Re: Tips on Abbyy Fine Reader?
It's pretty straight forward, Alex. You'll get the hang of it in no time. The only one thing I'd say is that I've often got better results exporting to Word (.docx) format, rather than PDF, at least with more complex documents. FineReader does an amazing job of properly formatting footnotes and numbered paragraphs when exporting to Word, which is awesome as well. using optic book scanner with k1000 in a vm
Ok, thought I'd write this here in case it helps somebody else. First, put the driver installation file for the optic book 3600 onto a jump drive. Connect the jump drive to the vm. Make sure the scanner is turned on and connected to the vm, you should hear that usb connection noise. Go to your installation file on the jump drive and hit shift f10. Go down this menu until you hear troubleshoot compatibility mode Hit enter Check the box which says that the program worked in earlier version but doesn't run now hit next pick an earlier version of windows, we used vista hit next or run this program, can't remember which, but it'll be obvious The driver should install The only problem we're having now is that when we try and scan from within k1000, it scans continuously instead of only scanning a single page. hth, Caitlyn -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Nick is correct. Also, the help system for fine Reader is very good as these things go. too bad it doesn't export directly to Pages but the Word option works well. So what's the difference in the express and pro version of abbyy fine reader? I have the express and have not done much other than scan a page or two. What if I want o scan a book? is the pro version easier and what steps do I need to take to do that? I hear there are some additional keystrokes but haven't checked it out yet. Re: Tips on Abbyy Fine Reader?
The only oddity I have noticed using FR Pro is that, when I press the button to scan to whatever document format I choose, and the scanning dialog appears, my scanner (epson perfection V33) does a once-over of the document. That is, it immediately scans over the page and then stops. I then have to press the "scan" button, do my scanning either one or multi-page, and then press the finish button. At first I got a little confused by the initial once-over scan, thinking it was the scan, but in fact, its just an initial pass that sets up the scan I think. This is getting to be a ramble, but the point is, the first pass of the scanner doesn't actually scan, you have to then press the scan button to start the scan process. The two scan passes are different in their speed and sound as well, the once-over is fast, and the actual scan passes are a bit slower. Hope that didn't muddy the waters too much. FR Pro works great and this is just an oddity I noticed when I first used it. Re: Tips on Abbyy Fine Reader?
Hi. The differences is that the OCR engine has been updated, it is easier to scan and process multipage documents, the results are better quality, I have noticed that quoted text is handled better. You can also scan double page, and finereader will seperate the pages before doing OCR. There are more differences. I will recommend you to try it out. Best regards Annie. Re: A scanner for finereader pro on the mac.
Hi Alwine. Unfortunately you can not use the pearl scanner for anything else than open book. I will hope that there will be a camerascanner available in the future that works and that can work with finereader in some way. Unfortunately there are not many camera scanners that we can use. Let's hope something will happen in the future. Maybe it will be the IPhone in the future that can do the taking picture job. I have played a lot with it it is nearly good enough, but it is difficult to find a camera app that really works for us, and an app that will allow us to save the pictures to 1 folder, and when you can easily get them imported in finereader and finereader does a rather good job. But we are missing a little on the phone yet. Best regards Annie. Viewing Recognized Text in Fine Reader?
Hi all, I just scanned an envelope. Unsure how to simply view a window with text in it, I selected the Word file option. I'm now in a window with a bunch of formatting options, two empty scroll areas, and no recognized text anywhere. How do I simply see what is on the envelope I scanned? I don't usually need to save text, just scan it to see what it is. Is there a way to basically OCR a scan and view the results? Re: applescript
I learned by googling it. It is really simple, as close to a plain English programming language as I've ever seen... Tell application "Finder" to set the clipboard to the path of the selected file stuff like that. Basically, identify a task you want to do in Aplescript, then google that particular task. You'll learn as you go along. At least, that's what worked for me. On Apr 16, 2014, at 10:23 AM, Jim Gatteys wrote: > Hi all! > Are there good resources for learning AppleScript? Re: Good Prospects for Accessibility in Office for Mac
Hi. For me there would be good reasons to by office if it becomes accessible. As I experience it headings on different levels works better, I can not figure out this in pages. I have never ever got it to work quick and easy to make a document with table of content, and I really say quick and easy, I will not spend a lot of time on such a task. Now I have in fact found a way to do that, that is quick and easy, I think I will tell about it some day in the future, but pages were not helpfull for that task. Best regards Annie. Re: Good Prospects for Accessibility in Office for Mac
Well the biggest reason I would buy it in a heart beat is that all the formatting would be once again compatible with that of my co workers. Believe me, it never is from Pages and my co workers tell me that even the current Mac Office is not really compatible. So it'sin everyone's interest for this to work better including accessibility of course. Re: Good Prospects for Accessibility in Office for Mac
If your word processing needs don't extend to needing 100% Office compatibility, Pages is probably fine. If, however, you need to ensure that your .docx files retain all formatting, fonts, etc., you'd probably be more likely to have that in Office. Re: Viewing Recognized Text in Fine Reader?
Hi Alex, I'm not sure you can view text of a document you have just scanned in FineReader. The way I use this app is as follows: I either add new pages via the add new pages dialogue - there's a button there, or better still, I vo+shift+m on the name of the scanned file and choose open with FineReader. I guess I do this because I use Vuescan to scan my documents first and use FineReader for recognition only as my scanner is not compatible with FineReader. 2. After FineReader has recognised the document, in the toolbar I find the button export all pages. A dialogue appears which gives me a choice of the various file extensions I can choose from. Remember that the last extension used will already be highlighted. 3. If I want .rtf, for example, I vo + arrow keys to it, and then route my mouse cursor to vo and perform a click with vo+shift+spacebar to choose the extension. 4. I jump to the very right of the screen where you will find "next" button. This will now actually create a file for you which you will be able to read. Press this button 5. A dialogue will open up with untitled file and extension. Call it what you wish, and save it where you want. 6. After you press the save button, the file will open in the appropriate application for the file extension you have chosen. I don't know of any other way of reading what you have scanned, not in FineReader itself. Caution: if you want to scan another document without simply appending it to the one you've previously scanned, you need to choose a new task by pressing new task button in the toolbar - I think there's a shortcut key under "file' menu. Otherwise, your new scan will be attached to the end of the previous one. I've learnt by mistakes about this. I'm sure there's much more about FineReader that others know more about Hope somebody will comment if I'm wrong in what I've said. Best wishes Andrew . But I got some questions if I can ask: 1-I need to rename a folder, I hit the vo+sheft +m but can not find the rename. 2-If I have a folder with many songs, I need to select only some songs, how can I select some? I tried sheft space, ctl sheft space, but no luck. 3-I know that command accent can cycle between open windoiws, I have 2 open windows that I need to copy and past files from and to. Using command accent do nothing. Why? 4-When I’m in a menu, using the scape key didn’t close this menu. I must hit option scape, and I discovered this by chance. So what is the right issue. Re: Renaming and some other questions
To rename, press enter. To select, interact with your list of files and press vo-cmd-enter on each one to select it (note that you must press this twice on the first item you select). If you are not using Mavericks or above, use vo-cmd-space instead of vo-cmd-enter. Escape closes menus, and I've never heard of it not doing so. Are you possibly not focused where you think you are? As to windows, are you sure you opened multiple windows? you may have Finder set to not open folders in new windows, or you did not use cmd-n when you opened your second folder. can that translator work the other way? I would like to take plain text or text PDF files and convert them for reading on my Braille Sense U2. Re: Good Prospects for Accessibility in Office for Mac
There are many, many, reasons why you might want to put Windows on your Mac still, even if Office becomes fully accessible. If they do it right, Office could be best of all on Mac, but there are plenty of things you still can't do, and might want to. Teamtalk is easier in Windows, many games don't work on Mac, etc, etc. Office being accessible would remove one of the most oft given reasons for not switching though. Two, I am unable to type in the incoming server information. I did enter the email address and selected IMAP. What is stopping me? Thanks. Quote of the nanosecond . . . Re: Topic: reading brf files on the mac
Yes, it can. Louis can also be used to do this. NFBTrans is a command-line application. This build has to be compiled and installed, and I still have to learn to do this. There are instructions in the readMe file, but they assume some knowledge of command-line. So as for my own situation, I'll probably stick with Louis, as this build of NFBTrans has DOS and unix files all mixed together and needs more tweaking than I know how to do. Facebook is getting on my nerves.
Hi guys. I know this topic comes up often, but I am so frustrated that I can't help it but post here. The regular Facebook site looses focus all the time and sends my browser to random places such as the beginning of the Facebook page or other unrelated post. So, I would like to use the mobile site. Despite the fact that the headings are not correctly set there, I have a more serious problem. The "share" button does not appear on many posts on my feed. I know that the function for the specific posts is available on the regular site. Any help or other tips is very much appreciated. Re: Facebook is getting on my nerves.
I've often run into this problem as well. Sometimes, if you click "more options" then move to the bottom of the page, the share button is there for the post for which you clicked more options. But sometimes it isn't. Good luck. If you have an iPhone, the Facebook app is generally a better bet for most things. Re: Viewing Recognized Text in Fine Reader?
A few additions: You can VO-Space on the format types when exporting; Once you've selected a format, you can simply hit return to trigger the next default button; DocuScan Plus will allow you to view recognised text without needing to save and is great for that purpose, but I don't think FineReader does this. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Facebook is getting on my nerves.
You could try MenuTab, but basically, it just displays either the mobile site or the desktop site as they are. It's a little faster to get started, i.e. you don't have to open Safari, but this is the only real advantage I notice. Teresa "Everything is interesting if you go into it deeply enough."--Richard P. It depends on the view you are using. Using command accent do nothing. Why? 4-When I'm in a menu, using the scape key didn't close this menu. I must hit option scape, and I discovered this by chance. So what is the right issue.
