Completing PDFs.

2012-08-16 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

I know PDFs has been a long discussion on this list.
I also know no clear method of interacting or reading PDFs has been found.
(Outside of the alternative tools).
Does a comparable method exist that allows one to complete or fill-in PDF files?
It seems that PDFs are becoming more and more the norm of document delivery.

Thank you for all of your wonderful help guys.

why "unread button" in mail?

2012-08-16 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
Just a quick question. In mail, why must vo say "unread button" for unread
messages? Why not ismply "unread"? Where is there a button, and is there any
way to change this?

Re: Completing PDFs.

2012-08-16 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi Emilio.

Well, I was hoping that when Mountain lion came out, that the new update of PDF
pan pro would work. I just tested it. I can get it to read PDFs just fine, but
they haven't fixed the editing part for voice over. I still have it on my
computer. Since I had bought it, I just left it there, hoping that one of these
days, the developer would fix it. I contacted the developer about it, but so
far no luck.

getting vo to announce if an edit field is multi-line?

Hi all,
Is there a way to get vo to specify if an edit field is multi-line? I know it's
a small thing, but I'd love to be able to know if pressing enter in an edit
field will submit my content or insert a new line. It is one thing nvda does
that I miss on the mac.

Re: Customising favourites bar in Mountain Lion

2012-08-16 Thread Tim Kilburn
Thanks Andrew for your response. The only thing I'd add is that the "Click" is
not anything you hear out of your speakers, there is just sort of a click as
you press firmly down on the Trackpad so that you know you have the button
pressed. Sometimes you'll hear a minor click sound but it's more of a feeling
thing. It's the same on the Magic Trackpad as on a laptop Trackpad.

Re: Completing PDFs.

2012-08-16 Thread Chris Moore
Sadly, it is not possible to complete PDF files on iOS or Mac when using a
screen reader. It is possible to do it with Adobe Reader if you are not a
screen reader user, and when I try to open PDF forms within preview/iBooks, I
am informed I need to upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader. One of
the new features listed for Mountain Lion was the ability to complete PDF
forms, so what happened?

It is about time Adobe made Reader accessible for both the Mac and iOS, or
Apple should beef up PDF support in iBooks and Preview.

The best way to make a PDF accessible is to publish it using HTML 5 and CSS 3.
The most accessible PDF is one someone can read, than not being able to read at
all.

You could probably set one up but there's really no reason to, just
press command left bracket on the keyboard.

If there is a command or if anyone has a suggestion how to set one up

Re: Exceedingly scary and confounding problem with on-line banking account

2012-08-16 Thread Christine Grassman
Ricardo, thank you for telling me how to empty caches. There was no way to tell
whether it did so -- it said "empty caches" when I hit command option E, but
that was it: no choices, check boxes, etc. Is this what is supposed to occur?
Also, I did try resetting Safari the other night when I initially reported the
issues with the banking site. However, I still cannot locate anything
resembling cookies in the Safari security tab.

I officially surrender -- after updating the Java certificate, emptying caches,
clearing cookies, resetting Safari, and clearing all WEb site data, my banking

Hi Bill I have used posterous.com and squarespace.com

Posterous is fairly basic but it couldn't be easier to add content. it is
free.
Squarespace is a much more powerful hosting and content management system but
also very accessible. My site and podcast at iBlindTech.com is all done with
squarespace

Squarespace has moved from version 5 to version 6 recently and my site still on
ver 5. I have not tried ver 6 yet so don't know about the accessibility of this

Hope this helps

Re: reading PDFs?

2012-08-16 Thread Esther
Hi Teresa and Mary,
You can get the information on where to download Stanza for the Mac by
going to the Mail Archive site for either this list or the Mac-access
list and typing into the search text box:
from:Esther stanza
then press Return. The first link returned in either instance has a
post containing the download information. Here's the link that came up
for this list. The post contains detailed instructions on how to
download.
Re: stanza for the Mac.
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries@googlegroups.com/msg63550.html

The Mac-access list link was a long and detailed discussion of ePub
reading options on the Mac, so I won't paste it in here. But it did
give links to two different working download URLs for the Mac version
of Stanza, so I'll paste them in here:
• Stanza desktop version for the Mac -- CNET download page:
http://download.cnet.com/Stanza/3000-2056_4-198177.html
• Stanza desktop version for the Mac -- Softonic download page:
http://stanza.en.softonic.com/mac

The reason the desktop version of Stanza is hard to find is that
Amazon bought Lexacycle, the developers of the Stanza eBook app on the
iPhone, and then closed down the site last November. At one time the
Stanza app on the iOS platform was deemed the major potential
competitor to Amazon's Kindle. Lexacycle developed the Stanza Desktop
app primarily as a way to convert the diverse eBook formats to the
ePub standard they promoted for their iOS Stanza app, and also as a
way to support direct uploads of eBooks to their iOS app. They also
added support for reading these other eBook formats in their desktop
app, but it wasn't the primary design purpose.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hmm. It does on mine. What version of OSX are you running? I'm on 10.7.4
with Safari 6. On here I went to aol.com, picked some random headlin to
go to another page and then did a two finger swipe to go back to
aol.com. I do have mouse tracking following the VO cursor since I think
the mouse has to be hovering over the browser window for the gesture to
work.

Hey GG,

Yes, that is sad news. I went through the archives to read your post

It sounds like such a great app if it would only allow us to edit the
PDFs in question.
It is getting more difficult in some instances to get a sighted person
to help write for me, and it would be cool to just be independent in
this general task.

Re: reading PDFs?

Thank you for taking the time with this, Esther. Unfortunately, I tried those
two links in the last week, and the downloads are incomplete or corrupt. I hope
this is a temporary problem. I tried another one from a Google search and it
was a broken link to the Lexcycle page, which has been down for close to a
year. It would be great if it could be put in the Mac App Store. apparently,
Amazon bought LexCycle, and then Stanza fell through the cracks. I'm not even
sure if it's still being maintained and updated at this point, but I'll
continue to use it as long as I can. I happened to find an older copy I'd put
in my dropbox folder and I use this.

Thanks,

Hi, there is an easy fix for the problem you're having in Chrome where it loads
a page and you have to go back to the edit box. Just use Chromevox. Sure, it
crashes Chrome sometimes with the Nuance voices but it does the job. I would
use Safari more if SamNet worked for Safari.

Audio Highjack Pro

2012-08-16 Thread Scott Rumery
Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone on the list is good at using Audio Highjack Pro.
I have recently purchased it with the intention of using to produce a series
of Mac and iPhone how to podcasts. Can I use this program to record my voice as
well as the Voice Over from my computer at the same time, or will I have to
record them separately and then join them together post production? I hope
that I can record both my own voice from my microphone and the system sound at
the same time.

Does anyone know of any good tutorials for this program?

Thank you,
Scott

Yes, this is possible. You just have to add two sessions, one for your

system sound and my own voice all in one file. Will I have to just merge the
two files after I record them?

Re: Audio Highjack Pro

2012-08-16 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Nope. The System audio file will record both. You just need a session for
your microphone and that you can start using command_+G. You want also a
system audio session and for that, use command+r.

Re: Audio Highjack Pro

2012-08-16 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hello,

I believe in Audio Hijack Pro, there is an effect for an application mixing. I
can't remember what it's called, but it's near the top of the effects menu. So
you can just create one session, and add the other applications you need.

Re: Safari questions with ML

2012-08-16 Thread Steve Holmes
I see that no-one has so far discussed tables with you. While interacting
within a table in HTML content, use the VO-Arrow keys to move around in the
table. So to move up and down, hold down the VO keys and use up and down
arrows. That should move you down in the same column and not push back to the
beginning of the row or any of that. Keep in mind that as you get to the
bottom of a column, pressing VO-down arrow will wrap you back to the top row
and I think, advances you to the next column. To get out of the table, Just
get to the upper left or lower right corner of the table and then use normal
VO-left or VO-right to move you on outside the table. For me, tables
automatically interact when you land on them. I can't remember if that is
always the case, default or if I set an option; sorry.

Hope this helps.

First, I thought I'd respond to the discussion on tables. The one I
encounter is on my bank's web site. I can find the table and
VO-right-arrow through each item. When I'm on the first column of a row,
the VO-R command also reads the whole row to me. I can't figure out how to
bop straight down a column though. But at least the information is all
 there.
And I so appreciate those of you who reported the apparent bug here. I was
beginning to think I was losing my mind. I just can't seem to quite figure
out where I land and when I need to interact and when I don't. I don't
remember having this issue in Lion but granted, I only used it a little
bit because I was waiting for Mountain Lion before really getting going on
 this Macbook.
The other thing I've apparently lost track of is how to quickly do a
google search. I have figured out that if I open Safari and just stay on
the tool bar, I can type a url or a search term. I then VO-right-arrow to
the html content area where I interact. But it sure seemed to me that
there was a keystroke or something that went easily into that google
search. But I just can't find it anywhere.
But boy I'd sure love a good tutorial and demo of really using Safari in
ML. I did create an activity which turns on Quick Nav when I go into
Safari, and I was afraid that this was what was messing up my browsing
 experience.
So I will await further news and see how far I get in the meantime. But
thanks so much to all of you who are so on top of all of this stuff. I
look forward to doing my part to pay forward. In the meantime, I'm open to

I just checked my instance of Safari where I have two tabs open but only one
window. Pressing Ctrl-Tab does rotor me through the open tabs. Pressing VO-F2
twice opened the window chooser where only one window is showing. So I think
for this purpose, use Ctrl-Tab to move between open tabs in Safari.

I'm running latest Safari on Mountain Lion.
