RE: Skype on the Mac made accessible?)

2012-05-01 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi folks
My husband and I got our macs only recently and I have just joined this list.
My skype starts in the home screen, but my husband's starts in the contacts
table. The only difference between us is that he has skype credits and
voicemail activated, and I don't. Could this be the reason? We have compared
our mac settings and can't see why our skype would start in different places.
Neither of us have it connected to facebook. I don't think he has premium
though - just a skype number and voicemail. Unless that is what they call
premium.
It's not a problem getting to the contacts table though, and I actually find
skype quite easy to use on the Mac, no more difficult than under windows.
Just one question: how do you read messages people send you? I really can't
figure out how to do this. Thanks.

Lisette

Lost my mailboxes table in mac mail

2012-05-01 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi all
Please can somebody tell me how to get my mailboxes table back. I can only see
my inbox and tabbing doesn't get me to my mailboxes table. It just takes me to
message content group. I've probably just pressed something I shouldn't have.
Thanks so much.

Oh I knew there was an easy answer. Thank you very much.
In my gmail account I can't see the spam, starred, all mail, travel folders
anymore. There's just an mailbox called blank under trash with nothing in it.
I don't think I've changed any of my gmail settings. Should I be in full screen
mode?
Thanks for helping a new user.

Deleting voices

2012-05-03 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi
Is it possible to delete the many compact voices one doesn't use? Do these
compact voices slow the Mac computers down at all? I have downloaded a few of
the premium ones but really can't see a use for most of the pre installed
voices.
I suspect the answer will be no but thought it worth asking.

Thanks to all for help on mailbox issues. All sorted now.

Re: deleting reminders from the I phone 4S

2012-05-04 Thread Lisette wesseling

It's really easy. Go into the reminders app. Find the reminder you want to
delete.
Just double tap on the reminder where it says "double tap to edit details. ".
Then there's a delete button pretty much in the middle of the screen.

Sound studio questions

2012-05-04 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi
I just recently got this programme and understand it's accessible. Sometimes I
can get the space bar to work as the play button, and sometimes not. The
command p does work consistently. The manual says 3 is supposed to work as the
record button but it doesn't. And sometimes the 1 and 2 buttons don't work as
rewind and fast forward.
Clearly there's something I'm not doing right as people report great success
with it.
Do you have to interact with any of the tables in order to make editing easier.
I have turned cursor tracking off, but the editing functionality is by no means
consistent.
How do you purchase/download the Lame mp3 encoder so you can save as mp3 files?
The manual doesn't tell you where to get it. I already have an app called mp3
converter which uses the lame encoder, so do I need to get anything else? I
don't understand how to link Sound Studio with the lame encoder.
Has anybody else successfully done this?
I found Robert's podcast on basic editing with Sound Studio really helpful, but
if anybody had the time to write a more detailed tutorial, or do a podcast on
how to set it up to work best with VO I would be very grateful. Like do you
zoom to selection, or to window, or doesn't it matter? What table do you have
to be in for the editing to work best?

Cheers
Lisette

Re: free m4a to mp3?

2012-05-05 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi Stacy
I have recently purchased a very accessible mp3 converter called "mp3
converter" from the app store. It was about $5 NZ so not expensive. You have to
go into the app, add the files you want to convert and it does it. Very easy to
use and not expensive. It takes all sorts of formats and converts them to MP3.
You can't just point at a file and do the convert from there - you have to go
into the app itself to do it but it does a nice job with lots of sample rate
choices. And you can do multiple files at once.

Sound studio questions

2012-05-11 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi
I'll try to keep these questions brief.
1. Once you've set two marks, how do you delete what's in between them?
Pressing command shift g and selecting set start selection to mark 1, and set
end selection to mark 2, then pressing delete key results in everything
outside the two marks being deleted, not what's in between the marks. In his
podcast, Robert doesn't even go to that "go to" menu at all, and I don't
understand how he does this.
2. If you've somehow managed to delete the correct sound, , how do you delete
the marks? They still appear to be there in the table. If you then set new
marks to delete something else, you can lose track of which marks you've used.
If you have to use the go to menu to set your selection to whichever your two
latest marks are, you could easily forget whether it was marks 1-2, 12-13 or
whatever. The marks don't seem to get deleted when you delete what's inside
them.

3. Does anybody know how to download or install the lame mp3 so you can save
sound studio files as mp3? The Sound Studio manual doesn't tell you how to do
this.

Thanks

Lisette

Understanding Finder

2012-05-29 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi Folks
I'm having real trouble understanding how to use the finder. What is the
difference between the side bar table and the list view table? Mine both seem
to show the same thing.
Does finder show all your files in some kind of random order? I'm used to
Windows XP with everything being in separate folders. I know this is no longer
the Windows way either, but any hints on using finder most effectively would be
appreciated, especially about how the two tables are different, and why they
are even both there. I think it's a conceptual thing.
Thanks

Hi Jonathan
Yes thanks that really does help.

Subject: Re: Understanding Finder

THe Side bar is a set of shortcuts. Generallly your most common folders and
several automatic icons appear there.

It is an attempt by Apple to reduce the complexity of a modern computers
disk directory. So if you select the Music icon in the sidebar then only the
folders contained in the Music folder of your home directory will be visible
in the Main viewing pane of the finder window.

THere are 4 basic views for the primary window:
1 Icon view (accessed by command-1)
2: List view (accessed by command-2)
3: Browser Mode (Accessed by Command-3)
4: Cover Flow Mode (Accessed by command-4)

Most blind users prefer either List mode or browser mode. Icom mode will
generally have icons arranged in fairly random order around the window where
they can be draged as a person prefers.
Cover flow is supposed to be like looking at a stack of Albums one or two at
a time.. You get a scrolling set of pictures of all the documents in a
folder)

THe list mode is fairly to details view on a Windows computer though I
don't remember if Windows allows one to open a folder in place in a tree
view style mode.

Browser mode takes a bit more to understand, but I prefer it 90% of the
time. With browser mode the left and right arrows traverse into and out of
folders and up and down gives you a sorted list. One issue with browser
mode is it is difficult to get filesize or dates.

Hope this helps you along the way.

Mac Mail behaving oddly

2012-06-01 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi Folks
I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's going on. In Mac Mail, I used
to be able to tab and shift tab between the mailboxes table and the message
list. I have tab set to automatically interact.
For the last few days, tabbing between the two doesn't work anymore. If I'm in
the messages list, shift tab takes me to the message content. Tabbing then
takes me back into the message list.
I can get to the mailboxes table by doing vo-j, but I kind of liked it the
other way better.
I'm sure I've pressed something without meaning to. Any suggestions? It's only
minor in the scheme of things but thanks for any help.

Re: Mac Mail behaving oddly

2012-06-01 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi Mark
Any hints on what the vertical splitter should be set at? When I interact with
it, sometimes it says 100 per cent. Vo up arrowing changes it to 97 and then
93 per cent. It never goes any lower than that. If I down arrow with vo it just
says "mail busy" forever and I have to close the window and reopen the inbox
again.
Any hints on interacting with this thing?
I've also looked for the preview pane setting but can't find it in the
preferences menu or in the main mail menu under view. I'm sure I have seen it
before though but if anybody can remind me where it is I would be grateful.

Thanks
Lisette

Re: Mac Mail behaving oddly

2012-06-02 Thread Lisette wesseling
Ronald
How did you manage to change the size of the vertical splitter? When I try to
go below 93 per cent, mail just says "busy" and I have to close and restart
mail for anything to work. I've let it say "busy" for half an hour in case it
really was busy doing something, but eventually I closed it. Did you vo down
arrow. Then did you uninteract with the splitter, or do something else to save
the new size?
I'm glad this worked for you. This gives me hope that I should keep re trying
here.

Re: question for all voice over trainers: trouble interacting with items

2012-06-04 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi Chris
I agree with Veronica here. I'm a new Mac user and don't really get interacting
either. But I'm learning by trial and error, and not stressing if I don't
understand the concept. Your ring binder analogy and the zoom camera one
actually really helped me, so thanks for those. I do know that, because I have
my tab key set to automatically interact, I'm possibly interacting with things
more than I realise. Some purists might say I shouldn't have my tab key set
that way, because I should know what I'm interacting with, but it makes it feel
a little more like Windows sometimes and it helps me get the job done.
I don't probably care enough to always know when I am, and am not interacting.
I suggest a "trial and error" approach with the student. Get her to accomplish
some simple tasks like opening and saving a file, writing and sending an email.
If she can do that, or whatever else she wants to do, the conceptual stuff may
follow later.
I never really got many of the Jaws concepts either re mouse, invisible and pc
cursor. But I knew when I needed to try the pc cursor, and how to tether the
two, to achieve what I needed.

Good luck.

getting mailboxes to show up[

2012-06-09 Thread Lisette wesseling
HI
I seem to have lost my "on my mac" mailboxes. I can see they must be there when
I go to the menu and look for "move to mailbox". But I can't see them when I

Any ideas welcome and thanks in advance.

The vertical splitter seems fine at present, so don't really want to mess with

"on my mac" inbox not showing up in mail

2012-06-10 Thread Lisette wesseling
Hi again Mark, Matt et al
So just to be clear, I can see an "on my mac" mailbox under trash, which is
empty. There is no other "on my mac" mailbox anywhere. Yet when I go to create
a new mailbox, I can see the names of the two mailboxes I've created under "on
my mac". I can't get into them from there of course, but I can see they are
supposed to be there. I've combed the menus and preferences, but can't find
anything relevant to how I might unhide this mailbox.
I will try googling this myself also. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has
experienced this problem.

My understanding is that Prismo is not worth bothering with unless you have

Not exactly. Once Prizmo is set up correctly, you select Text, take the
picture of the page, tap Use and wait for the OCR to be completed.

It takes some practice to get the knack.

Moving to top of message table

2012-06-20 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi all,
Is there a way of quickly getting to top of message table in mail?
When I do vo, fn shift left arrow, I get to a button called "select by date
menu button". I'm still at the bottom of the message table. I can obviously
arrow up but that takes a while with a large mailbox.
Any suggestions? I'm on a macbook pro hence the need for the fn key.

Re: Moving to top of message table

2012-06-21 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
Thanks to you for trying to help us figure this out.
When I follow the steps to set a short cut key to move to top of email list, it
still takes me to the "sort by date" button. vo down arrow takes me to the top
of the message list, even though I've set it to go to the visible end.
Could my inbox be set to really small size? I've pressed the zoom button but
don't actually know how big it is or should be.
Is there a way to set mail to go back to defaults, preferably without losing my
accounts and messages?

looked pretty standard when I opened it up just now.
Many thanks.

safari question re heading navigation

2012-07-08 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
I wonder if anybody can explain why, very often, safari reports there are no
next headings to be found, but when I continue to arrow right using quick nav,
I hear all sorts of headings listed. I thought that by pressing h, or the
number, it would jump to the next heading.
Sometimes, it works fine, and other times it doesn't. I presume it is something
to do with the way a website is coded, but I don't understand why Safari does
report them as you arrow along the page, but not when trying to jump to them.
As I say, in some sites it works fine, and in others it doesn't.
I don't know what mode I am in, or how to change this. Would this make a
difference? I still have so much to learn.

Re: Weird mail problem with Mountain Kitty

2012-07-26 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
I had this problem too and fixed it by
1. turning on quick nav briefly. I heard blank, blank, blank, as I arrowed down
underneath my trash folder.
2. I turned quick nav off again. Then I did vo backslash on where the first
blank was and everything got expanded again.
Sometimes vo backslash doesn't work and right arrow does. It's a bit hit and
miss.

Re: notification question:

2012-07-26 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Chenelle
Just press the actual keys you want to use for the short cut. I held down
command option and then added the n. You may even be able to press them all at
once but I held down the first two and then added the third, then let them all
go.
It really is easy. You won't hear any feedback, but if you vo left and then
right again you will hear the keystroke you just entered spoken.

Good luck.

Karen premium and Serena still change pitch randomly. The pronunciation is

Re: Busy, busy everywhere

2012-07-27 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Alex
I would actually say the opposite. There is less busy busy on my 2011 MacBook
pro with 4 gb ram than in Lion. Start up is definitely faster and I think VO is
a bit snappier.

Removing mailboxes from your favourites group

2012-07-27 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi folks
Thanks to all for answering the questions' we've all had. I've learned so much
over the last few days thanks to all the keystrokes and detailed instructions.
I learned how to drag and drop things into my favourites bar, but how do you
remove things from there. I've got 7 mailboxes there now and need to remove
some.
I think Ricardo did a podcast on this but the steps there don't work for me.
Maybe this has changed in ML.
If anybody has some ideas I'd be grateful.

Cheers
Lisette

Deleting tone

2012-07-28 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi

Can this be changed from the very high pitched tone to something else? I like
to have a tone when I'm deleting something, but the only option available is a
very high pitched one which hurts my ears. The one for mis spelled words is
better, and I seem to recall choosing that somewhere once but can't find it
anywhere.
So I'm asking about choosing the tone you hear when deleting text. I know you
can have it as pitch change, or nothing, or speak, but I want a different tone.
It may not be possible, but thought it worth asking.
Thanks

Lisette

Re: Removing mailboxes from your favourites group

2012-07-29 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Ricardo
Thanks for these detailed instructions. . Ihad already listened to your
podcast and tried it then and again now. The mouse down works fine. When I go
to do the mouse up with command vo shift spacebar, I again hear mouse down on
wherever I am in the mailbox. And then that mailbox has gone into the
favourites bar. Am I supposed to interact with the mailboxes table?
I've also somehow managed to put one mailbox inside another. It's all turning
into a bit of a mess. Is this the same as drag and drop or something else?
Where should I be in the mailboxes table when I do the up mouse? It seems to
want to be a down mouse for me. I'm using normal view and have pressed the zoom
button. Cursor tracking is on and everything is following everything.
Thanks.

Re: Mountain Lion- missing mailboxes on my Mac

2012-07-29 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Sharon
This appears to be a problem for many people. I had some success by
Pressing the zoom button at the left of the screen. I get to it bu
uninteracting with everything and vo left arrowing past the tool bar.
2. Then I right vo arrowed to the mailboxes list and went down to where I knew
the new inboxes should be. With quick nav on I heard blank which is how I knew
there was something there. With quick nav off nothing was spoken or heard.
3. IN that place I did get vo backslash to work. I might have interacted there
too, can't remember. But vo backslash did work. Now I can left and right arrow
to expand and collapse things.
I don't know if that helped any.
I've managed to put one mailbox inside another and despite the mouse down and
up instructions helpfully given by Ricardo, I can't get this to work. I'm
following everything to the letter but it's not working for me. Clearly the
mail programme is a bit temperamental. I sometimes can't interact with the text
of an email, and have to tab and shift tab a few times for the focus to come
right again.
Try zooming like I said.

Re: problems with macbook air and/or mountain Lion, help needed pls!

2012-07-30 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi William
I'm not trying to be funny, but have you tried turning up the volume on your
speakers? I know Apple devices can sometimes turn the volume down. It happened
on my iPhone a few times. Have you tried plugging in a head set to see if the
sound works there?
You can all shoot me now, but it's worth asking.
If you hear other Mac sounds, then that's not your problem and higher minds
than mine will need to step in.

Re: making appointments in 10.8

2012-07-31 Thread Lisette Wesseling

Hi William
I use command plus n exclusively for entering appointments.
In english I write something like
"dinner with x on Friday 3 August at 7 PM."
I write it exactly like that.

It puts everything perfectly into the right places in the calendar. I don't
know how it would be in Dutch, but you could try something similar.
Actually, I am Dutch myself but grew up speaking English.
I would be interested if something like "eten met x op Frijdag 3 Augustus om
1900 uur" would work.

Let me know.

Subject: making appointments in 10.8

Hello,
When I make a new appointment in 10.8, I am trying to type in the title
field something like appointment 6/08/12 13:00

ON this way, the appointment should start the 6th of august at 13:00.
Unfortunately, this seems only to work if I use the button to add a new
appointment not when I press command+n.

This was also in 10.7.
I was wondering If someone is doing it on another way of knows a way that
it should also work with command+n?

Kind regards,
William Windels

speakable items - system dialogs menu

2012-08-01 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Folks
Ever since playing with the speakable items I've got this system window on my
screen called "system dialogs menu". When I do command o to open it (the only
thing which seems to do anything) it says "speech feedback survey". I can't
close this or do anything with it. How do I get rid of it please?

Re: utterly in barest: question about mail Olmac OS X 10.8 Mountain lion

2012-08-01 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Chris
Yeah that's the one I meant. I have noticed that sometimes when I press the
zoom button, things work a bit better in mail for a while. Sometimes, it fixes
an inability to interact for instance. It was just a wild guess.
I have no sight so have no idea what the zoom button actually did.
Have you played with the sliders. Mine are at 100 % and vo backslash worked for
me initially to open disclosure triangles. Now right and left arrows do the
trick. Like you, I don't interact with the messages table either and have it in
standard view, not classic.
I wonder if the ability to customise Mac Mail to such a great extent is
actually its downfall for VO users? I mean, lots of people seem to be having
lots of issues, and not all of us can find a consistent fix? I still can't take
things out of the favourites bar despite Ricardo's excellent instructions. They
go inside other mail boxes so I've stopped trying for now.
And those buttons in between the mailboxes and messages tables are annoying if
you like to tab between them. VO j only works if you don't have a preview pane,
which I like to have open so I can hear the beginning of a message without
having to interact with the text or press enter on it to open it.
I wonder if mail a bit too customisable for its own good.

Dowloading VLC

Hi folks,
I've got the link for the VLC page, but don't know which version to
download. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro with 4 GB ram. Should I download the 32
bit or 64 bit version? I just don't want to mess things up by trying to install

Thanks.

Hi Tim,
Yes this worked thanks. The Readme file said something to this effect, but your

Setting activities

2012-08-07 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi folks,
I'm not having much luck setting up an activity for Safari. All I want is that
when Safari starts, quicknav be turned on and turned off again when I leave
Safari.
I've gone into VO Utility with vo f8.
I've chosen activity which is the last row in the table.
I've entered Safari in the first row of the activities table. I've checked the
"additional settings to include" checkbox.
I've checked quick nav.

And yet quick nav doesn't turn on when I go into Safari. Should any of the
other boxes be checked? I checked keyboard also, but this makes no difference.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

turning on attachments viewing in ML Mail

I'm doing this from within ML mail. Is there somewhere else I should be

that doesn't matter. But I want them to be able to see mee, so wonder if the
camera still works when the brightness is set to zero.

Re: Fleksy

2012-08-18 Thread Lisette Wesseling
I bought Fleksy at the full price and think it is worth every cent. I can type
as fast as a sighted person on my phone. On my iPad, I can have my fingers
spread out like qwerty fashion and go really fast. I wish some smaller words
would be ordered differently in the suggestions list (like but) but it's always
there. I actually now choose to type on the screen instead of using my
bluetooth keyboard. If people are having trouble with it, I suggest just trying
to relax and not try to find the letters. Just tap away very roughly in the
place you think the letter is, and enjoy it.

Re: Text Detective

2012-08-20 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
Anyone got any hints on using this app? I have an iPhone 4 and just got rubbish
results when I scanned something. I know the lighting was ok but obviously the
camera on the iPhone 4 is not the best. How close do you hold the camera? I was
holding it still and, I think square on. Does it mind if things are upside down?
Any hints on using this app greatly appreciated.

Bookle question

2012-08-22 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi
How do you skip between books in the bookle library sidebar table? I can move
through each chapter within the books, but not very easily from book to book. I
have two books in there at present, so this is not too arduous. But I imagine
if I had ten, it might be a little trying to arrow between chapters of each of
those ten books. Also, are you meant to use quick nav for navigating this app?
Thanks if anybody has any good tips on using bookle. I really like it for
reading Epub. It works extremely well.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the suggestion. I must be stupid but there's no playlists button

Hi Phil,
I did have iTunes set to look like the old iTunes, so I changed it to have the
pop up buttons. Still no luck though, but thanks for trying to help. I see the
playlists button and the table of playlists, but there's nothing there which
says "recently added".
It must be a pref I have set somehow so will try to figure it out. Weird

2014-02-18 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Thanks phil for your help. Looks like I'd deleted the smart playlist but a bit
of googling told me I how to recreate it. I thought it was an accessibility
thing but often these things are just normal user errors.
All sorted now. Thanks for your patience.

Re: Changing from Gmail to iCloud

2014-02-20 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi ,
You can also keep the old Apple ID but change the primary email associated with
it. This is what I have done. I've kept my old Apple ID but changed the email
address. A bit less hassle to change an Apple ID on all devices, and the emails
still come through to your new active email address.

Re: quality of music output when played from an iPod

2014-02-25 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Donna,
When you import CDS, you can choose to increase the bit rate to a higher
quality. I always import at 192 kbps as I can hear the degradation and it
bothers me.
You can choose all these settings in iTunes prefs under the general tab.
You'll have to re import your CDs again but maybe it's worth it for you.
I am not a great expert on all this sample and bit rate stuff, but I do know I
can hear it when it's too low. By default it's set at 128 kbps I think.
Check it out.

Re: Folder Action New Item Alert Now Works In Latest Mavericks Update

2014-02-28 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Teresa,
I want to thank you so much for telling us about this built in script. I had no
idea having your downloads folder alert you was possible, or had been possible
but was broken until now.
I now get a dialog saying something has downloaded. I also seem to get one when
it initiates the download. Is this normal - to get a dialog notification at the
start and end? It's quite nice to know the file has started downloading
actually, but I wondered if you are meant to get it twice? It is nice not to
have to physically go check the downloads folder anymore. Very cool and easy to
set up .
When setting it up, I could only get to the folder actions menu with vo-shift-m
when pointing to the downloads folder, , not through vo-m. But it worked and
that's all I'm bothered about.
 .
Many thanks.

Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.

2014-03-13 Thread Lisette Wesseling
What's wrong with just touching the phone? I know it's a small bug but in the
scheme of things it's surely not a show stopper. Yes Apple needs to know about
it but to say it's "unacceptable" is a little strong methinks.

Re: The bug for Messaging on the I phone.

2014-03-13 Thread Lisette Wesseling
I just mean you can touch the screen somewhere near the edit field towards the
bottom of the screen. Double tapping there then lets you write in the edit
field.
I just don't agree it's that unacceptable in the general scheme of things.
Apple fixed a lot in the latest 7.1 release, including elimination of the focus
issues when using the on screen keyboard.

It does work. I've had somebody on skype listen to me and the Mac through

By far the easiest way.
Hope it works for you.

deleting addresses from autofill in mail

2014-03-24 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi,
Hopefully somebody understands what I mean here.
How can I delete recently sent-to email addresses from mail? I don' mean in the
contacts, but somewhere in mail there's a place you can see a table of all
email addresses the Mac knows about and you can delete them. This stops mail
auto filling that particular email address. I can't find it for the life of me
now.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Experience Switching to Mac

2014-04-06 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Another deficit on the Mac is braille translation and music braille
translation. I have to continue to use Windows for this.
I have also not found a way of importing my old Outlook Express emails into Mac
Mail. Supposedly some expensive apps do this, but it's not guaranteed to work
so haven't spent the money. Wy Apple doesn't make this work I don't know.
That said, I love the Mac and use it exclusively for my personal needs. It's
just some professional tasks I still need Windows for. This includes word
processing which I, too find clunky on the Mac. But, maybe I need to take a
course and learn it properly.

Hi,
Coming late to this, but I absolutely agree. It's the worst example of iBook

difficult to read with VO. Personally, I would not have released it in this

Selecting non-contiguous items

2014-04-18 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi,
Can somebody please explain how to do this? I'm not having any luck using vo
enter.
In finder, in list view, I'm interacting with the table of documents. I press
vo enter twice on the first item. I move down to the next item but one (with or
without vo keys held down), and press vo enter again. I hear "no row
selected". Command c to copy to the clipboard does nothing.
I'm sure I'm doing something obvious wrong but can't figure it out. Thanks for
any help.
Does it not work in list view? Should I interact or not? Should I arrow down
with or without vo keys?

Many thanks. I didn't realise you needed to add the command key to the enter
and lift it when arrowing down.Oh Kevin, in Mavericks it's command enter, not
command space I believe. But it works now. Thanks to this awesome list.

If your braille display has no keys, you won't be able to do anything but read.
You will have to use the Mac keyboard to quit apps.

Re: iOS 7.1.1 and some problems

2014-05-07 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi William,
Yes I have found the same as you. Sometimes, touching different parts of the
screen and trying to find the start date etc manually helps sort things out.
But I agree it is a bug and will report it to apple myself.

Re: expanding andfolders in list view

2014-05-08 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Dave,
So what's the difference between opening and expanding. I mean, if you open
something, why does one need to expand it as well? I find some folders in
Finder need expanding, and others don't. Folders deeper in the file structure
seem to need expanding, whereas ones closer to the surface don't. Do you know
why this is?
Just curious as I'm still learning so much about the Mac two years on.

Re: how can i transfer all my icloud photos on my mac?

2014-05-14 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi,
I've been wondering about this too, so am asking another question.
So if my photos are on my Mac in photo stream, do I have to import them into
iPhoto in order for them not to be deleted when I delete a photo from my
phone's camera roll? I've been copying them to another pictures folder I made
just to be safe, but don't want duplicates if I absolutely know they will
remain in iPhoto even if I delete them from my phone.
Syncing is still something I struggle to fully understand the finer details of.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for this. I did see some of those earlier posts but still don't
understand what you mean by the following:

How do you delete something from your photo stream on an iPhone. I thought you
could only delete them from your camera roll, but does this still leave them in
the cloud somewhere? Still slightly confused but hopefully this helps somebody
else too.

Reminders have gone a bit weird

2014-05-16 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi folks,
Has anybody else experienced their reminders being an hour out over the last
few days? I have a regular one which is showing correctly to go off at 8 AM,
but it actually goes off at 9 AM now.
Our clocks haven't changed recently or anything like that.
Just curious if anybody else has noticed this.

Re: notification center

2014-05-25 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Jean,
I think somebody answered your question about the image reports of no faces
earlier. It's in the VO Utility / speech / help tags. By setting it to "do
nothing", help tags, which is what those image descriptions are, will not be
announced.
You won't get any other help tags announced either though. I think there is a
keystroke to have the help tag spoken on the fly which I can't find right now.

I can't answer your question about the notification centre, sorry.
