I’m curious as to what folks use here for spotify? I’ve looked at a couple things here most of which are linux based clients i’ve played with in my vm. I also looked at the spotify web player, but dont really like that either as the buttons or rather a lot of buttons aren’t labeled properly in the flash player. Sorry telling me to use an iphone on a mac list is not acceptable. I dont have an iphone and i refuse to buy one. that’s not the point here however. telling someone to use another device for something i should be able to do on my mac isn’t acceptable. If you dont know of an app for this then simpley dont speak up. people, this isn’t an iphone list stop pointing people to iphones and asking iphone questions here. again this isn’t an iphone list it’s a mac list if i ask a question here i dont want an iphone answer. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Apr 21, 2015, at 10:08 PM, Charlie Doremus wrote: > > If you have an iPhone tell Siri to do it > > Aloha, > > Charlie > >> On Apr 21, 2015, at 7:02 PM, deedra waters wrote: >> >> Before anyone asks, no i dont think reminder app will do this.:) >> >> I need an app or similar that i can set to remind me every x number of hours >> to do something. Alex, the biggest thing for me currently is the wifi battery and time/date. Reminders is also an issue but it’s not critical but it would be useful. other mac accessibility mailing list?
Is there another ml that’s more mac related? it seems this list has degenerated into an ios mailing list andand i would like one that provides mac support only. BTW why do people send mail for a ios device to this list? I’ve deleted some 1400 messages from this folder and a lot of it is ios related so if anyone knows of one i would appreciate info on an ml for macs not ios. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. spotify accessibility and some questions.
so i saw on applevis when i went looking for spotify advice/answers that a developer of some sort had given a very very very brief summary of how to get spotify working with accessibility. i’m going to write up here what i did to get it to work right for me and some of what i noticed. I’m hoping someone more talented then me can help me figure out some answers to things i can’t figure out. note that some of my problems here are lack of the more finer points of voiceover combine with the evilness of not being able to figure out all of the keystrokes the spotify app has. The article on applevis has a little script that they say will make spotify launch. I would and hope that there is a way to set this to launch with accessibility on startup. Maybe someone knows how to get this to happen? also maybe someone knows of keystrokes with this app i’d appreciate the info. below is my little 1-liner since i’m largely a command line user, i kind of….well it’s probably ugly but it works… —begin script—— #!/bin/bash /Applications/Spotify.app//Contents/MacOS/Spotify —args —force-renderer-accessibility > /dev/null2&1 —end—code— The above script causes spotify to start with the accessibility stuff but it’s very very ugly. However with some keyboard commands it could be much easier to handle. I know that the author of the article on applevis gave some basic keystrokes to handle search stuff but here’s what i’d like to see. for one i’d like to see the roter (vo+u) work with this I dont know what it would take to make this happen or even who i’d need to contact to make it work. It does however seem that with the latest spotify release things are working a bit smoother. for 2 i’d like a way to jump from frame to frame so that i could see what is in what frame actually thinking on this that seems to be the biggest problem for me. I would be very very happy if someone knows a way to add things to playlists i can’t figure this one out. I also dont know how to add things to the queue play the queue or get spotify to add certain things so that i can have stuff that’s stored locally such as the local files section of the monster of an html document.:) If anyone can help with these things i’d be greatful. It’s a rough thing for someone to get used to, but it’s liveable and with some keystrokes and info it would go easier. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: other mac accessibility mailing list?
wow , well that makes this list even harder to try and track since it’s already overly high traffic. well if there’s no alternative I’ll still see about hosting something mac specific or finding a place to host one. i just dont have the time or the patience to wade through all of the iphone topics just for the mac ones. perhapse people should change the name of this list while they’re at it. i’m not going to debate staying current with you accept to say that i have life on top of a mailing list with this kind of traffic you’re crazy but seriously i wish there was a better way of relaying a message like that on a ml with this much traffic. Maybe put something in the footer of the message or get it to mail out a mail that doesn’t get cought by mailing programs so they dont see the announcement and then have so much mail from said list that they litterally dont notice the important things till they complain about the huge spike in ios traffic or something similar. > On Sep 28, 2015, at 6:40 AM, Phil Halton wrote: > > Just recently, within the last few weeks, this question was answered by the > moderator Mark Taylor. the mac osx terminal and tinyfugue
My husband and i are looking at the possibilities of getting a mac mainly do to it's accessibility. I'm curious to know how well the shell/terminal works with voiceover. very very new mac user
For the majority of my life i've been a linux user. I've wanted a mac for quite a while now and i'm going to get a macbook air soon. I've got a couple of questions though: There are certain things that i want to do in particular. 1. does i-chat work with irc or is it a mac specific thing? I particularly need an irc client because of some of the things i need to do. I'm also curious as to how android phones and macs get along. Only thing i need to do is be able to dump content onto the tablet and copy content from the tablet. I'm also looking for any tips or advice someone might have to offer to someone completely new to macs. I've got iphone experience but that died around ios 6 and i've not really followed any of that since.. Is there a website out there that offers suggestions for programs that are and aren't accessible on macs? That would probably answer the rest of my questions.:) Thanks -- Website: http://deedra.the-brannons.com blog: http://deedra.the-brannons.com/blog -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Thanks. I actually went and read the voiceover manual that was on the apple website not sure how current that is, but it did provide some initial help so i could look at my friend's mac and make the decision from there. Janina, that sounds like a plus there. how much of the terminal actually works with voiceover and how well? a few questions
I’ve been looking on applevis for an answer to this and i’m probably missing it. Are there accessible chat cliejnts to handle things like jabber and googletalk? Also does anyone know of an installer for mac ports for OS X 10.10? I’m only seeing installers for the older versions. I’ve not had a whole lot of luck getting the terminal to play nice. yet are there any options i need to set up to make it act better? mac terminal
I need as much advice here as possible. I do a lot of things in the terminal and what i’m discovering is that yeast is almost worse then voiceover in the err y a s r…. so since voiceover seems to work better for me with the terminal what i want to know is this. is there a way to stop voiceover from dropping large chunks of text in the terminal or in some cases, not even speaking them at all. If i could get this part fixed it would be greatly appreciated. what i mean is this for those who don’t understand. voiceover seems to try to keep up with the moving text on the terminal screen that’s appreciated, however it’s annoying for certain things and i need to get it to speak everything that comes in and not skip text. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. terminal info
Here are some thoughts along with about 2.5 weeks of using the mac and terminal. I found things to work best if i set my terminal to t100 turn curser tracking on and i seem to have the most success this way. I’m trying to mud from the terminal as well, and while it’s still not perfect it does “semi-work” and doesn’t make me want to toss the macbook in the nearest river.:) It would be nice to try and make it a bit better but, i can live with the way it is now though those urges to toss the thing in the river still resurface now and then:) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. some more questions
I have a really major question of sorts, well 2. How do i uninstall apps from the mac store that i do not want? I’m not seeing uninstall buttons from it anywhere that i can find. Also i’ve got apps that have downloaded to my downloads folder. I’m assuming i need to actually move them to the applications folder, but how do i accomplish this? BTW I seem to be getting along nicely with my mac. I’ve found a couple insanely useful apps some of which i found on applevis .:) I’ve found macjournal useful the most though. I’ve got a few things I need to track journal wise and i like the fact that i can just create multiple journals as needed. The app was expensive but worth the price. I also found an app called my medical. it’s fully accessible as far as i can tell. If someone wants to check it out and report it’s accessibility on apples they should do so. I don’t have an account to report it/fill out info on it and no time till after new years. The hi lights of my medical is that i’m on over 15 different medications, i’m in the hospital at least once every couple months and i go by ambulance. Once i’m done entering all of the data i should just be able to hand my macbook to the proper people so they can pull the info out of the app. We’ll see just how useful it is in time. My final question is this. I’m looking for good and free bible study apps so if anyone has ideas out there i’d appreciate it -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. first impression experiences from a former linux user
Well, first of all i’m more or less happy with what i got in terms of the macbook air. it’s portable and light which is good. I was able to sit in the er for several hours waiting for my turn to see the doctor and was actually not bored there for once. I had brought the macbook and a usb headset. Usually when i land in the hospital they end up admitting me because of some of my medical issues. This time though I wasn’t admitted but had i been i’d have books at least! Either way the 10ish hours passed rarely quickly with something to do. I was really annoyed the fact that i couldn’t get my media i’d brought to play for the life of me…. Instead i watched episodes of days of our lives from the iTunes store *snicker* >From a linux point of view though things are quite different. for example tail >-n 50 doesn’t work across platforms in terms of the mac and linux with the mac >you have to type something like tail -50 to get what you want. I’m highly unsatisfied with the terminal though I mean it does simple mac type things fine and works well enough for that but unless i buy vmware fusion or unless there’s a cheaper way of getting a linux vm up and running for those tasks that just don’t do well in the mac terminal The speech interrupts are highly annoying in the terminal i’d kill for a way to turn those off and on. I also ended up buying a few apps that just make things simpler for me. Take the my medical app. With as sick as i am, that app is almost a needed thing. I’ve been working to get as much of my medical records as possible put into the app so that way if worse comes to worse all i have to do is turn voiceover off, they should be able to access and read the info then give the thing back to me. In theory at least it sounds like a great idea. I’m probably going to have to find a way of getting the data to export to a readable format such as pdf for them. Mac journal i also found useful for several things. Over all, i like what i got. I still have a ton to learn but i think that that will come with time and practice. Re: first impression experiences from a former linux user
I thought about something like that or qemu would be useful, but the problem is i need to use speak or yeast inside the vm. The terminal has too many speech interupts for me to try and use tintin effectively rather then getting my char on one of the muds i play killed repeatedly because i can’t keep up with the constant speech interupts. Kind of sad that i want a vm just to play a couple muds but there you go heh. I tried to get yeast running from the command line already for some reason either it, the emacspeak server for mac or the tts are eating large chunks of text so that yeast is much worse then voiceover about missing things. I could try the mud client for mac, mudder i think it’s called, but i need something that can accept python or lua scripting. Sorry that’s probably more then you wanted to know, but didn’t have a quicker way of explaining it. Essentially i need to interact with the vm itself the same way others would use a windows vm on a mac. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Dec 11, 2014, at 11:52 AM, Georgina Joyce wrote: > > Hello Deedra, > > Remember virtual box that some speakup users talked about? > > http://nakkaya.com/2012/08/30/create-manage-virtualBox-vms-from-the-command-line/ > > Gena > > Georgina Joyce > Applied Psychologist > Training and Coaching. > Because individuals of groups matter! > >> On 11 Dec 2014, at 19:43, deedra waters wrote: >> >> Well, first of all i’m more or less happy with what i got in terms of the >> macbook air. it’s portable and light which is good. Yes i want to create the vm but i need to use it with speak the way some of you use windows vas for gaming or what ever. Basically I need linux for 1 task and that’s it, but it requires interacting with the vm not using ssh to log into it. If i understand things right, in order to use virtual box I’d have to generate the vm and run it and could only use it with ssh. Am i wrong here? I was lead to believe i’d need vmware fusion to both set up and run the vm. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Dec 11, 2014, at 2:55 PM, Cheryl Homiak wrote: > > Yes Ray. Any one know of another vm program that’s not vmware that would work for installing a simple small linux vm? deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. a horrible frustrating evening in vmware land
Well, after realizing /remembering that vmware had a 30 day free trial, i decided to take it and just build a vm with that. I’ll call it the evening from hell, but on the other hand i learned a lot more about how complicated and annoying vmware fusion was but on the other hand i have my linux vm and a sane terminal again:P Thanks to those who were helping me i greatly appreciate the help. I think before it’s all said and done i’m likely to end up with using the mac guy for those things that are easier to use there and probably running ssh into my macbook to do any command line things from there. It seems like the sanest solution there. I don’t look forward to paying for vmware fusion but on the other hand, once you get past it’s strange layout it’s a better choice then probably any of the other solutions i was debating. There’s not really lag between the vm and the sound of speak coming through the speakers like i expected there to be. There’s a slight delay but i’ve seen worse with ssh so i can live with the slight delay. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. I used the applevis article that claims to remap a key to the insert key, but it was meant for a windows vm i think because it didn’t remap my ` to the insert key as it claims to do. Someone who deals with applevis should note that to this article that it does not work for linux. Either way If someone could resend the emails talking about remapping my capslock key i’d appreciate it. Please send to me so we dont spam the list. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. remapping the capslock for linux
So i managed to unearth 2 emails which suggests remapping the capslock to an ` key however doing this in vmware still does not pass the capslock to the vm, it says ` when i type `. does anyone have any info on how to do this for linux? All i see on applevis is stuff for windows something called sharpkeys never heard of it. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: remapping the capslock for linux
Chris, that’s easier said then done i dont need a second keyboard to carry around:P and since i got this one with the macbook i’d rather not use 2 keyboards. I’ll look into those programs the link i read didn’t say anything about those. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Jan 6, 2015, at 5:42 PM, Chris Moore wrote: > > Hi, > Have you looked into installing karabiner and seil? > > If you want to use speakup, try plugging in a standard usb keyboard with a > numpad. > > Chris > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: remapping the capslock for linux
Ok so seil and karabiner are installed. I changed the capslock keycode to 50 since i want it to be the accent key. I have the capslock mapped to the accent key in the vm. I’m running in circles here people, I have no way still to get the capslock to pass to the vm wtf is going on here? you guys say this is doable but right now i see no way to get it to pass to the vm as a capslock key and i “have” to get this thing working, suggestions please? Again, i changed the capslock to 50 in seil, then mapped the accent key back to the capslock key in carabiner though this seems a bit screwed up in the mapping department. Then i went to vmware and mapped the accent to the capslock but it’s still not passing through. So what the heck am i doing wrong. Is this even doable or do i need to toss the apple keyboard in favor of a windows one. If i have to do that I’m going to be extremely upset. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Jan 6, 2015, at 5:42 PM, Chris Moore wrote: > > Hi, > Have you looked into installing karabiner and seil? > > If you want to use speakup, try plugging in a standard usb keyboard with a > numpad. > > Chris > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. disabling voiceover in vmware fusion
Is there a way to disable voiceover when i’m in my vm? i’ve tried setting up an activity to mute it but that doesn’t seem to be working. When voiceover is on, when i try to use the arrrows it doesn’t let me so i have to use command+f5 to turn it completely off which is just a pita. Any suggestions? deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: disabling voiceover in vmware fusion
as a thought it might be worth a way to put voiceover to sleep some how when you cycle through so if you command tab to vmware it goes to sleep/stops and if you cycle back to say mail then it wakes up and resumes working. Not complaining here just suggesting since i know of other screen readers that go to sleep if they’re needed to rather then staying awake if muted and interupting keystrokes. deedra waters dee...@the-brannons.com > On Jan 8, 2015, at 8:47 PM, Kliph wrote: > > That is the only way to do it.
