Accessibility of Mac OS X
Hi list, Below is a link to a blog article where I've discussed what I think are some of the key accessibility issues with Mac OS 10.8. https://nicholascharlesparsons.wordpress.com/2013/04/02/accessibility-of-mac-os-x-things-to-address-in-10-9/ Of course, it is by no means comprehensive. I'd welcome any comments, corrections or suggestions. Cheers, Nic -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Seeing Word count in Pages?
Hi Donna, Bring up the inspector with Command-Option I. Select the Info Tab which is the third tab to the right. You will see the Word Count in there, VO-right arrow will provide this information. Re: Seeing Word count in Pages?
Hello Donna, The word count in Pages appears to VO as an image. You can find it to the right of where VO says "Layout area" but it isn't readable with VO and I haven't found a way round this as I can't seem to highlight it to use the trick of copying the highlighted text into TextEdit. In any case, that would take longer than going to the Inspector. Cheers, Anne -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Skipping YouTube Ads and Subtitles in YouTube Videos
Hello, Does anyone else have problems skipping YouTube ads when using youtube.com on the Mac? It works great on IOS, but with the regular website on the Mac, although I can go back in the video with J, play/pause with K, and fast forward with L, I don't know how to skip an ad at the beginning. Is it because it is embedded into a javascript or something like that? Also, does anyone know how to view the subtitles or other text included with a YouTube video? Re: Root User Issue
Let's get a few things straight. 1. In the first place, aside what you say to appreciate the differences, what exactly were you trying to do that required root access, as that is normally strongly discouraged unless it be a very last resort. 2. Summarize for me the process that you took to enable the root account, as depending on how you did it... (there are several ways...) that could explain why Voiceover isn't working. Chris. - Original Message - From: Richard Ring To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2013 7:04 PM Subject: Root User Issue Although one can accomplish most anything that is truly necessary on the Mac as an administrative user, in order to fully appreciate the difference between an administrative user and a root user, I have enabled the root user. Unfortunately, when I log in as the root user, I cannot turn VoiceOver on with command f5 as I might expect. When I issue this command, I continue to have a silent computer. Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Two questions related to iPhone 5
Hello all. Hope you all having a good weekend. First, on my iPhone 5, how do I rename a photo once I have saved it to the camera roll or photo stream? I can't figure this out. As corollary, how would I set a timer, so that I may place to camera at a certain distance, and have time to set up the shot before the photo was taken? My next question concerns Sprint TV. Has anyone tried it, and is it accessible? Have a great weekend. Thanks again. Re: Dragging and Dropping a mailbox to Favorites
Hi Nic, thanks for encouraging me not to give up. :-) Unfortunately I tried everything possible, I suppose, even VO + Shift + F2 and CTRL + CMD + f and both together. I tried both methods VO + komma and VO + period and the conventional way using VO + CMD + Shift + spacebar and so on. As I wrote in a previous thread, Apple themselves confirmed the issue in VO since Mountain Lion. That's what I find the most odd thing about it because it works for some people and for some not. That might make it hard for them to duplicate this issue. All the best Jürgen Am 19.05.2013 um 03:32 schrieb Nicholas Parsons : > Hi Jürgen, > > This is odd because it works perfectly for me. interesting observation with the newest skype
Looks like the newest skype uses a different control now for displaying chat messages, it's no longer using an html view, but rather a grid. Fortunately this does not cause any problems with accessibility, actually in some ways it reads a bit better. Re: Two questions related to iPhone 5
Hi, really can't rename photos/videos on the device. The best you can do is label them with Voiceover. But, this isn't a great solution because your really labeling an area of the screen, not the photo itself. So, if anything gets rearranged in your camera roll, you labels are gone. I am pretty sure there is no time delay in the native camera app. Pleas someone jump in here if I'm wrong. You might be able to get an app from the apps store that does this though. I have tried Sprint TV. Its not terribly straight forward but, its fairly accessible. Re: Two questions related to iPhone 5
Mark, I'm not going to be of the slightest help regarding your second question, however, regarding your first two, I don't think that you can do either without a jailbreak, which I dont' wish to do on my phone. I did it for a short period of time, and though it did give me some cool functionality, I didn't get enough more to justify it, and frankly, I as expected, had nothing but problems afterward... why do you think Apple doesn't recommed you doing it? Not wanting to get into a debated hot philosophical discussion on that topic, but it's my two cents worth... and I understand my opinion is just one of many people, so don't chop off my nuts for voicing it. Re: interesting observation with the newest skype
I wouldn't think it would make things any worse? What's your logic on why you think clicking links would be harder? If you want to add me, I am chris28210. I've been meaning to get up with you anyway. I sent you a Skype request a while back on an old account I used to use, but it kind a sat there for a year or so, and never was acted upon; thus, I pretty much finally just gave up on trying. playing/searching an artist in iTunes?
Hi all, I just wanted to load all songs by a given artist in iTunes, so I could have a table of all that artist's tracks, regardless of album. How do I do this? After much fiddling I managed to get a table of one album, but not a unified table of all of them. What am I missing? Are there key commands that might speed up the process? As it is, iTunes seems to require way more arroinw and interacting than it really should. Any help would be great. Thanks. Yes I have the same difficulty. I'm wondering if this was done intentionally so you couldn't skip over the adds. Re: Skipping YouTube Ads and Subtitles in YouTube Videos
How did you discover these controls, by the way? I stumbled on them by mistake because I pressed the wrong key. And no, it has nothing to do with keeping you from skipping ads, as visually you are able to skip ads after five seconds for the majority of the ads.
