[LincolnTalk] sharing gratitude for Charity Dance Showcase (DECEMBER 15) 3-5pm Bemis Hall

2024-12-16 Thread Kathleen Lomatoski
Hello Lincoln neighbors,

I am writing to share my heartfelt gratitude to the Gandhi family (and
extended family), most especially to Vama, Achla, and Trishla for hosting a
thoroughly well-done community event in Lincoln on Sunday afternoon/evening
12/15 at Bemis Hall. The event offered an energetic, engaging Indian
classical dance performance followed by a cooked-from-scratch-at-home
Indian meal to share Indian culture while raising awareness/funds for three
causes. Kudos to all for conceiving, executing, and sharing this unique,
generous community event.

Included causes are: research in brain cancer through the Glioblastoma
Foundation, the Lincoln Council on Aging & Human Services, and the
non-profit organization, Triveni School of Dance, which aims to empower and
teach anyone the power of classical dance. Though I am not 100% sure, and I
believe if you want to make a donation to the causes, you can use this
link.

https://linktr.ee/danceshowcase

For those who could not attend this event as we are in a busy time of year,
please keep your eyes open for future events sharing Indian culture with
the local Lincoln community. I even heard that cooking lessons for
Indian food (vegetarian Jain tradition) might be offered! We are fortunate
to have as many resources within our small community. (I have a photo and
did not ask permission to share it so will refrain from posting here.)

With appreciation and good cheer,

Kathleen Lomatoski

to Kathleen
Thanks Kathleen for the gracious note and support for raising funds the
glio-bastoma foundation. The Gandhi Family (all of us) are really moved by
your kind words of appreciation. My daughters have learnt Indian classical
dance for almost their entire life and were delighted they could
showcase it for a very worthy cause Glio Blastoma foundation and for the
community they have grown up in. Our family is deeply ingrained in the
Deepest Philosophical values that me and my husband have learnt through
study from Jain scriptures from 2000 years ago. I have been teaching this
philosophy to small groups as well. So besides providing cooking lessons
for vegetarian Jain meal, I will be happy to host a class on Philosophical
values and learnings from Jain scriptures for the community in case of
interest 🙏🙏. Philosophical teaching and discussion opportunity will be
provided Pro Bono as it should be.

We are indeed keeping the donation link open for the holidays for anyone
interested in supporting the causes. Achla and Vama will be happy to
showcase this beautiful piece of Indian culture and heritage for
the community on another date if the community so desires. Kathleen you can
go ahead and share the picture/ video with the Lincoln community if you
wish to. Trishla, Achla and Vama have been raised with strong philosophical
teachings so as they step out in this world they want to share their
culture and philosophical values and take up causes that can benefit
society. They have raised $1,700 so far while their goal was to raise
$5,000 from this effort so any additional donations will be appreciated.
For those who missed the performance and want a video of it we can share it
once it is ready (on request only). Please reach out to me for more info on
the charity event and fund-raising, on lessons in Jain vegetarian cooking
or lessons in Jain Philosophy or any other information on Indian Classical
dancing or culture etc. We will be honored and humbled to be provided an
opportunity to share all we know for the benefit of the community.

Once again thank you to all those who joined us on Sunday Dec 15th
afternoon in order to support the causes and ceebrate the Indian cultures
and heritage.🙏🙏🙏

Best Regards,

Sangita

[LincolnTalk] Abbey Salon appointed to School Comm

2024-12-16 Thread Susan Taylor via Lincoln
The Lincoln School Committee is happy to announce that Abbey Salon will join
the Committee as an interim member to fill the unexpired term of Yonca Heyse
until the town election in March. Abbey was appointed Dec. 12 by a vote of a
joint meeting of the School Committee and the Select Board as required by state
law.

Abbey Salon was interviewed along with other candidates at an open meeting that
was recorded. Select Board and School Committee members were all thrilled by
the caliber of candidates who submitted statements of interest.

In selecting Abbey, we considered her deep experience as an educator with
data-informed education goals, commitment to AIDE work, and skills learned
earning her Masters in Education Administration.

We look forward to having her join our next committee meeting Dec. 19. --

Re: [LincolnTalk] Christmas Eve Services

2024-12-16 Thread John and Margit Griffith
The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 8pm at Follen Church (UU) in
Lexington (10 minutes away) is absolutely fantastic! They have a
traditional service of carols and readings (Linus would be proud), and
include some performances by the choir and other groups. As we reflect on
the year behind and year ahead, we pass candlelight around the sanctuary.
It's very meaningful and inspiring.

Did you know, the first minister, Charles Follen, is credited with bringing
the first decorated Christmas tree to the United States from his native
Germany? This is one reason why they sell Christmas trees as a fundraiser
each year.

Bonus: the drive there and back includes neighborhoods with decorated
houses for additional holiday spirit!

Everyone is very welcoming!

No matter if you stay snug at home or venture out, may your holidays be
merry and bright!

Yours,
Margit

Re: [LincolnTalk] Services Christmas Eve

2024-12-16 Thread Jennifer Saffran
I would also put a vote in for the Concord UU Church. I am a member of both.
Again, big organs (they have two!), traditional music, messages more about the
historical Jesus and related concepts, as UU churches do. Last year, they did
not do candles lit inside of the church while singing “Silent NIght”. Many UU
churches end their service with that while trying not to catch anyone or
anything on fire.

And I second what Ruth Ann said.

2024-12-16 Thread miranda loud
Please join us for our annual candlelit solstice service at First
Parish where we start in the sanctuary listening to the beautiful
music by Celtic Duo Erin Hogan and Adam Hendey by flickering
candlelight at 6:30 followed by an outdoor service with readings,
music and a yule log where we share our wishes for the coming year
placing greenery into the fire. For more information see

Re: [LincolnTalk] Services Christmas Eve

2024-12-16 Thread RAandBOB
First Parish Lincoln is across the street from the Lincoln library. It will
have two candlelight services, one at eight and one at 10. The music will be
splendid, accompanied by a real pipe organ, and there will be biblical readings
about Chris’s birth. At the end everyone gets their own candle and they pass
the flame from one person to another.

The church is an open and welcoming church, embracing people of all faith
beliefs or even nonbelief. It is a combination of Congregational and
Unitarian traditions.
