navigating tables

2013-05-25 Thread Devin Prater
Hello all. Recently, I've started revisiting an old video game music remix
repository called OCRemix. At this site, you search for a game, and the list of
remixes, under the "songs" heading, is in a confusing table. Can anyone give me
any idea of how these tables work?

irc clients

2013-05-25 Thread Devin Prater
So in another OS, I had chatzilla and all sorts of wonderful chat clients that
worked well. Now, in the mac, is there anything? I've gotten adium to
half-work, but that's all. I can't display a list of channels, and I really
wish there was just a simple, stand-alone client I could use.

Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites

2013-05-25 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Just for fun I tried again to move a mailbox to the favoritesbar in Mountain
Lion OS X 10.8.3 by using VO + komma. I closed the preview pan, maximized the
window and pressed VO + Shift + F2 to get the window even more to the
foreground. It didn't help at all. The message: the window could be hidden by
something.
So Brian, unfortunately you are not alone. And I agree that Apple could have
and should have fixed a whole bunch of issues which occurred since Lion and
went on in Mountain Lion.
The only way to bring Apple to see and fix these issues is to send e-mails to
accessibil...@apple.com
as often as we can and describe the issues as detailed as we can. That's my
opinion.
All the best

FW: URGENT: Bookshare Needs Your Help, yes this iso n topic.

2013-05-25 Thread Karen Lewellen

Hi all,
Although signing petitions like this is a violation of journalistic
ethics for me, I sometimes share them so others can make a decision.

Such is the case here.
What makes this topical for this list is actually in the wired magazine
article referenced below.
It indicates that Apple apposes this treaty, without actually providing
proof for this.
Or correctly a publishing organization who apposes the treaty is making
the claim.
I am sharing this so those here can read make their own decision and
support the effort if they so desire.

Karen

-- Forwarded message --

It's not typical for us to send you an email like this, but we felt this
situation was so important it was necessary.

You may already be aware, but for years negotiations have been moving
forward on what many have come to call the "Treaty
 for
the Blind." The goal of the international treaty is to make it possible
for people who are blind, or have other print disabilities such as
dyslexia, to get access to the books they need for education, employment
and inclusion in society-no matter where they live. It's something we
already do, with great success, in the United States through Bookshare.

However, private interests are trying to alter the treaty in such a way
that it would become useless-even harmful. For example, they're trying
to get language adopted that basically says: "if you can buy it, you
can't borrow it." This is not only an attack on people around the world
with print disabilities-it's also an attack on libraries, like
Bookshare, and could have a drastic effect on the number of books you
have access to.

Our biggest worry is this becoming a treaty that could stop Bookshare
from serving our users in the United States the way we do today. We
need our government negotiating for a treaty that supports a library
like Bookshare.

That's why we're working with a coalition of disability and library
groups, including the National Federation of the Blind and the American
Council of the Blind, to fight back against the proposed changes by
these private interests. We'll do everything we can to secure a treaty
that both protects the access we have now and that will benefit people
with print disabilities around the world-but we need your help.

We're asking you to take a moment to sign a petition on the White
House's website that urges the President to step up his support:

http://ow.ly/lkJVs. If we can get to 100,000 signatures, the White House
is required to respond to the petition and will, hopefully, take
positive action. With your help we know we can reach that number. We
also recommend the
petition at the National Federation of the Blind's site, which
is particularly accessible.

Thank you for your time and support. Together, we believe that our
collective voice can make a real impact.

If you're interested in more background on the treaty, here are some
articles and resources you can review:

* Huffington Post piece by Jim on how the treaty is being poisoned
by private interests:

* WIRED Magazine article that gives some recent updates on the
treaty: http://ow.ly/lfP15

Sincerely,
Jim Fruchterman & Betsy Beaumon, Bookshare

P.S. Please post the link to the White House petition on your social
media to help spread the word and get your friends involved! Again, here
is the link:

Bards survey

2013-05-25 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hey guys
Just so all y'all know, NOS is putting out a survey on the Bard website. This
survey involves whether or not you want iPhone, android etc. for getting Bard
books. Of course I filled mine out and I would have put some exclamation points
 Afterward if I could have.

 Hi all,
Now that I have four of them consistently working, I feel ready to share
what I've been working on for the last couple days. I am putting together
a series of Apple scripts that will speak information, using VO if it is
on or the default system speech if it is not. The ones I have so far are
CPU, ram, wifi, and date/time. The really cool bit, though, is that each
starts out by setting up a template. You can change this template, using
keywords to define what is spoken where.

Let's look at the time script as an example, since everyone likes to have
the date and time spoken differently. Right now, I have my template set to:
 $24hours:$minutes, $weekday, $month $dayOfMonth, $year
 which yields, right now:
 22:55, Friday, May 24, 2013
Don't like 24 hour time? All you need to do is change your template:
 $12hours:$minutes $ampm, $month $dayOfMonth, $year
 and you'd hear something like:
 10:56 PM, Friday, May 24, 2013

My other scripts do the same thing - one keystroke, for instance, and I
know which wifi network I'm on and at what signal strength. Again, all of
these have templates with certain keywords, so you can change how the
script's information is spoken to exactly how you want it.

So, my question: what else would you all like to see? I plan one for the
space on the startup disk, and probably all other attached volumes, plus
one for battery, but what else would be handy? These scripts are really
meant to focus on quick bits of information that sighted people can use
the status menus or dashboard to quickly look at - they have immediate
access, and now we do too, plus we can fully customize the output. I make
no promises that all the ideas I receive will make it, but if enough
people ask for a certain feature, I'll try to add it in. I've thought
about weather, but I really want to just distribute the scripts and not
have any additional libraries or anything that you'd have to install. I'll
look more into weather at some point. So, any small pieces of information
you'd like to have one-key access to, let me know. thanks.

 Have a great day,

Re: Expanding & collapsing mailboxes in Mountain Lion

2013-05-25 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello Brian,

That might be it however, it's not clear that any of the mailboxes are
collapsed. This has occurred after adding additional accounts. I'm trying to
manage 4 accounts from Apple Mail.

I've tried interacting and not interacting with the mailbox table but don't
understand why I can't see all my imap structure of my personal account. Where
as for the gmail account, I can see all the imap structure.

fully correct. Back slash which is the key you use with VO to expand or in
expand mail boxes in the mailbox list in apple mail is the key you were
mentioning.

Hey Gina, Ok, I am not sure what exactly you are not seeing, if you are trying
to look at your account incoming and outgoing servers for each account you need
to do that in preferences go into the table and then stop interacting and move
to the right to see the details of each account. If you are looking to see your
inbox, drafts, etc for each individual account that can be viewed in the
mailbox table by toggling open each account. Hope this helps.

iTunes Question Resuming Play from last position

2013-05-25 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

I am not sure what I am doing wrong here, as I have downloaded a bunch of audio
movies, and have gone into the Get Info section and options and checked the box
to play from last position, yet if I start watching a movie and pause it to
resume a day or two later, the movie always goes back to the beginning. Am I
misunderstanding the function? I would have assumed by checking this box the
track would resume from where you left off. Does anyone know if there is a way
to do that?Thanks

Re: iTunes Question Resuming Play from last position

2013-05-25 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Try treating the movie as an audiobook. In the get info dialog, select the
option tab, and select media kind as audiobook. It will move our movies to the
books section of iTunes but, this should insure it remembers the place you left
off.

Re: Need an iTunes command

2013-05-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

You can sort by any of the columns within your Songs or Playlist table with the
regular VO sort command of VO-shift-back slash. Make sure that your songs are
in List view, Interact with the Table, press VO-shift-back slash, navigate
right or left to the column you wish things sorted by, then press VO-space.
Pressing it once will sort ascending and a second time will sort it descending.
Press VO-shift-back slas again to toggle out of the sort headers.

HTH.

Re: Assisting an App developer with accessibility issues

2013-05-25 Thread Esther
Hi Mike,

A web search shows that Appcelerator Titanium is a software
development kit that allows app developers to design apps for multiple
mobile platforms (Android, iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows) using a
single design interface/code base. As such, the developer's comment
is probably correct: if he were using Interface Builder, supplied by
Apple for iOS app development, it's highly likely that many features
that aid in an app's accessibility would get implemented by default,
even if the developer is not aware of VoiceOver. Since the
Appcelerator Titanium SDK likely aims for a kind of lowest common
denominator of performance across 4 mobile platforms, 3 of which have
no accessibility guidelines built into the basic app interface, it's
quite likely that some of these features won't be implemented. I'd
guess that it might still be possible to run the designed app through
Interface Builder for evaluation purposes.

You might point the developer to Matt Legend Gemmell's blog post,
"Accessibility for iPhone and iPad apps"
http://mattgemmell.com/2010/12/19/accessibility-for-iphone-and-ipad-apps/

There are other resources listed on the AppleVis page for developers
at:
http://www.applevis.com/information-app-developers

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Need an iTunes command

2013-05-25 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

In the Songs view, it should automatically be in List view unless you have the
Column Browser enabled. Make sure that the Column Browser is not enabled and
you should be able to sort as mentioned when in that view. When in Playlists,
the List view option is within the View menu that is just to the right of the
Shuffle button on the main iTunes screen.

HTH.

Re: Expanding & collapsing mailboxes in Mountain Lion

2013-05-25 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi,

Just to clarify, in your mailbox list, at the top, are a bunch of special
mailboxes. These are special because they group together mailboxes of the same
type from different accounts. These include inbox, sent, drafts, trash,
archived etcetera. YOu can expand and collapse each of these (inbox,
sent, drafts etcetera) using the VO-BACKSLASH keystroke. Below these are your
accounts with all their IMAP folder structures. At the top might even be an On
My Mac section if you have local mailboxes. You can expand and collapse each of
these account folders to reveal or hide their contents with VO-BAKCSLASH. If
any of the folders contain sub-folders you can again expand and collapse them
with VO-BACKSLASH.

In short, your accounts with all their IMAP folders should be at the bottom of
the mailbox list and can be expanded and collapsed. They might not contain
inbox, drafts, sent, trash, junk, archived etcetera as these are up the top in
the special folders section. If you have any custom folders, however, they
should appear here down the bottom. If They are expanded but simply don't
contain the custom folders you have on the server then I'm not sure what's
going on. Might be a question for Apple Care or one of the Apple Support forums.

Hope this is of some help.

Hello All,

I'm pulling my hair out here because I've done something to my configuration so
that I can't see all my mailboxes at level 2. They are imap boxes and I can
only see the inboxes, trash and sent boxes. But a structure of folders and
mailboxes for storing is still on the server and accessible as I can move
messages to them but I can't traverse them. In order to read messages in those
folders at level 2. I can access them on another machine, it's something I've
done on this MP.

Anyone got any ideas of what I need to do to reveal all my filed messages?

Many thanks for your attention and suggestions.

Re: What would you all like to see in scripts to speak system status?

2013-05-25 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Alex,

This is a fantastic project you're doing. Thanks for your time and effort as it
will benefit many.

RE time, would it be possible to separate the date and time, so we could have
one key for the time and another for date?

Wifi and RAM usage you've already mentioned, and I reckon they're great ideas.

There's already a freely available script for battery status. I have it on my
MacBook. It's fantastic.

One that I'd really like, is for the name and artist of the currently playing
song in iTunes.

Another idea might be for the sound output device. I usually just pop up to
Audio Switcher in the extras menu, but I guess a simple keystroke would be
easier.

Other ideas might be related to Calendar, Reminders or Notification Center. A
key press to see how many items/badges there are in Reminders, or to read out
today's reminders. Or one to read out today's Calendar events. Or To read out
Notification Center alerts. I'm not exactly sure what, if anything, related to
this kind of thing would be possible with Apple Scripts, so can't give too much
more information. But hopefully with that encouragement your innovative spirit
can run wild. Basically, I like Calendar and Reminders so something to let me
know what I need to do and when would be great.

Look forward to hearing more on your progress.

Nic
