Zoom, and Voiceover accessibility information

2020-03-25 Thread Timothy Emmons
Good afternoon guys. I haven’t written in a while so I thought I might field a
question in hopes that somebody can help direct me where i need to go. I am a
librarian for the Library for the blind and Physically Handicapped here in
Alabama. I have a patron needing anything on voiceover and Zoom, things as far
as how to use it, how accessible etc. I’ve given him some pointers and
information but I don’t know how to host a Zoom conference, just join those
when I get invites and such. Are there instructions on using Zoom with
Voiceover either with Cattalina or IOS so he can get started? He may be
hosting a few things from time to time so was just curious. Anything anyone can
come up with would be great. Thanks.

ian and guys, my patron has gotten the book from Jonathan Mosen and is learning
like a champ. Thanks for all the resources and responses I got on this. I’ve
saved these in a folder for my future use as well later down the line. Thanks
again and take care.

Apple watch and new Apple ID

2020-04-07 Thread Timothy Emmons

Good morning all. My wife and I have shared the same Apple ID for years for
whatever reason. We're now using separate IDS. She's able to sign in on her
phone fine. However, her watch gives a notification that in order to complete a
purchase she needs to sign into my ID. Ihe's reset and re-pared the watch with
the same results. We are using the family sharing. She has been added as a
family member and I have allowed purchases and such to be shared between us.
What's going on. Does she need to sign into my ID on her watch?she shouldn't
but I wondered if I might be missing something. Any help here would be
appreciated. Thanks guys.

Using FaceTime to make phone calls with your iPhone in Hand-off

2020-04-07 Thread Timothy Emmons
Good morning y’all, I’m just loaded with questions today. I think we got the
apple watch issue solved this morning but I appreciate the accessibility number
I may need that later on. At any rate, I have another question. Since working
at home I was thinking of using FaceTime and hand-off to make and receive phone
calls while I’m working since I’m at the computer instead of juggling cell
phone and mac back and forth. I went to do this this morning and dialed my
voicemail fine, but I can’t seem to navigate to a keypad to enter the user id
and pin to access my voicemail. I can place and receive calls great, but can’t
seem to do the other. What am I missing. I used to play with this a long time
ago and without practice I have totally forgot. Thanks guys for any help here,
as always. You guys are an invaluable connection to have for sure. take care
and talk to you soon.

Re: Okay, I Think I'm Addicted, to the New Apple Journalling App for iOS 17.2 or Later

2023-12-24 Thread Timothy Emmons
Mark, this is Tim in Alabama. I agree. I hae become absolutely addicted to i
and use it daily. So much so, that I have drifted away from facebook and am in
the process of deleting my account because honestly that was what I wap uing
facebook for, and all the ads and infrequent accessibility junk made it not
worth it. The Journalig app came along and totally chaged the game for me. I
really like i⋅ Glad to see somebody else enjoying it too. Between it, and
starting to use Apple book exclusively for my reading and book consumption
lately along of course, with Bard, I'm totally ensconced in the Apple ecoysem
all the way. Merry Christmas aland Happy New Year. I hope everybody has a good

Re: Braille displays

2012-04-05 Thread Timothy Emmons
hey Becky, there are a lot of different ways to read braille, on the mac, using
lion or snow leopard which I use at work, so it's a matter of personal
preference. I use a refreshabraille on both my Ipad and now my mac, since it is
interchangeable, but i have a focus 40 blue that I use on occasion that the
state bought me for work, but I prefer the refreshabraille over that because
of its size and the keyboard isn't as clunky as on the focus, but I
digress. There are a lot of ways to translate files to read but it won't
read straight brf files, you haveto translate them into epub files that
willbe recognized by Itunes if you do it on anIdevice or translated
into text to read on thedesktop, but it canbe done. If you have any
questions about this let me know as I am a strong braillereader and
was a little aggravated when Iwent apple until I found a work-around.
but, like I said, it'sall a matter of personal preference as to what

Re: How To Import WebBraille Books Into IBooks

2012-04-18 Thread Timothy Emmons
Thanks Theresa, i appreciate this, this method is a lot easier than I was going
through the steps with so if you don't mind I am going to share this with one
of my patrons here at the library. I work with the braille collection here at
the Library for the Blind and also handle technology and alternative reading
methods and this goes right up there with what I do perfectly. Thanks for the
trick and I'll pass this along if you don't mind. I've been using web braille
on Itunes but I've been doing it the hard way using a braille translator, a
book converter, like Stanza, and all that junk, but this makes it easier.
Thanks again and take care. Talk to you soon.

Conecting a Romeo pro 50 to a Mac Mini Using Louis Braille translator

2012-04-26 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hi guys, this is Tim in Alabama. I'm still stumped on something and thought you
might be able to help. I have a Romeo pro 50 here, with a serrial connection
using a serrial to Usb adapter. I am tryng to use it with Louis Braille the
free translator that was out for the mac, and I know it can emboss but I' not
sure how to set up the printer to work. If anyone has any ideas on what
settings I need on the printer, now to get to them, and what they need to be
before Louis can recognize it and print from the serrial to usb adapter i have,
that would be great. Thanks and take care, hope to hear from you soon. This is
the mac Mni at work, running snowleopard by the way. Thanks and take care.

Re: odd question on mac sounds

2012-06-13 Thread Timothy Emmons
Ricardo I have tried this, just to see and Ihave noticed a definite difference.
VO is already snappy regardless of how you cut it but when you turn off those
effects, if you have other things set right, the snappiness is right there.
It's a nice contrast if you get tired of the sounds. And if you want them back
on, then by all means you can go back in and turn them on. I love having those
choices. Sorry had to chime in here and agree the snappy is definitely
noticeable when the effects are muted or turned off.

Re: Looking for a good stereo bluetooth headset.

2012-07-25 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hey Alison I use a Motorola HD10, which is a really good stereo bluetooth
headset. The book Port does't have bluetooth capabilities, I wish it did but
currently it does not. But, this particular headset works really well, batery
life is great and the sound is quite nice as well. Not sure if it has two modes
or not, but the buttons are very accessible and it is easy to pair with
whatever you want to pair that with. Hope this helps and you might want to take
a look at Amazon, Best Buy or something like that. But, it's the Motorola HD10,
it's a step up from the motorola S9 that was previously released. Thanks again
and tae care.

Downcast qustion

Good morning guys. I wanted to ask your opinion on Downcast for the Mac. Is it
worth the $9.99 or would I be wasting the money. I’ve got a little on a gift
card and was considering it but didn’t want to waste it if it was not worth it.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Blogging sites

2013-06-07 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hey guys, I have a question and I sent this to both the Vi-Phone list and the
Mac Visionaries list because I'm curious. I am strongly considering doing a
blog, and wondered where I would start, which sites or spots are accessible,
and hbow intensive is it to get started. Just curious. I'm not on twitter or
Facebook near as much but would love to have a writing outlet to sort of keep
going on occasion. Thanks for any help and I appreciate it. Take care and talk

Re: Blogging sites

2013-06-07 Thread Timothy Emmons
I'm taking a look here now. Thanks for the direction guys, as soon as I decide
to throw one up there and get started I'll let everyone know how to take a look
if you like. I was a big twitter and facebook nut for awhile but I sort of got
disenfranchised with both of them for different reasons and it seems like
Wordpress allows for a little more control on things and the like, so I'm
strongly considering this as an alternative and a good way to get some of my
other writing out there as well, so who knows. Thanks for all that everybody
has done to chime in and I appreciate all the help. You guys are awesome. Take
care and I'll talk to you guys soon.

Hi guys, I cross posted this because I'll take any assistance I can get. i just
started a blog on wordpress. I know there are settings and such that you can
adjust, namely putting an Rss feed to your blog. How does one navigate the
settings and features, how accessible is it using Safari and the Mac, or is it
best to use the iPhone app or is there an app that works with wordpres that
gives you more accessibility than others. Just learning my way around so I'm
curious. I would alos like to invite folks to follw and that sort of thing but
not sure how to do that. I'm also interested in linking it to goodreads and
audioboo, but haven't gotten there yet. I'm getting closer but the site seems
to refresh a lot and I've gotten a little firather in the app itselfbut I'm
still not familiar with how all the settings work. Any help would be
appreciated. I like what I see but want to do more. Thanks and talk to you

I've missed this one and thought I had it and can't find anything to show me
where I need to go and format a drive. I had a linux system that I had
downloaded some Nls books on a cartridge and some other files. In the process
Linux left a few unsavory somethings not he cartridge that I wanted to wipe

option anywhere. I used to be able to find it but i haven't had to use it in so

I had to use this then, so just a bit stuck. But, I can get info but I can't

Re: Lost all iPhone sounds including voiceover locational sounds

2013-06-22 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hey Mark, not sure if this has been tried or not but I'll v entire an idea. Try
and do a warm reboot if you will, hit the screen lock key six times in rapid
succession. This restarts the iPhone and should bring voiceover back to what it
is supposed to do. I have had that happen a few times but this seems to clear
it up without a problem. If anybody else wants to chime in, or if I've got this
wrong let me know but this is what I'd do. Thanks and hope this helps. Take
care.

Re: FCC seeks comment on Amazons request for waiver of accessibility requirements

2013-08-07 Thread Timothy Emmons
Really? A friend ofmine and a patron, were discussing this earlier. Their
excuse is, that it will make the device weigh more. how does addedda
ccessibility in software make it heavier? I know it might effect the batery but
not by that much. You can't rely on Apple to carry you folks, that's not how
this thing works. i know this is why they focus so much now on the app and have
left the devices out in hopes that Apple will carry them. I get the complaint
that it will cost money, but so what. I as a blind onsumer want or would love a
Kindle paperwhite, or a Kindle fire one day because it's just a little more
affordable for my budget than say another iPad, but you're telling me you don't
want my money and you're not going to make a device that I can use and you're
going to not give me accessibility so I can help increase your market? oor
thinking on their part. I heard about this this morning and can't believe it
but then I can. Amazon is always good about making excuses and finding
loopholes to get out of accessibility. In the same vain though, I have to say
this much. Apple set a standard that we all expect now because it just works
and is the right thing to do. Amazon has b een doing this thing a little
longer, and they've got this cloud thing down, but they have always refused to
make it accessible or sticking a bandaid over it and making it better. Don't
get me wrong, I love the app, use it daily, on both my phone and iPad, but if
one of those breaks I might want to go grab a Kindle from wherever and have it
already set up to get my books and media content just like my sighted peer over
there, or my wife. And, you're telling me no? I shouldn't have to find a
workaround to get your prodcuts to work they should say, it should be made
accessible. No questions asked, either get it done or close it up but we all
know that doesn't work that way. Ok, I'm coming off my soap box and getting
some braille books ready to send patrons this afternoon, my public is calling
for the real stuff, but that's my take. They need to rethink this whoel thing
and stop making sniveling excuses as to why, and just make it work. If we, as a
public made excuses as to why we can't do our job, you know what would happen?
Yeah. Gone. Outta here, close it up. Same principle should hold here, it should
be mandatory for things of that nature, all access, all inclusive. Done. Ok, I
stop now, take care guys. sorry for the rambble and getting off on a tangient
but when Amazon and these other Ereaders go and do something like this and I'm
excluded I'm a bit aggravated. Take care.

Request for Comment on Petition for Class Waiver of Accessibility Rules
 for ACS
On August 1, 2013, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) released a
Public Notice requesting comment on a petition filed by the Coalition of
E-Reader Manufacturers. The Coalition requests that the Commission waive
its rules requiring equipment used for advanced communications services
(ACS) to be accessible by people with disabilities. The Coalition states
that, although e-readers are equipment that consumers can use for ACS,
they are designed primarily for reading.
To distinguish e-readers from tablets and other devices that would not be
subject to the waiver request, the Coalition requests a waiver for

Re: Weird login prompt appears on my Mac Mini

2013-03-28 Thread Timothy Emmons
I have no thoughts at the moment but this happened with my mac Book Pr, that's
just about a year old maybe just a little more but not by much. I ended up
having to run a system restore not a complete reinstall but a restore or reset,
basically creating a new user account, deleting the old one and starting not
quite from scratch but close to it, and I've had no problems with it since I
did that but I've seen this not sure why it did this and when you hit guest it
goes belly up and everything flounders and dies. Voiceover would even almost
freeze on me in the middle of this thing, but I had to basically go i9n,
restart, and choose new user or guest from the main restart area, and log into
the guest account that way and recreate and shift things around to reset
everything. Hope this helps, trying to get coffee down me this morning but I've
seen it, but only in ML so not sure what's going on or if anybody can explain
it. I've not had this happen since the latest few updates so not sure what's
up. Take care and talk to you soon.

Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-01 Thread Timothy Emmons
Nope, no joke, I thought the same thing too until I tried it and actually read
a chapter and a half of a book I've been looking at on the other Kindle
keyboard with just speech, with my bluetooth braille display connected to my
iPhone. Talk about nice, and I hear that all the rest of the books are
available, no matter if speech is enabled or not now, since we can read them
with voiceover. I'm really excited, and being a librarian at the Regional
Library for the Blind here in Alabama, I've got a few patrons who are kindle
users to a degree and this is exactly what we and they have been waiting for.
I'm pumpe because my wife and I have had a kindle for a while her longer than
me, because they just a few years ago allowed for accessibility of sorts, in
the Kindle Keyboard, so we've got a ton of books, now that the app is
accessible I am going to be a reading fool. Have fun and take care.

Re: Pandora frustrations

2012-11-27 Thread Timothy Emmons
Hey guys, as far as Slacker goes, I saw where someone had posted that they had
found slacker through here. Which do you have. Do you do the free account or
the premium, and what's the difference. How accessible is the premium. Thanks.
Using Pandora currently have been for a while but may be looking for a change.
Thanks and take care. Î

Hulu, accessibility on both th phone iPad and APPLE Tv.

2018-03-13 Thread Timothy Emmons

Sent from my iPhoneHi guys, I have a curious accessibility question I need some
assistance with. I just started, or I shoud a, my family and I just go id of
cable and ae uing Hulu, Neflix, ime, and oomarang for our cable services, and
are pretty excited about it. However, I have some questions and a few issues.
Hulu, for instance. I noticed I can't seem to navigate it on the IPhone 7 plus,
or the IPad Mini. Are there some tricks that work with making it accessible
with voiceover? Is it accessible on the Apple Tv 4th Gen? Also, Boomarang seems
to have the same interface. Is there any suggestions you can give me on
that?Ne!flix is great, and so is
prime, but Hulu is my bump in the road as it were. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks for any help you can give. Take care.
