SEE Finance, There's Hope for Us
SEE Finance is a financial management package which allows for the tracking of checking, savings, credit card and investment accounts. I purchased the product and wrote technical support with recommendations for VoiceOver improvements and support requests. When I received no response, I figured it was another case of a company not wishing to tackle accessibility. I just received an apologetic e-mail from the company. Apparently, their spam filters prevented my e-mails from reaching their inboxes. They've issued me a complete refund, but more importantly, stated that a new update labeling many buttons was coming my way by the end of the week. I'm very encouraged and if anybody is looking for a financial package, I'd encourage you to support this company. Nothing is guaranteed, but the tone of their e-mail certainly gives me cause for hope that VoiceOver support will be significantly enhanced. Re: just a thought, might be interesting for the future
Hi Eric, As you do have a version of WOW for the mac, i was wondering if you were actually able to get to the game world, or were stuck in the intro dialog where you choose your character. Is there any navigation possible with VO before entering the world, and once within the world is everything inaccessible? I'm asking this as i believe the scripts can take from various parts of the api and provide sound cues and menu navigation via key bindings, just as is the case in quake when you go to the console. For the sound cues, i think it should be a matter of mesh picking within the game window. All objects are drawn and therfore have ID tags to them, with sub categories, such as NPC, players, statics, triggers etc. If different sound cues could be integrated which do not hamper too much to the experience, and allow the user to understand where he/she is, this might be a start. I remember there were a lot of keys used when entering a full blown warzone, spells, items in the pouch, jumps and communication, so there are probably many ways to find an underlying architecture that could easily be picked for accessiblity. If all graphics are turned to their minimum, and sound quality is in fact true 3D spatial, this could be something to consider. Re: just a thought, might be interesting for the future
Hi Jude, SoundRTS is a game similar to warcraft. World of warcraft is a totally different style. Its an MMORPG meaning an online multiplayer role playing game. I've listened to the sound rts demo and it seems pretty cool, and i'm sure this could be translated spatially without the restirctions of quadrant based boxes. The touchscreens would make a good job in this sense, only if there are tactile toucscreens such as those that will come out in 2011 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: SEE Finance, There's Hope for Us
Well, there is a budgeting feature and I believe one can add categories. At this point, I don't know if one can tab around or not, however. If not, that will be a recommendation I will offer the company. Now that we apparently have a dialog going, I think we have a shot to get some good things done. They stated that there are about 500 buttons throughout the program that they will be fixing for VoiceOver use, so when the update comes out, I may have to disable the labels I created, as I don't want to hear double reading of labels. Re: just a thought, might be interesting for the future
I can tell you this: VO will not work with the client at all. once you start the client to log-in, you get no voice out of VO. The way I played before involved a very large screen and my being very close (less than a foot). made for some very hard raiding, but it was doable, just. as for the sound environment, it should sound a lot like the natural world. if you are walking align in a tunnel, you should be able to hear the approximate locations if the walls based on reflected sound of your footsteps and armor noise. if you hear battle be it sounds muffled, that means you have an object between you and the fight. the fight should be perfectly visible in sound, like if a monster is on the right doing battle and is closer to you than one on the left also doing battle, then the right one should sound louder and sound off to the right. depending on where they are around, using binaural sound location should be easy. I don't hear any of this in the game. -Eric On Dec 17, 2010, at 2:54 AM, Yuma Decaux wrote: > Hi Eric, > > As you do have a version of WOW for the mac, i was wondering if you were > actually able to get to the game world, or were stuck in the intro dialog > where you choose your character. > > Is there any navigation possible with VO before entering the world, and once > within the world is everything inaccessible? > > I'm asking this as i believe the scripts can take from various parts of the > api and provide sound cues and menu navigation via key bindings, just as is > the case in quake when you go to the console. > > For the sound cues, i think it should be a matter of mesh picking within the > game window. Mark's n 95 is in the process of dying and that's why we were thinking of upgrading this soon, anyway, but if we could hold out until our upgrade date in Ap[ril, we were going to try that instead to save some money.Anyway, we called our provider just on a whim to see what they could/would offer if we threatened to leave and they offered something we couldn't refuse, so we bit. Ok Mike, I just went to http://www.vegancoach.com/how-to-cook-a-turnip.html and tried to follow your instructions. Each line is showing up as its own item, so when I interact with it, I still only get a line at a time. Also, I could not move by character, only by word. I did find that by turning on the reader and selecting to email the page, then navigating to the text of the email, I could move freely and copy whatever I wanted. but, that's a pain to have to do all the time. So, am I doing something wrong here? Marlaina On Dec 16, 2010, at 4:56 PM, Mike Arrigo wrote: The answer to bot of these is to interact with the item. Re: New I phone owners, was, Re: differences between I pad and I pod touch?
HI. Yes, without being able to see you have to hook it up to the computer to turn on vo. This is easy with itunes and window-eyes. I suspect it is easy with jaws too but I have never tried it and I have never tried using nvda with itunes so can't comment on the ease of use. short version from memory. When you first plug in the phone, you will be asked to set it up. it will then appear in the sources treeview under devices. Arrow to the phone and tab a time or to to get to summary tab. Tab a few more times to reach a button called setup universal access or words to that effect. This will have a group of radio buttons for dealing with voice over and you want the on button. it will ask for confirmation and give you a warning about it changing the interface on the phone etc but once that has happened you are good. Since I use mac itunes, I might have missed a bit or two but I have done it for people on windows a couple of times and I think this is basically correct. Brian. Re: changed iTunes server but purchases don't go there
Hi Tim. It's all different: 2 computers, 2 accounts, 2 different media folders on the NetGear. I can copy things to NetGear I suppose, but I want them off my Air completely because I have a terrabite server for music and the like, and I don't want my air holding all that stuff. Sorry to be so dense about all this. Marlaina On Dec 16, 2010, at 5:30 PM, Tim Kilburn wrote: Hi Marlaina, Now, when you say two different libraries and two different accounts, does that also mean that you both have different media folders on your NetGear server? If you are sharing the same folder to access your media, then there's going to be some issues. If you each have totally different iTunes media folders, then I believe that this can be worked out. The reason you'll have problems when you are attempting to share the same iTunes media folder, is due to the fact that itunes is more than just a media player, it is a media organizer, media store and interactive media browser. When media is imported into itunes, it's put into a library database, so the media is placed in a specific location and the database knows where it was put and how to access it when needed. If media is put into the media location without using the import functionality, then iTunes really has no idea that it exists. So, if you are sharing the same media folder, you or your husband could add media to your own library but the other would not see it unless you import it yourself. There are ways of sharing iTunes media using the Home Sharing or shared Library methods but I don't want to get into them unless we can really determine if that is your best option. Later... Re: safari questions
Hi, The control option shift c method is a pain on that particular webpage. I made it a bit less daunting by switching to group mode. That grouped some of the smaller items for me so that I could sweep them up faster and it also made it possible for me to get just the article without the tedious google ads. Admittedly not perfect, but a marginal improvement. Text Expander, and it's search snippets feature, help request
I just updated Text Expander to 3.x. I'm trying to use the search snippets feature. I've set up a hockey, and get an edit box and a label saying search snippets. Re: safari questions
Yes Benjamin, I was not clear. Obviously control+a control+c are identical with their command key Mac counterparts, however in the Mac world one can not be selective in their selection with the shift+arrow keys while viewing a web page. Carolyn correctly differentiated what I meant from what I said :) I guess the only workaround is the earlier suggestion to go into reader and selectively paste from the mail composition window. Well, once you've selected all, Shift-Arrow adjusts the selection from the start of the document. Alternatively, if you have no selection and you navigate somewhere in the page, then press Shift-Arrow, it will start selecting from that point. VoiceOver may not always do a perfect job of communicating what's happen though. Re: How to interact with a folder.
Hey Marlaina: Command C is a command to copy what's in the cursor to clipbord, just as control C does on that other operating system. It would be effective, for example if you want to move a book from downloads to the Victor stream or somewhere else. Re: safari questions
Hi Geoff, What Benjamin said, seems to be accurate in my case. I went to a web page and pressed shift down arrow a few times, then pressed command C. Then I opened up text edit and pasted and there was the lines of text from the webpage. While I was selecting, Voiceover gave me no speech feedback though. Before, I just assumed nothing was happening because VO wasn't talking. hth Ricardo Walker rwalker...@gmail.com Twitter, Skype, and AIM: rwalker296 Google Voice: 1-646-450-2197 On Dec 17, 2010, at 6:32 PM, Geoff Waaler wrote: > Benjamin, > > I'm beginning to have the impression that either we can not communicate or > you're using entirely different software than what is being discussed here. > I'd suggest that we take this part of the discussion off line so as not to > spread bogus info. Tried with this article for what it's worth: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/dec/17/high-court-overturns-immigration-cap Navigating to the start of the article, you can use shift-arrow to begin the selection and expand it until you've selected the entire article text, then Command-C to copy it. This is with VoiceOver configured with "Keyboard focus follows VoiceOver cursor", "VoiceOver cursor follows keyboard focus", "Insertion point follows VoiceOver cursor", "VoiceOver cursor follows insertion point", and "Navigate webpages by DOM order". If you're experiencing radically different results, it may well reflect differing configuration. As each line or character is highlighted, VoiceOver reads the text then "highlighted". help with finding a program to do video conversion on the mac
Hello list. I'm wanting to do some major video conversion and here is what I need. 1. a program that lets me convert video files mainly .avi files in to audio. I've been doing this with goldwave on a windows virtual machine on my mac but would like a mac program that could do similar. I've tried amadeus pro but it doesn't do that. 2. I need a program to convert .avi files in to .m4v or .mov so I can play them on an Apple TV I'm thinking of purchasing. If possible, it'd be nice if any programs mentioned had batch processing capabilities. Thanks for any help. Re: changed iTunes server but purchases don't go there
Hi Marlaina! I've cleared out some of the earlier posts! I do not know if this is applicable, but I've got 2 users and 1 Mac and we share 1 library! I had to put my Itunes media folder into hd/users/shared in the hd on the Mac and the same through my better half's user account! Then changed some permissions to allow it to work! So I wonder if you have to set up something similar! As for where your purchases are going! Have you looked in Itunes in the hd! That's where music is normally stored! hth Colin! Re: How to interact with a folder.
Ah, I did that and it worked. Wow, I knew about command shift h but forgot I knew it. Using that and command shift k, I can get easily from my Netgear and my mac files. I wish there were some really good tutorials available that would help drill some of this stuff into newbies or oldbies like me. When I use to teach windows, I'd use little sayings with my students like press alt f4 to shut the door; this helped them remember. I can't come up with any such little cutesy things for the Mac OS. It's hard to remember all these things if you don't use them on a regular basis. But, obviously many of you have done just that. Any tips and tricks to start remembering all this stuff would be really appreciated. But, command shift h is one I'll never forget again! Re: changed iTunes server but purchases don't go there
Hi Colin. Gary and I have two separate machines and our own separate libraries. Yes, my music is going to the hd, but I wanted it to go to my NetGear. However, I think I need to just copy stuff over and put my big girl pants on and shut up and deal with the fact that it's all going to go to the hd, and then it's on me to copy it. Thing I don't know is if I delete it off the hd, which is what I want to do, whether or not iTunes will see it; iTunes knows that my music is on the NetGear, so I'm hoping it will work. I guess we'll see, :) Marlaina On Dec 17, 2010, at 4:44 PM, Colin M wrote: Hi Marlaina! I've cleared out some of the earlier posts! Hi Benjamin, Thanks for providing the text case. My configuration matches yours exactly (I have 10.6.5 installed) but my results vary from what you and Ricardo report in both Safari and the latest Webkit version. When I launch the URL referenced below and navigate to the level 1 heading containing text: "Immigration cap overturned by high court judges", I hear nothing as I press the shift-arrow keys. If I act on faith and press command-c, my clipboard contents is not altered,. Sorry for the implication that you did not test before posting, but our results varied so radically, and your initial greeting of "say what" struck me as kind of hostel and perhaps caused me to become overly emotive.
