Hi Katey,

Thanks I was not aware that I have to opt in. I’m not sure I want to since I am
a sceptic.

Thanks.

Hey,

I noticed while I updated my iPad and my iPhone 15 Pro Max the same thing. I
picked up both devices and there was nothing on the screen so I held the power
button in on both devices and then it powered on.

Also, you have to opt into Apple Intelligence under Siri.

not a major jump in versions and the only reason I can think of is that 18.1 is

added to the frustration of this was the fact I called Apple Accessibility and
the rep could not determine that the phone was still going through the update

RE: Bad Experience With IOS 18.1 Update.

2024-11-01 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani ' via MacVisionaries
Hi Pete,

Actually at the start of doing the update I was not connected to a power
source. I have never plugged the phone in for updates, only my Mac Book.
However, at one point during this process I did connect an AC adapter even
though the phone was about 70% charged. And, the Ac was through the connector
that physically plugs into the phone, not my charging pad. It was after
connecting to power that I finally got back to a sign in screen. I don’t know
maybe it helped and maybe it was just timing.

Hi Eileen,

I’m sure you probably did it this way, but if I don’t do an update with the
phone plugged in to my Mac is to make sure it’s plugged into a wall adapter.
For me at least, things always go much more quickly when the phone is connected

RE: Bad Experience With IOS 18.1 Update.

2024-11-01 Thread 'Eileen Scrivani ' via MacVisionaries
Herbie,

You reminded me, the tech did ask if I could connect to a computer. However, my
Mac Book pro is now about 10 years old and the cable that came with the new 15
Pro phone will not plug into the ports on the older computer. So that option
was out of reach. I am thinking of getting a new Mac computer some time soon.
Also, the phone rep today was telling me that I could use any older charging
cable to plug into my newer phone to connect to the Mac Book -- I think not!
They are different connectors. What a mess that would have been.

In the past their accessibility has been helpful and good, but lately, I’m not
feelin it so much any more.

Re: Ray-Ban Meta and voiceover output

2024-11-01 Thread Paul Mimms
Although the speakers may be considered to be bone conduction, they are
actually small speakers themselves. In fact, the volume can be turned up loud
enough so that others around you can actually hear what you’re listening to,
compromising any sense of privacy. I don’t believe the qualities is all that
bad given that they are as small as they are and located where they are. Keep
in mind that not only do you have voiceover coming through the speakers, since
we are using voiceover as visually, impaired or blind users, but we also have
the voice output inherent in the Meta, operating system, as well. In fact, you
can use both for some of the same function, such as, making calls, sending
messages, reading messages, and other functions, given that they are actually
using the phone as a lot of their operating system Back up. Also, keep in mind
that the glasses were not created for use with people that are blind or
visually impaired. It is just a very fortunate consequence for those of us that
are blind or vision impaired, that the glasses do so well, and performing task
that we need to accomplish, And that they will be able to increase the
functionality we needas Meta pays more attention to the fact that they are
usable by us. That is what’s happening right now in terms of development.

Mark on iPhone 16 Pro Max, Finally!

2024-11-01 Thread MacVisionaries
Hello All,

I was near one of my local Apple Stores, yesterday, so decided to stop in
to see if they had the phone I’ve been waiting for. Lo and behold, they
did.

I am now the proud owner of an iPhone 16 Pro Max, 1TB, black on black on
black on black, of course.

I think I set a personal purchasing record, yesterday. We actually timed
it, although trying to beat some kind of record was certainly not my goal.
Okay, the entire purchase process from the time when we actually stepped
into the store, located a sales person, had all of the items brought out
including a screen protector, case, and a couple of cables, have the screen
protector installed on the phone, used Apple Pay to buy the items, have a
receipt both emailed to me and also have a hardcopy of the receipt printed,
have everything placed in a bag, and exit, the store took, get ready for
it, 4 minutes and 58 seconds.

Insane, right

And, I might add, it was one of the most pleasant Apple experiences I’ve
ever had. The sales person was absolutely the best. And, in no way was
the store empty of customers; in fact it was comfortably full of customers.

As we crossed the threshold of the store, back into the mall, an also
exiting customer said to me, “I’ve never seen anything like that; man but
that was fast.” Of course I greeted him and smiled.

He then asked, “Are you some kind of professional buyer?” To which I
replied, “No. Just a man who knows what he wants and how to ask for it.”
Be both laughed and went our separate ways.

Mark

Re: Bad Experience With IOS 18.1 Update.

2024-11-01 Thread Herbie Allen
What they neglected to mention is that you need the UsBc to lighting adapter
for your old cord to work, but you have to purchase them. A USBA to UsBC cord
would also work for your older Mac. But yes, getting a newer one is a good idea
and you’ll notice a major difference in the performance.

Wow! I'm amazed at how little time that purchase took! I'm glad you had such a
quick, pleasant experience at the Apple Store. It always takes me longer, but I
like to be able to touch all of the phone cases and choose the one that feels
best in my hand, and I often have them help me with setup of the new device. I
hope you love your 16 Pro Max as much as I love my 16 Pro!

Re: Ray-Ban Meta and voiceover output

2024-11-01 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Yes, Voice Over works through the speakers builtin on the frame. It's
bone conducting. There's nothing obstructing the ear. Sound is emitted a
little bit forward of your ears from the glasses stems.

I experience a slight lag on my iPhone SE.

I wish it were possible to pan Voice Over. I don't usually care to have
mono sound on both sides of my head when a specific panned position
would suffice. To my thinking that would provide less obstruction to
environmental sound.

Best,
Janina
