Youtube crashing Mac
Hi, Has anybody noticed that Youtube is crashing Macs? Everytime I go in to Youtube this morning, no matter what I search for, my Mac freezes and I have to do a hard reset. I most recently found that if I spent only a minute in Youtube just browsing, I freeze up totally and canot do anything. Yes, I do have the latest flash. Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.
Hello, I have been able to duplicate the issue of not being able to flick left or right to different elements on the menu screen. I am pretty certain this is caused when you go into view options in the menu, and lower brightness. Even lowering brightness to 90% in the app will cause this. I've been able to duplicate this on my iPad mini and iPhone 5. hth Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On May 4, 2013, at 11:04 PM, Ricardo Walker wrote: > Hi, > > Sorry. I had a look at it a couple of days ago in fact. The web interface is a bit confusing, and I wasn't able to change anything in the advanced settings dialogue. Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.
Hi Jamie, I have had a similar experience to yours. Mine is with the New York Times. What appears in the New York Times app which is a subscription is often quite different from what is in the NFB Newsline version. I have no idea why this is the case. While I have great appreciation for what NFB Newsline offers, I have found that I prefer the subscription directly from the New York Times. Of course, you have to pay for the subscription and NFB Newsline is free. Can't read using digital additions, anyone remember what the accessible version was called?
Hi guys, I had an accessible version of adobe digital additions on my old mac which died, and I can't remember what it was called to download it to my new mac. I recall it was something additions, but I can't remember what the something was. I'm trying to read a book using the current adobe, which claims to be accessible, but it's impossible to read the book, it's running all the words together with no spaces. Can anyone help? Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.
The reason the papers are so different is probably because NFB only gets the free content. We don't pay, so we don't get access to *everything*. Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.
Ricardo, I think you have indeed found the problem. Can't lower brightness. I had done that on my iPad right before having the problem of not being able to flick to items on the menu. And I have not done it on the 4S, where the same book's menu does not exhibit this problem. So, now I wonder where to report this bug. Maybe the app store has a support link for the Kindle app. Mary Mary Otten motte...@gmail.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Youtube issues purcist and may be linked to Safari
Okay, For me, the Youtube issues have returned. I cannot go there for more then a second before my Mac just totally freezes and I have to do a hard reset. This is also the case with Firefox. However, with Webkit, this seems not to happen; and, the Youtube app on my Iphone 5 appears not to be effected. I must, therefore, conclude that Youtube has done something which makes it incompatible with the current eddition of Safari. They must have done this within the past 24 hours as this problem did not start for me until just this very morning. Anybody else notice this? This is the same price that shows up for season 5, along with the individual episode prices. I don't have my Mac handy, so I can't describe where to navigate in iTunes on the Mac. HTH. Question about Dictation.
Hello All. I have set up Dictation using the I Mac and have not used it until now. I could not believe how accurate it was even though I'm using Alex. The funny thing is if I chose the American Voice on my I phone 5 it always gets things wrong because of my British accent. I wonder then if I'm using Alex on my I Mac then how does that understand my British accent whereas Samantha on my I phone 5 does not. Re: buying a season pass for a TV show on iTunes?
Hi Esther, I see that same price. I could be wrong, but I think that that is to actually purchase that season. I was trying to do this on my Mac, and when I searched for Buy in the item chooser, the item that showed was "Buy for $44.99. My understanding of the season pass concept was that it is somehow time-limited, or limited to a certain number of viewings, and thus significantly cheaper than the purchase rice. $45 is pretty high to purchase a season, if I bought the DVD at BestBuy, it's probably cost about $30. So I can't believe that would be the charge for a rental price. Cheers, Donna. season pass mystery solved
In case anyone else is curious … I just googled Season pass. Apparently what it does is that it downloads episodes automatically as they're released. and you do get a discount, but nothing to get excited about. The individual episodes are about $3, which would be somewhere between $60 and $70 per season, depending on the number of episodes. So by that standard, $45 is a pretty good price. But it's still a lot higher than the cost of buying a season on DVD. Too bad, I prefer having TV episodes on my Mac. Re: Question about Dictation.
that makes sense. If you have the American voice selected, and you have a British accent, it's thinking you're speaking American English. If you have your dictation said to English UK, then it knows that you're speaking in a British accent. Re: buying a season pass for a TV show on iTunes?
Hi Donna, The season pass is actually for buying (not renting) episodes at a discounted rate, and is only in effect while the season's episodes are still being broadcast. So the individual episodes are $2.99 each, and with an expected season's worth of 24 episodes, that's about $45 vs. $72, plus a few season-only extras. Here's the definition that I looked up at About.com: Definition: iTunes Season Pass - The iTunes Season Pass is a feature of the iTunes Store that allows users to purchase a full season's worth of a given TV show at the iTunes Store before all episodes have been released. The Season Pass feature allows users to pre-pay for the season's worth of content, usually at a discounted price, and then download the episodes from the iTunes Store as they become available. This purchase is made at the show's page in the iTunes Store. All currently available episodes will automatically download. Later episodes are downloaded automatically as they are released on iTunes. This feature is only available for shows that are currently being broadcast on TV or cable. Shows that are no longer producing new episodes are not eligible for Season Passes. So the comparison is not against a DVD purchases at Best Buy, since this isn't available while the current season is still being broadcast, but the premium price you're paying to get the shows as they appear. I've never bought a season pass, either, so this is just what I understand from the various descriptions of the process on the web. HTH. Re: problem with messages going to the Cloud
Ahh, I understand now. Yes, that would have been a problem. The archive folder groups together all the archive folders from all your accounts, including On My Mac. A much, much easier way to move messages to your archive folder is to simply press COMMAND-CONTROL-A. If you do this while a message in your iCloud account is selected, it will automatically move the message to your Archive folder in iCloud. Alternatively, a middle road would be to open the context menu with VO-SHIFT-M, go to the Move to sub-menu, and select the archive folder under iCloud. Except, of course, if you want to copy the message to archive instead of moving it, in which case choose the Copy to sub-menu from the context menu. Happy emailing! :) On 04/05/2013, at 2:50 AM, Eugenia Firth wrote: Hi Nick I figured it out, but it never occurred to me that when I landed on the name of the folder I needed to find the entry that said iCloud and then press tab from there. Re: Question about Dictation.
I would guess that it's more to do with the internet connection and microphone quality than any setting. I don't think Siri/dictation rely on settings to pick your accent. There are simply too many accents for this to work. A Scottish accent is probably more different from the Queen's English than a Californian accent. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any accent settings for Siri or dictation. And I don't think it tries to narrow the range of matches based on your region settings or the voice you have set for speech output. I'm guessing it just runs your speech through its database until it gets a match, and limits this only by language, not accent. But all this is just my guessing. :) Main thing is, cool for you that it works so well on your fancy new iMac! Woot woot! Why don't you just turn the screen curtain on instead of lowering brightness? Or do you still need the screen to look at? P.S. Re: buying a season pass for a TV show on iTunes?
It is a bit pricey. But it's great to have the episodes become available so soon and download themselves automatically to your Mac. And much easier, in my opinion, than stuffing around with DVD discs, complicated websites and the like. Re: Tap Forms
Sorry, you can ignore that last message. In my excitement I replied before doing my own research. The page in the App Store answered most of my questions. Now I just need to have an internal battle over whether it's worth me spending more money on an app which is totally cool but I could probably live without. Have you tried the iOS version yet? If so, is it accessible too? On 06/05/2013, at 11:42 AM, Nicholas Parsons wrote: Hi Harry, This really interests me. Is the idea that you can create your own databases with this software? Can you do advanced searches limited or filtered by criteria which you have added to entries in the database? Is it available through the Mac App Store? It is database software which runs on OSX and IOS, but each must be purchased separately to allow cloud syncing. The OSX version costs $24.99 USD. It is completely accessible from what I can tell, and it allows search rules for quick searching and retrieval of records, although i have yet to try this feature. You can both import and export CSV files from Numbers/Excel, as well as import, export, and print records. You can include checkboxes, notes, and pick lists in your forms from which you then create your records. It supports file attachments as well. It seems like a wonderful product so far. Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.
Hello, Sorry, I forgot to write the main part of my message. lol. In my opinion, screen curtain is not as good at conserving battery life as actually reducing screen brightness. In my rudimentary testing, turning the screen curtain on just basically turns the pixels opaque, not dim the backlight. Its like pulling a black shade down on a window streaming in sunlight. Just because the shade is down, doesn't mean the sun isn't still up. :) Ricardo Walker rica...@appletothecore.info Twitter:@apple2thecore www.appletothecore.info On May 5, 2013, at 9:32 PM, Nicholas Parsons wrote: > Why don't you just turn the screen curtain on instead of lowering brightness? > Or do you still need the screen to look at? > > P.S. Re: buying a season pass for a TV show on iTunes?
Hi Stacy, Basically, it means that you buy the whole season, and you get to download the episodes as they're released. So, if next September I buy a season pass for Big Bang Theory season 7, each week the new episode will be downloaded to my device. It's also about $.60 cheaper than buying each episode individually. And Nick is right, having TV shows on your Mac or i-devices is much, much easier than fiddling around with DVDs.
