Theta Poker Pro and the problem of digits.

2014-09-09 Thread Gabriele Battaglia

Hi all.
Time ago I've received from this list a suggestion to play Theta Poker Pro,
for iOS. Lucky me! It's now one of my favourite game and its developer is a
kind person.

The only problem I can't fix is how VoiceOver pronouces the numbers higher
than 999.
To say, for example, 1025 chips, it says: one zero two five chips, and there
is no way to let it say correctly: one thousend, twentyfive chips.

I've tried to set my device on my own native language, which is italian and
also to change it in American english: but I got no results at all.
I've tried several voices, Daniel british english, Samantha US English... and
others but all of them speaks the number higher than 999 as digits and not as
full numbers.

Any suggestion to fix this annoying issue?

Thanks.

Gabriel.

Re: Marking emails as not Junk

2014-09-09 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Angus,

In the list of your messages, once you land on your friend's message with vo,
press vo+shift+m for contextual menu. Vo+down arrow to the option which says
"mark message" or something similar, or else once you have activated contextual
menu, start typing "mark" and you should land there immediately. Press
vo+spacebar and you will have a choice to mark the message as spam or not spam.

Also, make sure your friend's e-mail address is in your contacts.

GB: Hi Andrew.
I have the somme problem and your suggestion won't work.
Within mark message submenu, I have just two choices: mark as unread and mark
as spam.
That's good if the message is effectively a spam, but if it is not and you
want to unspam it, that's results not possible, to me.

Any help will be appreciated.

I've tried several voices, Daniel british english, Samantha US English...
and
others but all of them speaks the number higher than 999 as digits and not
as
full numbers.

Any suggestion to fix this annoying issue?

Thanks.

Gabriel.

In the list of your messages, once you land on your friend's message with

activated contextual menu, start typing "mark" and you should land there

I have the somme problem and your suggestion won't work.
Within mark message submenu, I have just two choices: mark as unread and
 mark as spam.
That's good if the message is effectively a spam, but if it is not and you
want to unspam it, that's results not possible, to me.

Yup, running an iPhone through a guitar amp is going to be odd sounding
with all the effects and such that usually get applied to the signal,
even though your amp does have a low gain input. Of course if you want
to find a bluetooth speaker that sounds as good as your nice amp, I
don't think you'll have much luck if your budget only allows for
something that costs a quarter of your amp. Maybe something like a block

I want it to sound like another banjo player is sitting next to me playing the
harmony part as I play the melody part.
I figured a bluetooth speaker with some oomph would do the trick for fewer

I also looked at portable battery powered pa systems. Samsung and behringer

Belkin for $23:

Do you know of, or have a recommendation for a blue-tooth speaker that can

setting up an Air Printer

2014-09-09 Thread Jenine Stanley
So I was looking at how to print things from my phone and discovered that I
have no printer set up for this activity. Here are some possibly stupid
questions about doing so.

1. Do I need a wireless printer for this task?
2. If I have a printer set up for my MBP, can it be enabled for use with the
iPhone?
3. If yes, how?

Thanks!

Re: VO pronunciation of long numbers?

2014-09-09 Thread Kevin Barry
If Alex is pronouncing 2014 as 2013 then you have a very serious
problem indeed.
My point is, Alex says the word "and" when pronouncing a four digit
string such as a year.

That is simply wrong and should not be.
And signifies a decimal point.
As in:
ttwenty dollars and fourteen cents.

At 11:18 AM 9/9/2014, you wrote:

Hi,

Alex pronounces years just fine for me. 2014 is pronounced as "two

DNS not functioning in Fusion

2014-09-09 Thread Todd W
Hi All,

Strage thing happening here. I have a Win 7 VM running in Fusion 5. I
don't use it all that often but it's worked fine in the past. Now when I'm
in Windows DNS isn't resolving names correctly. The Fusion network adapter
is set to share the Mac's address and from Windows I can ping other
machines by IP, both internal and external hosts. When I try and ping by
name it can't resolve the name. Fusion has supplied the correct settings
as I can verify them from DOS with ipconfig. The really strange thing is
that if I use nslookup to try and resolve a hostname it works, but
resolution from the command line still fails. Any ideas on what might be
happening?

Todd

Re: VO pronunciation of long numbers?

2014-09-09 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Your point is taken, and I apologize for messing up. No, I don't have a
serious problem with my Mac, just a serious problem with my brain. But, in any
case, the "and" is not present in the pronunciations of 4-digit years for my
Mac. The 4-digit numbers are either pronounced as pairs like nineteen
seventy-five or as the actual number as in two thousand fourteen. Not sure why
your installation is acting different.

I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
"This I call to mind,

his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."

Re: can't find apple sttreaming event for todays keynote

2014-09-09 Thread Kevin Barry

I find it, however, it drops out a lot and requires a restart.
This is on both my Mac and iPad.
Most irritating, I am getting what I believe is a live Chinese
translation at about the same volume of the English speaker.

I am in the U.S..
Not acceptable.

What a fiasco. They can't even keep up with the server load. The fiasco is not
necessarily apple, but the entire internet backbone which obsolescence is
getting more evident as more users do more stuff on it. The current protocols
are just not smart enough to handle all the traffic. And to be honest, I'm
really not impressed by the new phones or whatever tehc they hold. The one and
only feature I was really looking forward to is not there. The rest is
shenanigans for the marketing fools.

Re: setting up an Air Printer

2014-09-09 Thread Pamela Francis
Hello Janine,
I have a wireless printer set up on my home network.
Your printer has to be able to connect to your router. You will likely need
sighted assistance to enter your network password into your printer.
Depending on the brand of printer you choose, there is likely to be an app used
to activate it. TheHP printer I have uses HP ePrint from the App Store.
Once you get your printer set up, configured correctly to your network, your
iPhone should see it therefore allowing you to print from your iPhone, iPad, or
any other device you have running wirelessly. It's a relatively easy process.
If you have a cited friend who can help you, it would be a little more
streamlined. Hope this helps.

3. If yes, how?

Re: setting up an Air Printer

2014-09-09 Thread Pamela Francis
Your printer has to be air print capable before any app will find it. Check the
model number of your printer on the manufacturers website see if it is air
print capable. You should also be able to find the corresponding manufacturers
app for your printer to install to your device.

What is happening with the U2 album release; can't find it

2014-09-09 Thread Christine Grassman
U2 and Apple are releasing the band's latest album free on iTunes. I searched
for it, found it, and without even putting in my Apple ID, or clicking on it to
purchase, it says purchased dimmed. However, It is only giving me the option to
preview in the iTunes store, and the album is nowhere to be found in my library
or within the music app. I tried rebooting the phone and searching for it
again, and the same thing occurs. When I go into downloads, it says no active
downloads. When I look in Purchased, it is not listed. Can anyone help? (My
husband got it without a hitch on his iPHone.)

The Keynote

2014-09-09 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
Have any of you figured out how to listen to the whole Keynote of today? I
finally figured out that there was a whole bunch of pictures up there since
there was description. I got the part that talked about the album on iTunes,
which was was fine, but that was not the part I wanted to know about first. I
ended up, I think hearing the last part and not the first. Has anybody figured
this out, and I hope our sighted friends are not as confused as I am right now.
Last time I think the keynote was up there about this time afterward.

Re: What a disappointment.

2014-09-09 Thread Destene Noller
Right, and in fact, Apple didn't even stream their events until much more
recently. So maybe all of you whiners would be happier if the events weren't
streamed at all? Also back in Mr. Jobs' day, not nearly as many people would
have been trying to partake in the event. Since things apparently went so
badly, perhaps Apple will choose not to stream at all next time around!

Hi!
If you have recently added playlist showing on your Mac iTunes it shows up
in there as well! *smile* I found it there and selected all the tracks and
then using VO+shift+m the 1st option was to download and now its on my iMac!

Re: Apple - Live - September 2014 Special Event

2014-09-09 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
Well, I guess that will teach some of us in the world to be in a big hurry,
right!

I can see we are going to need a special podcast on the Apple Watch. Did you
guys notice, and I was cheering when I heard that Siri was in the Apple watch,
that Siri never said verbally what those movies were. My first thought was: oh
gee, I sure hope it has voiceOver in it like everything else so we can read
that movie list Siri came up with. I sure am sorry I wasn't there so I could
ask later if they could please turn on VoiceOver.

The other thing I liked was the Apple Pay because I am real tired of signing
either on these slippery screens or pieces of paper. I have a terrible
signature, and I hate doing it. Only thing is, I can't get an iPhone 6 for more
than a year because my 5 S is less than a year old. But then they said the
Apple Watch would work with the 5 and 5 S, and that Apple Pay would work on it.
I wonder if that means that you still have to have the 6 even if you get the
Apple Watch? With my luck, that would be true, and I will be signing on
slippery screens and hated pieces of paper for more than a year at least. Oh,
well, the bright side is that will give Apple time to expand it to more
businesses.

Regards,
Gigi

Re: Apple - Live - September 2014 Special Event

2014-09-09 Thread Barry Hadder
I personally don't believe that the Apple Watch is going to be that usable for
us at the moment, at least it doesn't appear to me to be so. I'm also not that
concerned about it at the moment.
I'm in total agreement with you regarding the credit card signatures, but
that's going to take a little time I'm thinking before Apple pay really takes
hold. Many things that were shown today are going to be in some sort of
experimental stage for quite some time. That's what makes these Apple events
different. Rather than show you current products, it's like they Travel into
the future, bring stuff back, and put it into everyone's hands. I guess I have
to say that Google is like that as well, but Apple and Google seem to have very
different philosophies.
This being the case, some of the things they do seem a little out of place at
first with present day but usually everybody comes around and embraces the new
things. So, many times when you use Apple stuff your using leading edge
technology that is a little ruff around the edges and many others aren't using.
This is why they will point at you and call you a fan boy :).

If you have a 5S, then I personally wouldn't worry at all about getting an
iPhone 6.

I can see we are going to need a special podcast on the Apple Watch. Did you

that Siri never said verbally what those movies were.

I wonder if that means that you still have to have the 6 even if you get the

slippery screens and hated pieces of paper for more than a year at least. Oh,

I wonder with the Apple Pay, if it will work with any visa or MasterCard, or
only if you bank with the small list of places they have? If I understand the
announcement today, it would work anywhere contactless cards do, so most of the
Google Wallet places. Supposedly there's many thousands of places capable of
accepting that, yet I heard it almost makes you perceived as a hacker to use
it. I think Apple agressively promoting it will make people aware at stores
that tapping the phone to pay isn't an attack.
