Connecting Music Keyboard to a Mac
Hello. I recently acquired a yamaha Prse333 keyboard which I'd like to connect to my Mac. Does anyone know if a Mac could handle a music keyboard so that I can download updates etc or would I have to connect it to my windows virtually? Thanks. Re: a very useful app for the physically disabled
Hi there, There are still a few bugs in Voiceover ACCESSIBILITY, though they are minor and hopefully will be fixed by the developer soon. I am in contact with Peter Kamb, and things are looking good. I can also say that my mussel memory of two handed touch typing are coming back quickly. I am very close to my old typing speed as I send this. Typing at speed I will say, is a joy. Re: Flac files inquiry
You could also do the conversions With max for free from http://www.sbooth.org. Esther, what problem did you encounter with fluke? It's just a driver package. You install it, and then import flac files into your itunes library along side your mp3's. It also adds support for flac to the quicklook. It's not the most stable thing ever and it hasn't been developed in a long while as far as I know, but it's a pretty elegant solution when it works. Re: Flac files inquiry
Hi Christine, Sorry, I can't help being a bit sarcastic when it comes to ITunes. I really think switching to vlc is good advice. I just can't stand anything about ITunes. It seems to have worked for you too, so hopefully we're good. As far as getting the music onto your phone, there's dropbox, ICloud, that program that was free for a weekend a few weeks ago which let you browse your phone in an explorer on your computer… ITunes is not the tour de force it used to be. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks it's awful. :) You do need to install flac support for your I device though if you want to play the tunes on your phone without converting. I haven't checked out ways for doing that in a couple of years, but some one probably has an answer. Oh, I am not much of an iTunes fan, but all things being equal, not being overly tech-savvy (mostly because life doesn't provide the time to learn how to become so), it just seems less cumbersome to deal with it. So, if I want to convert for purposes of getting the tunes on my phone, do I convert to mp3 or m4A, or does it matter -- will either work for iTunes integration? Lol, I know I'm probably going to be in the minority here but, I honestly don't have many problems with iTunes, Especially on the Mac. Do people not like iTunes because it forces you to handle your music in a specific way you aren't accustom to or, want? Or is there other reasons. Because for me, once I learned how iTunes treats your media, and how it goes about organizing and such, I don't find it any more cumbersome then any high end music app. For example, Windows media player. Just curious. :) Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On May 17, 2013, at 8:04 AM, Ray Foret Jr wrote: > Of course, about the only thing good about ITunes is it's .m4a format. > > > Sent from my mac, the only computer with full accessibility for the blind > built-in! > Sincerely, > The Constantly Barefooted Ray > Still a very proud and happy Mac and Iphone user! > > On May 17, 2013, at 6:54 AM, erik burggraaf wrote: > >> Hi Christine, >> >> Sorry, I can't help being a bit sarcastic when it comes to ITunes. Re: Flac files inquiry
For me, I just hate having two copies of everything, one on my external drive and another in the ITunes folders. I know I can set ITunes to not copy over files when adding to the ITunes Library: however, every single time I tried this, ITunes crashed. While I do prefer the new look of ITunes, (the radio buttons work better for me than the sidebar and tables ever did.) still and all, IF you've got a huge library of stuff, it gets cumbersum to have to check individual stuff to add to or take from your Iphone. That's where Wondershare Mobilego for IOS really comes to the rescue for me. The fact is this. I think Apple really could have done a better job with the way ITunes functions. I think it's very much against what used to be the Apple policy of not making assumptions about what you want and the way you want it. ITunes seems to go very much the other way for me. Itunes opinions was Re: Flac files inquiry
Hi Ricardo. My main complaint with ITunes is that id does "manage" my media. I don't want it or any player to do that. For example, I have thousands of audiobooks here on a hard drive, many of which have broken or missing tags. Same with music. I have a hole collection of flac files, many of which would have to be retagged. My old roommate spent over 3 months retagging his music collection so that it would go into ITunes properly. I don't like the overhead it blows on large collections. I don't like the 20 and 30 step processes required to do things like burning a CD. I can't stand the issues like the one that started this discussion where Apple has decided they don't want to support flac or some other type of media and forced you to go out and do some fiddly-assed workaround to get your flacs into your library. I have a lot of the same complaints with windows media player and other players. I don't want a media manager. If Itunes would let me turn off it's library and play an mp3 without giving me any crap, you'd never hear me complain. Other players don't force you to import your files in a certain way. It's optional. You can do it if you want, but if not, you just get on with the music. Using the iPhone's "check spelling" feature
I turned on "check spelling" under settings/general/keyboard. Then I went into the notes app and deliberately misspelled a word. VoiceOver flagged it as misspelled as soon as i hit space after the word, but aside from that, I can't figure out how to get it to present a list of alternate spellings, or anything of that sort. Does VO make corrections as well as flagging misspelled words? and -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Erik, You and I agree completely!!! 100%!!! I'll manage my own media thank you very much!!! I know you feel exactly the same way as I do. Perhaps it's high time that we who feel this way should write Tim Cook and express our concerns. To speak frankly, (and when do I ever speak otherwise?) Chris, So are you saying that the m4a files will be converted into the standard audio cd format? If so, that isn't what I was after, as the play list I want to burn has over 3 hours of music. garageband: Can't play an instrument using the computer keyboard
Hi. I'm looking into Garageband again after not having looked at it for more than one year. I'm trying to play the piano using the computer keyboard, but there's no sound at all. I choose the "grate piano" from the list of instruments, press command k to enable the keyboard, stop interacting with everything and then there's no sound when pressing the keys. If I press R, it starts to record. I have tried to switch to the keyboard window by using the window chooser, but that doesn't make any difference. The track is not muted or soloed. Any ideas about what I have messed up or what I'm doing wrong? Can I in any ways reinstall Garageband to make sure that nothing is corrupt? Any Accessible Database Programs for the Mac with VO
I have been using Numbers and have reached the frustration point of all of its issues with VO. There is no search functionality when you need to jump down a spreadsheet since Mountain Lion was introduced as it broke the old search command. Additionally several times a day when enterting info into a cell numbers just stops working with VO, and I have to quit the program than reopen and go back to the cell where I was enterting info. Also, I constantly get busy busy messages when enterting info. Yes, I have spoken to Apple Accessibility about all the issues and have gotten the usual response, we are aware of the issues but can't tell you when they will be fixed. I find it pathetic that such a forward thinking company about accessibility in Apple can't get their own product to properly work with VO. As someone who uses spreadsheets quite a bit for work, I need to find something else to use. I need a program to keep track of contacts with when I last contacted them, what the response was and other info, so viewing and editing all of this in a spread sheet would be perfect. Is there any spread sheet program or database program that anyone knows of that works well with VO? Re: Any Accessible Database Programs for the Mac with VO
Brian, I love Tap Forms, a database software package which costs $24.99 in the Mac Appstore. It works beautifully with VO, has an OSX and an IOS version, both which must be purchased separately, although the OSX version is the one that costs $24.99, while the IOS version is around $6.00. You are able to create your own form fields for database info, including checkboxes, a notes field, a website field, regular text input areas for name, address, etc. In addition, you can also insert the date and time if you want to have the current date and time automatically inserted. It comes with predesigned forms for you to view and add records to so you can become comfortable with the program before you begin creating your own database forms. I hope this helps! Re: Any Accessible Database Programs for the Mac with VO
Hey Harry, Thanks so much for the info. Wil check this out in the app store, as my frustration has boiled over with Numbers. Can you create an accessible spreadsheet inthe mac version or something similar like a list view of all your contacts that you can quickly scroll through with the arrows or other commands. Just want to make sure the program does what I need it to do before spending the dollars. Re: Any Accessible Database Programs for the Mac with VO
Brian, You can arrow down through the list of records in the database, yes. There is a bit of interacting to view the particular record, as you interact with a scroll area, but it really isn't difficult. The idea of a database, if you aren't familiar, is that you view a record at a time. Say you should want to find information on a customer or contact who contacted you regarding a particular issue, or you want to find anything related to a particular keyword, you can do a search within a specific form for any records related to that keyword or keywords. Databases work to organize information to keep all like data together, which means that you have a standard form related to medical visits, say. Then you create records using that form that tell about all of the different medical visits you or others had. That way if you want to find particular information on a medical visit you can search within that form. If you are looking for a particular order number to see what customer it applies to, you search for it and it quickly brings up that information. I have to say I haven't used it very much yet, but from what I have used of it, I love it. I hope this is helpful and isn't to confusing. Thanks, Harry On May 17, 2013, at 1:04 PM, Brian Fischler wrote: > Hey Harry, Thanks so much for the info. Wil check this out in the app > store, as my frustration has boiled over with Numbers. Re: Flac files inquiry
Hi folks, I'm a bit late to the party on this sorry, but I hope it might still help somebody. I just checked, and a little app I bought called mp3 converter converts from flac into mp3. I got it ages ago from the app store for about $5. It's really easy to use, and converts audio and video files to mp3. It definitely does flac. You can choose bit rate etc with it. I just found it by searching for mp3 converter in the app store and it came up. Hope it helps somebody. Re: Boot Camp
Becky Bootcamp allows you to use Windows on your Mac using physical hardware and resources. The problem is you need to install manually and no unattended installations will work for reasons I will not go into here for now. You are better off using Vmware Fusion if you are not up to the task of trying Bootcamp on your own. Vmware Fusion allows you to use Windows on your Mac by virtualizing the hardware and resources and running in what is called a virtual machine. Best thing is Vmware Fusion can fully automate the installation using its own Easy Install feature. Hello Chris, I'm sure you'll find something if you search for: how to encrypt files on usb from linux I just found this link: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-how-to-encrypt-and-decrypt-files-with-a-password.html Or http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2039218 I can't remember how I digit some years ago on GNU Linux. Re: Any Accessible Database Programs for the Mac with VO
Hi Brian, I'm not sure what happened with the phone, but I was glad to help, and I hope it works great for you. It was nice talking to you, and good luck. Re: Reading Ebooks
Adobe Digital Editions reads DRM protected e-books. You can only read a page at a time though. NO line, word or character navigation, but you can copy and paste each page into another app such as Notes or TextEdit and read it normally. I'm guessing this would make hyperlinks impossible or difficult to use. Bookle, iText Express and Safari can all read DRM free e-books. Bookle's library and table of contents can be difficult to navigate once you have several books. iText Express doesn't seem to have table of contents support at all so far as I can tell. For DRM free e-books I tend to just change the file extension to .zip, unzip them with StuffIt Expander and then read the html files with Safari. There is one file for each chapter, but you don't necessarily know which chapter it is until you open the file to check.
