Hi, If you don't change the setting for your icon for your Adium, it will also, by default, seemingly use your picture for the account on your Mac. RE: using fdisk
Scott, someone should probably get the details of how BootCamp knows that a partition has a bootable OS. Maybe it shows you all FAT32 or NTFS partitions as choices? Maybe it looks for a partition with a valid master boot record. If you can figure this out, then you'll just need to make this change to any Windows or Linux partition that you'd like, and have it be bootable. On a PC, booting Windows from a flashdisk or external hard drive isn't easy. I bet it could work well with a Mac. Would be quite a demo. Here is a situation where command-[ and backspace won't work. In the Finder, under the Help menu, open Mac Help. When you click on links here, you can't backup with a keyboard shortcut that I know, certainly not the ones that you'd expect from Safari. The only way I can back up is to back out one level with the VO cursor, arrow back to the toolbar, enter the toolbar, click the back button, exit the toolbar, arrow over to the HTML view, and enter it again. Re: found something: irc client on the mac
Hi all, Well, since my initial post about loosing accessibility with x-chat Aqua, I did find that by interacting with the Text window, that voiceover would then proceed to read all the channel text, but it does not read text as it comes in, it just reads whatever fills the screen at that moment. Also, VO does speak text typed into the input box, VO will not speak the userlist, no matter how you interact with it. Also Zoom is still not tracking input typing. You can use uif2iso. You can get it through macports. It is command line, but I think that there is a gui front end for it somewhere. Re: Using Automator with VoiceOver
Hi Bryan, Yes, that's an old post that describes Automator under Leopard and the excerpts are from directions I gave nearly 8 months ago. I wouldn't have said that I've spent much time with Automator -- I mostly seem to play with it when someone asks a question. I'm still running Leopard on this MacBook for reasons of having to support an older software configuration, so I can't test the latest Automator. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to do the Snow Leopard upgrade in a couple of weeks. Cheers, Esther Bryan Smart wrote: Hi. Thanks for that. I have noticed some differences in my experiences when compared to what you wrote in that post. Probably, Automator has changed in recent versions. Regarding how to reorder actions in the workflow, you said that you'd select the action and use command-up and command-down. For me, simply placing the VoiceOver focus on an item doesn't seem to focus it for the reorder commands. I have cursor tracking turned on. I've tried VO-space, to activate the item, and VO-enter to select the item, but this still doesn't seem to force the current action to be the target of a reorder command. I tried moving the mouse cursor to the VO cursor and clicking, but the VO cursor doesn't seem to be moved in to the workflow. I always end up activating the wrong object, such as opening the Apple menu. The only way that I've found to reorder on my system is to change the focus in the workflow with the arrows, and then use the re-order commands. This is difficult, because there isn't any feedback when you use the arrows regarding what action has focus. So I move the focus, try to reorder, and, if I moved the wrong item, I press un- do, move the focus, and try again. Hopefully there is a better way. Your post talked about adding variables that are already defined, such as the current date and time. I was concerned about how to add my own custom variables. For example, if you put up an input box to ask a question, the next action in the workflow must set a variable with the result of the dialog before you should present another input dialog. This isn't exactly what I'm attempting, but the concept is the same. However, I decided to try using predefined variables, since that was apparently working for you. I added a predefined variable, but had the same problem that I had with custom variables. 1. In the top level variables table, none of the variable names read. Each row of the table says "object replacement character". I can use your technique of moving mouse to VO cursor and double clicking to open the variable's attributes window to view its name or set its format. Similarly, I can move to my own custom variables and open their attributes windows to view their name. This is slow going, since I must open each variable's attributes window to even know what variable is focused, but at least I can work around this problem. 2. What has me stuck, though, is when I want to use a variable of any type in an action. In actions that accept variables, there is a pop-up menu where I either select to use an existing variable, or to create a new variable. The only thing that VoiceOver will read in this pop-up menu, though is the New Variable entry. I can arrow to the other entries, but they are silent. Even after I pick one of the silent entries, and return to the action, the pop-up button now has a blank label. I'm on OS 10.6.2. Automator is version 2.1 (246). I'm fully updated. Are we using the same version? Are you experiencing these problems? Thanks for your assistance. Actually, even at that time you didn't have to double-click to select actions -- carriage return would add the action to the workflow. Quite a lot of the way that navigation was outlined there reflects historical behavior -- for instance, on applications where VoiceOver accessibility is in a transitional state, I almost always have my mouse cursor track my VoiceOver cursor so I can click on and activate selections that I can't otherwise use. So there may also now be simpler ways to navigate, although what is outlined will work. HTH Cheers, Esther On Jan 9, 2010, at 08:46, Bryan Smart wrote: Has anyone here spent much time with Automator? If you are using POP3, then all your messages should end up in Mail's Trash folder. If you are using IMAP, they will still end up in the Trash folder, but your actions on your Mac should be mirrored on the website and in all your accounts assuming that you are using other computers too. Re: Deleting mail in Mail.app
Hi James. Maybe I was a bit unclear in my previous mail. I am using IMAP on the Mac. The problem is that Mail.app on the Mac creates a new folder to move deleted mail to instead of using the "original" one that Gmail uses. Isn't there any place to setup this - like there is in Thunderbird? -David Den 12.01.2010 20:23, skrev James & Nash: Hi David, I've set up my Mail.app to use Gmail. How and where can I change this so it works the right way? Or doesn't apple allow that at all? Kind regards David It depends I think on what setup you are using for your Mac and GMail.
Hi David, You might check out the seting under Mail Preferences/Account/Mail behaviors for how to handle deleted messages. Also, you might experience that if your services are a mix of english and norwegian, for example norwegian system on your Mac and an imap service with an english interface, you might get trash folders in different languages. They should still work as expected, but have different names when you dig into the folders. Re: Deleting mail in Mail.app
Hi James. I checked this one: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892# But the only thing it says, is to uncheck all. I did so, but then when I delete a mail, from (let's say) the Macvisionaries folder/label, it only removes the label, and the mail is still on the server - in the "all mail"-folder. The "all mail"-folder is full of stuff, so when I found the mail there, and deleted it, I don't know if it's all gone or if it is still on the server somewhere...:( Den 12.01.2010 23:07, skrev James & Nash: Hi David, You need to change something in Labels on the GMail website. Re: Firefox 3.6 RC1 not VO compatible
Nope, and I'm not personally convinced that Mozilla really cares. There was a blog post a while back from Mozilla essentially saying it was Apple's responsibility. Since then there've been a few vague sort of promises that we'll get Mac accessibility to Firefox but nothing actually has been done to make it happen. I stopped holding my breath a long time ago when it comes to Firefox, and I don't personally find Firevox to be as reliable a solution as properly implemented accessibility support would be. It suffices for browsing simple pages, but not much else and provides no access to the rest of the Firefox interface. Mozilla needs to get accessibility support into XUL and Gecko both. It's not a quick job, but I would've thought we'd have seen at least a little bit of something by now if they intended to do it in the near future. How do I know which albums on iTunes are DRM-protected?
Hello all, How do I know whether an music album I want to buy on iTunes is DRM-protected or not? Oftentimes, I simply skip out to Amazon for fear of unknown. Thanks, Vic -- Check out my new album on iTunes at http://ax.itunes.apple.com/us/artist/victor-tsaran/id344507896 -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: How do I know which albums on iTunes are DRM-protected?
Good morning Vic. Apple doesn't use DRM on music anymore. They ended using it a year ago or so. From that time, they also began using 256kbs quality instead of 128kbs wich have been used before. THe m4a-files you buy now is compatible with all devices I have in my hous :) -David Den 13.01.2010 06:26, skrev Victor Tsaran: Hello all, How do I know whether an music album I want to buy on iTunes is DRM-protected or not? Re: Adium and display name for Windows Live Messenger
LOL, oh Lord, that's quite a scary thought! Thank goodness most of my contacts are total blinks.
