Um, actually, we use handbrake to rip DVD's. So far, this has been the easiest, most reliable method of copying movies onto the hard drive for us. We simply leave handbrake's settings set to the defaults, except for optimizing the output file for iPod/iPhones. Although, I think it may even have a setting to optimize the file for the AppleTV, but don't recall for sure. So far, all of the movies in our collection stream beautifully via the AppleTV. My apologies, I don't have much experience with many other DVD ripping applications. We have just stuck with what works for us.
