Re: Apple TV
Hi , first I would like to intraduce myself , My name is jason LeFevers I live in Baltimore MD USA. I have been blind for about 9 years now, I lost my sight in a car accident while serving in the Airforce. I have only been using apple products bor a few years now with the purchase of the iphone 3gs. I am now loving all apple products . The toys I have currently are, iphone 4s, Macbook pro, apple tv, and airport extreme. I also have my PC with Jaws 13 that i also use. I have only had the macbook since and apple tv 2nd gen since christmass. I am still learning the voiceover on the mac but its getting easier to do things . I wanted to comment on the apple tv and say how much I enjoy it. For the first time since loosing my sight I am able to know what is on the tv and select what I want to watch with no sighted help. I use it alot to play tv shows for my kids when I am alone with them using netflicks, and tv shows that i purchased from Itunes. I also have it hooked up to a nice stereo and take advantage of the airplay feature to play music from my itunes and pandora threw my stereo using my Iphone. I would be happy to answer any specific questions about it . thanks I look forward to learning more from you all about apple and other accessable toys. jason PS I hear rumers that the Apple Itv will be released sometime this year I am really excited to see what this tv will offer. Re: Apple TV & streaming music?
Hey tracy , the only way to play music on your apple TV with no other devices running is to turn on Itunes match , however I believe this is a paid service which allows you to store your music in a cloud and access it from any device. you can access your Itunes music and movies on your computer using home sharing but this requires your computer to be running and on the same network . You don't have to be at the computer it just has to be on and Itunes has to be running and from your apple TV just go into the home sharing menue and access your music that way. If your just looking to play music I have a few better options if you have a Iphone or Ipod touch. Also what new apple TV are you refering to? I have the 2nd gen the thing I heard was apple is going to release a actual TV set sometime this year and I don't know what all it will do. It will be apples version of a smarty TV. I don't know any good podcasts other than the ones listed already. let me know if you want to know more about the apple TV I am happy to help. Re: Apple TV & streaming music?
oh I didn't know about the update for the apple TV . If you already have a iphone or Ipod with IOS 4.3 or later than you can use the airplay feature on the apple TV. just have the TV on and on your IOS device turn airplay on to stream music from your device to your TV. It works great with music from any source on your IOS device either your Itunes music , pandora , spotify etc you can play it using the apple TV The most recent update also allows something called airplay mirroring which when turned on streams your whole display on your IOS device on to your TV with the apple TV. Esentually making your apple TV connected a larger version of your IOS device. Re: Should I choose Airport Extreme?
Hey tracy, I recently got the airport extreme and so far I like it. First it was very easy to setup with no sighted assistance. I am not sure about the other router you are looking at but the airport extreme is a dualband which is where some of the cost comes from. This will make a difference while using multiple devices and streaming content. We currently are running 2 ipones, a Ipad, 4 computers, a apple tv and a wireless home stereo system and they all work great anywhere in my house. Re: Starting the phone app automatically after unlocking the phone after upgrading to iOS 5.1
yes I believe this is a bug in the 5.1 update my 4S did not do this untill then. However I think apple may have done it on purpose . It launches the app that is first in your doc. So if you have a app that you want to launch every time you unlock your phone put it first in yourdoc. This only occurs when you touch the screen right away after unlocking but not after waiting a sec to do anything. jason n Mar 20, 2012, at 4:39 PM, David Hole wrote: > Hi folks. > I remember the discussion on iOS 5.1 a week ago, and tried to search > the group before posting this, but I couldn't find anything related. > Since I thought this was a nice idea, I didn't care that much, but > right now this is beginning to piss me a bit off... > As the subject says... Re: Apple TV questions
Hi Ed, I can help you some. First off make sure you have a HDMI cable already because it doesn't come with one, and this is the only way to hook it to your tv or reciever. As far as starting VO from start up I am not sure I used my wife to turn it on for me, but i recall someone saying to tripple click the play/pause button which is the button all the way on the bottom right on your remote. If that doesn;t work and you don't have sighted assistance I can walk you threw it on the phone or something. using airplay is very simple to do, I haven't used it on the Ipad but I have on my Iphone and I think its the same. First you need to get your apple TV all set up and running on the same network as your Ipad etc. once that is all set up there are 2 ways to turn on airplay . Frist is to double click your home button on the Ipad to bring up app switcher and do a 3 finger swipe to the right to get to the first page of the ap switcher then scroll down the page untill it says airplay and select it. It then will bring up a list of airplay devices on your network, since you only have the apple tv that will be the only option besides the ipad itself . scroll to the apple tv and select it and your connected to your apple tv, once you select the apple tv you will then be given the option to turn on airplay mirroring , you dont have to do this to play music and other content on your apple tv. you only want to do this if you want to view your whole Ipad display on your tv . So once you turn airplay on on your Ipad whenever you play any music or media on your Ipad it will play threw your apple tv and not threw your Ipad untill you switch it back to Ipad . The second way to do airplay which is a little better if your doing something and want to quickly play something on your apple tv. all you have to do is start playing the music or movies etc on your Ipad and where the controls are for play/pause, forward and rewind are there will be a airplay button, just select it and it will bring up the devices list and select your apple tv and it will start playing threw your tv. This works on some 3rd party apps like pandora and utube as well. I also forgot to mention that there is nothing to be done to the apple tv to do airplay it just has to be turned on as well as the acctual tv and running the apple tv , thats it. So play around with it when you get it and let me know if you need any help . Re: Apple TV questions
Ed hulu will work with the Iphone app however the only way it would work for me is using airplay mirroring . So turn on airplay mirroring on on your iphone and then launch the hulu app and pick your movie to watch and it should start playing on the apple tv. This should work with both devices but I have not tryed it with a Ipad so I am not possitive . Ed, on your iphone double click the home button to bring up the app switcher, then 3 finger swipe to the right untill you are on the first page, then scroll down untill it says airplay , select it, scroll down to where it says apple tv and select it , once selected below where it says apple tv there will be a button called airplay mirroring , select it and your good to go. let me know if this doesn't make sence. A little help with sorting documents
Hello , I am still new to the mac and can't figure out how to sort my documents into specific forlders. So to start I am using a mac book pro with lion. I can create a document fine, I have also created a folder on my desktop where I want to put client notes. The folder on my desktop is called unseen touch. I can put documents in this folder just find also . The thing that I want to do and that i can't do is, In the main folder unseen touch I would like to make many different folders for each of my clients and in each of those folders put individual documents for that days notes. what I have done so far is like I said is create the main folder and when I open it there is a folder that I named jason as well as a document called jason lefevers soap note. how do I get the soap note doc into the jason folder? I have tryed copying the doc and then opening the jason folder then pasting the doc but it just tells me that its already there and asks if I want to replace it , so I say yes but Its not showing up in the jason folder , nothing shows up when I open the jason folder. Re: Adding contacts to my mail program
hello, when you tap on the add a contact button on your email it should bring you to the list of contacts that you have on your phone. after that all you have to do is select which person you want to send a message and select them and it will bring you back to your email with there info in the to feild. Note you have to have the contacts email address already put in there contact info on your phone. Hope that helps. jason On Apr 8, 2012, at 12:29 PM, Beefcakes wrote: > Hi Ricardo and everybody, happy Easter to everyone who celebrates., I > understand what you are saying, but I'm also talking about the ad contact > button I see in the mail program when you reply to someone. Re: apple tv without a tv set
Hey Ed, first off to answer your question yes it can be done as long as you have a receiver with HDMI imput it should work fine. Now in saying that do you already have the apple tv? if so what do you planning on using it for ? do you plan on playing music and videos, or just music? If just music might i recommend just getting a airport express and hook it up to your receiver or powered computer speakers then just streamming music from your mac , pc, or I device using airplay. jason On Apr 11, 2012, at 12:21 AM, Ed Worrell wrote: > Hello listers, can an apple tve be used without a tv set attached? Re: apple tv without a tv set
hey there are 2 ways to play music from your apple tv with out using Itunes match turned on . either streaming them using airplay from your iphone, ipad , ipod etc, or from your computer. the only ther wway to do it is to have your computer running with Itunes open and having home sharing enabled , then on your apple tv go to where it says computers and select it your computer should show up then you can play all the music and other content that you have in your Itunes library on your computer. hope that helps. Re: Replacing an ordinary hifi, but with what?
hey, I am not sure how big of a system your looking for but I have a few suggestions. First off if your just looking for a single room system and want to use airplay , i would suggest geting a airplay enabled reicever like the pioneer vsx 1021 k and just get the speakers you want , or a single powered sspeaker that I heard had good reviews was the zeplin air I forgot who made it but its supposte to be pretty good and you can get multipule ones and have music in different rooms , however you can only play the same music on all the systems . Finally I will suggest what I have done , first off check out www.sonos.com this is a wireless system that conects to your network but creates its own designated mesh network for stereo . So you have a few options to run a setup and I will let you check out the website for all there products, but I will just tell you what I have set up now . I have 5 sonos play 3 powered speakers and a bridge. the play 3 speakers are about 7in wide, 6in deep and 4in tall , I have one in 5 different rooms in my house and can play music from my itunes library and a ton of other music services like pandora and spotify , etc. You can play different music at different levels in each room just using a iphone app. YOu can also control all stations from computers, I devices, android devices . I mainly use my Iphone and its pretty accessable , I can choose songs and control volume etc right from my phone and the ap can be closed when you dont need to do anything with it . The sound on the play 3 s are pretty good its a smaller version of the play 5 . And if you want to check out the play3 or play5 systems I know best buy and target sells them or you can get them right from theere sight. Let me know if you want any more info about it . jason Apr 17, 2012, at 4:52 AM, Krister Ekstrom wrote: > Hi good people. > I'll soon be moving and starting a new life in a way. Re: Upgrading to lion from snow leopard
Recardo, I guess the way I read it was that you might have known that the upgrade to ML was not possible from SL and you were giving me a hard time about suggesting the jump to M: and skipping Lion. Maybe a better way that you could have responded would have just been to post the question of weather or not that jump was possible or not . Sorry if that is what you were trying to say I guess I miss read it. Now in saying that it is possible to jump from SL to ML without lion first as long as you have the hardware to support the new OSX. I would also think that if you had aadiquity powered machine you could just do a clean os install and put what ever os you want ? Or am I totally wrong>? thanks . Re: Dragon Naturally Speaking and MacBook
Hi I have never used dragon dictation however I have heard of blind people using it with there windows computer with JAWS I am not sure how it works for mac. But in saying that how old is there mac computer? next month when mountain lion is released it will have a built in dictation feature that will allow everyone to type by using speach and its already built into the OS so if its anything like the dictation on the Iphone 4S it should be pretty good. Hope this helps . Re: using mac to control iDevice
Hi I do not know of any apps, however I am not sure I see why you would want to do this? To me it seems like you would just be using alot more equipment to do simple tasks. I could maybe see using it to type , but why not just type what you need using the computer? I do think that there are apps that turn your Iphone into a track pad for your mac though. Re: using mac to control iDevice
Hi to answer your question yes usin the bluetooth keyboard and streamming music would probably use your battery pretty quick. However I do think a airplay speaker or using a apple tv or airport express hooked up to some powered speakers would be the best way to do what you want. Airplay is very simple to use , just get a airplay speaker or one of the other options I mentioned you'll have to hook it up to your home network once you do It will show up on all the devices on that network so say your I touch and mac and a airplay speaker were all on your network you can use either the mac or Itouch to stream and control music on the speaker. So If you wanted to use your mack to just control your music on your airplay speaker and use the bluetooth keyboard for the Itouch to enter long text I think this would solve the battery issue. If you need any help with this I would be happy to help you if you are considering this option. Jason On Jul 1, 2012, at 2:28 PM, Traci wrote: > ;) Because I didn't think about that. help with ripping ddvds to external hard drive and playing them on itunes
Hi ok I really need some assistance i am getting in over my head with this stuff. so here is my situation I have a external harddrive that is hooked to my arrport extreme so I can access the content on my MBP. what I am trying to do is use rip it to rip my dvd collection and have it saved on my external HD I also want to be able to use Itunes on my MBP to play these movies . What I have been able to do so far is : I had ripped 3 movies previously to my Itunes library on my MBP and was able to play them just fine. searched on the web for how to move them to external HD , what I did was copy the movies folder from Itunes and pasted it on the external HD then went back and deleated the folder on my MBP . after this I could go to Itunes and if i went to play a movie it would say it could not located it and it would give you the option to find it , so I found it and could play it then from my ex HD but I would have to do that search every time . The way I read to solve this was to in Itunes delete the movies from the library since they were not linked to anything anymore. then with my wifes help opened opened the ex HD and dragged the movies folder while holding the option key and dropping it on the main Itunes window . the movies showed up and when I clicked on a movie it would play just fine and would be playing from the ex HD. so this was great , now the problem I have now is adding to that library. I changed the settings on ripit so when I rip a dvd it is saved in the movies folder on my external HD that I copied from my MBP . I was able to do this , however It doesn't seem to save it in the same format as the other previously ripped dvds and I am unable to get it to show up in my Itunes movies library on my MBP with the other movies . I can access the movie by opening my HD and selecting it and it will start playing using the dvd player which I guess is fine but this is not what I want to do . I am really trying to get it so I can use my apple tv to play movies stored on my externial HD . I know I can't do this directly I have to access the movies from the Itunes library on my MBP using my apple tv. sorry for the very long post If anyone has any ideas or is very good with Itunes stuff and external harddrives I could really use some help. thanks alot Jason PS I am using lion with a late 2011 MBP . -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
