I’ve used Apple Pay a couple of times on my iPhone and it’s worked well. I’ve
only used it in one location though so far.

All the best

Re: Anyone else using Apple Pay or an Apple Card?

2024-03-07 Thread Phil Hammerslough
Oh, that’s really great to hear! I’ve been using Venmo & PayPal, both pretty
easy, but this gives another couple of options! Speaking of options, I
recently got a new iPhone and put a sturdy screen protector on it. Lo &
behold, it really interfered with the hand options; it took me about three
weeks it wasn’t me or the phone that was having trouble getting those commands
to work: it was the screen protector! Can anyone suggest a thinner screen
protector?

Best,

Hi Anders,

That’s interesting. Don’t know why that wouldn’t work, but then, I’m sort of
new to all this. :)

Apple Pay worked quite well for me yesterday, though it wasn’t an App Store
transaction. Have you ever thought about just adding money to your account and
using that to make purchases?
Cheers,
Donna

Re: Anyone else using Apple Pay or an Apple Card?

2024-03-07 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
I received my Apple Card when I bought my M2 laptop. There's nothing
different about it, other than it's slightly thicker and slightly longer
and wider than other credit cards.

Managing your financials in Wallet works very well. I have had no
accessibility issues with that aspect.

I'm actually curious about using Apple Pay out in the wild. Is phone
proximity to the payment terminal sufficient for the transaction? Or
should one expect to need to authenticate, perhaps with fingerprint or
face recognition at some frequency? My Mini SE has fingerprint but not
face recognition. Unfortunately, fingerprint recognition can become
somewhat unreliable as one ages, and I resemble that remark.

Best,
Janina

Hi Janina,

I had to authenticate using Face ID. I believe you have to do that every time,
otherwise it wouldn’t be secure.

Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi all,

Related to our discussion about Apple Pay, I’m curious about how it works on
the watch. It seems like it would be super convenient to just hold your wrist
up to the reader, except that you can’t authenticate with face or Touch ID. So
do you then have to enter your password every time? That seems like it would
be a hassle, and also like everyone around you would be able to hear your
password. How do people deal with that issue?
TIA,
Donna

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread Tom Rash
You don’t need a pass word or authentication. I think the reason for that is
that When you put the watch on you need to enter the password, so that takes
care of the authorization.

I use a Belton tempered glass screen protector. You can get it from Amazon.

Re: Anyone else using Apple Pay or an Apple Card?

The Apple Store app does not use Apple Pay.
It uses the default payment you have on file in your Apple ID.

You must authenticate every AppleApple Pay transaction with either touch ID or
Face ID, which of course depends on which iPhone model you have.

Managing your financials in Wallet works very well. I have had no

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread Brad Snyder
Your Apple Watch is unlocked in advance. This is either done through entering a
passcode on your watch or unlocking your iPhone if you have that feature
enable. This suffices for authentication. No further authentication is needed
at time of transaction. Just hold your watch up to the terminal, and press the
side button twice quickly. That's it.

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread Brad Snyder
You should not be required to enter a password on your watch every time you
check the time.
You need to unlock your watch after you put it on, and you are good until you
take the watch off.
Unlocking your watch can be done by entering the passcode on the watch, or
unlocking your iPhone.
I have mine setup to unlock using my iPhone, and rarely have to actually enter
the passcode on the watch.
Been doing it that way since I got my first watch in 2015.

You can also authenticate using your passcode if Touch ID or Face ID isn't

Hi Janina,
I had to authenticate using Face ID. I believe you have to do that every time,

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I’ve had an Apple Watch since the first watch was released in april 2015, and
have only ever been required to unlock the watch once after putting it on,
either by using the passcode on the watch, or by unlocking the iPhone to which
the watch is paired.
Unless you take the watch off for some reason, I can’t imagine why you would
need to re-enter the passcode on the watch.

This is true, unless you have enabled the new Stolen Device Protection feature.
When Stolen Device Protection is enabled, then passcode bypass is disabled, and
only biometric authorization is allowed.

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Brad:

I want to focus on one phrase in your email: "Unless you take the watch
off for some reason."

How literally do I take that? Do you sleep with it on? Shower?

I cannot see myself playing piano with a watch on. It never worked in
the past, and I can't imagine I'd be comfortable wearing a watch while
playing Beethoven today. My reason is that I would bump into the watch
in those passages that called for cross hand motion, i.e. the raght hand
coming across the left for some musical phrase.

So, were I to get one, it would come on and off my hand quite regularly.
How would that work? Would I need to authenticate again and again? If it
matters I can say that my iphone will never be far away--very much in
bluetooth range.

Re: Apple Pay on Apple Watch?

2024-03-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I don't see what this has to do with anything. I put the watch on in the
morning, and I take it off at night. As long as it stays on my wrist, it
remains unlocked. I certainly don't use Apple Pay while I'm sleeping.

unable to do this because I need to enable access to external media.
This is done in Startup Security Utility after opening macOS Recovery.
At this point I should find the Utilities menu. All I see on the menu
bar is Apple, and Recovery.

Make sure you are booting into the right partition. I think there are a couple
to choose from in the recovery window.
