a tiny canadian "not for
profit"
organization is beneath the holders dignity. Yes my friends the
vicissitudes of international politics are forever with us in the
disability
community too.

I think they may just have a list of dvd's that they have described. There
are some more dvd's with dvs out there. About the only way I know to find
out which have it is to get sighted help. on the wgbh site you can sign up
for a weekly e-maiil that tells you what movies are being described so you
know that the dvd's will probably have dvs also but not necessarily.

saving shows from coasttocoast

2004-10-17 Thread Sharon Hamm
Hello. I'm trying to save one of the classic coasttocoast shows. It doesn't
have mp3 links to it. It just has the full show in windows media player or
real player. I don't know how to save this show for listening to later.
They have the free streamlink this weekend. We got other shows but not the
classics that they have up there. They say that you can download those also.

trouble with live 365

2004-10-17 Thread Joanne
If I log into live 365.com I am recognized, but I find that website
difficult to get around so I want to play stations from Bill Sparks' site.
As I said live 365 itself recognizes my user name, but when I go to play a
station on Bill's website there's a little recording that says I have to
sign in or register with live 365. I'd be glad to sign in on Bill's site if
I could find a place to do this, so that site recognizes my live 365 user
name. But I don't see one and don't know how to get the Sparks site to
recognize that I'm signed up with the service. Thanks for any input.

Hello Mary Ellen,
Go into WinAmp, press control, P, for preferences,
you will be in a tree view, which you can arrow thru the items.
You will be looking for input, or output.
Once you have an item highlighted, use your tab key to move thru the
dialogues for that item.
If you choose to configure something, when you come to the configure button,
press spacebar to activate it.

GoldWave And Panning

2004-10-17 Thread Roger R. Cusson
Hi Listers,

Does anyone know how to work the panning feature in GoldWave???

Yes, I am aware of the pre-sets, however, they are way too drastic. One is
suppose to be able to click on some lines, and bend them into the direction
that they would like the audio signal to go.

I cannot find anything on the screen that I can physically click. I hear
some edit boxes and some x and y coordinates.

If any one can tell me how to set up proper panning in GW, I would
appreciate it very much. I am using JFW.

I think it depends on how you have your players configured. on my system.
I have Winamp, Realplayer and Windowsmedia. And I've set Winamp as the
default player for every file type it will play. Therefore when an MP3 file
comes along, Winamp takes over, that is if all is working well on this
system. (grin.)

I know that they are doing free streaming this weekend was why i went there.

Actually I copied a couple of exercise cassettes to my compputer very
successfully using sound forge.
All I did was plug a patch chord into the line out of the cassette
recorder
and into the line in on the computer and record away.
It was really very simple.

Subject: Music Services Questions

Hi All,
I have two questions.
1. Does anyone use MusicMatch Jukebox? If so, how accessable is it? How
do the different programs very, i.e. what would I get with MusicMatch,
Music
Match on Demand? I think I do want the MusicMatch Radio stations, but I'm
not sure I need the MusicMatch music store.

2. Has anyone had experience with a program called LimeWire? I have it
and
I can't get it to do anything. I'm having what is beginning to look like
a
very negative experience. I decided to try the mymusicinc. link. It
looks
like it could be very nice, so I signed up. In order to download their
music you are instructed to download LimeWire, which I did. However, it
appears not to be at all accessable. I had 30 days to try the program
with
a supposedly money back guarantee. I have sent 3 e-mails to the company
telling them that their product is not accessable and asking what I need
to
do to obtain a refund. To date, I have not had the curtesy of a reply.
My
30 days is nearly ujp. I'll keep you all posted, because I believe this
is
going to be a website we need to stay away from.

Any information regarding these two products will be appreciated.

Yes my friends the
vicissitudes of international politics are forever with us in the
disability
community too.

are some more dvd's with dvs out there. About the only way I know to find

for a weekly e-maiil that tells you what movies are being described so you
know that the dvd's will probably have dvs also but not necessarily.

If you're on the show, arrow down further. There's a heading called "MP3".
The show is then divided into the four hours of the show, and you should
be able to click on whichever hour you want and download.

Last time they had a free Streamlink weekend, there were also only a few
select shows available for download, not the full range of shows available
to paying members.

doesn't
have mp3 links to it. It just has the full show in windows media player

They have the free streamlink this weekend. We got other shows but not
the
classics that they have up there. They say that you can download those

The coast to coast website is for the nightly coast to coast show that airs
on radio and the internet. Saturdays and Sundays Art Bell runs it and the
rest of the time George Noory does. They have a service that you have to
subscribe to and pay for if you want total freedom to stream and download
their programs. But once in a while, for PR purposes, they have a "free
weekend" during which they allow anyone to stream or download selected
"classics". There are eight programs they're allowing this weekend. the

I bought mine last year, its a Dell. The model is 4550, she put out pretty
good, I just keep up with the disk clean-up and the defragmenting and she
does great, I leave it on on the time except for one day during the week
like Sunday or Monday I shut her down to give her a break. Dave

You can buy subscriptions for 6 or 12 months. I think you can also pay

Bobcat and Harry,
So it can be set to record or schedule streams as they play and not just
archived programs? Does it use its own drivers like TR and some of the
other audio capturing programs? Since it is free it certainly sounds like
it is worth a try. Thanks for this.

The biggest problem is probably that the version numbers are 5.04 and

Re: Copying cassettes to computer

2004-10-17 Thread RQJ
Hi Dave,
You plug the patch cord into the, line-in, jack on the soundcard.
Yes, you can do this with a VCR, but only with the audio output. on the VCR.
This will require a different patch cord, with a RCA plug on one end, since
the jacks on the VCR are RCA type.
The patch cable may need to be, atenuated, so that the output doesn't
overdrive the soundcard.
HTH,
Richard Justice

Hi Dave,
You plug the patch cord into the, line-in, jack on the soundcard.
Yes, you can do this with a VCR, but only with the audio output. on the
VCR.
This will require a different patch cord, with a RCA plug on one end,
since
the jacks on the VCR are RCA type.
The patch cable may need to be, atenuated, so that the output doesn't
overdrive the soundcard.

Try going into the context menu and arrow down to save target and hit
enter.
I have saved a couple Mosen Explosions like that and they work just

Hello. I'm trying to save one of the classic coasttocoast shows. It
doesn't
have mp3 links to it. It just has the full show in windows media player
or
real player. I don't know how to save this show for listening to later.
They have the free streamlink this weekend. We got other shows but not
the
classics that they have up there. They say that you can download those
also.

Re: Mp3DirectCut was: recording radio broadcasts.

2004-10-17 Thread Bobcat
No special drivers to use Mp3DirectCut. No installer either. You just
unzip the files to a folder then create a shortcut to the Mp3DirectCut.exe
file. Files are saved in the folder your shortcut specifies. It's a good
idea to look at the options to be sure you save each new file with the date
cause it doesn't ask you for file names when you record.

So, it just basicly records what you have set in the record section of the
Windows mixer.

The manual is pretty good.

Hi, Sharon, try using the context menu, and arrow down to save target
as once you've focused on the link, but keep in mind, this may not work
on their site, and if it does, the stream you are pointing to may only
be available for a short while, but try the context menu and save
target as, and see what that does.

Hi, Sharon, to save something as an mp3 file, you'd need software like
total recorder from
http://www.highcriteria.com
or recall pro, which is share ware, like total recorder from
http://www.sagebrush.com
Total recorder standard costs $13, and recall pro costs about $40,
about as much as the professional version of total recorder, which
allows you to edit, so, the only thing you can do is save the streams
or links that point to real media files, because that's how they were
recorded.

Re: winamp email list and shortcuts to use the program?

2004-10-17 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, David, try this site,
http://winamp4theblind.jjhof.com/
and it should be there. Now, when installing winamp 5.05, be sure to
uncheck the modern skin support in the tree-view in the installer of
winamp, and also the winamp agent and the visualizations. This is
because all the components are selected by default, and pressing the
space bar on an item unselects it so it won't be installed, and if the
modern skin support is not installed, you can't make the mistake of
accidently selecting it when you're arrowing up and down the
preferences tree-view. Hope this helps, let us know if there are
anymore questions.

Questions re Creative Labs mp3 plus u s b sound card

2004-10-17 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Hello,

Question 1: Does this card have a strong microphone pre-amp?

Question 2: Does this card have knobs, or must all adjustments be made
through the computer?

Question 3: Are the jacks one eighth inch mini jacks or are they R C A
jacks?

Thanks for responses.

Re[2]: Audacity.

2004-10-17 Thread djc
There is a windows installer for it and I've taken a look at it. It's just
a simple editor allowing you to mix sounds. It would be ok for simple
production. It is freeware. I didn't find it all that speech friendly
though. it does have some keyboard commands but say I want to put a sound
in the middle of another sound. I couldn't understand how to do that. It
reminded me of sound recorder but with more features.

If it is the creative USB card, I could never get it to work at all
-- sound would come out, but I had problems getting the mic and other
things to work properly, so I gave it up.

Re: New Member Question

2004-10-17 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Standard cord with a standard cassette deck, not a cassette player such as
the typical adaptive jobs. You will need a cord with two rca plugs on one
end and a standard earphone jack on the other. The two rca plugs go into
the left and right channel sockets of the deck. The earphone plug goes into
the line-in output of the sound card. The rest depends on the software you
use.
