RE: creating presentations in keynote
Hi, Is it making the noise because you have the font size to large and so you have reached the limit of what can be seen on the screen - I always assumed that was why it made the noise when I am working with Keynote. Generally not experienced problems reviewing my slides so can't help with that one at the moment. When I am editing a slide, after typing one or two lines of text, my mac makes the noise that it makes when I type onto the next page in Pages. It does this continuously as long as I type or move around through the text. Navigating back through what I have written is also difficult since the VO commands don't seem to work correctly. Are there any settings I can change to make this easier? Any thoughts are appreciated. -Greg -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Yes, that is what was happening. I found an option in the inspector to automatically shrink the font to fit the slide. This was very helpful. RE: creating presentations in keynote
Hi, Another tip - might be useless but if you are using the notes pages in keynote for speakers notes remember to stop interacting with slide and then with the scroll area so you can navigate to the notes - having used both ppt and keynote I like keynote better it just takes a little time to get used to if you are used to ppt. Card Cloud app, solution or problem
Cheree Heppe here: I recently read about an app called Card Cloud on a tech review. I liked the idea of having E-cards that could be easily re-designed by me and passed around to contacts. I really liked the idea about my being able to read these same cards from others without having somebody read the cards to me or taking time to scan the text of the cards using a document scanner. However, when I tried the app, it presented an ambiguous sign up process where I couldn't figure out where to enter a password. Nevertheless, the app sign up process thought I had a password in place. Before I felt myself properly signed up, the app opened the Contacts list of my IPhone as a prominent resource and a small button at the bottom for yet more sign up information appeared. I deleted the app. Subsequently, I received an E-mail through Card Cloud, wanting more info through the app's website. At this point, I couldn't recommend this app, both because of its murky sign in process and its muddy approach to accessibility. Okay, I had to put in this subject line to reflect the contents of the thread. I just looked for this podcast ("WGN Website Wednesday Night"). It appears that they produced 10 episodes between July and September of 2005, and then stopped using that feed (http://feeds.feedburner.com/smb-wwn). The web page for the site just started posting to a new webcasts page, but don't appear to have a dedicated feed for podcasts only, only a way to download from their web pages: http://savemybutt.com/category/webcasts/ So the answer to your question is that their podcast feed at the iTunes Store is out of date, and probably should be removed or the information updated to point to a new feed if they create one (for the podcasts started up and being produced 6 years later). I would unsubscribe and delete the entry. > 2. sometimes, i see two feeds for the same podcast, the second of which i did > not create. so for example, i see my original feed for serotalk, but also > serotalk1 has been created somehow. Duplicate podcast subscription entries appear when the source of the podcast feed changes, or if the producer has changed the show name associated with the feed. You can check whether this has happened by selecting one of the episodes from each feed, then using the contextual menu (VO-Shift-M) to choose "Copy URL". Then paste the feed URL into a TextEdit window. Do the same for an episode in the other feed, then check whether the two addresses are different. Sometimes the developer maintains more than one feed source, or changes the feed. Early BBC Radio 4 podcasts showed up under one feed address when they gave a direct feed to use for subscription, and then under another when they pointed to a different feed address in iTunes. "In Our Time" changed the way they named the series a while back, so I have two different folders for the historical content. > 3. i am wondering if podcasts exists for blind access journal blog and > podcast and vision australia's mini podcast on the use of the mac. Finding and adding podcasts from the iTunes Store is fairly straight-forward. For example, the iTunes URLs for the podcasts you asked about in your third question are: • Blind Access Journal Blog: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/blind-access-journal/id398449775 • Vision Australia's podcast series on Apple Accessibility: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/apple-accessibility/id423121261 Navigate to any of the "View in iTunes" links or find them with item chooser menu and VO-Space. Then, in iTunes, navigate to the "Subscribe Free" button and press (VO-Space) to subscribe. The easy way to find podcasts in the iTunes Store is to use the Power Search feature, which lets you choose the category of the search you want to perform (music, audiobooks, podcasts, apps, movies, etc.) and enter search information in any text field. While there is a link to "Power Search" from the iTunes Store home page, and most main home pages (music, tv shows, etc.), the quick way to access this is by using the "Search…" menu option under the "Store" menu on the iTunes menu bar. (This selects the iTunes Store in the source list table, and also loads the power search page in to the HTML area. Because the power search page is text only, going to this page directly is a fast way to get into iTunes from your home library, since you're not loading the graphics and complex HTML pages of the main store page, and will encounter fewer "iTunes, busy" alerts.) Change the first pop up menu button from "All Results" to "Podcasts", then type in search terms into any of the fields. (I couldn't find a match to "Vision Australia" in the podcast name, so I tried typing David Woodbridge's name as the search term under the "Author" field). HTH. Extracting audio from avi files
Dear all, What I am about to ask has been discussed before but after trying all solutions I cannot seem to extract audio from avi files correctly. Heard a podcast from Sarah alawami where she first converts the movie file to another with Handbrake and then extracts the audio from that with Switch. But my movies are mostly 90 minutes long and would take a long time. so would like to have an extractor which can do it straightaway. My experiences so far: DVDRemaster, Handbrake and Adapter don't extract audio from avi files at all. MPEG Streamclip does open avi files but gives an error when trying to extract. And the Mac version of Switch doesn't support avi files unfortunatley. It will open them but extraction never succeeds. Are there any programs out there which can extract audio from avi files? Or am I doing something wrong with the above mentioned? Many thanks, Ronald -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Good afternoon Ronald, Please try the following online file conversion service. I believe it should do what you want and shouldn't bog down your computer. Re: Apple TV and streaming movies
Um, actually, we use handbrake to rip DVD's. So far, this has been the easiest, most reliable method of copying movies onto the hard drive for us. We simply leave handbrake's settings set to the defaults, except for optimizing the output file for iPod/iPhones. Although, I think it may even have a setting to optimize the file for the AppleTV, but don't recall for sure. So far, all of the movies in our collection stream beautifully via the AppleTV. My apologies, I don't have much experience with many other DVD ripping applications. We have just stuck with what works for us. -- Jenny Wood Phone: (972) 989-3894 Email: kc5...@gmail.com Facebook/Twitter/Skype: kc5gni On Apr 26, 2011, at 2:09 PM, Michael Thurman wrote: > a silly question but what do you use to get your movies into a form that can > be share don your network to the apple ios divices? > handbrake is a joke from what I have seen and he last vd i tried to rip with > dvd shrink was garbage with no audio > mac the ripper gave the same results but I odn't know what I'm doing with > either mac the ripper or handbrake how ever you spell it lol so it could be > my fault it would be nice to be able to listen to my discs without having to > handle media > thanks > michael > you can write me off list if you prefer :) > > On Apr 23, 2011, at 4:22 PM, Jenny Wood wrote: > >> Hi there. Thank you Ben. You were the one who told me on another list that I'd have to code the interface by hand because it isn't accessible with VO. Do you or does anyone else know about any Xcode tutorials or other type of material for learning Xcode from a blindness perspective? I have plenty of material on Objective-C and Cocoa, but they all have some visual elements that make things more difficult. follow up to my last post regarding VirusBarrier Plus
Hello again listers. THis is just a follow up to my last post asking if VirusBarrier Plus was accessible. I decided to take the plunge and I was rewarded. This product is even more accessible than the trial of VB X6 from Intego that I tried before spending money on the AppStore. If any of you are looking for some basic virus protection for your macs, then I'd gladly say go and spend the money on it. It's on sale for a limited time for $7.99 but the regular price is $9.99 which is still a good deal. From what I've read, there is no subscription renewing to do either. Hope this helps someone. Apple TV opinions wanted.
Greetings one and all. Well, the subject line says it all. I am thinking of giving an Apple TV as a Birthday present and would like opinions on this device. I have read a number of reviews on the web which claim that the Apple TV has problems with streaming video such as stuttering and freezing, but I'm taking such reviews with a grain of salt since the issues mentioned above could be caused by a number of factors. Thanks in advance for any help. Neil -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Apple TV and streaming movies
Stating the obvious of course, but the size will vary from movie to movie. I just recently ripped the movie Tangled for instance, and it came out to be 889.5MB. I have had other movies come out to be a little more and others were a little less. I'm sure there are probably other programs out there that are more efficient at shrinking the file size down a bit, but we just went with what we had and what worked for now. I would certainly be open to suggestions. :-) BTW, our movies are all in M4V format. -- Jenny Wood Phone: (972) 989-3894 Email: kc5...@gmail.com Facebook/Twitter/Skype: kc5gni On Apr 26, 2011, at 4:20 PM, Kliph&Sharrie wrote: > How big does handbreak make the files when you rip them? > > -Original Message- > From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com > [mailto:macvisionaries@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Jenny Wood > Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2011 3:10 PM > To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com > Subject: Re: Apple TV and streaming movies > > Um, actually, we use handbrake to rip DVD's. Re: Apple TV opinions wanted.
Hi Neil, We got an Apple TV for Christmas and so far, we have had very few problems with stuttering or freezing if we're streaming from a device in our home, like a Mac, iDevice or a centrally based network drive where a lot of our videos etc are kept. The only time we've experienced the occasional problem with buffering content is when we've tried to listen to internet radio, though usually this works very well and we don't have a problem. The few times we've watched Youtube on it they've worked fine. Lately I have had the occasional problem where if we're listening to internet radio it'll freeze if I try to exit out of the internet radio menu if it's still playing, but I can't reliably reproduce this issue so can't accurately troubleshoot it. Overall, we've found the Apple TV works beautifully with our setup, and on the few occasions we have had streaming buffer issues, at least one of those has been a known problem on the server end, rather than ours. Hope this helps. Cheers, Chantelle On 27/04/2011, at 9:19 AM, Neil James wrote: > Greetings one and all. Well, the subject line says it all. Re: Such a fantastic day!
Well all, the deed is done. I went with the 13 inch MBP in the end, 2.7 dual core I7, eight gigs of ram, with a 512 GB SSD. Doubt I'll be sleeping all that much until it arrives on, or near May 2nd. They'll have to pull me off the roof should signing be required. :) Over all, an extremely accomplished day. Thanks to all of you for feeling my happiness, and responding to it. :D Sorry Keith, I know this is OT, and promise it won't happen again, but I had to let y'all know the system I chose. And now, onto my myriad of questions. Have a good night all.
