You can’t use internet explorer with out security risks.:) One of the benefits of using a VM is you can contain the damage so it’s a little less critical. Now if this is your VM you do all your banking from and such I wouldn’t recommend it but the advantage of VMs is you can spin up all you need with out the expense of physical hardware and resources. So are there security issues yes, are they a problem for you, probably not since you’re limiting the blast radius by being with a VM. Maybe someone more development minded would respond with greater clue but if it were me I’d say this is the reason or a reason we use VMs to help keep isolated environments.
