Re: Scrolling the dock from a visual perspective

2013-05-04 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

Yes. And sighted people can just move the pointer to the side of the screen
where they have placed the dock and it will pop up, and hide itself when they
move away from ther area if they set this up in system prefs. If not, the dock
is always on screen unless they put an app in full screen mode.

Switching audio device in VLC

Hi there folks,

I am trying to switch audio devices in VLC media player, to soundflower. For
some reason, the audio devices submenu in the audio menu on the VLC menu bar is
dimmed. How do I rectify the situation?

Re: need some help with pages

2013-05-04 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi there,

To be 100% honest, I'd get a free text editor called Bean. It's not available
from the app store, however, but you can download it from the following link:
http://www.bean-osx.com/Bean.html

It's completely accessible with VoiceOver, and is vastly superior to Pages in
my opinion, since there's no way to see what page you're on in a document as
far as I can tell. With Bean, it will tell you what page your on, or at least
shows you somewhere.
As far as the double spacing goes, I'm not quite sure how to do that, since I
don't use Pages.

Re: need some help with pages

2013-05-04 Thread Brandon Olivares
For double spacing, and most other kinds of styling, you'll want to use the
inspector, by pressing command-option-i. There's a group of radio buttons, and
I think you'll want to press “text.” Then under the text tab, you'll see an
option that says lines, with the number 1. Change that to 2, and it'll be
double spaced. Just press escape, or command-option-i again, to hide the
inspector.

To tell the number of pages, you can either tell this in the inspector under
document > info, or if you stop interacting with the body of the page, usually
it'll say something like “body page 1 of x.” If you stop interacting again,
you'll be in the layout area where all of the pages are listed.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

You need to have an audio file playing while switching to an other audio
output. Otherwise the sup menu is dimmed. Let me know if you still have trouble
on doing this. I'm switching between my Apple tv using Airplay and my jack

Hi,

No, I've never had Bean crash at all. As far as a word count, I haven't found
how to do that yet. If pages gives you all of that info, plus more, I may start
using that as my word processor of choice, instead of Bean. I just used a free
alternative since I didm know much about Pages. Lol.

Keyboard command

2013-05-04 Thread Adrienne Sinclair Chalmers
Hi

Another way of trying to find text is to do command i. I use this with a
particular software update message from a non-Apple source which pretends it
has no text in it.

It might also be that you are not in the right window, so try window chooser
menu as well.

Best

Adrienne

I don't mind the page turn noise but do set the smallest font size to maximise
the amount of text on each page though.

question about VueScan

2013-05-04 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
My question about VueScan is this. I did several scans, and I was asked if I
wanted to rewrite the file I had told the program to use. I said yes thinking
it would delete the old material and replace it with the new stuff. Not so. I
just discovered that I had new stuff added to the old. Does it cause a problem
to delete the file? That is, will the program just re-create the file if one
doesn't already exist?

Regards,
Gigi

Tap Forms

2013-05-04 Thread Harry Hogue
Hello,

I wanted to let you guys know about Tap Forms by Tap Zapp Software, Inc. It is
database software which runs on OSX and IOS, but each must be purchased
separately to allow cloud syncing. The OSX version costs $24.99 USD. It is
completely accessible from what I can tell, and it allows search rules for
quick searching and retrieval of records, although i have yet to try this
feature. You can both import and export CSV files from Numbers/Excel, as well
as import, export, and print records. You can include checkboxes, notes, and
pick lists in your forms from which you then create your records. It supports
file attachments as well. It seems like a wonderful product so far.

Thanks,

Harry

Hi,

Why? I can't see why that would matter much. But, I would assume the kindle
pages probably hold more text since there are no controls or elements visible
on the screen unlike iBooks. But, I'm no where near certain of this. Its just
a guess.

Re: question about VueScan

2013-05-04 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
Hi there.

The file scan 001.txt is automatically created by the program if you tell it
not to attend text. So, you can go ahead and delete that file; VUE scan will
recreated for the next OCR batch.

However, should you ever wish to attend new text to the old text in the file,
rather than overwriting it, the plus sidn lcan be put after the number in the
file telling Vuescan to Add newly scanned material to the file.

Hope this helps.

Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-04 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi all,
Is anybody else with an iPhone 5 not able to flick left and right in the reader
menu? I don't mean the home screen, but the menu from within a book. I can
touch elements on the screen and activate them, but I have to find them rather
than flicking to them. On the iPad the reader menu works normally, so I'm
wondering if it's an iPhone 5 issue?
Otherwise, I'm loving the accessibility on the Kindle app.

RE: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-04 Thread Jamie Pauls
I signed up for a subscription of MacWorld on the Kindle without realizing
that it is available through NFB Newsline. The version of the magazine on
the Kindle app appears to be quite a bit different from the Newsline
version. I've looked at the current and previous version of the magazine in
Newsline to make sure I wasn't viewing two different issues. The Kindle app
offers a 30-day trial of their magazines, with the PC World subscription
costing $1.99 per month. If anyone is familiar with the version of the
magazine on Newsline and wouldn't mind taking a look at the Kindle version,
I would be very interested in your observations.

Thanks.

Hi all,
Is anybody else with an iPhone 5 not able to flick left and right in the
reader menu? I don't mean the home screen, but the menu from within a book.
I can touch elements on the screen and activate them, but I have to find
them rather than flicking to them. On the iPad the reader menu works
normally, so I'm wondering if it's an iPhone 5 issue?
Otherwise, I'm loving the accessibility on the Kindle app.

Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-04 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Lisette,
I wonder if this not being able to flick thing is something random. I have
encountered this problem with a book on my iPad. That same book, on my 4S, does
not exhibit the problem. Also, on the iPad, when I do a continuous read in that
book and the page changes, instead of continuing to read, my iPad says "go to"
and quits reading, and I have to two finger flick down to start again. But
another book on the iPad doesn't do that. It seems quite strange, rather like
how some books don't have a table of contents, but others do.

2013-05-04 Thread Lisette Wesseling
Hi Mary,I've tried it with two titles and so far they both exhibit this
problem. But I can still totally use the app so it's more of a minor annoyance
than anything else. I would never have believed the Kindle app would ever be
accessible. Where am I going to find the time to read all I now have access to?

I know this is anecdotal evidence, but I can say that I can't remember

So I think iBooks is definitely not catching up.

Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-04 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello Mary,

on my iPad mini, sometimes reading will just stop at the end of a page for no
reason I can figure. on average, I would say this might happen every 30 pages
or so? The menu doesn't pop up though, I'm just sitting there on the page.
When this occurs, I do a 3 finger swipe from right to left to turn the page
then do a 2 finger swipe up to start continuous reading again.

Re: Kindle now accessible on IOS with Voiceover.

2013-05-04 Thread Esther
Hi Lisette and Mary,

On the iPad, it may be the issue that the first generation model Mary
is using just doesn't have as much active memory to use for continuous
reading. I don't think that's an issue with the later model iPads. I
agree with Anne's assessment that some eBook versions simply don't
provide navigation in the table of contents, but just lists.

A suggestion for Lisette: to navigate the table of contents with
flicks, set your rotor to words or lines and then flick up and down.
I was finding that for some books I could only easily navigate to the
parts and not to the numbered chapters within the major parts untile I
set my rotor to words, then I could navigate to individual chapters in
the Table of Contents and double tap to go there in the book. This way
you don't have to first touch the section with the chapter number on
the screen and double tap.

Cheers,

Esther

the same thing happens to me, but only about once a book. I don't get the menu
popping up either.
