Re: Questions About Using The Braille Edge With Files Produced On The Mac
You can just select files by pressing space on them. Then d chord will delete all selected files. I too have tried deleting that top folder to my cost. you just have to ignore the ghost files and that funny folder. It’s something the Mac puts there for its own reasons I don’t understand. Can’t help you with the pairing issue as I’ve had no trouble pairing my Braille Edge with my iPhone. Re: VoiceOver and Numbers: Negative Numbers
HI, Thanks for your help. I'll try switching punctuation to most. I probably have mine set to the default, which I believe is some. It's odd though as VoiceOver reads negative numbers fine for me if the cell isn't formatted as currency. It's also a little poor that VoiceOver doesn't recognise a hyphen before a number as a minus sign. Thanks again for your help. Re: Mail Filters
This is correct! If memory serves me well, it is the "to" field you need to enter the email address. Shown in the guide. For testing purpuse, use only the "to" field(the email address of the sender). Like what a smart woman said, it is not always the email address is shown in the from field, but the senders email address is always shown in the "to" field. This is always true with email lists, it seems. That is why it works to enter the senders email adress in the "to" field and that is why i wrote it in the guide, but i did not remember why, It was some testing before i got it right. Re: broadcasting on the mac
Hi, Some use Nicecast for this, but i personally never got the hang of that software, it looked far too complicated for me. There’s another application that looks promising called RadioLogik but unfortunately it’s not so accessible that we can use it with great effectivity. Me if i ever get my broadcasting project off the ground i’ll be using Station Playlist Studio from a virtual machine. It’s by far the easiest to use. /Krister 14 dec 2013 kl. 07:35 skrev May and Noah : > Hey everyone. > > Curious. Re: Questions About Using The Braille Edge With Files Produced On The Mac
Hi there again I didn't using the spacebar to select files and deleting them all at once. You learn something new everyday, never mind I've had this display for over a year now. I guess that means you can delete those ghost files. I do have some information, however, about pairing problems with the Braille Edge 40. This happened to me, and I have no idea why. I went to the office HIMS office and worked on this with Mike. I guess we spent about two hours on this, and then we ended up calling that wonderful 877 number. My Braille Edgge 40 liked every device, except my 5 s iPhone, so there is probably not something wrong with your Braille Edge, at least mine didn't end up needing repair for the same problem you are having. You won't like to hear this, but I had to erase all my settings on the iPhone. I'm talking about restoring it, so don't do that unless you find you have to. You might go into settings and write down all the ones you can find that you changed from the defaults. Oh, yes, make sure you have written somewhere your Internet passwords. Then set your settings back to factory. You don't have to erase all your data on your iPhone, just your settings. If you're concerned about doing that and losing all your stuff, you might want to call Apple Accessibility at 877-204-3930. If your equipment is too old, like you've had your iPhone for too long, for instance, and Apple charges you the $20, it will be worth it. It costed me a lot more than that to find out what was wrong with my Braille Edge. I made a trip to Austin. I did visit a friend, but I had to pay cab fare etc. to go to the HIMS office. Turning off Conversations in Mavericks Mail
Dear List conversation view in mavericks mail is driving me insane. I changed to classic layout in preferences and turned off show related messages but now I can't access the messages at all it just says conversation blank disclosure triangle or something to that effect. I thought classic layout turned off conversations!!! Is it possible to just have a list of messages with most recent at the top? If it isn't this is a dealbreaker. There is nothing else obvious in preferences. Now I understand why hijacking threads is a problem I thought that if I replied to a message but changed the subject there was no difference than sending a new message except for the original message bit underneath. Moving through recent messages from another list I suddenly got a message from early 2012from the same list which it presumably thought was in the conversation. I thought it was a bug. I will stop hijacking threads, but I need to turn off these infernal conversations. Under the view menu there is a "organize by conversation" option that you can check or uncheck. I've found the classic view to be problematic lately so have switched back but have mine unchecked by conversation. great news regarding the Nest thermostat
Hello all, First, please excuse the cross-posting, but I thought this would be of interest to people on both lists. I just wanted to let people know that the recent update to the Nest app for iPhone has become *much more accessible. Though the button labeling is a bit unintuitive, Voiceover now reads the labels. I can reliably raise and lower the temperature, and switch from cool to heat to off. It also looks like it's now possible to set your schedule, though I haven't figured out how yet. But you can see each day, in two hour increments. With this latest update, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. emogees break Voiceover
Hey guys: Every time I come across an emogee item, unless it's at the end of a message/tweet etc, voiceover seems to just pass right over the item in question. By item in question, I mean the entire message/tweet etc. Is there a way to fix this issue? I'm running Mavericks on a brand new 13 inch MacBook Air. Hi Lisette, Thanks so much for your help! I should have remembered that command because it’s just like on the Braille Sense Plus I used to have. Hi Gigi, That sounds like a nightmare for sure! I think I’ll wait awhile to do a reset of my phone! Hi Teresa, If you are using Mavericks, you will need to download the new install package from the macports sight. You probably need to update XCode as well if you don’t have 5 installed. Re: Command Line: How to Upgrade Macports?
Okay, here are the latest instructions I can find. But it's kind of a nightmare in my opinion; you are supposed to uninstall and reinstall all your ports all over again in the process! I haven't yet done this though I may decide I have to at some point. What I've done so far is this: The first problem was that Mavericks is missing /usr/bin/gnutar. If you don't still have a Mountain Lion install with that file you will indeed have to apparently reinstall macports. I just copied my file from my Mountain Lion installation to Mavericks. The second thing is to make sure that xcode is installed. Even if it is installed, you will want to run xcode-select --install or you will get a missing tcl error when you try to selfupdate. Now I did these things and then ran the selfupdate and upgrade outdated commands and it appears to work. But it is possible there are broken ports I don't know about so I may eventually follow the official instructions some day when I am feeling really ready to cope! I don't mind so much getting a list of my ports and uninstalling them but reinstalling them is what I hate! There's a script but if the script fails you have to reinstall manually and you can't just alphabetically go through the list; you are supposed to install the ones you really want (if you can figure out which ones those are!) and not the ones that are just dependencies as those will install when you do the needed ports. I've done this before at other OS changes and didn't enjoy it! I could probably send you the gnutar file if you want but again, I can't absolutely guarantee that this doesn't leave you with broken ports though I am not getting errors when running upgrades. So here are the standard instructions; you will have to follow the links to each of the indicated steps. I realize this has an October 5th date but I think it has been updated as things changed. At any rates, the links you are taken to are the official Macports ones. http://www.ghostwheel.com/merlin/Personal/notes/2013/10/05/macports-on-mavericks -- Cheryl Go beyond the Christmas story this year; meet Immanuel (God with us), Jesus, the crucified Savior, Christ, the risen Lord. Just to avoid confusion: the word sender is the person who’s sending the email. So what goes in the “to” field is not the sender’s address, technically. Re: skype on the mac
Hello everyone, I have not noticed any issues when launching or using Skype. I am also using Mavericks, and from both the general OS update, and from the fresh install viewpoint, everything is Working smoothly. In fact, I would strongly recommend performing a fresh install of Mavericks because prior to this, my computer was sluggish and I was experiencing fusion memory problems, which have resolved themselves now. After my fresh install, things are Working as expected. Hope this has been helpful. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Command Line: How to Upgrade Macports?
Oh well, then, if you didn't reinstall all your ports, there's probably no need to run the new installer either as long as you can find that gnutar file somewhere and put it on your system. As for xcode, I already had that installed but I had to check for updates and make sure command-line tools were up-to-date. ATechnically they say you are supposed to reinstall all your ports but I always try avoiding that if I can. -- Cheryl Go beyond the Christmas story this year; meet Immanuel (God with us), Jesus, the crucified Savior, Christ, the risen Lord. Terminal: VO and Alpine Mail?
hi, all, I was playing with alpine in terminal last night. VO doesn’t seem to track things very well, especially in the configuration file. Has anyone found a way to use VO with Lynx, Mutt, Alpine, etc.? Or is there a screen-reader that’s available through Macports? It's better if you have a braille display and then use brltty in terminal. But do make sure you have cursor tracking on in Alpine's configuration. Even using vo that may help some. Re: Terminal: VO and Alpine Mail?
Hi, Cheryl, Yes, I love brltty. I’ve tried to install it in the past, but I can’t seem to get the right syntax. Is it in Macports? Do I do this?: sudo port install brltty or do I have to build it from source. Re: Mail Filters
Hi It should work to go to gmail.com log in and make sure you have html version. When you are at the top, press vo - cmd + h, vo - cmd + h one more time, vo - cmd + l, vo - cmd + l one more time, when on the link "make a filter" press enter, when on the top in the next window press vo - cmd + t, vo - cmd + t one more time, from now on you only have to press vo + right arrow until you hear a knob called delete, that said, be sure to use the delete knob after the filter you want to delete, press enter and hopeffully this works. Off course, you can use any vo commands you like to get to the link "make a new filter" and the delete button. For example vo + i and type !make a" and arrow down to "make a new filter" , hit enter, hit enter one more time, and vo + i in the next window and type "delete" and hit enter and enter one more time. Just in case, if other people also need information about gmail filter is the topic pretty well covered here: copyied from other discussions etc. below: Email filter If you want to filter an email list the senders email address is the email list address like macvisionaries@googlegroups.com The actual email list email address. Not Yoey, Anna or Smith`s email address. You may have to make a label first. Be sure to type in the correct email adress when making a filter. Try with only the senders email address first in the "to" field and nothing else in topic, message text field etc. Only the senders email adress in the "to" field. Then, you are minimizing the potential errors because you have only enterd the email adress, there must be wrong email address. Of course, the label name and skip inbox must be chosen. Take a look at step 15. below. If you have many messages below in that step, you are doing right, if not, there must be a miss spelled email address. Though i am a little bit confused about this guides step 4. although i write it. Long time since i filterd anything to a label. The reason you have to enter senders email adress in the "to" field is: Email list`s don`t always show their email address in the "from" field, but shows their email address in the "to" field. The Gmail filter have to see the correct address. If there is an incorrect address in the "from" field the Gmail filter reads wrong address. So you have to tell the filter to read from the "to" field where the email list`s have their correct address. Copyic from another message: Hi Use your mac. You need to change gmail on web from standard view to basic html view. Here is a link to a how to do that http://webapps.stackexchange.com/questions/24763/how-can-i-convert-gmail-from-standard-view-to-basic-html-view Other may fill in and add details or correct. No problem. You may place a check mark in step 15. it will filter the most of your emails already stored, but it may take several days to filter. That scared me first time from check mark this because it looked scarying wtih so many emails falling down from the net like an never ending river. In my opinion a filter option is a great tool to keep order in our inbox. Noticed that some have 3000 - 4000 emails after 3 days without checking the email. I like many others are using gmail. A very good email client. Accesible. Filtering using Label and filter. You can use the Mail account built in IOS with gmail inside Mail IOS. If you make a new Label or a Map(this is the same i.e..Label is an map in your mailbox list under inbox, sent, deleted etc). If you don't have an gmail account you ca register one first on google.com Don't remember exactly how, but it is pretty straight forward and not dangerous. Chose IMAP if it is an option between IMAP or POP. IMAP synchronize email between iPhone, iPod, Mac and iPad. If you want to use the built in Mail program in IOS you register first on google.com then go to Settings > Mail > add Account. Find gmail in the list.. If memory serves, you only have to set username and password inside the built in IOS MAIL IF you already have signed an account on google.com Making a Label or Map. 1. Log in to gmail. 2. Go to Settings > Label. Settings are in the upper right corner. A window pops up and you find the Label knob.Above the inbox there are also an link called make a filter and after above the inbox. Opening this, the same window opens. 3. Find the text box. Type the name viphone for the Label or Map(it is the same). Hit setup knob. Now you have a Label or Map in your list under Mailbox i.e. inbox, sent, all e-post etc. Make a filter rule. It is easy. Gmail is accessible and straight forward in this case at least. 1. Find the knob Filter in the same window above the table in a list above the table. Hit filter. Now we want to filter viph...@googlegroups.com to go into the Label or Map you made. 2. Find the knob "make a new filter". A new window with a table opens. Set a filter. Make search criteria. 3. Find the text field "from". Do not type anything here - leav

Re: activating items in safari history
OK. It depends on how you access the history. If you arrow down thru the history menu, it works great. If you enter on the “show history “ menu item, you are presented with a table which is more difficult to work with. Chris On Dec 13, 2013, at 10:25 PM, Ray Foret Jr wrote: > Easy. Re: activating items in safari history
You might want to use the history menu in Safari and activate links with the return key from there. the table is more for editing purposes. In the table, you can use command-down-arrow to open a site when your focused on the title. This is a standard Mac OS keyboard shortcut for opening items. If you’re on an expandable item, such as a day of the week, can use VO-backslash key to open it. Dragging and dropping a Mailbox to Favorites yet again
Hey all, Ugh I had to delete all my email accounts in gmail and reinstall them and lost all of my favorites. I went back to our old notes on dragging and dropping a mailbox in to favorites in Mountain Lion as I am still running Mountain Lion, and of course again I can't get the mailbox to drop in to favorites. I wanted to see if anyone has had any recent success with this and figured out a work around. Here's the method I have been using. In classic mail mode, the preview pane is closed. I click VO comma to drag a mailbox. This automatically kicks me out of my mailbox table I am in and I VO left over to the favorites, I go to drop the mailbox with VO period, have tried this on top of the Favorties bar and while interacting in the favorites group, and I can hear the mailbox being dragged and VO tells me it is being dragged, but then I get an unable to drop mailbox message. Ugh this is so frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. The only way i’ve been able to access the settings is to set the mouse pointer to move VO in VO utility. Then go to the extras menu and make sure the mouse pointer is on dropbox. Then, using mouse keys or the trackpad or actual mouse, I click on it and I get the links to the dropbox folder and application settings. Re: Latest Twitter for latest iOS
The official Twitter app seems to not be showing me any tweets. I've never used it though, preferring TweetList and Twitterrific, both of which are extremely VoiceOver friendly. There was a thread a few weeks back discussing their relative advantages. TweetList is great if you like using Twitter lists as it can create and manage such lists, while Twitterrific is a little more streamlined. HI Bryan, I quite frequently use this and have always had success. Instead of using VO-Period to drop, however, try using VO-shift-period or VO-shift-comma while interacting with the Favourites Bar and while VO is focussed on one of your other favourites. These commands of course should drop the mailbox after or before one of your existing favourites respectively. Re: accessing drop box settings
I navigate to the Dropbox menu in the menu extras, bring the mouse pointer with VO-command-F5, simulate a mouse click with VO-shift-space. This opens up some weird Dropbox dialog box which has the list of recently changed files, among other things. Down the bottom of this dialog thing is some clickable text called Settings. I believe clicking this Settings clickable item should bring up your Dropbox settings, but I've tried every way I know to click or activate it but nothing I have tried has worked. Does anyone know how to open these settings? Nic -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Hey Nick, Wow, not sure what worked, but got both the mailboxes there after trying several several different combinations, including toggling cursor tacking on and off, trying to move the VO focus got several error messages about not being able to move VO focus and mailbox is not draggable but just kept at it with different combinations and eventually one of them worked. Hi, I've now found that vo-shift-space brings up a few items and now, in Mavericks, vo-space on the preferences brings up a menu with lots of info and you can get into preferences from there. Re: locating edit boxes on web pages
Hi, Don, You can turn quicknav on by pressing both left and right-arrow keys, then navigate to form fields by pressing up-arrrow and one of the side arrows till you get there. At this point, you can use the up and down arrow keys to find form fields. The other thing you can do is press command-VO-J to move between form fields. Command-VO-shift-J works to go backward. As far as I know, there's no command for moving between text boxes. Re: Bluetooth Speakers Question
Hi, With a little practice, and memorization, you can fix this with out restarting your Mac. First, you can open the sounds preferences by pressing FN option F11 or F12. Note: FN depends on how you have function keys set up in your keyboard preferences. You might have to only press Option plus F11 or F12. So, if output was the last tab you were in in sound preferences, this is remembered. If you want to make extra sure your in the output tab, as soon as you open sound preferences press VO right arrow twice, and VO space once to select the output tab. So now all you need do is press VO command T to jump to the output table. Press the up arrow a few times, (with quick nav off) and you should get sound back through your built in output. hth Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On Dec 13, 2013, at 8:00 PM, Brian Fischler wrote: > Hey Nick, > > We must think alike as as soon as I got the bluetooth speakers I went to > keyboard to commander to see if I could set a toggle for my speaker output > but couldn't find one. Re: locating edit boxes on web pages
Hi, Just to add to this, if you decide to turn quick nav on, there is no need to use the web rotor. At this point, you can just use 1 letter navigation like on Windows screen readers. The letter F takes you to the next text field, L, next link, B, next button, C, next checkbox, etc. hth Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On Dec 14, 2013, at 10:05 PM, Teresa Cochran wrote: > Hi, Don, > > You can turn quicknav on by pressing both left and right-arrow keys, then > navigate to form fields by pressing up-arrrow and one of the side arrows till > you get there. Re: accessing drop box settings
Hi, In Mavericks, using the latest version of Dropbox, I do not need to option click to bring up preferences. If I go to the dropbox in the status bar, then press VO shift space to perform a mouse click I’m put in a system dialog . Press VO left arrow once to settings and press VO space on it to open the drop down menu. Arrow down to preferences and your good to go.
