Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
You do have high speed networks available in your part of Oregon. I know
Verizon offers LTE there and I would assume T-Mobile and AT&T do as well. Not
sure if Sprint has finished that area yet. You would benefit from LTE though.

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
Apple Pay is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I use it a lot but it’s
been available in the US for a while now. You can wrap up all your different
store cards on your phone and then just hold up your phone at the vendor and it
updates everything. Starbucks for example lets you track all your rewards plus
pay for your products all in the same app.

NFC also has other uses than payments. For example, I can touch the phone to
the front of these high end servers we use at work and it pulls down their
configuration and inventory information automatically over near field. It’s
not bad.

iCloud and music confusion

2015-08-18 Thread Jenine Stanley
Color me thoroughly confused about the Music app.

Here’s my dilemma. I have several files of exercise routines that I have placed
in the iCloud folder on my MBP. I just put them in the main part of the folder,
which could be part of the problem.

Now I’d like to access them through the Music app on my phone. Where are they?
Where do I move them so they are visible and playable on the phone?

Re: Mapping Keys for VMWare fusion6 and Windows XP

2015-08-18 Thread topdog2046
If you could at least tell me what key you have mapped to what? That'd
be helpful.
Like, insert is mapped to right-command, etc.
Right now, the insert function I have is right-command. But it doesn't
seem to serve as an actual Jaws key, and therefore, I can't do stuff
like insert H or insert F1.
And, shift plus F10 doesn't work whatsoever..
Of course, the other option is I plug in a PC keyboard for what I need
to do. Though where I'd find one, as I don't have one sitting around
anywhere, I don't know.

RE: iCloud and music confusion

2015-08-18 Thread george b
First copy the files from the iCloud folder
Now do a command shift h to go to your home window
Now in the table move to your user account and stop interacting
Find your music folder
Find iTunes
Find add to iTunes folder and drop them in there
Now exit all windows to the finder/desktop
Now start iTunes and they should be moved to the proper place in the tunes

Now they should be accessable

If that works then you can remove them from the iCloud folder

Sorry this is late, but I also had this problem with my MB Pro. Just take a Q
tip with the fuzzy stuff off and stick it in the hole for headphones. Not sure
how it does it but sometimes it will switch to digital input and will not
respond to a 3.5 jack. The Q tip will reset the jack back to default.

Hello,

I use dropbox in Windows. Today I tried to install it in the mac, but it seems
that I’m doing something wrong. I opened the dropbox page, typed name, email

never happened. I tried several times.
The computer said dim button.
Would anyone please explain what should I do? Thanks,

In my situation i really need a new phone.
I just repaired mine, they replaced the glass and display and now the sensor

Also the new battery was a joke.
It drains faster than the old one.

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
I wouldn’t bother at all with the 6 at this point.

First, the censor issue might be your case. Try removing the phone from your
case and seeing if it works. If not you know you have a hardware issue, if it
does then you can try a different case. I have had otter boxes cause all sorts
of proximity censor issues.
The replacement for the 6 will be out in a few weeks. I would
definitely hold if I were you as the price of the replacement for the 6 will be
the same as buying a 6 now so you won’t save any money.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Unless things have changed drastically over the last while, dragging items like

If it has changed, I'd be interested to hear experiences.

If you have the file open, you can also use the File menu in the program that

Technically, the attachment is already saved on your computer, but its location
is a hidden folder. When you save the document to a new location with any of

location.

Another option concerning saving attachments is to send them to Dropbox.
Dropbox
Send To is a great way to forward E-mail
messages with attachments to Dropbox, so they are in a “relatively” safe
location off of a computer. I do this for those attachments that are of
importance, then back them up to additional cloud services.

Hope this has been helpful

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
You can connect to LTE with the 5S this is correct however you don’t have the
expanded list of bands supported by the Goby radio chip from Qualcomm that’s in
the 6/ 6+ nor do you have the more advanced features like VOLTE. I believe the
chip in the iPhone 5S is a 15 series, the 6 / 6+ is a 25 and the next revision
according to leaked documents will be a 35 series chip with carrier
aggregation, 40 MHZ modulation and yet more bands on the same chip. The big
plus is that since the LTE configuration is unified around one set of chips now
instead of several depending on the carrier you use one phone can be used to
connect to all carriers instead of having an AT&T version, T-Mobile version and
so forth. Also means if you travel outside the country you’re more likely to
have support for your phone. The next iteration of the phone will support even
more bands like the newly activated 700 MHZ band 12 for T-Mobile. This is a
big deal because 700 MHZ signals penetrate buildings far better than the band 4
2.0 - 2.2 GHZ spectrum they use now. You’ll get carrier aggregation which will
allow a carrier to have you connect to two bands at once and bond the channels
for far faster throughput. The wider modulation allows you to have more
physical bandwidth per carrier meaning you can pack more data per carrier.
Starting with the 6 series (Goby 25 series qualcomm radio) you get
VOLTE support. As a side note I designed the routing infrastructure for the
Verizon Wireless VOLTE platform so this is the area I’m most familiar with.
VOLTE allows you to have a wide band call with very good quality. Also allows
you to use data and voice at the same time. You can also encode video on this
stream and have voice and video quality calls even to different networks unlike
say FaceTime or Skype which is carried on the best effort standard data channel.

That’s just the radio chip differences let alone the actually A series
processor differences, battery, improved motion coprocessor and so forth. So my
point stands you can hide your head in the sand if you wish and live in the
past definitely your call or you can buy a newer revision but to say that the
differences are imaginary or all a matter of perception is just poppycock. I
would contend that the responder is a hater and because they can’t have the
latest and greatest they justify it with nonsense like above.

Re: help with wordpress

2015-08-18 Thread 'onlineeagle' via MacVisionaries
Interesting thread. I've used Self hosted wordpress for a few years now, and
find it pretty accessible. I upe basic HTML code to do things like insert
headings, images, links and bullets into posts and pages. I'll give MarsEdit a
look, but why do people find it better than just using the Wordpress interface?

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Mary Otten
Scott,
I have a 5S, so yes, I do have LTE. I was not however aware that Verizon had
VOLTE in my area. I thought they did not. Actually, if T-Mobile has that new
band in this area, that would be another reason to upgrade this next fall. I
don't like Verizon. Sorry, Scott, if you work for them. I would love to change
to T-Mobile, but their coverage out here in Oregon has not been as good as
Verizon.

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
Hi Mary,
I actually worked for Juniper which was a vendor of routers and firewalls to
Verizon so it’s no skin off my back.:) I will say there are some very very
skilled and just good quality people though working for VZ in Branchburg New
Jersey so I feel pretty lucky to have been among them but I do understand where
you’re coming from.
As for VOLTE, we actually rolled out VOLTE across the entire VZW
network in one shot. It became available the day the iPhone 6 became available
which I believe was September 20ish of last year. I believe interoperability
with other carriers came a few months later. But you should have no problem
with VOLTE on VZ in Oregon.
T-Mobile has been hamstrung by spectrum issues. What eventually
happened is T-Mobile bought some of the lower 700 MHZ spectrum from VZ back mid
2014 or so. This space is hugely valuable because it will cover a wider area
and penetrate in to buildings much farther than the higher frequencies will so
especially in rural areas there will be a big difference. In fact, this 700
MHZ roll out has helped T-Mobile really start to put the squeeze on business
customers for VZ and AT&T because it removed a lot of the coverage issues
you’re mentioning and experiencing. If I were you I’d check with T-Mobile or
have a sited person help you look at their map and see if your geographic area
is covered and if so with the new band 12 spectrum. If so then I would go for
it. The 6+ does not support band 12 as the allocation was made after the 6 /
6+ was in production but it will definitely be included in the next release of
the phone so you may want to check that out next month. AT&T is also an
option, they are rolling out VOLTE as we speak as well as LTE advanced and they
may have better coverage. At this point I would check out all the carriers
with the exception of Sprint. Sprint isn’t long for this world and they are
giving away their network just to add customers and good luck trying to stay
connected on their network which is a shame because back in the 3G time period
they were pretty good.

Good luck

shortcut keys

2015-08-18 Thread jeff `greene
Hi, Just have a quick question. I upgraded my wife’s mac to yosemite and all of
a sudden in safari she can’t go back to the previous page. Both command+[ and
the back button in the toolbar don’t work. Command+[ works fine if VO is on. I
tried making some app shortcuts in system prefs using command+left-arrow but
they don’t seem to work either. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Jeff

I use dropbox in Windows. Today I tried to install it in the mac, but it seems
that I’m doing something wrong. I opened the dropbox page, typed name, email
and password, checked the agreement, and clicked on download, but the download
never happened. I tried several times.
The computer said dim button.

Would anyone please explain what should I do? Thanks,

Rena

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Mary Otten
OK, that explains why I thought we did not have VOLTE. I bought my 5S last
June, that is June a year ago. The six was not yet out, and we did not yet have
VOLTE according to the store. And of course, I did not know that it
subsequently became available. I will definitely look into T-Mobile. Would love
to dump Verizon, and I'm not interested in a TNT at all, as their coverage is
no better than Verizon, and their customer service is also like Verizon, and
that is not a good thing.

Re: iPhone 5s

2015-08-18 Thread Scott Granados
Mary, I had AT&T for a while and there service had improved. All the carriers
suck though let’s be real about it.:)

If you call Verizon to activate VOLTE you should ask for the advanced calling
1.0 features to be activated on your account. That’s the verizon wording for
the product. It’s a free add on to your service. If you have any problems let
me know and I’ll be glad to help if I can.

Thanks

I thought I did, but if not, I'll say it again. First for insert, I mapped it
to the right option key. Then for the applications key which is the same as
pressing shift+F10 I mapped it to the right command key. If this doesn't help,
maybe add me to Skype and I'll let you hear my configuration there.

In the VO Utility, in the Verbosity pane (cmd-2), under the Text tab, you can

If you call Verizon to activate VOLTE you should ask for the advanced calling
1.0 features to be activated on your account. That’s the verizon wording for
the product. It’s a free add on to your service. If you have any problems let
me know and I’ll be glad to help if I can.

Well surprisingly, someone asked me today if they could buy my Six plus as I
was not intending to sell it this year. But because I've been quoted a good
price, I'll be selling it now and getting the next one whatever it's called.
Sometimes, life does surprise you.

As for VOLTE, we actually rolled out VOLTE across the entire VZW
network in one shot. It became available the day the iPhone 6 became available
which I believe was September 20ish of last year. I believe interoperability
with other carriers came a few months later. But you should have no problem

Good luck

Re: ICloud drive

2015-08-18 Thread Alex Hall
Can you explain further? The iCloud Drive is really just a folder on your Mac,
so adding to it, moving things out of it, and opening things from it are all
the same as they would be on any other folder on your Mac. You can jump to it
with cmd-shift-i, but that's the only special thing about it I can think of.

Hello Anouk,

While it was still in beta, I really tried to work with Word, and although it
was technically accessible, it was horrible to work with.
Several people on this list had even worse experiences with it than I did.

Cheers,
