Re: has anyone been able to return audible books successfully with voice over?

I'm not sure about this particular issue as I've never tried returning audible
books, but for some links on the new audible site I've noticed that VO-SPACE
doesn't work, but just hitting space bar works. Hopefully that might help.

Re: Battery Life on IOS 7

2013-09-26 Thread Nicholas Parsons
My battery usage varies depending on what activities I do with the phone. GPS
and heavy internet use over 3G is a major battery drain. I was once getting
turn by turn directions in the car while streaming my iTunes Match music over
3G. I drained my spare battery pack and drained the iPHone's battery down to
about 20% in only a few hours, which meant we had to ditch the directions for
the rest of the trip and the way home. :) If I'm connected to wifi, however, I
seem to get a day or so from one charge. That is, the battery isn't fully dead
when I go to bed and charge it up again. If I'm off wifi for the day but don't
do anything crazy (like heavy use of GPS or 3G) my battery will probably die in
the evening once I'm home again, but before going to bed.
I haven't noticed any differences since upgrading to iOS 7.

I'd also recommend Googling MacWorld and TidBits articles on making gmail work

Gmail IMAP works differently to regular IMAP, and so takes some tweaking to
work properly with Apple Mail. I'd love to help you but there are so many
variables it's a bit hard to check them all via email.

Yes, I completely lost VoiceOver for a while. Funnily enough, it happened just
as I went to demonstrate Twitter with VoiceOver for a friend who is thinking of
buying an iPHone for the first time and wanted to know how accessible it was.
Wasn't a great demonstration. :)
Triple Click Home wasn't working for me and it just seemed completely silent. I
think I may have eventually got it to work again with Siri, but I can't

Re: Chapters in audio books in iOS 7

2013-09-26 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi Nik,
thanks for your reply. In iOS 6 there was this button but it has changed in iOS
7. It's still there but the function is different now. If I press on it all the
audio files apear the audiobook contains but not the chapters of a book. In iOS
6 the chapters apeared after pressing this button.
Could you please try this button out and see if it's the same for you? Can you
see just the audio files of this particular book or can you see the chapters?
An audio book from the iTunes Store for example comes in one file but contains
several chapters. After pressing Tracklist I just can see the name of this
single audio file but not a list of chapters.
Thanks and all the best

pages question

2013-09-26 Thread Cait and Maggie
Hi,
I am wondering how to go about getting pages back on my mac.

When I first got my mac, I also purchased an I work cd from apple. My mac came
with pages already installed. We also put pages on Mark's mac, which was
allowed.

somewhere along the way of upgrading OS's, pages isn't on my mac anymore. I
can't find the original CD, either.

I copied the i work folder from Mark's applications folder and pasted it on
mine. I got the message that I needed to be running the latest version, but
there was no button to update, etc, just that error message.

there is no record of my purchasing I work in the mac app store, of course.

Will I have to buy each element of I work again just to get the latest versions?

thanks,
Cait

Re: IOS 7: bug in contact manager

2013-09-26 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Massimo Vettoretti,

I tried it all out and some I can confirm. I'll comment sequentially.

1. I did not know you could use the rotor to select a field on a contact card
that you want to edit. I tried it this way: I open contacts, open a random
card, hit edit, and then I turn the rotor. No contact specific information is
in the rotor. Is there supposed to be any contact related stuff in the rotor
that you know of, once you are editing a card? I can no longer try it out on
IOS 6, because I only have one IOS device and I'm on 7 now.
Also, I did try to edit a name and a family name, both with no luck. That
surprised me. But what happens here, is that even when having the rotor on
characters, it is impossible to move the text entry cursor across a family name
or first name field, character by character. Flicking up or down with the rotor
set to characters, just bonks at me. In IOS 6, it used to move the cursor one
character at a time with each flick. That no longer happens, making it
impossible to edit a contact's first or family name.

2. Regarding the cursor to start and cursor to end issue: it only says cursor
to start of edit field, but as I said above, there is no way to move the
cursor, so I cannot check at all whether or not the text cursor is at the start
or at the end of the field. But that it's now broken, that is a fact.

3. On a contact card that did not have an address yet, while flicking across
the card from top to bottom, I did indeed find an address field that was blank.
This is what one would expect. I double tapped the address field, and bang, I
was thrown out of the contacts app, back to my home screen. If that is what you
meant when you said the phone app crashed, then yes, it happens here as well.
Only difference on my side is, that I was editing my contact card off of the
contacts list inside the contacts app, and I was not doing it using the
contacts tab inside the phone app.

Did you report the issues to Apple accessibility yet?

Best,
Paul.

Re: ITunes and sequencial track number tagging

2013-09-26 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi,

What I use is fusion, and a little windows utility called mp3tag. It allows you
to select a bunch of tracks, who's filenames have been nicely numbered. It
looks at each file in turn, numbering it in sequence. Of course, your filename
numbering must be correct, in order for mp3tag to match your track numbers
accordingly. But that is very effective. You select your files, and then you
tab across the mp3tag windows dialog, filling in general information that you
want applied to each track. For example, you can fill in the artist and album
name from within the mp3tag program window, and apply that to all selected
files. You then select renumber as a second operation, and mp3tag fills in the
track number field inside each mp3 file's meta data.
If you then import those mp3 files into itunes, your metadata, i.e. the mp3
tags, will be just fine, so that itunes knows how to handle each mp3 file and
move it into your itunes library.

Hth,
Paul.

mac numbers and basic operations

2013-09-26 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi all,

If I would buy numbers, does any of you know if basic operations are possible
in it with voiceover? I know that numbers does have accessibility issues,
therefore I'm asking.

What I want is create a spreadsheet with a few columns, each column having a
text header, and then being able to sum up each column vertically, and also sum
up the column sums horizontally. In other words: each column contains numbers
that need to be added up. Is that doable with voiceover, creating a formula at
the bottom of a column? And secondly, if you have those results, they will show
up from left to right. In a column called total, on the right, I'd like to add
up all column sums to a toal, using a formula in numbers. This is very basic
stuff. Can VoiceOver handle numbers thus far?

Paul.

Some Canadians can now get access to Bookshare

Hi all,

Excuse the cross-post, but I thought there might be folks on both lists who
would be interested.

In Top Tech Tidbits this morning, there was an item that mentioned that some
Canadians can now get access to Bookshare. I know no more about it than what
you see below, but post in the event that it is helpful.

8) Some Canadians can now get free memberships to Bookshare through the CNIB:

for example, I've got an album consisting of 63 tracks (I'm not kidding).
Now, instead of having to go in to the info for each track individually
and do track number 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 ETC all the way to 63, is there a
way of making ITunes assign track numbers through the entire album? I
know I can select all the tracks in an album and write info for multiple
items: however, how do I deal with numbering each track? Do I write it
like this 1: 63 and specify in the track count that there are 63 tracks in
the album? I really do not want to sit up all blessed night doing each

Re: mac numbers and basic operations

2013-09-26 Thread Eugenia Firth
I will say, however, that I am waiting to see how numbers behaves when we have
Mavericks. I've been told, and admittedly this was by a sided guy, that numbers
will run under Mavericks. If you're not in a big hurry, you can wait for
Mavericks and some of us like myself, will let you know how it works out with
numbers under Mavericks. The only problem I have with numbers is with very
large files, and I just have to take a little more time. I am hoping this will
be better under Mavericks, and will see. Hi there
The simple answer to your question is yes. I use numbers all the time for what
you were talking about. It is true that Numbers for the Internet that is being
done for Mavericks was not accessible with voiceover, the last time I tried it.

Hi Matt,

Super Duper is easy to use.
You run the program, set up your source and destination drives using pop-ups.
You can choose whether to do a "smart" backup wihch bcks up only newer files.
It's set it and forget it and use it.

more calculator problems

2013-09-26 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all
A while back I emailed the list with calculator questions. I thought I'd sorted
everything out, until today. I have to calculate milages, and all I have are
the start and end numbers, so I have to subtract. Each number is six digits, so
I was copying and pasting them into the calculator. That worked the first time,
but then the odd things began. I could type numbers, but both paste and clear
were dimmed. Closing and re-opening the program only helped for a minute, then
the problems started up again. Does anyone know what might be going on? Thanks.

This happens quite a lot to me. According to Ricardo Walker, who first told me

bring VO back up and talking. I use that command keystroke combo all the time

Re: Battery Life on IOS 7

2013-09-26 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

My iPhone was fully charged yesterday morning:

• down to 73% this morning.
• Background updating is On.
• a number of Apps including Weather, Messages and Safari are running in the
background according to the App Switcher.
• iCloud Syncing is On.
• Mail notifications is on Manual.
• Calendar runs always and notifications are on.
• FaceBook notifications are On.
• Reduced Motion is On.
• WiFi and LTE/3G services are On.

Regular use yesterday included a number of calls including a 25 minute call
from my son. All calls are within a building with 8 inch think cinder block
walls, often multiple walls for the signal to make its way through. Lots of
Text messages, Calendar checks, check on tweets in Twitter, checked news in the
CBC News app a few times and probably some things I can't recall.

So, by no means super heavy duty use, lots of background things going on, and
battery life is quite normal in my opinion. As I mentioned before, I'm not
sure why others are having issues, nor am I disputing that you're having these
problems, I'm just not convinced that these problems are due to a bug in the
iOS. I've read lots of suggestions in this thread that may help including
letting your battery totally drain then charging it up fully to reset any
confusions with battery level, or possibly a weak battery issue, or specific
app or background app problem. We all use our iPhones for such varied tasks
that its difficult to pin-point an exact, "fix-all" for everyone.

Have a good one.

Re: IOS 7: bug in contact manager

2013-09-26 Thread Paul Hunt
Hello everyone. I tested this on my IPhone 4s. I cannot edit the first or
last name but can edit the other fields. If I type into the first or last
name field, characters are appended to the end of the field so Apple intends
for this field to be editable. I reported this issue to the Apple
Accessibility team. The representative confirmed that there is no way to
edit contacts while using Voice Over. First, he told me how to submit
product feedback. Then he told me that he would check with the Engineering
team to see if there is a work around. I followed these steps to submit this
feedback and I would encourage everyone on the list to submit feedback as
well.

1. I went to the Apple Product Feedback
  page.

2. Since I have an IPhone 4s, I accessed the IPhone link.

3. I wrote my comments.

4. I submitted the feedback.

When submitting your feedback please specify that you are using IOS 7. I
know that some of you on this list have been testing IOS 7. Did any of you
catch this issue while testing and if so, did you report it. I want to be
sure that apple responds to these issues during Beta testing. Please, if any
of you elect to beta test IOS in the future, contacts should be one of the
first things you check since it's of interest to everyone. Finally, if any
of you were successful getting your feedback heard and responded to during
BETA, tell us exactly how you did it so that we can help in the future.

Thanks so much.

Paul

The vibration feature is new in their most recent update. I'll have to try it
again; I never got good results in the past, so let's see how it works now. Are
you using this on a 5S? If so, your better results may be due to the camera's

Hello Gigi. I have never been good at scanning anything with my IPhone. I've
tried everything and haven't had any success. I guess I don't have the
scanning gift. The only app I've been able to use successfully is the
Looktel Money reader.
I'll try Prismo with IOS 7 and see what happens. I'm glad it works for you.

Hello Paul,

You probably need something to help you keep the iPhone flat and steady. Have
you thought of using either a StandScan Pro or a ScanBox? Both devices provide
ideal lighting and positioning for getting a good clear picture. Both devices
are considerably cheaper than a cheap flatbed scanner.

Cheers,

Anne

No, I still have a 4 s. Notice I said still have. I am planning to get a 5 s
with as much memory as possible as soon as I get around to it.

Like you, I had poor results until I discovered that when it vibrated in my
hand I needed to tell it again to scan the page. It didn't work on all my
pages, and I put that down to the kind of stuff I got in the mail, since it
read the check and the letter well enough for me to know what was in it. When I
get the 5 S, then maybe it will do better. That's one of the reasons I want to
get a 5 s.

Well, the translater wouldn't be at issue. That was a function of bex, not the
computer. So, presumably that still works.

The issue would be embossing because you would need support for serial
embossers in the emulator. I'm just trying to imagine connecting up an
embosser in such a way that the emulator could see it and failing.

Hi there
Actually, since I don't have an embosser, what occurred to me is whether one
could select all the text once translation had gotten done and put the braille
text into a brf file by using TextEdit. I don't know if it would work or not,
but the thought did occur to me. It's probably too much trouble anyway since
BEX used to write those files without carriage returns until you put them in.
so you would probably have to do a lot of formatting by hand even if you got it
to work.

Gigi

GPS and heavy internet use over 3G is a major battery drain. I was once
getting turn by turn directions in the car while streaming my iTunes Match
music over 3G. I drained my spare battery pack and drained the iPHone's
battery down to about 20% in only a few hours, which meant we had to ditch
the directions for the rest of the trip and the way home. :) If I'm
connected to wifi, however, I seem to get a day or so from one charge.
That is, the battery isn't fully dead when I go to bed and charge it up
again. If I'm off wifi for the day but don't do anything crazy (like heavy
use of GPS or 3G) my battery will probably die in the evening once I'm
home again, but before going to bed.
I haven't noticed any differences since upgrading to iOS 7.

Re: Audiobooks

2013-09-26 Thread Danny Noonan
You don't sync audible books from computer to iOS. You download to the phone
seperetly

In the audible app make sure clowd is selected and then go to settings. Tap
refresh entire library and then the book should show up in the list. Double tap
on the book and you will find a download all option.

Hope this helps. If you still have trouble I'll write a better description when
I'm not so rushed.

2013-09-26 Thread jean parker
Hello:
For what it is worth, here is my experience with the contacts app in iOS 7. I
am using an i phone 5.
I was able to enter a new contact with no problem. The only difficulty was
that vo took a few seconds to come back after I finished adding the contact.
Don't know if that helps identify the problem.

Hmmm, it strikes me as ironic that this seems to only work in Windows at the

Re: mac numbers and basic operations

2013-09-26 Thread Barry Hadder
Hey Paul,

You can do all of that using vo with Numbers with no problems. Numbers is a
little buggy, but there are very few accessibility issues. It's actually the
best of the three in that regard.
Good luck.

On Sep 26, 2013, at 7:38 AM, Paul Erkens wrote:

Paul.

Glad to hear it. And both the Read2Go and Voice Dream Reader apps work really
well with Bookshare books.

Re: Fastest Way to Scan Books?

2013-09-26 Thread James Lee

Thanks Anne for explaining the process.
I'll let you know if I go into Vuescan+Abby route.

Hello James,

I use a flatbed scanner and scan a double page at a time. I use VueScan to
capture the images and ABBYY FineReader Express to do the OCR. This is faster
than just using FineReader and the images are better so the OCR is more
accurate.

This does however mean buying two applications to get the job done. If you
don't buy a license for VueScan, it leaves a watermark on each scan which can
really mess up the OCR. The License for VueScan costs $39 for one year or $79
for life.

If you choose to use VueScan plus ABBYY FineReader Express, let me know and
I'll send you my little set up guide for VueScan.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the suggestion.
This is true, scanners with automatic document feeder are much faster than flat
bed. I haven't used one of those, so I haven't thought of it.
What if you can't take books apart. What would be the best solution?
Thanks for help,

JL

Hello James,

If you can take the books apart, you'd be fastest with the kind of scanner that
will scan both sides of a sheet and also has an automatic feed. The application
VueScan can probably handle one of these and it produces very good images.

However, VueScan is not good for OCR. It will do it, but not very well. You
can, however, feed the file of images to ABBYY FineReader Express for Mac which
does an excellent job on OCR.

Here is a link to the page showing which scanners are supported by VueScan:

Hi All,

I'm wondering what would be the fastest way for a college student to scan books

I know there are cameras out there for scanning documents like hover cam and
pearl, but I haven't actually used them.
I could be wrong, but pearl is only works with Open Book, right?
Can someone share their experience, and recommend what to buy?
Especially comparison would be very helpful.
Thanks so much,

Re: Battery Life on IOS 7

2013-09-26 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The Reduced Motion is a visual thing. From a visual prospective, it's the
fancy animations that the iOS displays when starting up apps and other iOS
activities. It is said that apps will start a little faster if the device is
set to Reduced Motion. Simply because it's doing these fancy graphics, it may
slightly affect battery life and since I can't see them, they may as well be
set to not happen.

HTH.

 • Background updating is On.
 • a number of Apps including Weather, Messages and Safari are running in

 • iCloud Syncing is On.
 • Mail notifications is on Manual.
 • Calendar runs always and notifications are on.
 • FaceBook notifications are On.
 • Reduced Motion is On.
 • WiFi and LTE/3G services are On.

Regular use yesterday included a number of calls including a 25 minute
call from my son. All calls are within a building with 8 inch think
cinder block walls, often multiple walls for the signal to make its way
through. Lots of Text messages, Calendar checks, check on tweets in
Twitter, checked news in the CBC News app a few times and probably some
 things I can't recall.

So, by no means super heavy duty use, lots of background things going on,
and battery life is quite normal in my opinion. As I mentioned before,
I'm not sure why others are having issues, nor am I disputing that you're
having these problems, I'm just not convinced that these problems are due
to a bug in the iOS. I've read lots of suggestions in this thread that
may help including letting your battery totally drain then charging it up
fully to reset any confusions with battery level, or possibly a weak
battery issue, or specific app or background app problem. We all use our
iPhones for such varied tasks that its difficult to pin-point an exact,
 "fix-all" for everyone.

 Have a good one.

Re: mac numbers and basic operations

2013-09-26 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Generally speaking, a Mac OS update has little or no effect on the
accessibility of iWorks. At least, I haven’t seen much of a difference going
from snow leopard, to Lion, to Mountain Lion using the applications found in
iWork 2009. So I wouldn’t put to much hope in Mavericks fixing iWork
accessibility issues. I would cross my fingers for whenever Apple puts out a
successor to iWork 09.

Re: IOS 7: bug in contact manager

2013-09-26 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Paul
I think I have figured out a workaround until Apple fixes it. It's not true
that you can't edit the thing although it does appear that way. When I went
into the name field voice over didn't tell me that I was moving between
insertion point at start or insertion point at the end. I tried this twice, and
here is what I think I have figured out.

Voice over is just not telling you what is what. It appears that if you double
tap on the name field, that you end up automatically at insertion point at end.
When I did it, voice over said insertion point at start every time, but that
was not true all the time, I think. So for now, you can just assume that you're
at the end and delete character by character. I could not get into the edit
field where you could take out the whole thing if you wanted to without doing a
character by character deletion. However, I was successful at editing the field
although not normY like we're used to.
Regards,
Gigi

Reading Text Documents

2013-09-26 Thread Helena Fehr
Hi all!
I've got a text document I'm supposed to read for class at my Bible college,
but VoiceOver won't read it, and just says return and bottom of document
because the professor who put the text online for me do download made a photo
copy of the book he wanted us to read, so now the text looks like a picture of
the text, rather than the normal text itself, like when you scan it into the
computer or type it out. The document is there on teh scren, and it looks clear
enough, but VoiceOver won't read it. Does anyone have ideas what I can do so
VoiceOver will read the text to me/ Is there an app I can get that'll read it?
Thanks!
God Bless!!!

Sure. Sounds to me like you've got a picture of a docment instead of the thing

RE: Reading Text Documents

2013-09-26 Thread David Tanner
You will need to get the picture file run through an optical character
recognition software and turned into a text file before any screen reader
will be able to read this document.

If you can not get help with this at the disabilities office at your college
then you really need to contact the state agency inyr state to get their
assistanc to help you get the instructor and your college to understand what
it takes to make a print document accessible to you.

Subject: Reading Text Documents

Hi all!
I've got a text document I'm supposed to read for class at my Bible college,
but VoiceOver won't read it, and just says return and bottom of document
because the professor who put the text online for me do download made a
photo copy of the book he wanted us to read, so now the text looks like a
picture of the text, rather than the normal text itself, like when you scan
it into the computer or type it out. The document is there on teh scren, and
it looks clear enough, but VoiceOver won't read it. Does anyone have ideas
what I can do so VoiceOver will read the text to me/ Is there an app I can
get that'll read it? Thanks!
God Bless!!!
Helena

RE: IOS 7: bug in contact manager

2013-09-26 Thread Kliphton
This must be a iPhone4 and 4s issue. Because I had my iPhone5 using IOS7
for 2 days, and now my 5s for almost a week, and I am able to edit contacts
on my 5s now, and on my 5 before I got my new device.

Hi Paul
I think I have figured out a workaround until Apple fixes it. It's not true
that you can't edit the thing although it does appear that way. When I went
into the name field voice over didn't tell me that I was moving between
insertion point at start or insertion point at the end. I tried this twice,
and here is what I think I have figured out.

Voice over is just not telling you what is what. It appears that if you
double tap on the name field, that you end up automatically at insertion
point at end. When I did it, voice over said insertion point at start every
time, but that was not true all the time, I think. So for now, you can just
assume that you're at the end and delete character by character. I could not
get into the edit field where you could take out the whole thing if you
wanted to without doing a character by character deletion. However, I was
successful at editing the field although not normY like we're used to.

Gigi

1. I went to the Apple Product Feedback

Thanks so much.

I am down to 17% battery without a lot of usage and on wifi the entire day and
the usage says 8 hours 54 minutes. Not sure what this really means but
considering how little I used my phone today that seems pretty bad

GPS and heavy internet use over 3G is a major battery drain. I was once
getting turn by turn directions in the car while streaming my iTunes Match

battery down to about 20% in only a few hours, which meant we had to ditch
the directions for the rest of the trip and the way home. :) If I'm
connected to wifi, however, I seem to get a day or so from one charge.

Hello. Did you try to edit first and last names with your IPhone 5? The other

not.

how to add background music to videos on youtube

2013-09-26 Thread Michael Babcock
hey guys;
I was looking at some of the videos that i had up on my youtube… I posted this
one about 2 months ago; and I wanted to send it on to this list; just incase
some of you wanted to do this; or incase some of you didn't know this could
even be done…
I don't explain very well how I do this, but I utilize voiceover in this video
and explain to the best of my ability is what I am doing in order to get the
music to play in the background behind this video. Check it out, it's not that
long, and you might be able to learn something. Experiment with it, I
personally would like to see what other people come up with.

Text documents on Mac

2013-09-26 Thread Helena Fehr
Is this abbey Fine Reader on the Mac app-store? Also, is there a good scanning
app at a reasonable price that will work to scan documents on the Mac?
This is rather off-topic, but I'm also wondering if it is possible to use the
Juliet Pro 60 embosser on the Mac. I'm switching more and more to my Mac, since
my windows computer is driving me insane, and I think it's pretty much junk.
Right now it sits in my dorm room and gets used as a radio for iTunes music, a
charger for my iPhone and bluetooth headset because I don't have enough plug-in
outlets in my room otherwise, to scan and braille because at this time I can't
do those things on the Mac. If I can save up enough money I want to buy an
iMac, and then leave this old Windows junk at home, so at least I have back-up
if something goes screwy or something. Sorry for those of you who still like
windows; I'm not dissing them; I just think my computer's one of those old
referbished ones the government bought me, and tried to put Windows seven on
it, and now it does screwy things like programs stop responding, and then I
have to restart the computer completely because the task manager isn't
accessible with screenreaders, and it drives me nuts. Thanks, guys!
God Bless!!!
Helena

Re: how to add background music to videos on youtube

2013-09-26 Thread Ray Foret jr
Mike, I am glad you put this up. I started you know just sort of playing
around with Imovie and found that if I position the playback head exactly where
I wanted it to be and then pressed the slash key to play the selection, I could
then move the ending point by just using the shift+right and left keys, and, I
can hear the playback change with the movement of the ending head. this means
that, I can playce the start head by interacting with it, then, move the ending
head close to it, then play the selection and move the ending point right or
left until it's frame perfect! What you think?

Sent from my mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind
built-in!

The Constantly Barefooted Ray

Re: how to add background music to videos on youtube

2013-09-26 Thread Cameron Strife
Hi. Just as a side note to music for youtube videos, or any other sort
of video for that matter, I compose and produce original music for
various types of media, including videos. If anybody would be
interested in original music for any sort of project, please drop me a
note off list to discuss your specific needs.

Thanks and have a great day,

Cameron.

Re: Fastest Way to Scan Books?

2013-09-26 Thread Sandi Jazmin Kruse
hi, when i decided too become a nurse i had too find out how too get
my information, obviously it meant i had too scan the books, i could
see what was around me , but obviously not read any single letter, and
well seen from my perspective, if an dyslexic can go through live with
out being able too connect letters and live happily so can i.
okies, so well a scanner was obviously what i needed, too me i knew it
was about getting the right tool for the right job, never mind if it
meant getting windows in a vmware image. As Eric i believe it was
said, study books and i tell you especially medical books can fast run
up in over $ 1. So i had too find a way i could get some of my
money back once i was done with the books.

How i did it.

I don't know how long time others have had too prepare for classes
etc, but it is not a unknown fact that nurses read massive amounts of
books, so for me it had to work the first time. and which solution
could give me that?
I started googling as a mad girl, 1 month to go, it was a tight fit. I
was actually unlike me not far from giving up when i found a store in
Copenhagen, called scan data or some such.
I told the owner what i needed and 50 minutes after i received a huge
package,. one scanner, a cd and the different connectors.
, it was a optic plus 2500 or so i believe, but i can find that out
more precisely later, the reason i got that scanner is as follows.
I knew my time table would be tight so i needed something both complex
and simple at the same time, i had been working with computers for
over 10 years, so i was relatively confident i could make it work one
way or the other.
The special thing about this scanner is not that it scans the books,
obviously, which it does relatively fast or slow, it is 23 seconds
before the scanning head is ready to go round the bush again. And
since it was the best solution i could get at that time all in all, it
was what i got. For medical books it works, if you do not scan the
whole book at one time. if you do your arms will be tired at the end.

The scanning process.
Okay so now we come too the most complex part of it all, or maybe not,
the scanning process, and how too do it.
Press contact, flip book over too the other half of its open page,
press contact again, turn page, press contact, do it as many times as
you need, for a book on about 400 pages , that would mean about 800
times.

So now that we got the book done and finish, what do you do? you OCR
it. press tab on your computer a few times, and it goes about doing
its thing as you go do something else, when it is done, it lays in a
notepad document and is ready to be read, as fast as you can manage.
Is it the Fastest way too scan a book on about 400 pages, i doubt it ,
but for OCR and scanning over all i say that it works pretty well if
you want it simple, also the alinement of the book is quite easy, so
far my only worry have been if it could run under vmware on my mac.
And it does that gorgeously with nvda.

A few words about why i got exactly this scanner.
I am not kidding when i say the following, medical books will in the
long run cost me more than my car, but too me it means that if i use a
scanner solution with out cutting the book up that i can sell it
again, and by that way get some of the money back from the book,
meaning obviously that i can use them for getting the rest of the
needed money for more books.
As i have said before, unless you are a really strong female, scanning
1000 pages in one go will tire you out.
I do believe i did it one time, and that was only cause i got Sandi
stubborn, and is not too be repeated. The other reason for getting
that scanner is that medical books are huge, page vice, it is not your
normal book sized novel.
The scanner it self was invented too scan old books, at least if i
shall trust the homepage. And i have too admit that it does that
really well, you see there are 2 things we have too remember when we
scan for studying, accuracy and speed. and i choose too call it
reusability of the scanned book, so at least for me cutting the books
too pieces is not an option, hey i am not rockefella, i am the other
fella smiles.
so realistically, how many pages can you scan on, say 1 hour, i will
say, 200 if you are focused about it. I am a bit of an airhead at
times, so it is most likely you can get it up too about 300.
So all in all, if you want the book scanned ultra fast this option is
most definitely not for you, but i am pretty sure it is the one that
gives the best solution in the long run, but then again, if you are
just needing it for reading a novel, i don't know how much the
accuracy means too you.
I personally have the scanning process running under windows xp
installed under vmware fusion, and i got to admit i was pretty
surprised too discover that the process worked as well under fusion as
it would under a native windows environment.
Eric, how well is the OCR after you have used the cam, i wonder, if
that process is fast

What do you want to know? It reads pdf, doc, epub, daisy, and a few other
formats in any of the A Capella or, on iOS7, VO's HQ voices. It hooks into
Dropbox, Bookshare, Project Gutenberg, Instapaper, and Google Drive to get

navigation (at least whatever the file supports), folders, saved reading
positions, bookmarking, and more. It cannot currently read daisy audio books.

Hello. Did you try to edit first and last names with your IPhone 5? The
other fields are editable in the normal way but the first and last name
fields are not.

Good job discovering this work around. It will work until Apple fixes

Regards,
Gigi

Paul
