Iphone slow on wifi.

2016-02-02 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
This is so strange i have to ask about it here.
I hope someone can clear things out for me.
I have a 100mbps cable internet connection.
The cable modem is configured just to be a modem and not a router.
I have connected one of my airport express via ethernet to the modem and the
two other airport devices, one airport extreme and one other express is
connected wirelessly to the airport express connected to the modem.
SO far so good and the airport is set to be a nat and it just works out well.
Now to the strange issue.
When i check the speed with a app from the swedish telephone and postal service
which decides how operators should work and so on.
I do the test with their app on my Iphone and only get 17mbps download speed
and 11mbps upload.
Going to their site with my mac gives me 65mbps with their built-in test on
their site.
Note that my mac and iphone did the test at the same place in the apartment.
I have tried moving around with my Iphone and do more testing but it does not
give me more than 17 or maybe 20Mbps.
The same with my ipod touch 5th gen and my ipad mini 2.
Any ideas?
/A

Re: Iphone slow on wifi.

2016-02-02 Thread Jeffrey Shockley
Hello,
I’ve seen this before. If you’re not using it, try turning off Bluetooth
whenever you’re not using it, and try testing again. As strange as it sounds,
it works. At least, it did for me. So, hopefully, if you do this on all your
devices you are having problems with, this will fix it for you. :) If not, try
resetting network settings in Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings, I
think it is.
I hope this helps,

Hello,

Is the Mac hard wired or is that too wirelessly connected. I’d expect a hard
wired device to be more efficient.

Re: Iphone slow on wifi.

2016-02-02 Thread Scott Granados
What type of iPhone is this? What band are you using 2.4 or ughz and is this
802.11N or AC or B/G? Would like to know a bit more about the setup. The
airports you’re using are very capable across bands so it depends on the
specific iPhone you have.

Since it’s apple all the way though I would have expected more performance.

I'd start with System Preferences then Users & Groups then check the

Could be interference but you’d think your Mac would be impacted also depending
if they are in similar places in the house.

I’m leaning towards interference but the Mac is making me question that.

I have connected one of my airport express via ethernet to the modem and

When i check the speed with a app from the swedish telephone and postal

I do the test with their app on my Iphone and only get 17mbps download

Going to their site with my mac gives me 65mbps with their built-in test

Note that my mac and iphone did the test at the same place in the

The same with my ipod touch 5th gen and my ipad mini 2.

Is Java safe to install in Windows VM's?

2016-02-02 Thread Phil Halton
I am using a website that relies on Adobe flash player and Java applets. I
remember from the days of windows before I went completely over to mac that
Java was replete with security holes. I remember it was recommended to
uninstall java for a while there. Has it been fixed to the point where it's OK
to install Java in your Internet explorer browser without exposure to a lot of
security risks?

Re: Is Java safe to install in Windows VM's?

2016-02-02 Thread Scott Granados
You can’t use internet explorer with out security risks.:)

One of the benefits of using a VM is you can contain the damage so it’s a
little less critical. Now if this is your VM you do all your banking from and
such I wouldn’t recommend it but the advantage of VMs is you can spin up all
you need with out the expense of physical hardware and resources. So are there
security issues yes, are they a problem for you, probably not since you’re
limiting the blast radius by being with a VM. Maybe someone more development
minded would respond with greater clue but if it were me I’d say this is the
reason or a reason we use VMs to help keep isolated environments.

How’s that?

Activity Monitor

Hello list,
I'm wondering why does activity monitor show processes that are no longer
opened?
For instance, calculator was once opened, I closed it, but activity monitor
still shows it.
I try and reload VO, just in case, but it doesn't help.
Any workaround for this?
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Did you close the calculator by quitting or minimizing or how?

In unix operating systems the process ID will still appear if it’s running in

Here is how it can be done:

1. Navigate to the object to be dropped.
2. Press VO-comma on the object
3. Navigate to the location to drop the object.
4. Press VO-period.

At this point the system will move the mouse cursor to the object and then
move and drop the object at the location choosen in step 3. You need to
wait for this to take place when finished when done you will hear a notice
telling you what happened.

Please Join Me in Requesting That a Significant VoiceOver and iOS Twitter App Bug Be Resolved

2016-02-02 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries mailing
list.

A couple of months ago, a new feature was added to Twitter, called Moments.
Essentially, Twitter Moments is a birds-eye view of current events happening
around the world. It's really quite an exciting way to easily follow
trending issues of the day on a variety of subject including news, sports,
entertainment, etc.

If you log into your Twitter account using your preferred web browser, you
will discover the Moments tab located near the top of the browser window.

However, should you open the native iOS Twitter app, the Moments tab is
nowhere to be found. This has been perplexing me for a while now until I
discovered the problem, said problem being a bug between VoiceOver and the
Native Twitter app.

I will paste in the bug report I posted to the iTunes App Store, following
my signature and I invite everyone to please submit a review to the App
Store describing this bug. Feel free to use any or all of my report in your
review.

Also, I encourage all of you Twitter users to send a tweet to both @support
and @twitter from within your preferred Twitter client, addressing this
issue.

With so many important world events taking place at this time, I feel that
it is most urgent that we, as blind and low vision citizens, be part of the
conversation.

Thank you,

Mark
[BEGIN BUG REPORT]
A Bug With Twitter Moments and VoiceOver in iOS

Twitter moments is one of the most exciting new features now being enjoyed
by thousands of iOS Twitter app users.

However, when VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the
blind and low vision, is enabled, the Moments Tab, does not appear. In
order to get the Moments Tab to be displayed, VoiceOver must first be
disabled, then the Twitter app must be launched, then, VoiceOver re-enabled
at which time a Twitter warning message appears prompting the blind or low
vision person to close and restart Twitter with VoiceOver enabled. Of
course, doing this will cause the Moments Tab to, once again, disappear.

I urge Twitter to address this accessibility bug as soon as possible.
[END BUG REPORT]

If you have a hearing loss, you may not hear it. But, iMessage does give an

Re: Please Join Me in Requesting That a Significant VoiceOver and iOS Twitter App Bug Be Resolved

2016-02-02 Thread Ben J. Bloomgren
Being that it's a bird's eye view, is it something that's visual/graphical?
If that be the case, then Voiceover would probably not be able to handle it,

Subject: Please Join Me in Requesting That a Significant VoiceOver and iOS
Twitter App Bug Be Resolved

Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries mailing
list.

A couple of months ago, a new feature was added to Twitter, called
Moments.
Essentially, Twitter Moments is a birds-eye view of current events
happening

around the world.

Feel free to use any or all of my report in
your

review.

Also, I encourage all of you Twitter users to send a tweet to both
@support

and @twitter from within your preferred Twitter client, addressing this
issue.

With so many important world events taking place at this time, I feel that
it is most urgent that we, as blind and low vision citizens, be part of
the

conversation.

Thank you,

In
order to get the Moments Tab to be displayed, VoiceOver must first be
disabled, then the Twitter app must be launched, then, VoiceOver
re-enabled

at which time a Twitter warning message appears prompting the blind or low
vision person to close and restart Twitter with VoiceOver enabled. Of
course, doing this will cause the Moments Tab to, once again, disappear.

I urge Twitter to address this accessibility bug as soon as possible.
[END BUG REPORT]

Re: text messages on the mac

2016-02-02 Thread Christohper-Mark Gilland

OK, a few things.

I've not admittedly been following this thread too closely, but as for the
send voice button, if you hit vo+space on it, then speak. When done,
VO+Space again to stop recording. Then, navigate to the send button, and
hit vo+Space.

If you're sending just a normal text based SMS or IMessage, then just hit
return to send off your message.

As for what Ben told you with the asending and descending tone, that can be
changed within the preferences of the Messages app simply by openning up the
app on the mac, then hitting command+Comma. I'm not totally sure where the
setting is in there, so it may take a small bit of pecking around, but I
assure you, it's there and will be incredibly obvious when you see it.

2016-02-02 Thread Christohper-Mark Gilland
No Ben. Mark is on to something here. This is definitely a very valid bug.
Visually, the tab is there, but when he says quote: bird eye's view, he
doesn't mean like a map view. He's using the term more loosely to mean you
can quickly home in on different parts of the world having events. Don't
over-annalyze it. LOL! Smile.

It's all good. I agree though. This does need to be
fixed/addressed/reported.

Chris.

Being that it's a bird's eye view, is it something that's
visual/graphical? If that be the case, then Voiceover would probably not
be able to handle it, making the need of that message clear.

It's really quite an exciting way to easily follow
trending issues of the day on a variety of subject including news,
sports,

entertainment, etc.

If you log into your Twitter account using your preferred web browser,
you

will discover the Moments tab located near the top of the browser window.

However, should you open the native iOS Twitter app, the Moments tab is
nowhere to be found. This has been perplexing me for a while now until I
discovered the problem, said problem being a bug between VoiceOver and
the

Native Twitter app.

I will paste in the bug report I posted to the iTunes App Store,
following

my signature and I invite everyone to please submit a review to the App
Store describing this bug. Feel free to use any or all of my report in
your

review.

Also, I encourage all of you Twitter users to send a tweet to both
@support

and @twitter from within your preferred Twitter client, addressing this
issue.

With so many important world events taking place at this time, I feel
that
it is most urgent that we, as blind and low vision citizens, be part of
the

conversation.

Thank you,

Mark
[BEGIN BUG REPORT]
A Bug With Twitter Moments and VoiceOver in iOS

Twitter moments is one of the most exciting new features now being
enjoyed

by thousands of iOS Twitter app users.

However, when VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the
blind and low vision, is enabled, the Moments Tab, does not appear. In
order to get the Moments Tab to be displayed, VoiceOver must first be
disabled, then the Twitter app must be launched, then, VoiceOver
re-enabled
at which time a Twitter warning message appears prompting the blind or
low

vision person to close and restart Twitter with VoiceOver enabled. Of
course, doing this will cause the Moments Tab to, once again, disappear.

I urge Twitter to address this accessibility bug as soon as possible.
