RE: Airplay confusion.

2019-05-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Tim,

Ok, so the one I have is a newer one as it does I believe 802.11N but still
can’t be updated with firmware and is really not much use other than a range
extender in the back of the house.

It’s ok, it’s only my unused GYM in that area.

The older ones I’ve only seen once and that was in a work colleagues office.

Simon,

I guess that there's old and older then. The older ones looked like the
charging brick for an Apple laptop. You could plug it directly into the wall,
or put the extension cable on it and place it anywhere. The newer, or old,
ones, looked more like an Apple TV 2 or 3 model. The older ones did not have
as modern of WiFi connectivity options, slower processors, and could not be
upgraded as far from a software prospective.

Hi,

It's possible that it's the fault of the older Airport Express as you've
suggested. The processor in the older one is slower, it does not support all
the same features as the newer models, and usually only updates to a version of
software that does not support all the newer features. These, of course, are
just educated guesses as I don't have an older Express around to confirm.

But when i am connected to the newer airport express and do the same the music

Also the newer express device is called something like multirout or something

Is this because the newer airport express has support for airplay 2?
If so then i have to try to find a refurbished one for my kitchen.

something with the larger screen. Just wondering what the best viewing
experience for Amazon Prime Video might be? Again how is the app on iOS for

I thought I would pose this question, since Apple just announced the update of
the iPod touch today. It will have the a10 processor, the same one that is in
an iPhone 7 or 7+. That makes it two years old going on three, just like my
iPhone 7 Plus. No other significant changes that I am aware of, except the
space. The cheapest one has 32 GB for $200, 128 for 300, and 256 for 400.
Earlier this year, they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That
is the current chip. I can’t remember the prices for iPad mini, but my gut
reaction when I saw this, it was that Apple was cheeping out. They should have
given us at least the A 11 if not the 12th. I am really disappointed. I was
looking forward to perhaps purchasing an iPod touch, but now that I see that it
has the same processor as my iPhone 7 Plus, forget it.

2019-05-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
You should be able to use,
Shift, ctrl hold down the fn key and hit left arrow if your on a mac book this
should highlight everything from your location to the top of your list or Home.

If your on an iMac with a full sized keyboard,

Hold down shift, ctrl and hit the home key on your keyboard,
This is the key second key up from the Up arrow key in the upside down T of

Hi folks.
I’m in a folder of files and I’m about 10 files down.
Is there a way to select from where you are, to the first file?
I’d do this on windows with shift+ home, then do what ever with said files.

Thought I'd let you know that Apple has just been in touch to say thank you

So, do feel free to email them in if you haven't already. With hope they'll be
pushed higher up their wish list and implemented in the not too distant.

Hey Simon,

It works really well. And if you own your phone outright when you upgrade, you
have a constant upgrade path for your iPod. I've been very happy doing it this

Re: Airplay confusion.

2019-05-30 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Simon,

Yeah, I just use mine as extenders and AirPlay devices. I have a Bose sound
bar at the back of the house by the garden door. I can then stream iTunes to
that sound bar, open the window and have music out in the back yard while
sitting outside having a cool one. I can also just pull out my iPhone and use
the iTunes Remote app to switch songs without even getting out of my recliner.
Life's rough eh?

These, of course, are
just educated guesses as I don't have an older Express around to confirm.

when connected to bouetooth.
But when i am connected to the newer airport express and do the same the music

Also the newer express device is called something like multirout or something

Is this because the newer airport express has support for airplay 2?
If so then i have to try to find a refurbished one for my kitchen.

Re: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-30 Thread Mary Otten
The new iPod has the home button. It does not have touch ID. Just the good old
home button like all the previous iPods have had. It’s basically the same exact
design except for the A10 instead of the eight, and more memory. But 32 GB is
still ridiculous.

Dragging and dropping on the Mac

2019-05-30 Thread Ronald van Rhijn
Hi list,

What are your experiences with dragging and dropping on the Mac? I probably
never managed to succesfully do it when I tried it and have tried it it for the
last two days, without succes again.

This is what I am trying to do and how I do it:

I want to drag an app onto another app. I open the app on which the other app
has to be dropped.
Then I open up the Application folder, select the desired app and then press
vo+comma to mark it for dragging.
After that I switch with command+tab to the destinated app and press vo+period.
I hear some moving sound, but get the message that it could not be dropped.
I have been thinking that its perhaps only possible when both app and Finder
windows are visible, but have no idea if this is the case and how to get it
done if possible.

Copying and pasting doesn’t work either.

Anyone have some advice or ideas?

Lots of thanks in advance!

Ronald

Re: Dragging and dropping on the Mac

2019-05-30 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

That version of Drag & Drop does not normally work in the situation you're
outlining. Try using the original Drag & Drop method. Make sure that the app
window where you wish to drop is open. Navigate to the Applications folder,
navigate to the app you wish to drag, press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if on a laptop)
to pick it up. VO will announce "Mouse down". Use App Chooser to get to the
app where you plan to drop, navigate to the drop locations, press VO-cmd-f5
(add FN if on a laptop) to drop. VO will announce "Mouse up" to let you know
that it was released.

Sometimes, even this method will not work. Drag &b Drop is an awkward method
for these sorts of actions, but it appears that many developers like to use it
for the sighted world.

Come to think of it, yes, there is. I remember looking at it when I was using
the Apple TV before I boxed it back up and put it away. There isn’t one for the
earlier generations, but for the latest Jan yes.

Re: Any Greek speakers on this list?

2019-05-30 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello.
I am a Greek native speaker but unfortunately I am not running 10.14 and
therefore I can’t help you.
However, If you mean that the Greek voice spells out everything and not
speaking Greek properly, then, as far as I know, the problem is still there.

Nektarios.

Re: Dragging and dropping on the Mac

2019-05-30 Thread Ronald van Rhijn
Tim, me again… dont work here. When I press vo+cmd+F5 Voice Over doesnt say
anything about the mouse being down, only something like Capital I or word I.
The FN key I dont have to use on my full size keyboard.
Is there perhaps some Voice Over setting I should change? Or is the OS X
version of influence? I still run Sierra.

thanks,
Ronald

Re: Dragging and dropping on the Mac

2019-05-30 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Sorry, I led you astray. I missed a command in the instructions. Too much
going on here, I guess. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Try
these instructions instead:

1. Make sure that the app window where you wish to drop is open.
2. Navigate to the Applications folder.
3. Navigate to the app you wish to drag.
4. press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if on a laptop) to make sure that the mouse is
where VO is announcing.
5. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to pick it up. VO will announce "Mouse down".
6. Use App Chooser to get to the app where you plan to drop.
7. Navigate to the drop location, press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if on a laptop) to
bring the mouse to VO.

For #7, make sure that you've interacted with the area where you're supposed to
drop if it is a table, scroll area or some other special element.

8. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to drop. VO will announce "Mouse up" to let you
know that it was released.

That's what I get for being in a hurry and not checking over my instructions.
Hope this works better for you.

Later...

The FN key I dont have to use on my full size keyboard.
Is there perhaps some Voice Over setting I should change? Or is the OS X
version of influence? I still run Sierra.

thanks,

I think on a full size keyboard, the fn key is directly above delete. I don't
know if you need it for this or not though. it would be sort of hard to do all
those keys at once.

2019-05-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Donna,

I've in the passed sold my phones on to either family members or other parties,

Might be time to keep it for the iPod,

Yes I only have the buy option either outright from day one or over 1 2 or 3
years.

Hey Simon,

It works really well. And if you own your phone outright when you upgrade, you
have a constant upgrade path for your iPod. I've been very happy doing it this
way.
Cheers,
Donna

Hi Tim,

Just for my own mind,
You say old / newer,
I thought apple stopped producing airport express / extreme devices a couple of
years ago?

What is the older device,
I have an express which I believe was the last model produced but would love
to update if they had a newer version.

Hi!
I have 2 airport express devices in my Apartment.
One older and one of the newer ones.
When i get for example a call or want to ask siri about something and i am
connected to the older airport express the music interupts as it used to do
when connected to bouetooth.
But when i am connected to the newer airport express and do the same the music
continues to play like nothing has happend.
Also the newer express device is called something like multirout or something
like that.
Is this because the newer airport express has support for airplay 2?
If so then i have to try to find a refurbished one for my kitchen.

RE: New iPod touch announced

2019-05-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah just read a mac rumours report on it, it's twice as fast as the previous
version of the ipod,
 And better graphics.

If the price wasn't so bad it would be ok, but not what they want for them here
will I be buying one.

The new iPod has the home button. It does not have touch ID. Just the good old
home button like all the previous iPods have had. It’s basically the same exact
design except for the A10 instead of the eight, and more memory. But 32 GB is
still ridiculous.

I thought I would pose this question, since Apple just announced
the update of the iPod touch today. It will have the a10 processor,
the same one that is in an iPhone 7 or 7+. That makes it two years
old going on three, just like my iPhone 7 Plus. No other
significant changes that I am aware of, except the space. The
 cheapest one has
 32 GB for $200, 128 for 300, and 256 for 400. Earlier this year,
they released the iPad mini five, with the A 12 chip. That is the
current chip. I can’t remember the prices for iPad mini, but my gut
reaction when I saw this, it was that Apple was cheeping out. They
should have given us at least the A 11 if not the 12th. I am really
disappointed. I was looking forward to perhaps purchasing an iPod
touch, but now that I see that it has the same processor as my iPhone 7
 Plus, forget it.
